If someone had told you long ago, that you would help two men blow up a country, you would have either punched them in the face or just have been very worried for that person's mental health. But now that this scenario was reality, it honestly didn't seem so out-of-character.
Sure, what you had agreed to do was pure madness, and very bad (for the environment too). But sometimes, you had to do bad things in order to take down a bad person, right? You were becoming the villain in some people's stories, but not your own. And that's the only thing that matters in the end.
You had chosen not to tell anything to Niki and the boys. They didn't need to know, and you didn't really want them to either. Wilbur and Techno had also agreed it would be best to keep it a secret.
Your mental state had strangely enough gotten a lot better since you had made the deal with Wilbur. You weren't as anxious and angry anymore. It was like you had let yourself sink into the comfort of knowing that Schlatt would get what he truly deserved on the sixteenth. It was nice being able to count down the following days. It was nice knowing when it would all be over.
And the following days you had spent on training only. Much of which was with Techno. The two of you had begun battling each other for the sake of practice, and even though he would always win, you managed to put up a fight - unless it was a bow-only duel. If that was the case, you would completely destroy him, much to his dissatisfaction.
Tommy had gotten a lot better as well. Practically all of his wounds had healed, and the boy had returned to being his usual, loud self. He wasn't so angry at Techno anymore - now all of his anger was pointed towards Schlatt, just like the rest of you. As it should.
Today, Wilbur had called a meeting for everyone. It was the first 'real' meeting you've had in a while where you'd discuss the plans of what was going to happen on the sixteenth. That is if you didn't count all the secretive talks you've had with Techno and Wilbur lately.
Wilbur had trusted you with the location of the new button, and Techno had told said something about preparing for a plan B if doom's day didn't go the way he wanted it to.
But now, it was a meeting where everyone was invited. Niki, Tommy, and Tubbo still didn't know anything about you coming to terms with the whole destruction of Manburg thing. At first, you had felt bad about lying to their faces, but now you didn't really care. The plans you, Techno, and Wilbur had for the sixteenth made a simple lie feel like nothing.
You had all gathered around an oblong stone-table, taking a seat. Wilbur was naturally the one starting the conversation:
"Okay guys, we need to make something clear... There are two weeks until the day we've all been waiting for, ever since the day Schlatt became president. The day we will finally reclaim Manburg and make Schlatt pay for all the crimes he's committed. And we will take down everyone who tries to stop us in the act. This time, it won't be like the festival. This time, we're going all in. We will stop at nothing to get back what is rightfully ours, and I want everyone to believe me when I say, together, we're going to succeed." He looked at you and Techno. "One way or the other. No matter what it takes."
Tommy clicked his tongue. His arms were crossed and his feet placed on the table. "And this doesn't include TNT, does it?"
You and Techno shot each other a look, and Wilbur's jaw clenched. "Not if we can avoid it." he lied.
You were afraid that any of the three would object, just like you would have done just a week ago. But Tommy just shrugged, muttering a 'fair enough.' He really didn't know how far the three of you were willing to go to get justice. How far you had already gone.
Niki folded her hands, eyes locked on the table. She refused to look anyone in the eyes when she spoke; "I think we should do everything we can to avoid it. Blowing it up won't solve anything."
It would solve everything, your thoughts corrected.
"And we will." Techno lied assuringly, not mentioning anything about the little backup plan of his.
"And what are we gonna do until then?" Tubbo asked. "I'm getting tired of baking and training all day."
"That is actually why I gathered this meeting in the first place." Wilbur grinned. "The last couple of days we've spent on practice. Niki, you've gotten a lot better with your spear, and Tommy and Tubbo have pretty much mastered the sword. Therefore, I'm positive we can afford to spend the following days a little differently... Techno, you will continue with whatever you're doing, and I'll continue to polish our plans and strategies until they're bulletproof. But as for the rest of you," He looked at you, Niki, Tommy, and Tubbo. "You're going to spy on Manburg. We need to know exactly who we're fighting against, what weapons they are gonna use against us, who they will be targeting, everything. But most importantly, we need to recruit new people. We need to have the upper hand. To be in the majority."
Everyone processed his words with wide eyes. Tommy was the first one to question it. "What, we're just gonna walk into Manburg and recruit everyone we see?" He boasted. "That sounds like a very bulletproof plan, Wilbur, real genius."
Wilbur shook his head, fixing his beanie. "Of course not. Only people we think we can convince. I don't care what lies you feed them, I don't care just how much you need to manipulate them... We just need as many on our side as we can."
Niki had quite the trouble focusing her eyes. Then she let out a shaky breath. "Well, we already have Jack, I think. If Schlatt hasn't already gotten under his skin. He was beginning to doubt you, Wilbur, a little before the festival."
Your eyes went round. "He was?"
She nodded sadly, blinking her eyes rapidly for them not to tear up. "But... Maybe I could try and speak to Fundy again. He was on our side once, after all."
Wilbur nodded eagerly. You could tell his eagerness made Niki uncomfortable. "That's good! Very good! What about you, boys?"
Tommy and Tubbo exchanged worried looks, before both eyeing you carefully. "What about-... Uhm, what about Dream?" Tubbo was clearing his throat like crazy. He was speaking very carefully. "He was on our side not so long ago, and he still seems pretty interested in (Y/n). Maybe we can convince him to join us again? With him and Techno on our side, we'll definitely win."
All eyes fell on you as if they expected you to have the answers to all of their questions. All the questions that regarded Dream, at least. Something tightened in your chest. "Yeah, I don't think so. He sounded pretty serious when he suggested for Schlatt to take me hostage. And you know, force me to sell you guys out. Actually, my back still hurts a bit." You massaged your back and turned to Techno. "Actually, Techno, mind checking if I forgot to pull out the knife Dream stabbed in there? I swear I can still feel something-"
"Okay, (Y/n), we get it." Techno kicked your chair, but couldn't help but laugh a little.
Tubbo didn't understand your sarcasm. He lowered his red face and nodded, regretting speaking up. "I-I'm sorry, I forgot about that."
"Oh- Tubbo, it's fine. It's not our fault Dream is a coward."
"Maybe we can speak to Bad and Skeppy?" Tommy suggested, changing the subject.
Now it was Niki's turn to shake her head. "I don't know, Tommy. When I was in Manburg, they made it pretty clear that they wanted to keep being neutral. I don't think they want to participate in the war at all."
They groaned and everyone went back to thinking. Everyone except you, as an idea began to form in your head.
Wilbur noticed. "What is it (Y/n)? Do you have anyone you could convince?"
A smirk crept onto your face. "I might have someone in mind."
-
It was the first time you had walked alone to Manburg. You hadn't dared to enter the land on your own without Techno by your side before. It had been due to Dream's warning, but also because you didn't want to risk the possibility of having to meet Schlatt alone.
But now that you had already met him, there was no reason you couldn't go. Sure, if anyone saw you, they would probably try to fulfill the request Dream and Schlatt had made on the stage, but you wouldn't let that happen. You'd make sure to keep a low profile.
Tommy had asked many times if he could come with you. He had practically begged, but you said you wanted to do this alone. The truth behind it was, that you were afraid he'd freak out when he heard who you would try to convince, and you weren't in the mood for his complaints.
It was the vice president, after all. Your best friend, Quackity.
Honestly, you still didn't know what the hell had happened between the two of you. You had spoken one word in Spanish, and as result, he had basically thrown his shirtless self in front of you when you were being threatened.
He had told he hadn't known about Schlatt planning to kill Tubbo. And to you, that was a sign of miscommunication between the two, and therefore hope. It was worth giving it a try, taking that he wouldn't try and kill you. And even if he did, you doubted he would win.
You were walking through the forest, due to the tunnels still being destroyed. It was a good thing you remembered your way back with ease. Sure, this route was more time-craving, but the walk was also enjoyable. It had just rained, which made nature all wet and shiny, and you enjoyed the drops that would fall onto your face every time you walked under a tree. The fresh air was chilly with biting that made you shudder and shove your hands into the pockets of your aviator's jacket - but even that was kind of nice.
It took a little over an hour before you started to see the outline of Manburg. You had a hard time figuring out which way to go, but then you remembered where you had first seen Quackity: The white house.
Back then, he had been guarding the entrance due to a meeting he wasn't allowed to participate in between Schlatt and Sapnap. Your invisible self had snuck around him and got a good look on the inside of the house. You would easily be able to sneak inside again without getting lost.
And of course, it was only natural Quackity would be there since he was the vice president.
It was very positive of you to think that he would actually agree to join you. He was Schlatt's right-hand man, for crying out loud. But maybe, just maybe, you could open his eyes for how much of a horrible human being Schlatt really was.
But it turns out you didn't have to. Your friend was about to find out all by himself.
You had made your way to the white house, and it didn't take long to make out Schlatt and Quackity's figures in the distance. They were standing by the entrance and were clearly arguing. Mouth hanging wide open, you ran behind the nearest bush and hid.
"Dude, stop! What the fuck is wrong with you!?" You heard Quackity scold, clearly irritated. He was standing in front of Schlatt with his usual blue outfit and beanie on. His shoulders rose and fell in a heavily breathing manner, and he was pointing to the pickaxe in Schlatt's hand.
Schlatt was wearing a suit, and you could tell even from here that something about him was off. He couldn't stand still. His figure was swaying back and forth, and he had to take sudden steps to support his balance. His hair was a mess, and there was an empty bottle in his hand. He was drunk. You got a bad taste in your mouth just by the look of him.
"This shithole of a building needs to get taken down! Who even build this crap?" Schlatt spat out. It was a good thing he didn't have any idea of how loud he was talking. If he did, you wouldn't have been able to hear him.
On the other hand, Quackity was shouting, so hearing him wasn't a problem. "I did! I build it! And I spend a lot of time on it, so would you please stop destroying it!?"
But Schlatt didn't listen. He was hammering his pickaxe as harshly into the stone walls as his drunk state would allow him to. Quackity then tried to take the pickaxe from him by force, but this only caused the President to shove him away. Quackity fell to the ground with a loud thump.
"Listen, my guy, if I tell you to do something, you're going to do it! Understand me!? I'm the president! I'm in charge!" Schlatt placed his foot on Quackity's chest, forcing him further to the ground. He was still destroying the walls with the other hand. "So get your sorry ass to work when I say so."
The boy shoved Schlatt's foot off of him and got on his feet. His eyes were burning with anger, and so was his face. Damn, it was red.
"We share these fucking decisions together, man! I'm the vice president! Stop acting like I'm your servant, you don't get to tell me what to do!"
"Oh, give me a break, Quackity. You've always goofed around, you never take anything seriously! If you want to stop being a pussy, if you want to suddenly man up, that's good for you! But don't think you can suddenly get a say in any of this. As said, I'm the president. So I'm giving you the last chance to get your pickaxe and help me take down this piece of shit."
You eagerly leaned forward and removed some leaves and branches to get a better look. A part of you didn't like where this situation was going, but most part of you did. You had come here to turn Quackity against Schlatt, and now exactly that was happening - and you hadn't even lifted a finger! It was like the trash took itself out!
"No," Quackity responded firmly, crossing his arms. He straightened his back, but he was still way shorter than Schlatt and didn't make much of a threat.
Schlatt stopped his vandalism and turned around slowly. "What did you say, bitch boy?"
"I said no! And don't call me bitch boy, you don't get to talk to me like that!" He repeated, pointing a threatening finger at the President. He was walking forward in the hopes of Schlatt backing away, but the tall man didn't budge. "You know, the only reason you have this much power, the only reason you're the president, it's all because of me! If I hadn't given you my votes, you'd be absolutely nothing. You owe me everything, Schlatt!"
"Oh, I only have power because of you, I owe you everything," Schlatt mimicked childishly. He took a faltering step forward and brought the bottle to his mouth. When he realized it was empty he threw it at Quackity's feet who had to jump. "Shut the fuck up! I'm the boss, and you're only here right now because I haven't replaced you yet!"
Quackity nearly laughed. "Replaced me? Are you serious?! You know what, maybe I'll just leave. Right here, right now. I'm sick and tired of your bullshit. Good luck winning this war without me."
"Don't flatter yourself, Quackity. You make it sound like I actually needed you in the first place."
Ouch.
Schlatt continued. "But guess what; No one does. You don't matter, not even the slightest bit. Not to me, not to Manburg. You, however, need me. Without me, you'll be nothing," Schlatt warned, finally crossing the line.
Qackity took out his bow and aimed it at him. "That's it. I've had enough."
And once you heard those words, your mouth fell open. He was going to kill him. His boss, the president of Manburg. He was going to take Schlatt's second life, and probably make himself a criminal by doing so.
This day couldn't possibly get any better.
Schlatt rose his brows, looking at the arrow that was aimed at him. He chuckled darkly. "Oh please, you'd never actually have the guts."
"I'd watch my mouth If I were you. You're one lift of a finger away to be on your last life. You'd have to find a new vice president." Quackity spoke dangerously.
The president narrowed his eyes. "Do it. We all know you're too much of a pussy."
The two males stood like that for a good amount of time. You could tell Quackity's hands were shaking, but the determination in his eyes wasn't to be mistaken. He was seriously considering doing it.
"Let go." You whispered. The very insanity that had swallowed Wilbur whole was plastered all over your face. You were turning into the one thing you used to hate the most. "Let go of the arrow, Quackity. Make my job a whole lot easier."
And as if the act had been sent straight from the heavens, as if he had heard you, Quackity let go of the arrow. And the arrow got sent flying straight into Schlatt's chest.
