Chapter 6: Homecoming Part 2
I turn on my feet. "Wanda!" I yell out with a gasp. "Wanda, I-I can explain-" I start.
"You're that Spider-ling-thing, the guy running around New York!"
"Spider-Man," I mumble.
"How long?" she asks. I stand quietly, not knowing what to say or what to do. "How long?!" Her voice becomes more demanding.
"A year and t-two months," I blurt out.
"You kept this from me for a year a two months!"
"Y-Yes?"
"How could you do that to me?! I'm your sister!"
I feel my anger rise. Instead of trying to control it, I let it out. "No. You do not get to pin this on me when you're the one who left. You left me with a letter Wanda! You didn't even say goodbye! You ran away from your problems! You promised to be there for me when I needed you, but you weren't there! You stopped answering my calls, you stopped sending letters! You completely ignored me and you're talking about me hiding this from you?! I was going to tell you, in a letter or-or tell you about it on the phone, but guess what Wanda! You shut me out like you always do!"
"Stark brought you into a fight that wasn't yours, Peter!"
"I had my powers long before Mr. Stark found out! I was already going out as Spider-Man! I thought you of all people would understand but you don't!"
"Peter, you are fifteen years old! You shouldn't be doing this! You could get seriously hurt-" her yelling softens, "or worse... I can't lose you."
"Wanda, I'm okay. These people need me. It's like what the team would say: 'We would fight the battles that they never could'. I can't just not be Spider-Man. I'm sticking up for the little guy. I'm going to still be Spider-Man. You know how I know? It's because I know you're going to leave again. I know it'll be a long time before you come back and, if you hadn't noticed, I've been doing just fine on my own!"
"Peter, I get it. You're angry, but please, don't let your anger get the better of you."
I scoff. "I'm more than angry, Wanda. I'm disappointed. You left me to go run off with Mr. Rogers. You could've stayed, but you didn't and now? I don't know if I can trust that I won't end up alone again," my eyes sting with tears.
"I'm sorry, Peter-..."
"You have no idea what I've been through this past year. I found out my crush's dad was a villain who dropped a building on me, I almost died, but I kept fighting. I saved New York! My nightmares have gotten so bad I'm not able to sleep or eat. Without you, I was alone... just like Hydra," my voice cracks and tears run down my face. "Mr. Stark doesn't understand. None of them do."
"Peter, I'm sorry for yelling, but I have to go in a few minutes."
"I knew that already, but that still doesn't make any difference in keeping my hopes up."
"Mysh-"
"No, it's fine. I'll be okay." I lie. Wanda steps forward and hugs me. After a moment, I hug her back. She plants a kiss on my forehead before leaving. With a heavy sigh, I get ready for bed.
(Now you guys get to have a little taste of Peter's backstory in hydra)
I close my eyes, trying to imagine something nice, happy thoughts. Instead, I went back to that dark, cold, empty cell. Alone. Without my siblings to protect me from what I was about to endure.
"Are you ready PTRSpider?"
"No, please- No more."
"Wrong answer!"
I screamed in agony every time I was shocked with electricity, poked and prodded with needles, beaten when I answered wrong, not fed for days when I couldn't fight, kept away from Wanda and Pietro longer because I didn't obey my orders. It was torture and every time me or my siblings did something wrong, the others would get punished. I got punished the most.
"Are you ready to comply?" I didn't reply. I didn't want to. My heart beat quickens and I can't breathe. I want Wanda and Pietro. "ARE YOU READY TO COMPLY?" The man yelled. I whimpered, which was bad on my part. I got shoved in my cell and went into shutdown mode. It's not like I couldn't talk- it's because I'm afraid to. I wasn't fed for two days, I couldn't see my siblings, and my punishment for not obeying was worse. A few days later, a Hydra guard pulled me from the cell and threw me into Wanda and Pietro.
"Peter, are you alright?" Pietro asked.
"Come on, mysh. Talk to us please," Wanda pleaded.
"Peter."
I couldn't speak. All I could do was break down in Pietro's arms, be comforted by my brother and sister... until one of them had to leave.
"Mysh... are you okay?" Wanda asked.
"No, Wanda. I want mama and papa. I can't do this anymore," I said crying, into her shoulder.
"Oh, peter. I'm sorry. We shouldn't have done this to you."
"I wanna go home, but mama and papa are gone."
"I know Peter- I know," she shushes me.
I finally succumb to the drowsiness of not sleeping for days. I was awoken by Wanda leaving, but Pietro holds me close, singing me back to sleep. He promises he won't leave. The cycle continues through the night, one of us being taken, waking the others, then going back to sleep. Torturous nights, over and over again.
I shoot up in my sleep, my pulse pounding fast, breathing heavy breaths. I look around the familiar room and sigh. Running my hands over my face, I wipe away the beads of sweat. I climb out of bed, knowing returning to sleep will be impossible. I quietly sneak out of my room. "Hello, Mr. Maximoff," a voice says. I jump, looking around, taking a defensive stance.
"W-Who's there?"
"I'm F.R.I.D.A.Y, Mr. Stark's AI. If you don't mind me asking, why are you awake, Mr. Maximoff?"
"Well, Friday. I'm awake because I had I nightmare," I slowly relax from my defensive stance.
"Would you like me to inform Mr. Stark?"
"N-no, I'm okay."
"Well, do you need someone to talk to? I'd be happy to."
"Yeah. I do, actually. But you don't have to call me Mr. Maximoff. You can call me Peter."
"Peter. I like that name. It sounds very distinguished."
"Thank you. It was my grandpa's name. My middle name is after my papa." (I don't know what Wanda and Pietro's parents names are so just go with it)
"What's your middle name?"
"Benjamin."
"What are your parents like?"
"Oh, um, they're gone."
"I'm sorry, Peter."
"Do you know my sister Wanda?"
"I've spoken to her- yes."
"I miss her."
"Why?"
"Well, after the fight Mr. Stark and Mr. Rogers had, she left with Mr. Rogers- leaving me behind. Alone for a year and two months. She gave me a burner phone so we could talk and if we couldn't, we would write letters, but one day, she stopped. Then came to see me earlier today and found out my secret."
"What secret?"
"Can I trust you?"
"Mr. Stark trusts me, doesn't he?" She asks, laughing a little.
"Yeah, I guess he does, but this is the first time I have talked to you. I'm sorry, but I have a bit of a problem with trust."
"It's okay, Peter. You can trust me."
"Okay, well... I'm Spider-Man."
"That's cool. I won't tell a soul, but technically I can't tell anyone. I'm just artificial intelligence."
"Yeah, that's true."
"Peter, you should probably get some rest. You have school tomorrow."
"I don't think I can, Fri."
"Peter, everyone gets nightmares. All you have to do is face what's scaring you and everything will turn out to be better than before."
"Thanks for the advice, Fri, but you don't know anything about me."
"Oh, but, Peter, I do I know more about you and your sister than you know about yourselves."
"What do you know?"
"When you and your siblings were younger, your parents died. You moved into a foster home until you met Hydra and since Wanda and Pietro were the oldest, they took you to Hydra so they could experiment on you. Then Mr. Stark and the Avengers gave you a home here."
"How did you know all of that?"
"I have every SHEILD document in my system."
"Cool," I laugh a soft laugh.
"They're classified. Only Mr. Stark, the Avengers, and SHEILD have access to them."
"Okay," my smile drops.
"But back to the subject. It's time for you to go to bed, sir."
"Okay, Okay, Friday. I'll try to go to bed."
"Not try- will go to sleep."
"Okay, Friday. Goodnight."
"Peter, it's currently 1:00am."
"Well then, good morning," I make my way back to my room. Climbing into bed, I snuggle under the soft covers. I slowly drift off into a dreamless sleep.
