BORING LESSONS

It was a dark day. Raindrops raced down the old, rusted windows, each trying to outpace the other. The wind howled through the long hallways of the castle, which many considered a school, producing a low, eerie whistle. Inside the classrooms, the soft light created a warm, cozy atmosphere.
Albus Dumbledore stood at the front of the classroom, teaching Defense Against the Dark Arts. In the third row, a girl sat with her brows furrowed, furiously scribbling in her notebook, completely ignoring her father's words.
Beside her sat a boy with light brown hair, his gaze drifting to the birds struggling against the storm outside. Occasionally, his eyes flickered over to the brunette girl beside him, his curiosity piqued by the drawings in her notebook. But every time he tried to sneak a glimpse, her arm blocked his view.
The teacher at the front of the room seemed to notice his daughter wasn't paying attention. He glanced at her for a moment, still speaking, before deciding to address it.
"Davina, I'm sure it's quite hard hearing your father's voice all day, but if you're not listening, at least make it look like you're paying attention," he said, managing a slight smile.
The young brunette, Davina, slowly looked up from her sketches, noticing that everyone in the room was watching her with amused expressions. She blushed instantly and gave a small smile toward her father.
Quiet laughter echoed from the back of the class as she hesitated, trying to find the right words, before muttering a soft "I'm sorry." Her father smiled kindly at her, then turned back to the board, resuming his lesson.
Davina felt a gentle tap on her arm and looked up into Newt's concerned green eyes. "Y-You're okay?" he asked in a hushed voice. He was worried; she seemed like she hadn't gotten a proper night's sleep in ages.
"Sure..." she whispered back, though her eyes told a different story. Seeing the continued concern in Newt's gaze, she turned fully to face him. Newt always had trouble making eye contact when he spoke to someone, and now he was avoiding her eyes, focusing on anything but her.
"Really, Newt. I'm fine. It's nothing you need to worry about." She offered him a reassuring smile before turning her attention back to her father. But Newt continued to study her from the corner of his eye.
He had always thought Davina was beautiful. Her wavy brunette hair was pulled into a high ponytail, though some stray strands escaped, making her look even more charming.
Her button nose and freckles rounded out her features perfectly, but it was her eyes that captivated him the most. At first glance, they appeared green, but Newt had noticed the subtle flecks of brown that danced in the light.
Newt's gaze broke when the bell rang, signaling the end of Dumbledore's lesson. The classroom quickly emptied, and soon it was just the two Dumbledores left. Davina was already packing her bag when her father called out to her.
"Davina, do you mind staying behind for a moment?" Albus asked, raising an eyebrow.
Newt looked at her with a questioning expression, but she simply smiled and gave him a small nod. "Go ahead, I'll find you later," she said softly.
The last few students filed out of the room, leaving only the two Dumbledores. Davina would be lying if she said she wasn't nervous, but the calm expression on her father's face assured her that whatever was coming, it was nothing to fear.
He met her gaze and asked gently, "Would you care to share where your mind was today during the lesson?"
Davina shifted uncomfortably, avoiding his gaze. Her father had always been perceptive, and it was clear that something was troubling her. She fidgeted with the rings on her fingers, a habit she had developed over the years.
Albus watched her for a moment before speaking again. "Can I see them?" he asked quietly.
"See what?" Davina asked, confused.
"Your sketches. They often help me understand what's going on in your mind," he said patiently.
With a hesitant sigh, Davina retrieved her sketchbook from her bag and handed it to her father. He took it gently, his eyes scanning the drawings with slow deliberation, taking in every detail. Davina continued to fidget with her hands, gathering the courage to speak.
"It's... I've been dreaming about it every night," she whispered.
On the page in front of them, a girl sat with her head in her hands, surrounded by dark, shadowy tendrils that seemed to swallow her whole.
"The girl... is that you?" Albus asked softly.
Davina nodded, her expression distant. "I don't know why, but this dream keeps haunting me. I'm always alone, and then there's a quiet voice. It whispers..." Her voice faltered as she tried to find the words.
"What does it whisper?" her father asked, his brow furrowing in concern.
"It says to come... and find it."

"Newt, wait up!" Davina called out through the almost empty hallway. The boy turned around, a small smile tugging at his lips when he saw the familiar brunette.
"I'm sorry for making you wait," she rambled, as the two continued their way toward the Great Hall.
"No, it's fine. He wasn't angry at you, was he?" Newt stuttered.
"No, of course not. Like I said, don't worry so much. If you worry, it just means you suffer twice," she said, flashing him a bright smile as she noticed his confused expression.
"Where did you get that from?" he asked, referring to her quote.
Davina chuckled softly at his question and shook her head. "Not everything I say is a quote from a book, you know?"
Before Newt could respond, a certain blonde girl interrupted them.
"Davina, it took you ages to get here. Come on, sit with us," she called, motioning for her friend to join her. Davina smiled, recalling their first encounter on the train.

Young Davina had been sitting alone in one of the train compartments, her nose buried in one of her favorite books, when a soft knock on the door pulled her out of her trance. Slowly, the petite girl looked up to find a tall blonde girl standing in the doorway, beaming at her.
"Hello! All the other compartments are full. Do you mind if I sit here?" the blonde girl asked, waiting for Davina to respond.
Unsure at first, Davina hesitated, then murmured, "Sure, I don't mind," and moved her bag from the seat beside her.
She watched the girl carefully as she settled in, then their eyes met. The blonde girl smiled and said, "You know, you could just ask if you want to know something about me."
Taken aback, Davina merely shook her head and returned to her book. But the blonde wasn't deterred.
"I'm Elisabeth Grimsley, but you can call me Lizzie," she said brightly.
After a moment of awkward silence, Davina, still unsure how to respond, stuttered out, "I'm Davina Dumbledore." She shook Lizzie's hand carefully.
"Well, it's nice to meet you, Davina," Lizzie said with a warm smile. "I think we're going to have a great time."

Since then, the two of them had been inseparable. Davina was well-known around the halls of Hogwarts, not just because of her father, but also because she was a kind and approachable person that everyone wanted to be friends with.
Lizzie noticed the hesitation in Davina's eyes as she shot a quick glance at Newt, who seemed nervous about saying something.
"Hello, Scamander," Lizzie acknowledged his presence. The blonde girl still couldn't understand why Davina was friends with Newt Scamander. To her, he was just an awkward, shy guy with an unhealthy obsession for magical creatures.
The only thing the girl and boy in front of her seemed to share was their love for readingโconstantly absorbing information, word by word.
After a few seconds of awkward silence, Lizzie decided to make the decision for Davina. "Scamander can sit with us if he wants," she offered kindly, while Newt's eyes widened in surprise.
He was never asked by anyone else to sit with them, except Davina. She beamed at her friend before taking Newt's hand and pulling him with her.
As they sat down at the large Hufflepuff table, several "Hello's" were thrown their way. Newt sat quietly next to Davina, avoiding eye contact with most of the others.
"Hey, Vina. What took you so long?" Ophelia Silverbrook asked.
"She was held back by her father because she wasn't paying attention in class," Liz rambled before Davina could even open her mouth.
"Davina Dumbledore, not paying attention in class? What a scandal," Julien said sarcastically.
"You know, you two, I'm perfectly capable of speaking for myself," Davina said, giving both of them a stern look.
Newt chuckled nervously beside her, drawing everyone's attention to him. "Scamander, right?" Julien asked skeptically.
Newt shrank back in his seat, looking down at the floor while fiddling with his hands.
"Stop bothering him, Julien," Davina said quietly but firmly. Julien just shrugged and turned his attention back to his food.
"So, Davina, what's your plan for tomorrow afternoon, since our class ends earlier than expected?" Lizzie asked, curious.
Davina glanced at the shy boy sitting next to her, who was already looking at her. "Well, if the weather improves, Newt and I were thinking of going outside," she explained.
Lizzie shot a questioning look at Ophelia, who gave Davina a puzzled stare. "Outside? Like, you're just going on a walk?" Lizzie mocked.
Davina sighed but gave both of them a defensive look. "Yes, outside. Just like taking a walk," she said quietly.
Lizzie laughed a little before smiling at Davina, still mockingly. "That sounds so boring. I thought you'd come with the three of us. Maybe we could do a trip to Hogsmeade," she suggested.
Newt perked up at the mention of Hogsmeade, anxiously waiting for Davina's response, preparing himself for the possibility of being alone tomorrow afternoon.
"That does sound like fun, but I'd rather spend time outside with Newt when the weather's good," Davina said with a smile, thinking about their favorite spot.
Lizzie grumbled but soon returned to her usual bubbly self. "Fine, but next time you're coming, no excuses," she said sternly.
"You're sure?" Newt whispered quietly.
Davina turned to him, smiling brightly. "As sure as I'll ever be."
