BEAMING smiles were worn on the wrestlers who stood on stage after the huge show that had transpired that night. Their dreams were coming to a close reality in a matter of months, a few more shows, one more pay per view, and they'd be an official threat to WWE, not that's what their motive was, though the opposing brand saw it as so.
The dream of being themselves and being appreciated, having independent wrestling be appreciated and showcased across wider audiences. For kids to actually look up to real people and people who genuinely cared for the craft and didn't go to work for a pay cheque. People who wanted to give stories whether it be through a microphone or putting their bodies and lives on the line to make someone smile or be shocked.
Candace stood next to a heaving Kenny Omega, she rubbed his sweaty back comforting as he wiped at the blood from his broken nose. On stage was the couple, Brandi, Cody, Adam Page, The Bucks and Matt's wife Dana.
Kenny held the microphone and smiled looking to his friends, then to the audience, "I'm so proud of everyone, and uh, I should be mad, mad for losing but uh, Moxley . . ." He breathed out earning exited cheers from the audience upon the name itself. "I'm not gonna thank you Chris. I'm gonna thank you, Moxley. Because tonight, this is kinda clever 'cause we're in Vegas, right?" He joked earning smiles from his friends. "You just raised the stakes." He stumbled back handing the microphone to Cody as he began to chug on some water.
"You okay?" Candace asked handing him his water bottle and moving his sweaty hair from his face. Next to her was Adam and Nick.
"I will be." He nodded pressing his lips to her temple.
"This right here, is for everybody who was told they couldn't. Who was told they were less then. None of us are, mediocrity loves company. And that is not us, this is All Elite Wrestling. You are All Elite Wrestling!" Cody exclaimed pointing to the audience who cheered.
"Let me ask you! Let me ask you, where we go next, whether it be Chicago, or Jacksonville, all around the world, will you follow us?" The sold out crowd shouted back, 'yes' to the blonde man. "Then I give you my word. Matt, Nick, Hangman, Brandi, Dana, Candace, Kenny. We will never, ever, ever, let you down! But, we gotta end this thing correctly. Sorry, Kenny broken nose and all . . . You have to tell them goodnight."
The crowd chuckled.
Kenny smiled cleaning up his bloody lip and handing Candace the bottle of water.
"But, guys. You've been loud all night, I need you to get loud as you've never been in your whole life." At those words the crowd began to go wild.
Cody handed Kenny the mic and he began, "You know, we -- we really put our pride on the line to try something new. All of us." He gestured to the group behind him. Candace rested her arms on Adam and Nick's shoulders. "You know we, I mean all of us. Not just us in AEW, I'm sure everyone in the crowd, you put up with some form of ridicule everyday. Not feeling good enough. Or not feeling like we've livd up to our potential or are on the right path." He glanced to the blonde behind him who frowned to herself at his words. The boys next to her rubbed her back gently. "But, today I almost cried three or four times, because I'm so proud of everyone. You can ask Candace." He chuckled nodding to the woman. "I'm so happy, that each and everyone of you are willing to take the chance to come on this very unique journey with us. And even though I should be seeking medical attention right now."
"Yeah." Adam nodded, chuckling.
"I should." Kenny chuckled, "Cody put me on the spot. And uh, so I guess, oh boy, I guess I must bid you." Everyone cheered at the curly haired man. "So, everyone, Las Vegas, and heck around the world now." He nodded pointing to the camera. "Goodbye, smooch, and goodnight back." Everyone said in unison.
ย ย ย ย ย ย CANDACE and Tyson sat back in medical while the rest of their friends and co workers packed up the set. The blonde now stood in an oversized sweater and leggings, as her boyfriend was being tended to by the medical staff.
He needed surgery for his broken nose which was a given.
"You hungry?" Candace asked as she held out a pack of sour patch kids, "Everything was closed so this is all we have until we leave." She said softly as Kenny took one and plopped into his mouth.
"Thank you." He said sweetly, some what nasally due to his nose being wrapped. "The guys packing everything up?"
"Yeah, should be done soon, almost two." She nodded playing with the sleeve of his sweater.
Tyson reached up placing his hand on her cheek and running his thumb beneath her tired eyes. "Tired?" Candace hummed, "And you should be, that match you had was --" He whistled.ย "Insane."
"So, was yours." She added raising a brow at him, "You went through hell and then with Jon." Tyson smiled, wincing at the pain from his nose. "I wanted to go out there but I think it'd be better we keep it professional unlike some . . ." She smirked as Tyson snickered.
"You mean you wouldn't love coming out every single week with me. And having me reference you in every promo?"
"Oh my God, shut up." Candace shoved him only for Tyson to wrap his arms around her and hug her against him. "Unless you're cool with looking like you're my bitch."
"I'm joking, sweetheart. But, I agree. Only to a certain extent." He nodded, "Can't have anyone thinking I'm anyone's bitch."
Candace rolled her eyes. "You stress me out." Tyson chuckled and kissed her forehead. "I love you." She mumbled.
"I love you so much more."

ย ย ย ย ย ย "AND we're here today with Candace Maye." Chris said into the mic earning a wave from the blonde across from him. "How are you? Haven't seen much of you since the accident." He nodded to her brace covered knee.
"I'm good, yeah, it's hard being backstage and watching everyone but I'm working on it." She answered.
"That's good to hear, you never go alone anywhere, we've got a member of the Bullet Club here." Chris nodded to Tyson Smith who swirled in his chair with a bright smile and nodded his head to the camera.
"He's here for moral support." Candace answered reaching over and taping the man's hand before sitting back in her seat.
"That's good. So, I wasn't sure what to start off with, I was thinking maybe you can explain yourself how you got into wrestling -- 'cause believe it or not, not a lot of people know how you got involved with the business. Just that your Kaitlyn's sister, who is back in NXT. And you left because of your ex. Care to elaborate. By the way if you think that about this woman, you're a fucking idiot." He added with a smile at the blonde who smiled thankfully at his words.
"Thank you!" She beamed, "Um, yeah, definitely. Yeah, no, I didn't leave because my ex. A lot of people have been speculating because of that, which is, I mean, yeah it can be seen as a part of it, but for the most part it was multiple things leading up to me not resigning with WWE." She explained, "Hope I don't get in shit for saying their name but, um, haha." They laughed. "I got in the ring when I was like, what, seventeen? But leading up to that, yanno, I was always with my sister at her shows. They were small, and whatever, but I guess I was her little cheerleader. I would do my homework on the road just so I can sit ringside for her matches. I'm surprised I didn't fail high school." She joked.
"Your parents were okay with that?" Chris asked.
"God, no." She shook her head. "They didn't know in the beginning, 'cause they worked nights. So, we'd leave, pretend we were going to the library but in reality we were leaving Houston to go to a venue for Kaitlyn's matches. Right after we'd leave and get home around like seven in the morning. I had about three hours of sleep before going to school. But, I didn't care. I wanted to be there, I loved it, and I knew she'd be big one day."
"Man, that's insane." Chris shook his head, "But, I understand why you did it."
"Yeah, so my first match was in New Japan. It wasn't scheduled officially, I like ran to the production table and I think I asked them to play something from Queen or something, I don't remember." She giggled to herself as they smiled listening intently. "Anyways, I went out there, you can imagine, I got creamed. Nearly broke my neck trying to do a Moonsault. But, in that moment I knew it was what I wanted to do." Candace explained recalling the night like it was yesterday a small smile on her lips.
"Yeah, so after that I went into training, wound up in NXT. I won my first title in the WWE, the NXT Divas Championship. I joined The Shield, and shield broke up, won my first main roster title, my sister left, and I had Seth then career wise they didn't do much with me. Other than promo work, I didn't do much."
"That sounds like a lot of the current Superstars sitting in catering right now there." Chris chimed in earning a nod from Candace.
"I met a lot of people backstage." She admitted, "It's sad."
"Yeah, I can imagine. You go to the biggest company in the world only to sit in the back every week and do nothing." Tyson shook his head with a frown.
"How was your experience personally, backstage. We heard from Jon, and he -- he didn't hold back." Chris chuckled, "Was yours better, worse?"
Candace let out a sigh, "That's right you didn't know what went on in the women's locker room." She nodded, "Well, um, it wasn't the worst? I mean they gave me a platform and I made my name on it, or whatever. But, to be honest backstage wasn't the greatest, things changed later when the girls came up from NXT but before that it was honestly a shit show."
Chris rose his brows, "Really? What happened? Cat fights, drama?"
"No, other than it being like, I don't know if you've watched Mean Girls but a lot of the girls were in their cliques, even the men. But, that wasn't my issue. The issue was how they treated us . . . I think you already know the type of idle woman they want on TV." She said as the males looked at her in confusion. "People think I left because my ex, when in reality it was things building up on top of others. I'm happy for him and he's amazing in the ring, I'm sure he feels the same about me. Despite the childish jokes we've made . . ." She glanced to Tyson who smirked to himself. "I wish him the best. But that's not why I left."
"We were told no one would want to sleep with us if we didn't have breast implants, a tight ass, blonde hair, caked faces. and -- and that stuck with me, with us." She frowned recalling the nights she would call her sister sobbing about what had occurred that day. "I cried, so much." She admitted with a sheepish smile.
"I'm PuetroโRican, I've got naturally dark hair like my sister." She giggled twirling her blonde waves. "I had to go blonde because they didn't like my brown hair. AJ had to do highlights, my sister went ombrรฉ, and we weren't the only ones. They didn't even try to put us into storylines, I mean Eva Marie was put into a storyline where she had to keep coming up with excuses to not wrestle." She said with a straight face, a look of annoyance on her soft features. "Literally what the fuck?"
"You don't treat women or anyone for that matter like that. when my sister left, and friends, I was alone. And they saw me as a way to get promos across 'cause I'm pretty good at if." She smiled and shrugged to herself, "โand I didn't get in the title picture until Rousey came and even than they chose her over me because . . . I'm not a legacy. Not that I'm complaining, I love my family, my sister, but when it came to the boss man and everyone backstage, I was more of a problem."
"That's fucking sad." Chris shook his head, his nose scrunched in disgust.
"I went blonde for a long time, still am,ย thinking they'd push me, and that's when they were gonna put me with Ronda, instead they chose Charlotte and then Becky took my place and the fans wanted her to win you know the story. It was a lot building up, and I was sick of it. So, I chose to not resign. Brandi texted me after she saw my match and we spoke about what Cody and the guys were up to with ROH and soon All In, and I wanted to join. And I did."
"And your knee was injured during the woman's qualification match. Which you won, but you weren't clear for Double Or Nothing, All Out, and our first shows." Chris added, his blue irises holding pity.
"They said if I continue with how I'm going now, maybe I can come back sooner." Candace explained briefly, "Kenny has been helping me," She nodded to the man next to her who smiled softly, "My sister is helping me."
"That's good to hear, I miss your annoying self backstage." Chris joked earning a playful eye roll from the brunette. "Well, you're going to be there at All Out to watch the women's match and also the show itself since it is in Chicago." Candace nodded, "Would you like to say anything to the locker room or the fans?"
"Yeah, if you're an indie wrestler, and trying to get your name out there, you don't need a multimillion dollar company behind you. Especially one who is picky when it comes to the exterior of the wrestler and not what they can do in the ring. You can make a big name for yourself in Ring Of Honour, New Japan, even a 'T-Shirt company' can turn into something." She quoted Vince McMahon's words, as Tyson snickered, "And if you're a fan of mine who feels betrayed because I left or someone who has left, even Jon, we left for ourselves. You don't know what goes on behind the scenes, and if you don't want to support us that's fine, and if you do, we love you and that means the world to not just me but all of us." She said, "And . . . for the future AEW Women's Champion, watch out." She said with a smirk.
"And that is it, talk to you all next week. All Out is on August 31st, see you there. And again thank you for a sold out venue, and we'll see you officially on October 2nd for the first ever show of AEW. See you all next time, this is Talk Is Jericho."
