𝐀 𝐘𝐄𝐀𝐑 𝐎𝐅 𝐖𝐇𝐈𝐒𝐏𝐄𝐑𝐒, 𝕴t had been a year. A year since her first and last quest when she'd saved the world alongside her best friends and were deemed heroes. A year since her father's kidnapping and the slaying of a dynastic legend: Obadiah Stane. And A year since she's been introduced to the idea of having a protector and her connection with Elysium.
Within that year, everything changed in Aurora's life. Hell, she was thirteen now and the world felt a little smaller than it was when she was twelve, the change was small but, oh, so noticeable to the Daughter of Beauty.
It's begun, she remembered Nathaniel spoke. The two words a mask of mystery for the girl but that's what made them all the more intriguing. What's begun? How did it trigger? Why prodigy? Why me?
"Hey," Her father taped the wrench against the motor in front of her. "Pay attention. I spent three grand on this and I don't want it to be ruined because you're off thinking about something else," he stated sarcastically. He paused from tending the object in front of him. His sunglasses were over his eyes, but he paused and tilted his head down to peer at her over them. "There's no one special in your life right?"
Aurora furrowed her eyebrows and went back to try and stabilize the energy beam in front of her, "What?"
"Is it Annabeth? Kaiya said you girls have gotten oddly close."
Aurora blushed, "Dad, No!"
"I just want you to know that you can talk to me about . . . " he paused "things. Any kind of things."
"Dad, that's not it!"
He stopped and placed the tools he had on the table in between them, "Is it that Jackson kid? Because I gotta' say, kid, Annabeth beats him by a long shot."
Aurora groaned in embarrassment and shook her head, "Its nothing like that, dad," she then paused and thought about it. "At least I don't think so."
"See!" He pointed. "How are you the Daughter of Aphrodite and not know?"
"Maybe because I'm equally your daughter."
He paused and turned to her, "What's that supposed to mean?"
"It doesn't take a Child of Aphrodite to see how you and Pepper look at each other," she shrugged and smirked. "Just thought I'd point that out."
His jaw dropped and he pointed a finger at her, "Now, That was a low blow," he grumbled. "Seriously, unnecessary."
Aurora rolled her eyes at his dramatics but nonetheless smiled.
"Hello, sir. Aurora," the familiar voice of her father's AI spoke. "I hate to interrupt, but I have Annabeth Chase on the line. She's requesting to speak with you Aurora."
Tony snickered while Aurora rolled her eyes, "Patch her through, J."
"Right away."
Tony smirked, "Want me to leave you two alone?"
Aurora scoffed and shook her head, "You're annoying."
Suddenly the image of a very familiar girl popped up on her screen.
Aurora hadn't seen her best friend's face for two weeks as she was trying her best to mend the broken relationship she had with her father. From time to time, the blonde girl would give updates to her best friend about her health and adjustments and luckily for Aurora—whom was incredibly worried, everything sounded great.
But the look on her best friend's face frightened her.
Her curly hair was frizzy as if she'd either been running or running her hand through it one too many times. Her eyes looked frantic, glancing from behind her to her left and right and finally to Aurora.
Aurora's eyes furrowed in concern and even her father dropped his tools in worry, "Annabeth?"
Annabeth's gray eyes widened in relief, "Rory!" She exclaimed. "Thank the gods!"
"What's going on?" A roar suddenly echoed the line causing the gray eyed girl to sprint. "And what is that noise?"
"Odontotyrannos," Annabeth spoke as she suddenly dove to the ground in order to dodge an oncoming tree trunk. "He's been chasing me since I lost the basilisk in Maryland."
Aurora stood from her chair in a rush at the situation her friend was in, "Annabeth, Where are you now? I'll head to you," she shared a glance with her father who understood her look. "Just give me your location."
Another roar echoed through the line.
"Annabeth!" Aurora urged. "Location now!"
"No!" She yelled.
Aurora scoffed, "No? What do you mean, No?"
"I can lose him! You need to get to Percy!" She cried. "Take him to camp! I'll meet you there."
"Brain—"
"Rory," Annabeth spoke sternly despite a monster moments away from clawing at her. "Something's wrong with Camp!"
The phone fell to the ground as Annabeth went to dodge an oncoming attack. A roar echoed once again and Aurora was finally able to get a clear view of the monster.
It had a horse like head the color black, with three horns protruding from its forehead. It was much bigger than an Elephant, Aurora noticed.
"Go!" She cried. "I'll meet you there! Camps in trouble."
And the line went dead.
Aurora stared wide-eyed with her father for a long moment. Scared of what was to come.
"How quick can you get me to Queensboro bridge?"
Her father glanced at her from his view of his Iron man suits before him. His eyes just as fierce as hers, "Give or take . . . Ten minutes."
"Make it five and tell Happy to meet us there."
