Rosalyn watched Neville rush out of the compartment and heard Hermione say. "You three should change into your robes, I expect we'll be be arriving soon," and then she left.
Rosalyn took her robes with her and ran out of the compartment, she said. "Hermione!" said girl turned round.
"Rosalyn?"
"That was pretty great magic you did there for a first year," Rosalyn said, Hermione smiled.
"I'm sure you'll be just as great," she said.
"That spell was a prank you know, two of my older brothers set it up, they're great pranksters. Anyway, Ron still doesn't suspect anything."
Hermione giggled and said. "You should change, but let's continue this later?"
Rosalyn laughed and said goodbye to Hermione, she headed towards the toilets.
Once she was changed, she went back through the train to find Hermione. She eventually found her sitting alone in a train compartment, and went in. Hermione smiled as she sat down, and their conversation started when she spoke.
"So do you know all about magic? I'm muggle born you see, so I didn't know until I got my letter."
"Oh, I was brought up by Ron's family, the one you met earlier. He has five older brothers and one younger sister, and me, I've been with the Weasley's since-"
"Since You-Know-Who tried to kill you and Harry."
"How did you know about that?" Rosalyn was genuinely curious, "I mean, wizarding families know us, but if you're muggle born-"
"Oh, you're in some of the books I've read, Harry is more highlighted, but you're still in them."
Rosalyn understood, and asked. "How much reading do you do?"
"Oh, quite a lot," Hermione said. "I love reading, don't you?"
"I guess," was all Rosalyn said, but she clearly didn't like reading as much as Hermione.
The two girls talked and became fast friends, and soon enough the train stopped. Rosalyn and Hermione linked arms and departed it. Rosie looked for Harry and Ron in the crowd but didn't see them, she guessed she would find them later.
She heard a voice. "Firs' years over here! Firs' years with me!"
Rosalyn and Hermione both gasped as they saw a huge man (they presumed he was a giant), shouting these commands.
They heard a voice say. "Hi Hagrid," Rosalyn realised it was Harry, and she and Hermione rushed through the crowd towards him.
When they got there, Harry and Ron were staring up at Hagrid, as he was called, and he was shouting, "Firs' years, follow me!"
All the first years followed him through some trees and onto a kind of beach beside the black lake that had a fleet of little boats on it.
"No more'n four teh a boat!" Hagrid yelled.
Rosalyn smiled apologetically at her brother as she, Hermione, Neville and another boy she didn't know piled into a boat. She saw Harry and Ron go into a boat with two other boys as well, and waved to them as she and Hermione gasped at the view on the lake.
"FORWARD!" Hagrid yelled and the boats pulled off the shore and started to move across the lake. Rosalyn looked at the view as Hagrid said. "You'll get your firs' sight o' Hogwarts in a sec, just keep on comin'..."
True to his word, the boats suddenly turned, and-
She got her first sight of her school.
It was beautiful, a castle with loads of little turrets and towers, fire torches flaming around the walls, and an amazing reflection on the lake. Rosalyn couldn't believe how lucky she was. She got to be here for the next seven years!
She heard many gasps from the students in her boat and out. She couldn't blame them, the view was amazing.
Soon enough, the boats stopped at a little harbour and the first years got out. Rosalyn left Hermione for a second as she knew her and Ron weren't going to get on and went to him and Harry who were getting out on the other side of the harbour.
When she got there, she said. "Excited?"
"Not really, remember when Fred and George said we had to do some sort of initiation?"
Rosalyn rolled her eyes at Ron, exasperated. "That was a joke, you know, Ron?"
Ron's eyes suddenly filled with understanding and his ears went red. "Oh yeah, I knew that, I was just checking if you did."
Rosalyn laughed. "Whatever helps you sleep at night." She then asked Harry the same question.
"I feel great, as long as we don't have to do magic soon," he said nervously.
Rosalyn laughed and said. "We won't have to, half the people here will probably be muggle born or incompetent anyway." He smiled at her, he had just met her but he already loved her like a brother would a sister. And she vise versa.
As Rosie went back to Hermione, Hagrid said. "Right, jus' up here..."
They clambered up a path and went through some huge black iron gates, walked across some grass that was cut to perfection and eventually reached some huge oak doors. Hagrid knocked on them, and they opened almost at once. A woman that had emerald robes, a pointed hat and lips pressed together appeared. Hagrid addressed her, and Rosalyn was pretty sure of who she was.
"The firs' years, Professor McGonagall."
The Professor said. "Thank you Hagrid, I will take them from here," Hagrid then left and McGonagall quickly rushed the first years inside. Rosalyn and Harry came inside together and they smiled at each other. Ron quickly ruined the moment though.
"Harry! I was looking for you!"
Rosalyn sighed heavily at him as Hermione laughed slightly. She had seen the twins and practically knew something would happen.
Anyway, once they were in the entrance hall, which was beautiful, and huge, they were all ushered into a side room off it. It was considerably smaller and all the First years were in it. McGonagall took charge, however.
"Attention!" At once everything went quiet, McGonagall cleared her throat and continued. "Welcome to Hogwarts, first years, I'm Professor McGonagall. I hope this will be a good home for you for the next several years. In a few moments, you will be sorted into your houses, there are Ravenclaw, Slytherin, Hufflepuff and Gryffindor. Your house will be like a family, you will earn points for it, points will be taken away for bad behaviour, and it might show a bit about your personality as well."
Rosalyn and the other first years listened intently. McGonagall said. "I must see if they're ready for us, if you would, please wait here."
Once she had left, a voice took over the quiet room.
"So it's true, what they were saying on the train, Harry Potter has come to Hogwarts."
A boy with blonde, almost white, hair and a sick smirk on his face had spoken, he had two boys behind him that Rosalyn thought resembled bodybuilders, but not good ones. Harry was just staring at the boy, and he seemed to get the message, even if it wasn't the right one.
"This is Crabbe and Goyle," he said, indicating to the boys behind him. "And I'm Malfoy, Draco Malfoy."
Ron snorted behind Harry and Rosalyn felt like doing the same. Draco's head turned at the snort and he said to Ron. "Think my name's funny? Well, yours definitely is. Red hair, hand me downs all over and not enough money to live on? You must be a Weasley."
Ron instantly looked down in embarrassment and that and what Draco had just said made Rosie so angry, but he was speaking again.
"You'll soon find out that some wizarding families are better than others, better influence, better reputation Potter, and I can help you with that."
He extended his hand to Harry, but before Harry could tell Draco how they would never be friends, Rosalyn stepped in. Draco was confused.
"Who are you?"
"Rosalyn Potter," Rosie answered, fire burning in her eyes. "Just called to say that if you're going to insult someone, make sure it doesn't apply to you first. I can't see you being much better than Ron! A cocky, annoying personality, and two boys you call friends when they're more like henchmen, plus, a family that was cosy with Voldemort, that's not good is it?" Many people gasped when she said the name and Draco looked just as angry as she had been.
To finish it off, she slapped Draco's extended hand hard before he could withdraw it.
She was getting many angry and admiring looks as she turned to Harry and Ron, who were both smiling. Malfoy, meanwhile, was furious. No one cheeked him that way.
No one except the brave redhead who had just gallantly done just that.
"Amazing, Rosie!" Ron said quietly, when Rosalyn regrouped.
"He really offended you, and I couldn't have that could I?"
Hermione was looking slightly flushed when Rosalyn turned to her, she said. "That was brave, what you did."
"Thanks," Rosie smiled. "I just... stand up for people, I guess."
Hermione grinned.
"Plus, Malfoy totally deserved it! Did you see the look on his fat ferret face...."
Rosalyn had to say this quickly because McGonagall had returned. She looked at the first years with a slight smile on her face.
As if she had heard every word.
But that wasn't what she concentrated on right now. All she was focused on was her two words.
"They're ready."
