Around the campfire

In which you
don't know shit

Dinner was some apple-pie leftovers from yesterday. Not very healthy, but it tasted very good.
You were wearing your new clothing - which weirdly enough fit perfectly. It was very nice to wear something new for a change, even tho your purple, iconic color was nowhere to be seen anymore. You felt as clean as ever.
Tommy's and Tubbo's clothing was completely dry now - which was good since it was beginning to get dark.
All five of you sat in front of a campfire, in comfortable silence. You sat beside Fundy, and the two of you had just finished a long conversation - you had gotten to know him a little bit better, which was nice. Apparently, he was born in L'manburg. He had never known his mother (who you really, really hoped wasn't really a fox) and you weren't really sure if Wilbur really was his real father, or just like a father-figure to him. Wilbur would be the youngest father in history if that was the case. But you didn't dare to ask.
Fundy had also asked you about your parents, to which you hesitantly told the truth. Fundy's ears dropped, as he placed a comforting hand on your shoulder. The three others, who had apparently been eavesdropping said they were very sorry.
You just smiled. Sure, it was hard to talk about, but it wasn't like you could remember your parents that well. Whenever you thought about family, about love, it was always his face that appeared in your mind.
You had just eaten the last bite of pie, when you decided to speak up. You wanted to ask a question, that's been on your mind the whole day. "So, what's the plan?" Everyone looked at you. "I mean, what are we going to do, and when are we going to do it? Capture Dream and his friends? Sneak attack them while they're sleeping? Surely we're not just gonna sit here until he makes the first move."
Tubbo and Tommy suddenly found the campfire really interesting. Fundy was very occupied playing with his tail. And that lead you to look at Wilbur. He looked like someone who thought very well of what to answer.
"Well, we haven't planned an attack of any sort. We want to settle the conflict with Dream as peacefully as possible. That said, if he attacks us, we'll defend ourselves at any cost."
"Have you tried just talking to him?" You asked. They all nodded.
"Yeah, of course, we have," Tommy said. "But that stupid son of a bitch is only interested in chaos. We've said that we don't want to fight him - that we just want independence. But his conditions for exactly that are just unnegotiable."
"I see," you mumbled. The more they talked about Dream, the more you disliked him. You haven't even met him, and yet you wanted to punch him in the face. "So... We're just waiting?"
Wilbur folded his hands. "Well, right now we're waiting for Eret to-"
"I'M BACK!" An unfamiliar voice practically screamed behind you. You turned around to see a man, hopefully, Eret, run through the gates.
"Eret!" Wilbur was immediately on his feet, meeting him halfway. Everyone around the campfire stood up, and you followed their actions.
Eret had light brown and wavy hair. From a good distance, he looked like Wilbur quite a lot and even seemed to be around the same age. He was shorter than Wilbur, but not by a lot. And of course, he wore the same suit as everyone else.
He was completely out of breath. He rested his hands on his knees, looking wide-eyed at Wilbur. "In a week." He said warningly in between breaths.
At this point, everyone was surrounding the male. You stood to his left, kind of concerned for his well-being. He hadn't noticed you yet.
"In a week? Eret what are you talking about? Did you talk with Dream?" Wilbur tried calming the male down.
Eret looked up at him and nodded. Even tho it was dark, the light from the campfire not reaching him completely, you could still see the pure panic in his eyes. "He said he'd make his first move in a week. We only have seven days, Wilbur. I tried to talk him out of it - I tried to say that there was another way than violence... The only thing we ask for is independence... But he got angry and said that if I wasn't negotiable, he might as well take me hostage. I ran as fast as I could. Punz chased me all the way down here. I don't know if they were serious, or if they were just trying to scare me."
"That fucking-" Tommy cursed and kicked a rock.
"A week," Wilbur repeated. "That's okay. That's fine, Eret. We'll be ready when that time comes. Don't worry."
Eret finally stood up, letting out a shaky breath. Then he nodded, calming a bit down. "Okay. But I did notice where he hid Tubbo's potions tho."
Tubbo's eyes lit up. "Really? Where?"
"Dreams base. In the mountain. You've been there before. I'm pretty sure they're in one of his chests."
"If we could get those back, within a week." Wilbur mumbled. "That would benefit us a lot. On the other hand, I don't want to make things worse than they already are, to try and steal them from Dream."
"Well, if he was the one stealing them from Tubbo in the first place, he can't really expect anything less, can he?" You pointed out, resting a hand on your side.
Eret jumped a little, upon hearing a female voice. He turned to you, surprise plastered all over his face. "W-Who are you?"
"That's (Y/n). She's joined L'manberg." Fundy explained while Eret stared at you.
You smiled, reaching out your hand for him to shake. "I'm (Y/n). It's nice to meet you."
Eret hesitantly shook your hand, finding it hard to believe they've gained another member in that short period of time he had been away. Tubbo explained the whole situation about how you fell into their trap outside of L'manburg and that's how you were brought here, and how you've now made a deal to help each other out. Tubbo even told him how good you were with a bow. Your ears heated up in embarrassment. Eret nodded, understandingly.
"Well, it's always nice to have another member. Welcome, (Y/n)."
"Thank you, Eret."
"Well, now that you've met each other." Wilbur scratched the back of his head. "Now should be the time to make a proper plan. We need to prepare for anything that might happen next week. I hate to say it, but we need to get armor."
"What about the potions?" Tommy asked, crossing his arms. "What if we broke into Dream's home? We could take the potions and even some diamonds without him noticing!"
"Absolutely not." Wilbur said. "You really think he wouldn't notice that? You'd only make things worse. Hell, maybe we'd get captured. If Dream takes one of us, hostage, it would be over."
"I don't know about you," you spoke up. "But I would really like to go outside of these walls, and onto Dream's territory. I would like to have an idea of where I am - and even who we're fighting against."
"That's right, you don't know shit." Tommy reminded himself. You scrunched your nose at his words, even tho it was true.
"I practically know nothing. What Dream, Sapnap, and George's weaknesses are. What they look like. What their fighting styles are. I'd be helpless in a war if I don't know anything about our opponents."
"She is right, you know," Tubbo said quietly.
Wilbur seemed to think. "Well, I guess we'd just have to describe it to you. We can show you a little bit around tomorrow, but I refuse to go into the heart of Dream's land - where he and his men live. That'd simply be too dangerous."
You thought it was unfair, but you got where he came from.
"Fundy, Eret, and I will go mining tomorrow, getting supplies. Hopefully, we'll get enough diamonds for gear to all of us."
"Wha- but what about us!?" Tommy yelled, clearly offended.
Wilbur looked at him calmly. "You'll stay behind with Tubbo and (Y/n), protecting L'manberg."
"But Eret said Dream will attack next week, there's no way he'd come tomorrow!"
"You can never be too sure. My words are final, Tommy." Wilbur looked at the moon. "Now we need to get some rest. We have a tough week ahead of us."
And so everyone did. You went to the bed they had made for you, and laid down. It was in a corner, across Eret's bed, and beside Tommy's.
You breathed out, looking at the ceiling. This day had been crazy. 24 hours ago you were peacefully traveling the world, in search of your old friend, and now you had signed up for a whole-ass war. Your life sure had taken a drastic turn.
You closed your eyes, deciding to get some rest.
It was only two hours later, that you were woken up by Tommy, who sat beside your bed, a warning finger for his mouth telling you to keep quiet.
"You want to see Dream's land, and I want to get those damn potions back. I'd say we give it a go."
