Polly knocked at the wooden door.
The house had a bell, but when she was younger she had always knocked, it was sort of a tradition.
Digory opened.
"Polly! Good that you're here, could you help me with-"
Polly sighed.
"Really? Not even a single "hello"?", she said.
Digory stopped in his movement and laughed.
"Hello Polly", he said then.
"Hello Digs", Polly said smiling.
"So, where can I help?"
Digory had lost much money in the last years, and now it had been decided that he had to move from the big mansion into a small house. Polly came to help him out.
Digory let her in and Polly looked around sadly.
Everywhere were boxes and bags and it didn't looked at all like the great parlor that it was.
Her gaze fell to the right side, where a dark spot was on the wall.
"Do you remember when you scratched your knee open at that wall?", she asked and smiled.
Digory turned around.
"Yes", he said and laughed a bit. "Mother came running in and looked so worried!"
"Well, your scream sounded pretty terrifying."
"I didn't scream."
"You did."
"No, I didn't!"
"Yes, you did, don't deny it!"
"Well, maybe just a little bit. But not terrifying!"
Polly laughed.
"Oh, and do you remember when I wanted to give you a little scare but you got so scared you fell down the stairs and almost broke your foot from tripping?", Digory asked.
"I didn't almost break my leg!", Polly protested.
Digory rolled his eyes.
"Of course you didn't", he mumbled.
Polly busted out into laughter and Digory started laughing too.
"It was you who fell into the lake, right?", Polly asked.
"Yes, because you pushed me!", Digory called.
"Hey! I didn't!", Polly said, but because she was laughing and both of them knew the truth, it didn't sound really convincing.
"Remember when you first saw the parlor? And your room! You were in awe!", Digory said smiling.
"Well, the parlor was beautiful! As was my room!", Polly said and smiled, almost sadly, knowing she wouldn't sleep in that room ever again.
"Can...can I see it one last time?", she asked.
Digory smiled and nodded, before walking up the stairs.
He led her to the room, but Polly could have went that way with her eyes her ears closed.
Digory opened the door, made a little bow and said:"Make your way inside, Ma'am!"
Polly laughed. "Narnian Lady!", she corrected and went inside.
"Oh look, there is my sketch book!", she exclaimed. It was a small, black note book she always had drawed and written in.
"How good that I came up here one last time!", she said while picking it up and opening it.
She had gotten the book right after their adventure in Narnia, Digory's mother had given it to her for her birthday.
The first page was filled with a sketch of Digory, who sat in the grass, looking disappointed.
Polly had laughed hard about him seeing like this and had to draw him.
And the next sketch was one of his uncle Andrew, how he had looked in Narnia.
Polly closed the sketch book smiling.
"This old house", she said while touching the wall with her hand.
"If only you could keep it longer."
Digory smiled sadly.
"If only."
