"You may now kiss the bride." Rang through Hyunjin's ears as stood next to the men beside him, all dressed nicely in black as white suits as they watched the groom and bride in front of them share a tight embrace before doing what newly married couples do. Being a child at heart he jokingly gagged at the two, making faces and blocking the two from his sight. The older adults beside him either shot him a glare and laughed him, especially the little boy he became the ring bearer for such a special occasion.
As you could tell, Hyunjin was attending a wedding. But not just any wedding, his mothers wedding. After years of being a single mother and taking no trash from the men that had came and gone, she had finally settled down with someone. Of course Hyunjin had made sure that his man that his mother of all people was marrying was okay. Just because his mother was... his mother... that didn't mean he couldn't dislike the people she chose to date.
Anyways, he was with who his mother was now married to. The groom was a pretty chill guy to Hyunjin, he had made sure everything was okay with their relationship before really, really trying to pursue his mother. The groom practically acted like an actual father. Whenever he got in trouble at school and didn't want his mother to find out, the groom would come to the recuse. The groom would let him confide to him when he didn't want his mother give him a lecture. The groom genuinely tried to make sure Hyunjin stayed on the right path and encouraged him to do the things he loved.
Clapping filled the air as the groom and bride turned towards the coward, bright smiled on their faces as they clung to each other's arms. On their fingers shining bright was their newly dawned tings to show their marriage, and they couldn't seem happier. A fuzzy feeling filled the boy's heart as he watched the two, weird thoughts pouring into his head. Would he one day be like those two? Finding the right special someone that he would be together with forever? Someone who would hold him dear to their heart like he'd hold them?
"Hyunjin," A masculine voice spoke, taking him off guard. He glanced towards the side to see his mother and he new step father making their way to him. The boy stepped out the way of the dress, not wanting to mess up his mother's wedding dress with his... partially dirty shoes that he forgot to clean the day before. "I would say meet my son officially, but... he's not in sight at the moment." The groom spoke, a nervous laugh following his statement.
Hyunjin gave the man a half smile upon hearing the mentioning of the groom's son. He had heard of his son a couple of times, apparently he was a relatively shy boy who kept to himself and didn't really talk to stranger much. His mother spoke highly of the son, always saying he was nice as his braces were very cute and she's miss them when he gets them taken off next month. Don't worry Hyunjin hadn't only heard of him, he's met him a few times.... somewhat.
Honestly Hyunjin didn't even know if he could call those interactions him meeting the boy. He'd been over the groom's house a couple times and he'd watch as the boy would shuffle into the living for food and drinks before disappearing back into his cave. Then at one point the step father had left for a few minutes and Hyunjin made the first official contact with the other son. But... it didn't really end well.
There was long stares and awkward hellos and bowing, uncomfortable expressions and looks all before the father had returned. In reality, Hyunjin really didn't know how to feel about the boy. He's just... awkward and weird. And from the stories his mother and her newly wedded husband have told him, he's not like that. Is weird that Hyunjin wanted to find out his true personality as soon as possible?
"I'll go find him myself!" He declared, a determined grin on his face. If the boy's father couldn't do anything to help the two connect, then Hyunjin would just do it himself. Both his mother and step father gave him a skeptical look, not knowing whether that was a good idea or not. Though he fluttered his eyes at them and gave them the most preppy attitude he could muster,"I should be fine don't worry. He's the shortie with the dimples and braces, he's hard to miss. I'll bring him over for a picture of us all too, since this is your wedding after all."
After a few more times of batting the eyelashes and giving them the puppy dog eyes, they went ahead and agreed to his plan. Though Hyunjin knew that his mother has quickly agreed because he has suggested taking a commemorative photo with the now newly put together family. Her husband on the other hand only agreed because his mother wanted him to do so. So the boy skipped off into the crowd, searching for his... step brother? Wow... this kid he barely knew was now his step brother. It could only leave so many surprises before Hyunjin could truly get used to him.
Besides that lingering thought in his head he walked through the crowd of relatives that had come together for the occasion. Many were new to Hyunjin, all wanting a look at the new grandson and nephew that they had gained. He was stopped many times by these exact people, being complimented on his looks and his height. There wasn't a day that went by when Hyunjin didn't receive those compliments, and while he used to be shy and awkward because of them he had grown used to it. Resulting in Hyunjin simply finding strategies that end those conversations as quickly as possible.
"Aw and how handsome are you!" A new relative spoke, forcing Hyunjin down to her height. Apparently she was a auntie who was rather short compared to the rest of her family. She had to stand on her tiptoes to even reach Hyunjin's shoulders so she made me bend his knees to be at eye level with her. "Gosh you look just like your mother, you've got all of Seohyun's good genes running through you I'm sure." She explained, pinching his cheek as she stared at his eyes and lips.
He gave her an awkward smile, thanking her for the compliments as he tried to get himself out of that awful situation. Who knew, maybe she'd try to touch his lips if she let impulse take control of her actions. Hyunjin glanced up and noticed someone that caught his eye. A boy who was standing in the corner next to a table full of food, playing on his phone as he avoided the crowd to the best of his ability. His smile radiated with happiness and you could catch a glimpse of his soon to be gone braces.
Hyunjin's eyes literally sparkled once he finally found his target. He mumbled a apologize and uttered an excuse so that he could get up and dash towards the boy he barely knew. Though it was like the boy had spotted him from a mile away and immediately tried to run away. Yet Hyunjin wasn't going to let that happen, he had to trap the boy in a conversation so that he wouldn't escape.
"Jeongin... right?" He questioned, coming up on the boy with a friendly smile on his face. He stopped in front of him, digging his hands into his pockets as he spoke again,"I barely talk to you, but it seems like we'll be talking a lot now. With your dad marrying my mom and everything." Hyunjin explained, trying to make a conversation.
The boy nodded,"Huh, yeah... I guess so." He glanced up at Hyunjin a couple of times before ignoring his existence completely.
He frowned as he watched the boy ever so intensely try and play a game on his phone. Being curious of what was so important on his phone, he attempted to peer over his shoulder to see what he was doing. "So... you wanna tell me what your playing so I can stop you from doing that so we can bond?"
"What? No. Can't you see I'm busy?" He questioned, trying to avoid him and make congestion short and to the point was Hyunjin going to take that? Absolutely not. He put all of his weight on Jeongin, making the boy get smaller as he latched his arms around him. He was almost immediately touchy feely with the boy now that the two were officially related. Plus he even got to see what was on the phone screen too! Apparently it was one of those superstar games that huge companies make whenever they get famous enough.
"Are you really ignoring your new brother for some stupid game?" Hyunjin questioned, a frown growing on his face.
Jeongin snorted, smiling at him with a cheeky grin before turning towards him. "Yes, because this stupid game is more interesting than you currently are." Ouch? That hurt.
Hyunjin resisted a glare and tried to stop himself from snatching that phone out of his hand. He was nicer than that, he wouldn't let one simple insult get to him. He wasn't just the only child anymore, he was the oldest brother. He couldn't stoop down to Jeongin's level. But at the same time... he really, really wanted to. "At least come take a picture with our parents? My— our mom wants wedding picture with all of us in it."
"Do I have to take a picture with you? You're so... boring. And annoying." Another blow to the heart. Jeongin was seriously getting on Hyunjin nerves. Almost on instinct he grabbed the boy's wrist, practically dragging him towards the bride and groom.
"You're going to take this stupid picture, whether you like it our not!" He exclaimed, making a effort to force Jeongin to love. Thought the boy continued to resist, putting all of his weight on his feet to make it harder to move him. "God, are you serious?! Stop being such a pain and take one picture!"
