TW: Blood, burns, injury, etc.
You couldn't say you were surprised, but you were disappointed. Dream had personally placed an army of creepers up here, in case you escaped. He knew how scared you were of creepers, how much they triggered your trauma. And yet he still chose to use that knowledge against you. He was sick.
You really tried thinking of a way to escape. You checked your whole inventory for an enderpearl or just anything you could use to get away, but you didn't find anything. Sure, you had your bow and arrows, but you wouldn't be able to kill them all before one of them got too close and exploded right in your face.
You couldn't make a run for it either - there were way too many creepers, and the distance between them wasn't wide enough for you to run through. You couldn't go back down the chimney either, as you doubted you'd survive the fall.
The only hope was to shoot one of them now when they were at this distance, and hope that the hit would trigger an explosion. Then it would start a chain explosion from there, make every creeper explode around you, and hopefully, you were far enough away in order to not be hit. But in order for that to work, you needed to act now. The creepers were surrounding you, closing in the circle more and more by the second.
The rain was now pouring down on you like a shower. It got in your eyes and made your hands slippery around your arrow, but you still managed to aim with ease. You quickly exhaled to shrpen your concentration, before shooting the first and best creeper right in its head. You watched it slowly light up and grow bigger, before it exploded.
And it did set off a chain explosion. But it didn't work the way you had wanted it to. The creepers had been too close, and you had misjudged how wide their range was. You got hit. And you got hit badly - not just by one blow, but by several, all at the same time from every possible ankle. You got sent flying many feet up in the air, with such force that it felt like all of the air had just been sucked out of your lungs. You had managed to cover your face with your arms, protecting it from the fire. Therefore, due to the exposit, your arms and upper body were what got injured the most. You felt your skin burn so badly, to the point where it started to peel off your body when you hit the ground. When you did so, you felt something crack, and an immediate pain appeared in your leg.
It was a break, but it definitely wasn't clean. You couldn't walk and you barely could use your arms to crawl. Not only had the fire damaged your skin on them, but also the underlying bones, muscles, and tendons. It bled very, very badly. You also saw a red puddle appear on your stomach, and you got shocked to see that the lower part of your shirt had completely burnt up, exposing the wound.
Your teary eyes had a very hard time focusing, but despite that and the pain, you managed to set yourself up against the wooden wall of your old house. You desperately covered the wound on your stomach with your bloody hands, but it didn't help. You let out a whimper and bit your lower lip so harshly in order not to scream. It stung. It stung so badly.
All of the creepers were gone, but it was only a matter of time before they would spawn again. And you couldn't run. You were bleeding out, and your leg, which was btw pointing in a completely different direction than it should be, was obviously broken. There was no way you could fight your way out of this one.
The rain helped cleaning the wounds from blood, but it only made you realize how bad and deep they were. "Dammit." was all you were able to say in between gasps for air. You were hyperventilating. The pain was so severe, but it was also becoming too overwhelming for your body to register. You began feeling numb, the pain fading out along with your heartbeat. It happened slowly but surely.
You were dying.
You leaned your head back, rested it against the house you and Dream once had built together, and looked up into the night sky. Stars filled the darkness like pale corn into freshly turned ground. It was the promise of life in the darkness, a sense of warmth springing from the cold. They were lighting up every inch of the sky, every dark spot, and it somehow comforted you. As your vision grew more blurry, the stars only seemed to shine even brighter. Brighter and brighter, intact with the feeling of your own light fading out of your body. You were passing it on, giving it all to them.
The rain was pouring more aggressively now, trying its hardest to clean not only your wounds but you as a person. It was preparing you to be reborn. You would soon start disappearing to the sound of rain, drumming against every part of your body.
This wasn't a quick death like your first one, but it was just as peaceful. And you were accepting it, you were embracing your last moments with everything you had.
It was only your second life. Soon you'd only have one left. As beautiful and painful as this scene was, it was a warning. Because next time - well, then there wouldn't be a next time.
And that was okay.
Just when you thought that the number of seconds you had left could be counted with one hand, a sound cut through the darkness, all the ringing for your eyes, and it made you hold on. It made you save your last heart beat, and hold your last breath.
You knew who it was. You knew who had finally found you, and you wanted to see him one last time, before everything would be changed forever.
"(Y/n)! (Y/n), where are-" You heard his voice as clear as ever. His voice, that sounded desperate, terrified. His voice, that somehow always managed to make all of your alarms ring and make your heart skip a beat. His voice, that you've always heard as a melody. A siren's song in disguise, that only pulled you further into darkness. It had you spell-bound. Or well, it used to. Because you had finally gotten out of it, and you wouldn't ever let him pull you in again.
When he saw you, he nearly lost his balance. He didn't waste time running, he hurled an enderpearl straight to your side, and took off his mask with one quick movement. He threw it aside, not caring where it landed, and his wide, worried, green eyes were revealed. They were already filled with tears. A rare sight.
"Oh no. Oh, no no no. (Y/n), please hold on, stay with me okay? It's gonna be okay, it's, I-... Fuck." He cursed. He was stammering. He looked at your whole body, not knowing where to put his hands. He didn't know if he should hold yours, trying to stop your stomach from bleeding or just cup your face in your last moments. "How did- how did you even-"
His voice was just as shaky and fragile as himself, but you didn't let it fool you. Your weakened state ignored his concern, and managed a little laugh. It resulted in you having to gasp for ait moments later, but who cared.
"Keeping me right under our old house, huh?" You coughed up blood, and your voice was weaker than it had ever been, but none of that stopped you from sounding badass. "Who... Who would've guessed."
The dynamic changed immediately. Dream froze. His hair was soaking wet and plastered to his face. He had decided to place his hands on your shoulders, and his grip now tightened. You almost couldn't feel it. "Y-You... Do you-"
"I know." You finished. You would've nodded, but you couldn't move a muscle. How you were still able to speak, was a wonder. "I remember everything."
There was no point hiding it. There was no point beating around the bush. You were moments away from dying, for crying out loud.
You couldn't tell if it was tears or rain that ran down your face. You couldn't tell if it was water or blood that made your clothes stick to your body. You weren't sure of anything. The only thing you knew with certainty was that your plan had worked. Dream finding you hadn't changed a thing. You'd still get away. And therefore you still had the ability to smile.
Dream's emerald eyes widened. It was amusing to see them switching from shock to insanity so quickly.
"That's... That's okay, I... You'll just die and respawn in our bedroom. I have more of the potion that I gave you... I haven't lost you. Everything - everything will be fine." He sounded so desperate, so assuring that it made you sick. He never learned, did he?
You weren't sure if you actually did smile or not. You sure wanted to, because you were about to give this guy the biggest 'sike, you thought!' of the year.
If there was one thing you weren't, it was dumb. You had taken the possibility of you dying, before you got the chance to find another bed, into consideration. And that's why the one thing that you had done before climbing up the chimney, the one thing that would turn out to be essential: was breaking the bed and couch before you escaped.
"No, Dream. I destroyed it. Everything. I won't respawn there anymore."
Your vision was beginning to darken, and you held onto Dream's eyes for dear life. Literally. You needed to say this, and you seemed to have plenty of time to do so, because Dream was speechless.
"You know, Dream..." You began. Your tongue didn't give a damn about the poor state you were in, about the fact you were about to die. This simply needed to be said. "I was the one who took all of your bullshit. I was the one who cared about you, when nobody else did. The one who kept having faith in you, when everyone else told me to give up. I loved you, even when you gave me every reason not to. I was the one who stayed by your side, when everyone told me to leave. I gave you so many chances, and you blew every single one of them. I tried to hang on, because I thought that the person you used to be, was still inside of you somewhere. I thought you were worth it. But you've fucked up time after time, and there's nothing left in me to give you."
Ever since you had found out Dream's true identity, you had known that your mind was preparing your heart for the moment where you would say 'I'm done' and really mean it.
And that moment was now.
"I'm done, Dream." You finally said. "I'm done waiting for you to become the man, you tricked me into believing you were."
And just like that, your heart stopped.
You started to zone out, the darkness taking over. The blood escaping your body had finally been too much.
Dream shook your shoulders almost violently. He didn't want to let you go, but you were already gone.
Somewhere far away, you then felt Dream press his forehead against yours. And that was the last thing you felt.
-
Dream stroked your cold, tear-stained cheek. He hugged your upper body and rocked it back and forth, as it was slowly disappearing, respawning who-knows-where. His eyes met your lifeless ones, and he tried his hardest to remember them, because he knew that after today, he'd never see you again.
Not because you were dead forever. He knew you weren't. But because he had just lost the one thing that had kept him from losing himself completely. From letting the darkness take all over.
He had lost the one person that had he had fought so hard for.
And now there was nothing to hold him back.

You don't have to read the following, it's not relevant to the story in any way. Just wanted to get something off my chest.
So, status with Dream is fucked yet again, and lately, I've been getting a lot of comments saying how the relationship between (Y/n) and Dream is really bad in this story, due to lack of romance between the two and how Dream just keeps being a literal psychopath.
I'm sorry if you feel that way. For me personally, it's very fun to write. Besides, as said before, I want to follow the storyline as close as possible, and let's be honest, with all the shit canon Dream constantly pulls off, he's not meant to have a lover. I want (Y/n) to have morals, I want her to see how bad of a person Dream has turned into, rather than just be the stupid, naive and forgiving girlfriend, some of you might want her to be.
I've also been getting tons of comments about how some of you think that the relationship between (Y/n) and Dream has gotten to a point where it's beyond saving, and therefore the story isn't exciting to read anymore. That Dream has simply broken it beyond repair. So I just wanted to let you know, without spoiling anything, that I have a plan for everything. It'll work out. And so, for those few of you who keeps saying that I've ruined my own story, and that I can't fix what I've broken, I just have one thing to say:
Watch me
