Hyunjin walked through the school hallway, an annoyed expression on his face as he dragged his feet across the floor. A couple of students who were in the hallway at the same time greeted him, and he had immediately fixed his face to be more approachable. Yet when they were out of sight he went back to what he was doing originally. Now why was he like this exactly?
"Hyunjin. Hyunjin. Hyunjin. Hyunjin~~. Hyunjin. Hyunjin." Jeongin repeatedly called, a smug look on his face as he followed behind him. The boy ignored his callings and continued forward, trying to tune out the annoying voice that was getting in his nerves. Yet every time his name was spoken out of the boy's mouth, he felt as though someone jabbed him in the stomach.
Hyunjin was older than Jeongin, meaning that he was the boy's older brother now that they're parents have been married. Yet he refused to use the correct honorific when addressing whether they were in public or at home. It bothered him so much, you couldn't guess how many times Hyunjin had asked his mother for a younger siblings when he was a child. Now he had one, and he hated him.
"Hyunjin!" Jeongin exclaimed, cupping his hands around his mouth to make it sound even louder. It took him by shock, stumbling to the side and needing to recover from that. The step brother laughed, dimples and his nerdy little braces all showing off as he tumbled to the floor. Hyunjin shot a glare at the younger, apologizing to the people who were walking past that saw not only his brother act a fool but Hyunjin jump the way he did.
He crouched down on his knees, looking around the two before speaking trough gritted teeth,"What do you think you're doing?!" Hyunjin questioned, trying not to sound too harsh but reasonably mad. Jeongin stopped laughing after a few seconds, staring up at him with pure eyes and a innocent look. This lasted for a few minutes, just staring at each other waiting for an answer. "If you're trying to do some sort of puppy eyes it's not working."
"That always works!" Jeongin complained, sitting up with his arms crossed as he pouted. Hyunjin resisted rolling his eyes, fearing if he did so his eyes would be suck that way thanks to Jeongin being so... Jeongin. "It always works on my dad when he's mad at me, why didn't it work on you?"
"Because I'm your older brother." Hyunjin murmured, grabbing his wrist and yanking him up off the floor.
Jeongin narrowed his eyes before spitting back the words,"STEP brother. Don't forget that." He spoke, making sure that Hyunjin was reminded that they were not related by blood. He didn't to be reminded of that though. It's not like he wanted to be blood related to Jeongin anyways. If he was actually related to Jeongin... Hyunjin would have no idea what to do with his life. Thankfully they were only brothers by law.
There was a long silence as the tension continuously rose in the silence. Yet it broken when someone unknowingly intervened in the brothers quiet quarrel. "Hyunjin? What are you doing out in the halls?" A feminine voice spoke, taking him by surprise. The boy glanced over his shoulder to see a female student, short black hair and stoic expression dawning her face.
His whole body decided this was true perfect time to shut down on him. His legs fell asleep and butterflies began to flutter around in his stomach just like they did earlier. His utter failure to form stable sentences were gone and Hyunjin's attention couldn't be focused on her eyes, in fear that he might drown in her bea—
"Greetings, class president!" He spoke, his eyes averted from hers and his voice sounding a little more robotic than it should be. Jeongin gave him a look, either amused or quite disappointed on how awkward he was being. Without Felix or Changbin by his side to be translate his awful sentence structures to the girl, he was doomed. Hyunjin stuck out his hand for her to shake, internally cursing at himself. There was no need for that, they already knew each other from class!
She gave him an odd look, glancing down to the very noticeable stack of papers that were occupying her hands. He retracted his hands immediately, awkwardly laughed and shoving them into his pockets as he tried to brush past his mistake. There was a unease silence, awkwardness flooding through the area around them as Hyunjin had yet to answer the girl's question.
Jeongin cleared his throat, taking the odd atmosphere away as he addressed his presence. "You know my brother?" He questioned, keeping the failed conversation. "He was just giving me a tour of the school... letting me shadow him before when I transfer here." He explained. It was true, Hyunjin was supposed to be showing the boy around but all they had done was bicker and annoy each other as they walked down a hallway.
"Ah... that's very nice of you to let him shadow like that, Hyunjin." She spoke, making eye contact for a split second. On instinct, he bowed almost immediately. His body was in a exact 90 degrees angle, doing almost anything to keep away from her eyes.
"Thank you! For the compliment!" He exclaimed, not moving from his bow as he perhaps shouted those words at her. He didn't hear another word from her, just a slightly uncomfortable laugh as he watched her feet step away from the situation. There a small goodbye between Jeongin and student council.... but that was all. Once she was out of the area he collapsed onto the ground, his heartbeat unfortunately racing and feeling of failure dawning over him.
"Who was she? You called her class president right? ...so you must like your class president?" Jeongin questioned, poking Hyunjin in the cheek like he was just some roadkill that had recently lost his life. Upon hearing his statement he got off the ground, grabbing the boy's shoulder and saying the sentence he could not stress enough.
"Her name... is Yeeun. And I do NOT like my class president." He explained, a very serious expression on his face as he tried to get rid of any other suspicions. Jeongin gave him the same look Felix would when he didn't believe a word that came out of his mouth. "I like someone else, and I will NOT like the class president under any circumstances."
Jeongin blinked a couple times, processing the words in his head. "... you don't like her because she's not pretty and she's your class president?" He guessed, pushing his buttons even farther than he already did.
"NO! I mean... I don't like like her like that! It's not because she's not pretty, trust me. She's like one of the prettiest people here..." Hyunjin trailed off before catching himself and frowning at Jeongin. "I... I mean she's not my type! And she's my classmate and my class president. Why would I date someone so smart and kind and stoic and pretty... Wait a second forget everything I just said! Forget it! Delete that from your memory right now! Stop looking so smug, Jeongin I swear to God!"
Hyunjin sat at the table with his arms crossed, a permanent frown on his face as he stared at the strawberry milk in front of him. He made such an embarrassment out of himself earlier... it was humiliating to look back on it. He was almost sure that Jeongin hadn't forgotten his little incident with the class president and that made it even worse!
It wasn't his fault for always getting butterflies when she even looked at him. She always made him nervous, always made him confused. He's never reacted like this to anyone in his entire life. That meant he had to deem her as weird, out of this world! He had to find out what secret power she had to make him feel so flustered every time they came in contact with each other.
He couldn't be feeling that way. Not while he liked a different girl who had genuine interest. Or.... does he have genuine interest in this other girl? She's pretty and she seems nice and he knew he liked her long before the class president casted some sort of spell over him. Yet... what were his current feelings towards this other girl? Did he really truly like her or was his mind playing with him?
"You're so cute, I can't believe Hyunjin has been keeping you up in the dungeon this whole time!" Felix voice suddenly called, getting his attention immediately. He narrowed his eyes at the foreign boy when he caught glance of Felix on the other side of the table. He was pinching Jeongin's cheeks, playing with him like a new born baby. The boy seemed a little agitated with this but continued to let him have his way anymore.
Hyunjin leaned over the table towards them, slapping Felix's hand as he stared,"Don't play with the demon." Felix rolled his eyes, letting go of Jeongin in response to his actions and giving him his full attention. Jeongin sat a few inches away from the Aussie boy, massaging his cheeks to ease whatever pain Felix might have given him.
"Explain, Hyunjin." Felix demanded. "You said your step brother was practically terrible. But to me he just looks like a cute sunshine flower boy." He explained, wanting answers stat. Jeongin suddenly seemed intriguing, knowing that he was mentioned in this conversation meant he could make sharp remarks whenever he wanted. To him, this conversation was his business.
"That's because he's fooling you." Hyunjin told him, casting a glare towards his step brother. "Under that shy and kind demeanor is a horrible monster. An annoying, rude, and Got7 hating monster." He spat that last one in pure anger, still mad about the day they got into a fight over if trot or got7 music was better over the other.
Jeongin raised his hand in the air, a pretty offended look on his face. "Um? I'm right here?" He pointed out, hearing every single word they were staying. Though he was ignored as the two went on with their argument.
"Come on, Hyunjin! Honestly I think you're over exaggerating things. You always over exaggerate when you mention Got7." Felix stated, siding with Jeongin on the argument he wasn't even allowed to take part of. Hyunjin gasped, feeling more offend that Jeongin probably was. He grabbed the strawberry milk in front of him, aggressively poking a straw into it and slurped on it as loud as he possibly could.
First Felix sides with Jeongin... and now he's saying that he's over exaggerating when he's talking about Got7? Honestly, the nerve of this guy. And Hyunjin thought the two were close friends yet Felix is just going to betray him like that? "I see the type of guy you are." He spoke through narrowed eyes and forcing his voice to sound lower than normal. However right afterwards the taste of the strawberry milk slapped him hard in the face, realizing how much school flavored strawberry milk was just... really bad.
Felix rolled his eyes as Hyunjin spit out the milk almost immediately afterwards, regretting drinking it at all. Jeongin busted out laughing as soon as he did so, having something new to mess with him with as Felix slide a water bottle to him. "You know you don't like school milk, Hyunjin. What were you thinking?"
