How is this idiot still asleep I thought to myself as I looked down at (y/n) still fast asleep, now on my back and slightly scoffed, you're lucky I tolerate you I thought to myself as she rolled over and snuggled into my fur. My tail wagged at the common but cute gesture and I continued on through the forest on our familiar trails we had made over time.
I felt (y/n) start to slip off my body and I instinctively whipped my head around and put it under her torso and gently nudged her back on top of me with a low growl still unimpressed by her sleeping past mid day. I located one of the most secluded lakes in our area and found a shady area and layed back down letting (y/n) slip off my back down to the soft moss and grass underneath us and propped her up on my side.
I stretched feeling my hangover kick in and slowly opened my eyes to see the blinding sun, causing my head to throb "Good morning Katsuki." I said while reaching up for Katsuki's neck and gently scratching his forever lush fur, making Katsuki wag his tail. I then realized how unbelievably hot it was today, I used Katsuki's shoulder and slowly stood up and felt the blistering heat fully hit me when I exited the slightly cooler shaded area, Katsuki must have moved us I thought to myself as I stretched my arms over my head with a yawn, I saw the clear water lake in the clearing with charcoal coloured sand surrounding it and about one and a half kilometers in was a small island and smiled immediately taking off the thick amount of clothes, gear and weapons I had on and rushed into the refreshing clear water. Katsuki extended his paws out in front of himself, shifted slightly to bring his back legs behind him and raised his bum in the air and stretched his paws out even further, his large mouth opened wide and his tongue curled out of his mouth into a long strained yawn. Katsuki stood back up but kept his head low and began to gently shake off his tribal necklaces he always kept on and left them on top of my clothes. Katsuki strode over to the beach and slowly made his way into the water with me, I happily swam over to the oversized wolf and held onto him slightly before getting shoved off "Oh playing rough huh?" I smirked as I proceeded to attempt to climb onto Katsuki.
Katsuki would spin, jump and dunk me underwater and successfully got me off multiple times but eventually gave in and let me lie down on his back and play with his fur, the way he liked. Katsuki began to walk deeper into the darkening water with me still laying on the back of the blonde creature while looking up at the clouds beginning to form in the sapphire sky.
The water became more and more shallow and I looked over to see Katsuki had brought us to the island in the middle of the lake. I smiled and carefully eased off Katsuki, "It's beautiful Katsuki." I smiled as I held onto one of his front legs and leaning my head on him, barely reaching his shoulder, Katsuki Looked down at me with what seemed to be a smirk and began to run out of my grasp, I smiled as he continued to look at me as he ran through the small forest that decorated the small island. I happily began to run after the massive wolf, chasing him though the thick and undisturbed forest.
I layed In the charcoal sand that surrounded the island, panting heavily after I was easily beat in Katsuki and I's little game of tag on the small uninhabited island, I felt the sand shiftΒ near me and I turned over to see Katsuki's ears twitch, I sighed knowing that he was probably starting to get an off feeling. I stood up with a small grunt and made my way back into the cool clear water to get the sand off my body and Katsuki followed suit, still with his head up high, ears up in full alert as he stayed as close as he could to me. I pated Katsuki so he would lower himself so I could climb on the large wolf, which he quickly complied with and I hopped on the large animal, as he began to walk through the deepening waters. "Katsuki, are you alright?" I whispered as I moved closer to hold onto Katsuki's neck, because without him I was basically completely defenseless, of course I can fight, but it helps to have clothes on. Katsuki huffed which normally meant he wanted me to shut up. I brought myself closer to Katsuki, nervous of what he was being so cautious about.
We got back to our stuff and I quickly put my clothes and armour back on and slinging my bow and arrows over my shoulder "Let's move closer to the capital, I still have some money to give to some townsfolk and it would be safer for the both of us." I whispered, gently putting Katsuki's necklaces back around his neck, he didn't look happy about the idea but it's what was safest, with hunters, the King's guards and dangerous creatures lurking these dense forests, it was never safe but if something was bothering Katsuki that much, there was something big out there. I quickly hopped on Katsuki's back, taking out a map to be able to find our way to the capital, my finger dragged over the creased paper as I found where we were and where we needed to be. It was around half a day's journey so we would get there around dark so we would be able to avoid any unwanted attention. I told Katsuki to start heading north, gently folding the map and placing it in my satchel, I moved my hands to the base of Katsuki's neck and held onto his necklaces for balance. And even though he hated being told what to do Katsuki always complied and he quickly began to run through the thick forest, spreading the weight of the two of us on all four paws to limit the amount of sound he made as he ran along the uneven forest floor.
The sun began to set and Katsuki slowed down letting me throw my legs over his side and let my feet hit the ground and took a few extra steps to balance myself, Katsuki came to a full stop and sat down slightly panting for keeping a steady pace on the relatively hot day for such a long time. I reached up for Katuski's snout and he rolled his eyes and brought his head down so I could gently pet his snout and scratch under his chin "Since you got us so close to the capital and so fast, I'll go get dinner." I smiled, holding each side of his snout and gently kissing his nose, Katsuki wagged his tail but pulled his face away from my grasp. I giggled and turned and slowly built my speed to a sprint, listening to each sound that the forest filled with life produced as I kept my fast pace, jumping off rocks hurdling over fallen trees and swinging off low hanging branches.
I quickly found a small herd of deer, two small babies following behind their mother and I smiled gently as I hid behind a large moss covered rock. I held my bow tightly leaning it on the top of the rock as I pulled back one of my arrows, I aimed at an older female that was trailing behind "I'm sorry poor creature, I hope you had a long, fulfilling life and I hope to see you again in your next life." I whispered to myself as I released my arrow. It hit the doe directly in the shoulder instantly bringing her down, alarming the other deer causing them to run off in the opposite direction. I jumped over the rock and ran down to retrieve my kill, I sighed and removed my arrow from the lifeless doe, "I'm happy you didn't suffer." I said to myself as I grabbed her by her front hoof and pulled her over my shoulder with a small grunt. The sun was almost completely set and I began to jog my way back to Katsuki.
I found Katsuki lying under a tree with his head tucked into his paws, not wanting to wake him, I got closer trying not to make a noise. I slowly put the doe on the ground, but Katsuki must have heard and shot up from his sleep and tackled me to the ground, his sharp claws pierced my forearms as he growled aggressively at me "K-Katsuki... it's me." I struggled to say with his body weight pushing me into the dirt and roots underneath me. Katsuki's eyes adjusted to the light and he took a sniff of my hair then immediately got off me, I groaned feeling small bits of blood dripping down my arms from the fresh wounds, Katsuki stuck his nose under my head and helped me sit up slowly "It's ok Katsuki, I should have woken you to let you know I was back." I smiled painfully as Katsuki sat in front of me with his ears flat on his head, eyes glowing a dark sorrowful red in the dimly lit forest. "I'm going to get some firewood, I'll be back soon." I said slowly, bringing my stinging arm to Katsuki's and patting it gently before wandering off into the forest for wood.
The moon and the dancing fireflies were my only light source but it was easy to get dry wood especially because of the hot day we just had. I was on my way back to Katsuki when the clouds completely covered the moon, the world seemed to grow brighter, almost thriving better without the moon. Different plants and flowers glowed brightly in the dark environment, fireflies seemed like stars in the night. I walked along the moss ground and looked behind me to see each heat signature from my feet had been marked by the moss and slightly fading as the warmth faded as well. I smiled and skipped back to Katsuki completely forgetting the pain in my arms as I carried heavy sticks and logs back to camp, in a daze from the captivating lights that surrounded me.
"I'm back." I spoke gently this time, the wolf looking at me with his glowing brighter in the ill lit environment. I neatly stacked the dry wood and went in my satchel to find my flint and quickly started a large fire. I was about to start skinning the doe when Katsuki stopped me by gently grabbing my hand in his mouth, I turned to him and he let go "What is it?" I questioned softly, Katsuki bent down and licked the punctures in my arm, gently cleaning both my arms. "What would I do without you." I kissed his forehead and scratched the spot that always made his leg twitch, behind his ear. I opened my satchel and grabbed a small container with an herbal healing mixture one of the townsfolk taught me how to make and I spread it across my arms, wincing at the immense stinging I got from the mixture but moments later the pain had been completely numbed. I used some bandages to wrap my arms tightly and only then did I grab a dagger that was strapped to my outer thigh to skin the doe.
I entered the capital and the only loud noises were mainly only coming from the pubs that lined the streets, so I was easily able to slip past any guards doing late night patrols of the capital, I passed by Yachi's small house with a small frown hoping all was well, before stopping by as many houses as I could, receiving little gifts that I tried to refuse from different shop owners and children.
I quickly ran back to the forest happy about another completed mission through the capital making innocent people smile again.
I found Katsuki cleaning his bloodied paws and snout, the fire just barely lit, allowing the bio-luminescent plants to glow brighter and the fireflies to dance through the night sky more visibly. I sighed sitting down and leaning against Katsuki's soft torso relaxing as I slowly and lazily removed my weapons. Without even being able to close my eyes I heard shouting, I shot up in panic, grabbing my weapons once again. "It's the Kings knights, what are they doing all the way out here?." I questioned softly, bringing myself to my feet and swiftly going to check out what had been happening, Katsuki of course followed after me, afraid of me going off on my own and getting into trouble. We quickly came across the group of shouting knights, I was about to move closer but Katsuki grabbed my cloak in his jaws tightly holding me back, I sighed knowing he was probably right to stay decently far away for both of our sakes. I squinted and saw what looked to be a large catapult with a net ready to be launched, the net was massive, large enough for Katsuki to slip through the holes in it, it was also weighed down with boulders that looked almost as big as I was 'What the hell is going to get caught in that thing'. The Knights began to shout as a large amount of wind passed over usΒ and they launched the catapult. Something seemed to scream out and pain and eventually crash into the ground.
I began to sprint through the forest in hopes that I would get there before any knights reached the creature, Katsuki stuck his head through my legs and tossed me on his back by merely lifting his head back up again and he began running towards the strange screeching creature. I readied my bow and arrow, preparing for the worst, seeing flashes of red through the moonlit forest as we approached the creature.
What I saw when I first came to the clearing where the creature lay, was nothing I ever would have thought it to be. My eyes opened wide as I saw a bruised, bleeding dragon riddled with arrows piercing through it's scales along with the asphyxiating net wrapped tightly around the beast's neck and body. I checked behind me to see the knights were still a decent ways away, I dug through my satchel and grabbed my healing mixture and slowly moved to the massive dragon beginning to speak slowly to the pain riddled creature "I'm here to help you, please stay calm, I'm not with them." I said moving my hands up to show the creature I trusted it and it had nothing to be afraid of. I made my way to the Dragon's neck, quietly panicking as Katsuki watched on full alert, remembering how we had met was a similar situation to this. I pulled the knife that was strapped to the outside of my thigh only for the dragons blazing red eyes darted open, he bared his massive fangs ready to kill me without any hesitation, "I want to help you.......I'm not going to hurt you." I said just audible enough for the rare creature to hear, I heard Katsuki bark at me, letting me know that the knights were quickly getting closer. "Shit..." I cursed under my breath quickly using my knife to cut the tight trope from the Dragon's neck and running around its body quickly attempting to cut the thick rope. The knights had finally caught up and I just finished cutting the Dragon free, Katsuki ran over to me and I grabbed onto him about to climb onto his back, when I felt a massive amount of movement behind me. I panicked and latched onto Katsuki as the massive Dragon behind us got to its feet and let out an ear shattering roar. I hopped on Katsuki about to run off but was quickly removed from Katsuki by an enormous set of claws wrapped around my entire body.
