Chapter 44: Risking it all

Peter's POV

School today has been somewhat eventful with all the major gossip going around, and for the first time in a while it's not about me. Instead, it's about these sightings of a thief sneaking around people's houses and stealing mystical objects. Normally, I'm not to listen to all that drama, but I'll keep it in mind when I'm patrolling.

Ned, MJ, and I were eating lunch and having a casual conversation when I felt my Spidey Senses tingle and when I looked up, I noticed two police officers approaching our table.

An officer spoke in a neutral tone, "Peter Maximoff?"

"Yes?" I replied.

"We're gonna need you to come with us." He said.

MJ retorted in her factual yet not caring tone of voice, "Why exactly sir? What has Peter done that requires criminal offensive services at this fine, lunch eating hour?"

Ned chimed in, "You can't take a minor without their guardian being aware first."

The officer however, was having none of that. He stood tall with an annoyed expression as if daring one more person to argue against him, "Mr. Maximoff, I need you to come with us now, or I will have to fill out a file complaint that won't make the school look so pretty."

I sent a look towards Ned and MJ, telling them to drop it. I sighed, "Alright." I got out of my seat and grabbed my stuff and went with the officers down to their precinct and into an interrogation room where I was greeted once again by the same officer who insisted that I join him.

The officer spoke stiffly, "Hello Peter, I'd like to ask you some questions, is that alright?"

I replied in a semi-annoyed tone, "I already know what you're going to ask, but I'll answer it as if it's your job to ask questions." He sat there glaring at me with an intense expression that only made my anxiety bubble even more because they think they've caught a guilty man.

It's their job to figure out what went down, especially after a series of major crimes, but I'm not related to this case. However, if I show signs of panic and fear, they'll assume it's me and slap cuffs on me and throw me into a jail cell away from the people that love and protect me.

He spoke in a gruff voice, "I read your file, Sokovia is a rough place to grow up. Your parents must've done some shady things to have you living in that big house.

I kept my voice in a polite tone as I answered, "Sir, I do not know where you got access to my file, because it's heavily guarded under the AI's of Avengers Tower, including Miss Potts-Stark herself, and I do not have a criminal file, sir. Second of all, my mother and papa were good people, and I don't like that you are disrespecting the dead, especially when you know nothing about them. Third of all, that house was my mother's parents who had paid their dues when Sokovia was not a failed state. Anything else?"

The officer blunted my answer speaking firmer, "Mr. Maximoff, I do believe I am here to ask you questions, not the other way around. Mind your tone with me young man, I can easily send you to jail and right up a false report. After they died, you must've hated Tony Stark with a burning passion, perhaps you sought revenge?"

My answer was quick, "No, my parents taught me to be kind even if others have harmed me. Mr. Stark wasn't a good person at first, but he changed for the better, and in our time together, he took care of me and my sister."

I resisted the urge to bite my tongue and yell at the officer for his implications, who did he think he was?

His questions continued, "Hydra wanted to make you a soldier right? And if you claim to be such a good person, unlike the controversy surrounding your name, then why would you do that to yourself? For more pity?"

I quickly shook my head, "No. My siblings were offered that by working in their services they would be granted citizenship to America, and my siblings wanted a better life not only for themselves but for me. It's not like HYDRA said that they planned on torturing us along the way. I wasn't allowed a say, being that I was ten at the time."

He pestered, "So was being Spider-Man a facade for your real intentions harming the innocent?"

I exclaimed, "I've answered this damn question a thousand times! I've never harmed anyone, let alone commit murder!"

"When Tony Stark took you in and the Sokovia Accords were put into motion he must've thought of you and your sister as a charity case right?"

I sent him a hard look as he continued to explain, "I mean, obviously he didn't love you. You're not his flesh and blood considering how he grew up, he treated you exactly how his father treated him, but he doesn't have to worry about you now does he?"

I refused to falter my tone as I replied with every ounce of offense I could muster, "Sir, I don't know what you know about love, but love is more than flesh and blood. His own father didn't love him, but he found love in his friends and trust in people around him. He became a father figure to me and trained me to be the best hero that I could be. Need I mention that were it not for his sacrifice neither you or I would exist? How dare you say such awful things about a man who you don't even know!"

The officer snarled in disgust, "I know he was an alcoholic, and a playboy. Every party, he made out with at least five girls, and he threw parties every week. He didn't take things seriously, he only changed out of guilt, to ease a conscious that would be forever dripping in red! No wonder you're a murderer, when you praise the bearer of the death legacy!"

I argued, "And your corporations were doing a better job? Did you guys even try and look for him either? Or were you off partying that he was most likely dead? Were it not for his actions, the world would have been over in 2012, and quite honestly, your weapons aren't any help against aliens, unless they belonged to Natasha Romanoff. And sometimes, you have to learn and pick yourself up from your own mistakes. When I was betrayed by who I thought was a friend, I felt low and close to giving up. But I got up, and I did what was right. Mr. Stark taught me that, and if you are too blind to see how he has changed, then I'm leaving because you are wasting my time."

The officer stood up almost daring me to walk out, "I'm not done with you Maximoff, your brother Pietro died some years ago bloody bullet wounds in his chest. I wonder what he thinks of you now he's most likely ashamed to call you his brother."

It was my turn to lash out as I spoke in a threatening tone, "My brother died to save an Avenger, he died because he saw that the Avengers were right, and he did tell me that if I wanted things done, the police would be too slow to get off their behinds. Which is why the world needed more heroes. Don't you ever stop reminiscing over dead people who aren't even related to you? I see right through you, you're trying to get me to confess something I didn't do because it'd give you a nice smirk seeing that the prodigy of Tony Stark, the supposed murderous Maximoff is behind bars, well sorry to disappoint, but I'm no coward."

The officer fumes, "I saved the best for last, there's physical evidence against you for the murder of Quentin Beck."

"So did you kill him? Because no matter what crap you try to tell me I know the real truth. You're a murderer, and that's what you'll be known as forever. I wonder what I can get your dear sister to get her behind bars too, little witches belong in hell."

At this point I'm shaking and tears are rolling down my cheeks this officer is being sick and twisted with his questions.

I spoke enraged, "Sir, that violates my Amendments, if you continue to talk about my family when I have peacefully agreed to your interrogation, only for you to to continue to verbally harass me, I will have no trouble in reporting you to the highest of people, and believe me, I'm friends with Nick Fury himself. To answer your question for the final time, I did not kill the man Quentin Beck. He recruited many people who vowed vengeance against Tony Stark in hopes to use me as a tool to take over the world, taking advantage of my relationship with the man. He threatened to kill me, my friends, as well as my family once I figured out his true intentions."

It was my turn to stand up, "Also I'm allowed to leave whenever I want to so if you're done asking me these idiotic questions then good day detective."

"That wouldn't look good for you would it Mr. Maximoff."

"Maybe not but I know who I am. So do my family and friends and if you want a lawsuit against you and your entire precinct for taking a minor without guardian consent I suggest you let me leave." I said.

"Sorry can't do that." The officer told me.

I was this close to plain out walking out but the interrogation room door swung open and Pepper and Wanda walked in, one with an extreme business-like annoyed look, and the other with concern etched all over her face.

Pepper strode over to the officer and gave him what I imagined to be one of the worst conversations of his life while Wanda consoled me, softly speaking, "Mysh, you don't need to answer anymore questions, okay?"

Wanda noticed how violently I was shaking and pulled me into her arms, I softly cried, "Wanda, I want to go home." All I wanted was the pain to stop, but it never will.

"I know Pepper and I are taking you home. It's okay Bambi, I'm right here. You can stop shaking now."

"I can't Wanda I can't i-it hurts."

Pepper whispered something to Wanda and soon we went outside to where Happy's car was and we got in after we shut the door getting into the car Wanda held me close as I cried.

Soon my eyes started to close but Wanda brushed her hands through my hair shushing me so I let myself fall asleep and soon I briefly opened my eyes seeing I was in my room with Morgan and Wanda cuddling with me but I shut my eyes again falling back asleep.
