Part Seven (Vanilla's P.O.V)

Vanilla's eyes slowly opened, and red fur flashed in front of her, followed by a high pitched squeal. "She's awake!" She turned her gaze to a white fox that picked up the red fur. Skull stood up, and sat in front of Vanilla. She noticed that the red fur was actually a little fox pup, and it wagged its fluffy tail, then climbed up the bigger white fox's head. Skull stood up, and pointed at them, introducing both foxes. "Vanilla, this is Sparse, i rescued her from a flood." The little red pup leaped down, and wagged her tail in front of Vanilla. "Hi! Do you talk..?" Vanilla nodded, and Skull rolled their eyes. "Sparse, thats rude, we've been over this." Sparse half whimpered half squeaked. "Eek! Sorry, stranger!" Skull turned their head to the white fox with brown fur patterns. "..And this is Birch. He's the one that patched up your leg with various ferns, and he comes from the mountains." Birch gave a respectful nod to her, and Sparse snickered, then whispered in her ear. "I call him Butter!" Skull went back to sitting in front of Vanilla, and turned their head to the side. "Can you stand up?" Vanilla sighed, and tried to stand, but slipped and fell. "It's my leg, it's.." Skull finished her sentence, with a worried glare. "Broken, that's why Birch patched it up.." Vanilla's eyes widened, and shock hit her. Broken?! How will I ever get back to my pack now? She tried to stand again, before Skull sat her back down. "Try to not put as much pressure on the leg, it'll be easier to stand then." She followed their directions, and was able to stand, but she had to limp. Skull stood up, then offered something to Vanilla. "How about Sparse and Birch take you to the meadow? You can get a chance to stretch your paws, and its better than staying in a stuffy barn laying on hay, no offense Birch." Birch didn't change his expression, but flicked his tail. Vanilla nodded, and motioned her head to the door, and Sparse beamed, running ahead, while Birch took his time padding to the door, then pushed it open. Light flooded in, hurting Vanilla's eyes. Has it really been that long since I've seen light? Sparse trotted out, qith Vanilla behind her, limping, while adjusting her eyes to the bright light. Once she adjusted, her face lit up at what she saw. It looked like a whole other world, full of different animals, and long, fluffy, yellow stalks of some type of plant Vanilla hadn't seen before. She couldn'thelp but be amazed at everything."Woah.." Sparse squeaked happily, dashing ahead. "I cant wait to show you everything!! What about the horses? Or the sheep! Or even the cows..they stink  sometimes though.." She gasped, then  loudly, then energetically barked at black birds sitting on some type of wire. "Hey, you get off there!" Her barks alerted the birds, which flew off the wire and into the yellow stalks, which Sparse ran through, holding Vanilla's paw, guiding her. "Come on! We're almost there!" Sparse stopped guiding her, and looked around, there was the yellow plant surrounding both of them, and Sparse looked panicked. "Where did big brother Butter go?" Vanilla looked behind them, where did Birch go? Sparse ran faster through the stalks, and Vanilla heard her powerful sqeak from across the field. She quickly paced quickly, and saw Sparse getting picked on by crows. She growled, causing the crowd of crows to fly off, and Sparse looked up at Vanilla with amazement. "My hero!" She clung onto Vanilla's leg, causing Vanilla to snicker. She picked up Sparse by the neck, and shoved past the soft yellow plant, trying to get to the end. "Let's find Birch now," Vanilla said, causing Sparse to nod as they went through the field. Once they reached the end, Vanilla set Sparse down, and she ran ahead to Birch, who must've been waiting at the end for both of them. Sparse turned around, wagging her puffy tail. "We're here!" She sprinted, and sat down on a high, grassy hill, followed by Birch, who sat down next to her. Vanilla noticed a building on the hill, with a cage full of fat birds. "What's that?" Sparse turned her head to face it. "Oh, thats the human's house, don't worry though, they're not at their house at this time. They even have a huge friend here! The humans call him a dog, but they also call him Max, and since dog is a weird name, I call him Max! He doesn't like us, though." Vanilla looked over at the house with suspicion. I wonder if humans have taken any other land that belonged to animals here.. Sparse sat in front of Vanilla, laying on her back. "You know, new friend, you make Skull happy, we haven't seen him happy in forever, it's almost boring, he's like an old man." Vanilla snickered. "Well, thats certainly good to he- Wait, did you say he?" Sparse tilted her head, confused. "Yes? You didn't know Skull was a boy? He told us that his family used to think he was a girl, so they named him Fawn, because his first hunt was a baby fawn when he was a little pup." Vanilla giggled. "That really is a surprise. How did you get your name, Sparse?" Sparse shrugged, maybe she didn't know, or she was too young to know why. Just then, it started to get cloudy, and Sparse groaned. "Oh come on! We were just about to-" Suddenly lightning hit the hill, and Sparse shrieked. "AHH, RUN BACK!!" She was about to start dashing, before Birch picked her up and ran, Vanilla righr behind as it began pouring. "How did the weather change so quickly?!" Vanilla asked. Birch stood silent, but Sparse whined. "I don't know! It doesn't usually just change like that..!" Both Vanilla and Birch rushed to the barn, going through the yellow stalks was hard enough the first time, but it was raining now, and Vanilla just hoped they'd make it there in time. Hopefully we can get to the barn before it starts flooding... Suddenly, she tripped over her broken leg, and slid across the terrain, catching Sparse's attention, which she barked at Birch. "Birch, stop! She's hurt!" He ran back, and bumped Vanilla onto his back, and ran slower towards the barn. Hopefully we can make it, Vanilla hoped, Sparse and Birch seem like good-hearted foxes, maybe I might stick around for a little more..
