Matt- Depression Pt. 3

Look. Myra1Obre requested a part three and I was listening to 'Snow on the Beach' and I got inspired, I promise I'll get to the other requests soon. Pinky swear.

And lsamuelson12 requested some scavenger hunting from Nick and Chris.

This one isn't as sad as the others but I like it to be honest. Plus, humour is my thing. I leave the sad stuff to the experts. (We know who those are)

There are heavy 'Young Royals' references here and whoever knows the show and picks out the reference, marry me. Also, I'm wearing my purple young royals hoodie so yes.

"I vote fluffy socks" Nick brought a pair of hideous socks over to Chris, who was searching through the hospital gift shop for something for Matt.

They had been here for two weeks now, one with Matt asleep, one with Matt awake. As much as Matt being awake was amazing, he was much more peaceful while he was asleep. He couldn't complain while he was half dead.

"Matt would throw those socks at your face if you gave him those" Chris pointed out. "He also has like a million pairs of fluffy socks, why does he need more?" He added.

"Does any of them have ketchup on them?" Nick asked. Chris rolled his eyes, snatched the socks out of Nick's hands and threw them in Nick's face. The cashier laughed as she saw the brothers fighting.

The brothers searched the gift shop a bit more. Then Chris stumbled across the gift of all gifts.

A snow globe with a pug inside it.

"Nick" Chris called Nick over so he could approve of the gift.

Nick walked over and saw the snow globe. "It's perfect"

--

They decided they wanted the snow globe to be a housewarming gift. To say 'Congrats Matt, welcome back to your own house!"

The thing was, Nick and Chris hadn't been home that much since that day. They dropped by a couple of times to get clothes and do a couple of things, but they hadn't faced Matt's area of the house.

They didn't even clean up the blood. Either vampires had come and cleaned it up for them or it was still on the floor. Probably stinks and is stained as well. Great, they can't bleach away the memories the stain is still there.

Like a hoodie with stains, you will always know where that stain came from.

After the gift shop, Nick and Chris went back to Matt's room to talk for a while before going home for the night. Matt's room needed to be raided by the blade police and Nick and Chris were desperate for their beds.Β

"MATT" Chris screamed, walking into the hospital room. There was a muesli bar on the side table. "Oooh, muesli bar. Have u had some?" He then asked. He was surprised he was allowed to eat without the bloody nurse named Julia who watched Matt eat like a hawk.

Β Matt looked at the muesli bar in pure disgust and vomited in his mouth at the thought of even putting food into his body. "I don't like muesli bars. You can have it" A hint of sass hit his voice. Someone was in a grumpy mood.

"Oh put a smile on your face. You're young, free, you're-"

"Stuck in a hospital because you just had to find me before I found happiness" Matt grumbled, cutting off Nick who was giving one of his infamous 'Mother Nick Speeches'

Chris would have rather been humped by Jojo Siwa on an island than hear those words come out of Matt's mouth. He decided to ignore it rather than expand it.

It then got awkward, no one knew what to say. Luckily, nurse Juila thought it would be a great time to come watch Matt eat like that isn't creepy at all.Β

"Matt, guess who's back" Julia sang shaking a cup full of pills and doing jazz hands like that was going to make anything better.Β

"Hopefully my will to live" Matt grumbled. He was not having it today. Sherlock Holmes wasn't needed to figure that out.Β

Nick and Chris couldn't handle it anymore, needing to leave before Matt's bad mood spread to them like COVID-19.Β

Julia rolled her eyes like her suicidal patient didn't just imply he wanted to die even though he was set to leave the hospital tomorrow. The hospital systems in one-shots everyone.Β

"Um, well, Chris and I are gonna go. Love you, Matt, see ya" Nick waved goodbye and Chris did the same before they both left.Β

--

The scenes at the hospital replayed in both their heads like there was a repeat button that they pressed.

They walked into the house and ventured to Matt's area, scared. Why? They weren't going to find his body lying in his blood. Right? He was in the hospital acting like it was his time of the month.Β

"Nick, I can't do it" Chris stepped back, racing back to the kitchen. Nick sighed and pulled Chris back. The bathroom and bedroom doors both were closed but there were a couple of blood stains outside.

"What if we tackle the bedroom first? Get rid of all things that could harm him before we go to the bathroom" Nick suggested.

Chris nodded with clear hesitation.

On any normal day, they'd swing the door open to reveal Matt's room. Normally, Matt would be asleep or reading on his bed, rotting away in the sheets. He might sometimes have the TV on too. That was Matt's normal.

But today wasn't any normal day.

As the door swung open, the room was missing its main source of light even if it was dull. No, Matt.

A tear was trickling down Chris's face and he had no idea why. "Nick" He choked out.

"He's not dead" Nick whispered back, never seeing his brother so broken before.

"But could have been. He was never with us Nick. He faded into the distance, and we didn't notice" Chris cried out, he did this daily for some reason. Nick had no idea about the demons Chris was facing at the moment. Matt wasn't dead, he was still with them.Β

"Chris. Listen to me bub. Matt is kind of OK now. Was he before? No. But that's the harsh truth. So, make sure that never happens again, let's do this. If you can't handle it, go into the living room and go watch something on TikTok or Netflix." Nick instructed.

"He wanted to die Nick. He told us today"Β

That took Nick by surprise. He was kind of hoping that comment didn't have to resurface. "Just. Let's prevent that from happening, please. Now, do you want to do this or not?"

Chris thought for a second and decided to stay. He needed to do this.Β

--

The scavenger hunt for the blades isn't as easy as it sounds. Matt knew how to hide things well.

Under the pillow? Nop.

Under the bed? Nop.

Bluetacked behind a poster? Nup. It would have been a good idea though.

"Wait Chris found them" Nick called Chris over to the closet, which he was digging through like he was a puppy trying to retive its bone.

Chris went over to the chest of draws Matt had for some of his clothes. In his sock drawer were multiple blades hidden in socks, some notes that he didn't want to open and lots of socks that Matt had never worn. He had a separate drawer for fluffy socks cause he was obsessed with them.

His feet got cold easily and it wasn't like he left the house daily.Β Β

Nick grabbed all the blades and put them in a plastic zip-lock bag that magically spawned in his hands.Β

In total, there were about seven in the draw. They also grabbed the pair of scissors that Matt had in the desk drawer, even though they had taken them just before the accident, Matt must have slipped them back in.

"Ready to do the bathroom now? We need to grab the bleach, those fucking face masks cause I refuse to inhale that shit, and everything else. I'll scrub the floors like Cinderella, you need to get his razor and nail scissors and all of that before helping me" Nick said, listing off the things they had to do before Matt could come home.Β

"What if he needs to shave or cut his nails?" Chris asked.Β

"Well, he will do it in front of us. I'm not risking it Chris" Nick replied.Β

Chris nodded then they went to get the stuff to clean the bathroom.

--

"Rock paper scissors shoot. Ah fuck" Nick pouted, seeing he lost to Chris, meaning he had to open the door.Β

The handle was poison in Nick's mind. Like it could kill him, or the memories could. The door creaked open, that ever-present smell of blood filling up Nick's lungs.Β

Unlike the bedroom, Nick and Chris didn't creep around, going straight to work. They could see the outline of Matt's body slightly.Β

"Why does he have so many razors?" Chris questioned, gathering the razors, and then finding the nail clippers.Β

"I don't know. But he has way too much in his body I can tell you that" Nick sighed, wheezing at the sight of blood laying before him. He had scrubbed some of it, it wasn't coming off though. "Chris, it isn't coming off what do I do?"Β

"Why are you even scrubbing the blood, aren't you deathly afraid of it or something?" Chris then remembered Nick's ever-present fear, as he put the last of the sharp shit in the plastic zip-lock bag.Β

"Oh, I'm dying from nerves right now but I will sleep better if I know the smell of blood isn't filling the house" Nick reasoned, taking a deep breath and going back to scrubbing blood off the floor. Housewife Nick is back at it while Matt is on temporary leave.

"How about we just get the bathroom retiled?" Chris suggested.Β

So that's what they were going to do. Matt could use someone else's bathroom, and get him out of his room a bit.

--

The demons were reunited with their leader as soon as Matt entered his house for the first time in two weeks. The reek of bleach could be smelt from the front door. Lucky for Chris and Nick, Matt was in a much better mood today, excited to see other things than monitors, doctors and white.Β

"We have a gift for you" Chris smirked as he raced up the stairs, hoping Matt would race him like they always did. He didn't though. Instead, he walked up the stairs slowly.Β

The gift was neatly wrapped in a small gift box and placed in the middle of the table, awaiting Matt's arrival.Β

"Open it" Nick smiled, putting the medication for Matt away.Β

Matt opened the box gently. It gave Chris time to look at him for the first time without him sleeping or fighting. He was skinner than the word skinny, his bones practically his skin. He looked like a touch could shatter him into little bits. He was wearing a t-shirt since it was stuffy in the car and the scars were visible, the fresh ones angry, the older ones faded but not invisible.Β

"Is that a pug in a snow globe?" Matt exclaimed, tone in his voice. It was refreshing. The smile Matt had on looked real like it had been waiting for its turn in the show. Then Matt started laughing. His giggle made an appearance for the first time since who knows when.Β

"Yep" Chris laughed with Matt, it wasn't even funny. The mood was just contagious.Β

Well, for a little bit anyways.Β

"Thanks, I'm tired, I'm going to go take a nap" Matt then announced, a yawn following. He had been sleeping a lot, so it wasn't anything new.Β

"Can you sleep either on the couch or in one of our beds?" Nick asked without a second thought.Β

"Why. Scared I'm going to do something bad" Matt deadpanned, sick of being treated like a baby. He was siked for dinner tonight.Β

"No. Your bathroom is getting retiled so there is construction there so you're sleeping with one of us for the next week" Nick told Matt, rooting that he would choose Chris's room since he needed a night to himself.Β

"Don't ask how we got a tiler so quick" Chris added.Β

Matt just shrugged.Β

--

Nick
Chris. It's snowing

Chris
Yeah. And

Nick
It's snowing. At the beach

Chris
Ok. Sooooo
Matt's asleep, istg if u r gonna make him drive us to the beach so we can see snow I'll kill u myself.

Nick
Nah. I'll drive. Don't wake him up but put his puffer jacket and other layers on him.
He will freeze in the snow

Chris
Fineeeeee
He's our little icicle

Nick
No.

--

No one has ever been more confused than Matt as he woke up next to Chris in the backseat of his own car at around three am.Β

"Huh, why is Nick driving?" He stuttered, still waking up.Β

"We are going to the beach" Chris informed the half asleep Matt.Β

"What" He slurred.Β

"Just, enjoy it. Also, here is your beanie, you are gonna need it" Chris handed him a beanie.

--

The sound of snow falling on the beach isn't something you hear every day. Since you can't hear it, it's silent. Just like Matt's thoughts as Chris pulled him out of the car and dragged him onto the beach. The cold breeze hit him but he didn't seem to mind. It felt fitting for the moment.

Nick used his phone flashlight to lead them to the sand and then started to film his brothers running around. Well, Chris pulled Matt around until Matt finally got into the mood.Β

Then the smiling happened.Β

The smile was contagious like chickenpox.

It was a sense of freedom only the beach could give.

The sound of the waves crashing softly on the shoreline alongside the snowflakes fluttering onto the sand made the night more magical.

Nick had to take a photo of it. How many times in his life was he going to see this? He decided to treasure it just like he had been treasuring Matt after his dance with death.

Then, after the perfect photo was taken, Nick dropped his phone with his brother's stuff and joined them in making snow angels in the snow-filled sand.

It was perfect. Everything was perfect. It was an unexpected perfect.Β

Matt tugged his beanie to cover more of his face, as he got up and went to go watch the waves crash. The snowflakes fell gently around him like he was in a snow globe.

That was the moment of realisation for Matt. He was a snow globe. It was once perfect, with no cracks. Then something happened, and all of a sudden it broke. It looked unfixable. But with time, and with motivation. He was slowly fixed, with sticky tape. He could easily be broken again unless treated with care. But others didn't need to treat him with care. He did. He had to treat himself like he loved himself.

Which he did. In that moment.

"Matt, watch out" Chris called out, throwing a snowball at his brother. Matt ducked and the snowball fell into the ocean. He then started laughing as he piled up some snow to throw at Chris. The brothers did this for a while until they could see the sand.

Sandballs weren't the same as snowballs. Didn't have the same satisfaction. It was getting later and it was now pitch black, the triplets squinting to see each other. They didn't care.

As the snow fell, the triplet's mood lifted. There was beauty amid the dark. They just searched for it.

Matt was beauty amid the dark.

Chris was beauty amid the dark.

Nick was beauty amid the dark

We are beauty amid the dark.

Just find it that beauty.

The darkness can only hide so much.

I'm putting that on a t-shirt that was the best quote I've ever made.Β

This is the end of the depression series but if you want to see something similarish let me know cause I really enjoyed writing it even though there were tears.

Love you all, remember it always gets better. Takes time though.Β
