Susan didn't like school that much, especially now. It was her first time in school since she had been in Narnia and it wasn't easy, not for her nor any of her siblings.
But she tried to make the best of it while Edmund always complained, Lucy always said, that they would come back sooner or later and Peter always got into fights because he acted like he owed no one anything, even if he just had to say sorry.
Today a new girl was supposed to come into her class and Susan wasn't that excited.
You probably didn't get excited for normal things when you had fought in battles.
Susan looked up from her book when she walked in but there was nothing that special about her and so she got back to reading.
„Hello!“, a voice said and Susan looked up.
The new girl smiled at her. Her hair was brown, straight, and cut into layers. A blue feather hung on one side. Susan couldn't see what colour her eyes had, it was as if they didn't have specifically one colour but more.
„My name is Piper. Who are you?“, she asked.
„I am Que-“
Susan stopped at the right moment.
„I am...Susan“, she said and smiled.
„That's a pretty name“, Piper said. „Can I sit next to you?“
„Of course“, Susan said and closed her book.
„Oh, I've read that one!“, Piler said excitedly. „It's really good, right?“
Susan nodded.
„I'm at the beginning but it seems to be well written and it tells an interesting story“, she said.
The two girls proceeded to talk about the book until class started.
Susan liked this girl and they stayed friends for many years.
Piper liked fantasy novels and Susan started to like more non-fantasy books.
And Susan wanted to tell Piper about Narnia and its wonders.
So she told Piper about this childish game that she used to play with her siblings.
She told Piper, that she used to be Queen.
She told Piper about Aslan.
And after a time Susan started to believe that Narnia was nothing else than a childish game.
And as the two were 21, she was with Piper, when the message came that her family had died in a train crash.
Piper tried her best to help Susan and Susan was very thankful although she didn't show it.
But Piper stayed with her, during that whole, terrifying time.
And Susan slowly started to remember.
She remembered the smell of cookies, of Mrs. Beavers cookies.
No, they probably just thought of Mrs. Beavers cookies because their Mom was making cookies at that moment.
She remembered the sound of Peters and Edmund's swords that were clashing against each other.
No, probably just the sound of the forks the two used for fighting.
But deep inside she knew that Narnia was real and when she let that thought take over her mind, she started to become happier.
Piper realised that and that made her happy because her best friend finally seemed to get back to normal.
But Susan was far away from that.
And one morning, after a sleepover with Piper, Susan remembered one detail.
She looked at a picture Lucy had drawn. On it were a throne and a girl with a crown on her head.
„That was me“, she whispered.
„I was Queen. I was Queen Susan the Gentle.“
„What?“, Piper asked.
„Nothing“, Susan said, while not looking away from the picture.
I just remembered my name.
The name I wanted to tell you when we first met.
