Peter walked through the hallways of Cair Paravel. He loved to explore the castle, behind every corner waited something new.
"Peter?", a voice said behind him and he turned around to look into Lucy's face. She looked up to him, almost sad and scared at once.
"What happened?", he asked worriedly.
"I need to tell you something", she almost whispered and pulled him lightly into another room.
Peter was really worried by this point now.
"Do you remember the night before the battle when Susan and me weren't there and Aslan died?", she asked, after she had closed the door.
"Of course", Peter said. How could he have forgotten that?
"Well, Susan and me watched it and-"
"What?", Peter asked sharply.
"That's not my point!", Lucy said. "We also were there when He came back to life and He told us that He..."
Lucy looked around.
"He told us that he had sacrificed himself."
"What do you mean?", Peter asked confused.
"I mean that if he hadn't died, Edmund would have. The thing he promised the witch in the tent - it was that he would die instead of Ed", Lucy said quietly.
Peter was too shocked to say anything.
Sacrifice?
For Ed?
"But...why would he do that?", he whispered.
"I don't know", Lucy whispered back and looked up, tears in her eyes.
Peter pulled Lucy into a hug.
"Thank you for telling me", he said quietly. Lucy sniffled and only then Peter realised that she cried.
He bent down to one knee.
"Hey, Lu", he said.
She didn't look up.
"Why are you crying?", he whispered.
"I just don't understand why Aslan would sacrifice himself for Edmund!", she cried.
"I don't understand too", Peter said. "But I don't understand barely anything of what Aslan does, and why he does it."
Lucy nodded and smiled. "He's not a tame lion", she said quietly.
"No, he's not. And that's why we'll never understand him. And until the day we will understand we can be thankful."
Lucy smiled and looked up.
"Yeah, that seems good."
