Eddie Munson did not seem to appreciate the fact that this group had sought him out to find him. He made that very clear from the moment he came out of hiding and launched at Steve before Andrea launched back at him causing a miniature dispute that Dustin had to be the peacemaker of.
Andrea stood with Steve behind her, although he was now maneuvering more in front of her as he wiped the blood from her nose before looking back over ad Eddie Munson who sat on the ground with Dustin Henderson right at his side.
"We're looking for you," Dustin explained as if it were the most obvious thing ever, "We're here to help."
Andrea watched as Eddie's head turned in everyone's direction. Andrea could tell that he was truly on edge, she could see the glimmer of fear in his eyes as he stood in front of the group.
"We're here to help," Dustin tried to explain as he pointed back at his friends, "You know Robin, from band."
Andrea looked over at her friends as she watched Robin imitate an instrument, "You know me from your table, dumbass."
"Andrea!" Dustin scolded her once again before adding, "This is my friend Max. The one who never wants to play D&D. Eddie. We're on your side. I swear on our mother! Right, guys?"
"On my damn mother," Andrea huffed out as she made a face at Steve.
"Yes. Yes. We swear," Max stuttered out as she looked around at the other members of the group.
"On Dustin's mother," Robin was quick to speak as she watched the guy on the floor, where Andrea was holding him still.
"Yeah, Dustin's... their mother," Steve responded as he kept wiping more and more blood away from Andrea's upper lip.
Andrea held a sharp gaze on Eddie who stared her down before Steve managed to get her head turned in his direction, breaking her concentration and causing Eddie to get to his feet, "It's okay."
Everyone sighed in relief watching the interaction. Eddie didn't make a move to attack anyone yet again and Steve finally wiped all the blood away from Andrea's lip since it didn't keep coming.
Andrea watched as Dustin let his hands fall from the sides of his head. Everyone seemed relieved and Andrea moved so that she was in Steve's arms. Keeping a close eye on Eddie as he fell back to the floor, Robin walked over and stood by the two as she held her flashlight.
"Eddie... we just want to talk," Dustin lowered himself down as he looked at the man, "Okay?" Dustin was being soft with Eddie while everyone else watched carefully.
Robin found herself walking over and lowering herself near Eddie, Max following shortly behind, "We want to know what happened."
The look on Eddie's face was devastating, he let out a small sniffle before saying, "You won't believe me."
"Give us a shot," Andrea added as she rubbed Steve's side.
"Try us," Max added as she shined her light on the ground in front of him.
Eddie looked at the group with a look of fear as he began his explanation.
But the words faded out to Andrea. She looked around, there was no one there.
"Guys?" Andrea called out as she looked at where Steve had once been, "Hello?!"
Not again... please god not again... Andrea began to look around as she yelled. Praying that she was not the only one there and that it wasn't happening again.
"Hello?!" Andrea screamed as she began to breathe heavily.
"Her body... it just lifted up into the air and, uh... and she just, like, hung there..." Andrea could hear Eddie's voice, she just couldn't see him.
"It's time," Andrea's head turned harshly as she looked at the man she had once known, her heart sinking in her chest.
His blonde hair looked just as it had back in 1979. The blueness of his eyes were cruel, Andrea shook her head as she looked at him.
"You're not real," Andrea shot before looking in her hands, the cards...
"It's your play, Andrea," He looked down at her, almost as if she were still as short as she had been at the age of twelve, "Or another one goes."
"What do you mean?" Andrea questioned, not beginning to pry through her fear.
"In the air... and her bones... uh, her... her bones started to snap... Her eyes man. It was... It was like there was something like, inside her head, pulling..." Eddie... god why can't she see them?! "I didn't know what to do, so I... I ran...away. I left her there. You all think I'm crazy, right?"
"No, we don't think you're crazy at all." Andrea nearly cried at the sound of her brother's voice, couldn't someone help her?!
"Don't bullshit me, man! I know how this sounds..." She could hear how Eddie's voice was breaking.
"I need to get back, STEVE!" Andrea cried out as she tried to get out, but nothing budged.
"Ah, ah, ah. Make your move, my dear, Andrea," The blonde man in the white outfit added yet again, "Remember what I taught you."
"We're not bullshitting you," Now Max was speaking, god, please someone realize what's happening... someone please get me out...
"We believe you," Robin was now speaking.
"Look, what I'm about to tell you might be a little difficult to take..." Dustin was going to explain everything but Andrea just needed him. She needed someone.
"Okay..." Eddie sounded alarmed.
"You know how people say Hawkins is... cursed? They're not way off...There's another world. A world is hidden beneath Hawkins. Sometimes it bleeds into ours," Andrea felt tears brim her eyes as it seemed like no one was coming for her.
"Like ghosts and shit?" Eddie was one for questions.
"There are some things... worse than ghosts..." Poor Max, Andrea felt tears slip down her face while she looked at the eerie smile of the man.
"Andrea?" Steve, oh, Steve. He had finally realized.
"These monsters from this other world... we thought they were gone. But they've come back before and that's why we needed to find you," Dustin didn't stop explaining though.
"If they've come back again... we need to know," Max added as she continued the conversation.
"STEVE!" Andrea cried out as she tried to run before the man's arms caught her.
"That night, did you see anything?" Robin questioned.
Andrea screamed and tried to fight against the man's grip but he threw her back down. She fell into a chair that she hadn't realized before. Cries erupted from her lips as she yelled for help. This couldn't be happening... not again.
"STEVE! DUSTIN! SOMEONE PLEASE!" Andrea sobbed as her surroundings around her became perceived as the lab.
"Particles, maybe?" Max was now asking questions, "Steve get away from her. She's probably going through her mind..."
"Silly little girl," The man shook his head as he sat down, the table in front of them changing into one with many playing cards, "Come on, Seven. It's your play."
"What do you mean? What do you mean by my play?!" Andrea yelled as more tears slipped down her cheeks, the window of the rainbow room shattering.
"Andrea!" Steve yelled, she could hear the fear in his voice, "Guys!"
Andrea let out an array of sobs as she tried to get out of the chair but it was like during the summer, something was holding her down. She couldn't move. She was trapped.
"No, please," Andrea cried, "Let me go! Let me go! I'm not here anymore, you son of a bitch! You aren't here anymore!" Andrea continued to scream even as her throat began to hurt.
"It would almost look like dust, swirling dust..." Dustin was ignoring Steve's words.
"No, man, there was nothing you could see or, uh... touch," Eddie was explaining slowly, "No! No!"
"Come on, silly, remember how we used to play?" He did not at all seemed bothered by how upset she was, he never had been, "This all can end once you make your move."
"WHAT MOVE?!" Andrea screamed as she prayed for this to end.
"What is it?" Robin questioned.
"It's like her! You know, I tried to wake her, man.... she couldn't move... it was like she... she was in a trance like she is..." Eddie must have caught sight of Andrea but how could they see her when she couldn't see them?
"Like a spell," Dustin now sounded frantic.
"A curse," Eddie's voice was heavily wavering.
"Vecna's curse," Dustin yelled before everyone seemed to be directed somewhere else.
"That stupid game! SOMEONE GET ME OUT OF HERE!" Andrea screamed before it was like something had a grasp on her throat causing her to start coughing.
"Come on," The man had a bright grin, "Come on, Andrea. Make your move. Make your move. Make your move. Make your move!"
It was almost like he was daring her to do something. He wanted her to make a move. Andrea was scared. This was almost an exact replica of a memory she had and she absolutely despised it. It was one of her last memories with the other numbers.
"No!" Andrea screamed as she shook her head, "STEVE! GOD, STEVE PLEASE! HELP ME!" Andrea yelled until she began to cough viciously.
"Who's Vecna? Andrea! Andrea come on!" Steve was yelling louder and louder.
"An undead creature of great power..." Dustin, Andrea wanted him to help her. She needed him.
"A spell caster."
"A dark wizard..."
"You're gone. You aren't around anymore," Andrea sobbed as she kept her eyes away from the cards in her hands, "You aren't real!"
"Papa asked me to keep an eye on you, you've been up to quite a lot of trouble lately," He spoke with a soft tone, one you'd speak to a child.
"Please, please don't..." Andrea had tears running down her cheeks.
Andrea wasn't sure she had ever cried this much. She couldn't stop the tears from coming. She never wanted to be back here. She never wanted to see him again. But here she was, sitting at the table playing almost an identical game to the last one they had ever played together.
"Come on, Andrea," His smile turned sinister, "Your move can save the life of someone."
Andrea sniffled as she slowly looked over at him, "What is this?"
"It's time," He shook his head as he held his cards up, "Make your move. You are protected, but that doesn't mean everyone is."
"WHAT DO YOU MEAN?!" Andrea screamed before it was like she had taken a harsh hit to her windpipe.
"Andrea?! Jesus Christ," Steve was still trying to wake her, and she wanted nothing more than for him too.
"It's just like Chrissy man... oh god."
"You're not going anywhere."
Andrea slowly peered her eyes down at the cards in her hands, knowing she had to do this as she slowly placed her cards down with a sob, "Two of Hearts, Four of Spades, Four of spades, and a five of hearts."
A laugh bubbled from the man's throat sending waves of fear through her body, "I thought I taught you better," He placed down his cards but they were blurred, the only ones Andrea could see were a Ten of Spades and a Joker of Spades, "Seems like you've lost..."
"Andrea! Babe, come on! It's me, you're okay! Just come back!"
Andrea looked at the man shaking her head before the flash of light caused her to cover her eyes.
"Drea! Come on, I need you! You're my big sister! God, fight it!"
"Don't be scared, my dear, Andrea," His voice turned more sinister, "You will remain untouched. Two are down... who will be the last two before the final card?"
"Andrea!"
Andrea screamed as she covered her eyes, finally getting out of the chair as she sank to the floor. Her body shook as she cried. Fear running through her veins, she refused to open her eyes. He would still be there. She would be playing that stupid game.
She felt a pair of arms wrap around her which caused her to scream and try to push the person off, "NO! NO! LEAVE ME ALONE!" Andrea screamed and she heard a bit of ruckus.
"Doll, it's us," Steve was the one who was trying to grab ahold of her.
Andrea was breathing heavily as she slowly peered her eyes open. She saw the items that had once been on the wall on the ground as well as a few things flipped over. Robin and Max were holding Eddie in place while Dustin was on his knees in front of her while Steve was beside her.
"I didn't mean to... I didn't mean to," Andrea felt tears slide down her cheeks, "I can't... I can't do this."
Andrea looked visibly terrified, she took a minute before deciding that this was all real, that it wasn't another allusion.
"See Eddie, she's not... dead," Max tried to lighten the mood.
Andrea threw herself into Steve's arms as she pulled Dustin over too. Holding onto them tightly as she tried to gain a grip on herself. She had just lost... but at what cost?
Both boys held onto Andrea as if she'd disappear. Both shared a common fear at that moment, that Andrea would be the next person down.
"We've got you," Steve whispered into Andrea's ear, "We've got you, doll."
They've got me. I'm okay. I'm okay... Andrea tried to repeat to herself in her mind thinking that if she did, she'd start to believe it, but she didn't. She was still riddled with fear. She still felt that pit in her stomach.
An overwhelming sense of guilt rushed through her as she pulled back from both boys with wide eyes.
"I just cost someone their life..." Andrea realized as she looked around at the group with wide eyes, "Oh my god... I just cost someone their life!"
Steve placed hands on her shoulders, "Whoa, hey, breath okay? You just were practically having a mind seizure!"
Andrea shook her head as she looked back at everyone, "No! Look, I don't know why or what the hell is happening but the same thing... the same thing nearly to the dot happened when Chrissy..."
"Andy, you didn't look like you were seizing out then," Steve exclaimed as he inspected Andrea's face, "It wasn't like this."
Andrea shook her head as she looked at Steve, "The only difference was when it happened... to her I only had this kind of thing at school."
Everyone fell silent for a moment and Dustin's eyes widened, "That's when you left the cafeteria."
Andrea tried to control her breathing, "Whatever this is... it's taunting me. It knows... it knows about me."
And that's what the group pondered for the rest of the night as they decided that the best thing that they could do was call it a night before planning on meeting yet again in the morning. The group left Eddie before dropping each member off one by one.
No one really had spoken after Andrea had in the shed.
What could they say? Hey! I'm sorry that I thought you were crazy or I'm sorry... explain absolutely everything no matter how hard it made you cry. Andrea wouldn't answer them even if they wanted to, she'd just repeat the same sentence.
I just cost someone their life.
No one really knew why any of this was going on to Andrea. Why she had suddenly been picked as a target - a target that wouldn't be killed during the time in her mind with this... this Vecna.
Andrea watched as Dustin and Steve sat in the Henderson driveway with her. The girl still tapping her fingers against the door of Steve's car. She knew that they were about to ask her a few questions and she was going to have to answer them, she at least owed it to them after all.
No matter how much it hurt her, these two deserved the truth.
After all, she could just give a short explanation of what she saw and not what had happened between her and the man that had caused her so much pain... so much anger and self-hate.
"Andrea?" Dustin spoke softly as he leaned forward, "Are you okay?" She knew it was just a simple question, god she knew, but she hated it more than anything.
Andrea turned her head to look back at her brother, her green eyes shining with despair, "I lost my hand."
The two boys looked at each other with an expression as if saying 'what the hell?', "What do you mean?" Dustin proceeded to question while Steve turned further in his seat so that he could face his girlfriend.
"What it makes you see... what it made me see. It was like a dream I had a while back, but it wasn't just a dream. It was an old memory," Andrea's voice wavered as she turned back to the window.
"Lost a hand? Like the card term?" Steve questioned as he made a face.
Andrea slowly nodded her head as she felt tears fill her eyes once again, "That was something I used to do with someone in the Lab a long time ago... until something happened and he disappeared."
"No one ever just... disappears," Dustin adds as he looked at her.
"I know," Andrea whispered as she placed the bottoms of her hands to her eyes, "And neither does the past."
Andrea dropped her hands after a moment. Finally managed to collect even a little bit of her composure. Whatever this was, it knew how to get Andrea off of her game. It knew how to make her on edge, it knew how to emotionally destroy her.
And it knew how to make Andrea Henderson weak.
"Look," Andrea looked over at her boyfriend, "Chrissy... she wasn't the first and she won't be the last... and the way it taunted - there will be at least four victims."
"And you got this all from... the memory he showed you?" Dustin questioned causing Andrea to nod, "But if it was just a memory why would you get that impression?"
"It wasn't just a memory from my mind," Andrea dropped her hands as her head whipped back around to her brother, "It talked to me - it was distorted... like something totally different but trying to stay on the line."
"And for all we know, she's right," Steve looked back at Dustin as he shook his head, "This thing is not going to stop."
"We've got to fight," Andrea's voice wavered, "And as much as it scares me, we've got to do this."
"Together," and so it was unanimously agreed.
Together. Together they'd go down.
