The Malhotra family consisted of Mohit Malhotra, his wife Ananya and two daughters, the oldest name Garima and the youngest Nimrat, lived contented in Lucknow.

They were the loyal servants of the tycoon Karan Kundra and to reward them, he gave Mohit a plot of land a few meters away from his mansion and built a house where the family resided while working for them and also operating the family sweet shop.

He also paid for the education of the Malhotra sisters but took a keen interest to Nimrat who was academically gifted over Garima who was a lazy and materialistic.

This together with how Nimrat was always praised for being respectful, hardworking, intelligent and extremely beautiful caused Garima to resent her young sister as all attention was on her.

Garima never let go off any opportunity to humiliate and belittle Nimrat but Nimrat being a strong willed girl never fell for it instead forgave her because she understood Garima was doing because of her own insecurities.

Nimrat by ignoring Garima's taunts and belittlement lived her life free of hate and envy.

The hatred Garima had for Nimrat increased when Shashi and Ajay who were in the air force in Lucknow were assigned by the commander of the air force as bodyguards for Karan after a failed attempt of his life.

The men quickly became friends with the girls as they lived on the same land, Garima immediately had a crush on Ajay but he had his eyes on Nimrat who was equally in love with him.

This hurt Garima seeing the man she likes wanting her sister but she ended bumping into Arvind Malik who showed her with gifts and only had eyes for her.

Shashi who liked Garima was always ignored by her but he never gave up until he found out about the affair between Garima and Arvind Malik who belonged to a wealthy royal family in Lucknow.

This was revealed during a party where Subhadra Malik, the Matricach of the Malik family caught her eldest son Arvind Malik and Garima in the passionate lip lock.

She dragged her to the party where Garima was humiliated and branded as the gold digger and seeing Garima's ruined reputation and his mother's anger, Arvind Malik lied saying her seducing and blackmailed him to buy her stuffs.

But the truth was that they were lovers aand all the expensive clothes and jewellery Garima was wearing were gifts from Arvind but his fear of his mother made him lie.

Due to how materialistic Garima was and she being defensive when she was asked where she got the clothes,money and jewelry, no one believed her and this ruined the reputation of the Malhotra family.

Karan Kundra was the only support of the Malhotra family after the incident and he did all he can to restore their reputation as honest people which worked to some extent but Garima will remain a social outcast and to prevent that, Shashi who was in love with Garima proposed to marry her.

Garima who was broken because of what Arvind did to her and the disgust on her parents,Nimrat and Ajay's face each time they looked at her made her settle for Shashi and she vowed to love him as he was her only supporter.

They moved out to an off base housing units for military personnels  as Mohit and Ananya didn't want Garima anywhere near them.

Shashi one the other hand was always welcomed to their home but he never went in solidarity with Garima being banned and no one held it against him as they knew he was a good man.

For four years she tried but couldn't forget Arvind and seeing her sister happily married to the Ajay triggered her jealousy, inferiority complex and hatred for Nimrat.

Just like Garima, Arvind who was also now married to her mother's best friend's daughter Ratna,couldn't forget his first love but happiness found him after his wife gave birth to their crippled daughter Anjali even though he never loved Ratna, he respected and protected her.

A few years later, Arvind and his wife had another child a son in the form of Arnav and that didn't even make him forget Garima but her stayed loyal to his wife and children.

A few years after Arnav was born, Arvind started his affair Garima after they both found out they were not happy in their marriages.

Garima soon found out she was pregnant and she knew it wasn't Shashi's child but made Shashi believe it was his as Arvind had warned her to abort any child that might come out of their affair before his divorce from his wife but unfortunately for Garima, she was way past the period for an abortion and  decided to pass it off as Shashi's child.

At the same time, Nimrat was also pregnant with her first child after six years of trying and Mohit and Ananya Malhotra were over joyed after finding out they were going to be grandparents and their grandchildren will be born within the same week.

This made them forgive Garima and finally allowed her to come home for the first time in seven years after banning her from stepping a foot in their home.

Unfortunately for them, this won't last long as flash flood caused the breaking of a dam and heavy torrential rains a few months later will destroy their peaceful world.

During their escape from the flash flood, Garima slipped and fell but Mohit and Ananya were able to help her and Nimrat into an underground basement on the property that was once used as storage.

The flood which was now getting more worse swept away Ananya immediately Garima and Nimrat entered and seeing how frightened his daughters were and realising how much water was entering the basement, Mohit smiled at his daughters and shut the door locking them in as the flood pulled him away leaving two devastated pregnant sisters behind.

Nimrat and Garima knew their lives with never be the same again as they knew their parents were now dead and gone.

Due the shock, grief and stress, Nimrat went into labor and after hours of contraction and pushing with the help of Garima, Nimrat delivered her daughter but immediately fell unconscious due to the pain and tiredness.

A frightened Garima pulled herself together and cleaned the baby and her sister up as the basement was filled with everything they will need until they are found.

A day later, Garima also went into labor and after hours alone and scared, she delivered her baby girl but unfortunately for her, the fall she had the day of the flooding caused the ambilcal cord to wrap around her daughter's neck which suffocated her and ended up killing the baby.

Garima cried hysterically and all alone but she saw a golden opportunity in the form of her living niece and replaced her dead daughter with that of her sister's after cleaning her baby up.

A day later, they were rescued by Shashi, Ajay and the military.

Ajay was devastated after finding out about his dead daughter and his in laws but pulled himself together as the family needed him and Shashi was always there to console and support him.

A week later, Nimrat woke up only to be faces with the reality of her dead daughter and the death of her parents and what devastated her the most was that she couldn't say goodbye then as their last rites has already been done.

Nimrat started spiralling into depression but the presence of Payal, love and support from Ajay and Shashi made her bounce back quickly from her depression surprising the doctors in charge of her condition.

Three years later, their miracle baby Khushi was born after Nimrat was told she couldn't have anymore children due to her scarred womb but she beat the odds and delivered a healthy baby whom they name Khushi.

For eight years, the family lived happily having moved from the Kundra land and building their own family home in the middle of Lucknow and a thriving sweetshop owned by Shashi and Ajay in honor of their late in laws who were experts at making sweets and taught them the recipes for the best sweet making and it techniques.

Garima after many years had finally fallen in love with Shashi after seeing how supportive, caring and loving he was to her and she regretted the affair she had with Arvind after she realized she didn't try hard enough to love Shashi and to make up for it, she dedicated her life loving and caring for Shashi but she lived with the guilt of stealing her sister's baby and to make up for that too, she allowed her sister raise Payal more than she did as her mother.

All that was about to come to an end when Ajay and Nimrat who were in charge the mails discovered the letter from Arvind to Garima and this not only put them on high alert but also angered them.

They hid it and later opened it together when they were alone and was shocked finding out it content.

Arvind had wrote to Garima apologizing for abandoning her and wanting them to continue their affair behind the families back.

This infuriated them as they thought the affair was when they were young and together they decided to confront and warn Arvind to stay away from Garima and their family.

They left to confront Arvind in Sheesh Mahal which scared Arvind who knew if he was discovered, he would be disinherited by his mother who had warned she will disinherit him if he causes any scandal that will affect the family reputation.

Unknown to him, Anant who has been wanting an opportunity to make his brother get disinherit found this as the perfect opportunity to get what he wants so he and his men chased after Ajay and Nimrat and in their attempt to escape them, Ajay drove on high speed.

Anant was pissed seeing this as he was loosing the opportunity to drag them back to Sheesh Mahal to expose his brother.

He decided to cut them off the road but unfortunately for him, Ajay lost control when his car hit theirs and they drove off the road into a ravine.

Anant panicked and slide down the ravine to find the couple covered in blood.

Nimrat who was slightly conscious heard Anant say if they died, Arvind and his secret will never be discovered again.

Anant run back to his car and brought out petrol and poured it all over the car and set it on fire.

He run out of there into his car and drove away with his men.

The smoke woke Nimrat up and she panicked seeing the car on fire.

She turned and found the couple she and Ajay had given a ride to already dead behind them which Anant didn't see.

She managed to pull Ajay out of the burning car away from the wreckage and flame ignoring the painful sensation of the burns on her arms and face as she pulled her husband away.

She fell on him exhausted and in pain and the last thing she heard was a loud explosion  before losing consciousness.

Garima and Shashi who were worried not knowing what happened to Ajay and Nimrat after three days of not hearing anything from them decided to go to the police station to report them missing only for them to be visited by the police who revealed someone had run them off the road and set their car on fire and their charred remains were found in the vehicle.

Garima and Shashi were devastated hearing the death of Ajay and Nimrat and even more worsen when it was revealed they were killed.

The police suspecting someone was after them immediately advised the family to disappear from society until the culprit were caught.

Three weeks later, Nimrat woke up in the hospital to find her face disfigured and her husband in medically induced coma.

She and Ajay had been saved by some hunters who had them admitted to another town's hospital.

Nimrat after gaining some strengh called their home but no one answered so she call her godfather Karan Kundra who had been residing in Dubai for medical reasons and he immediately arrived a few days later and he was devastated seeing his goddaughter and her husband and her granddaughter, Shashi and Garima disappeared into thin air.

He moved Nimrat and Ajay to the states for for medical treatment while he stayed to find the family but couldn't as no one knew where they were.

Reason he couldn't find them was because they officers in charge had retired and the documents needed to fond them was either lost due to fire or rain.

The next thirteen years, Nimrat had plastic surgery, Karan Kundra died leaving all his properties and companies to Nimrat. She adopted the son of her secretary who died in an accident and treated him like her son but she never stopped searching for her family until two years ago when one of detective found out Shashi and the family had returned to Lucknow three years ago and Nimrat was overjoyed to meet her family but she couldn't as a scandal had caused her daughter and family to move to Delhi which was another challenge to find them.

Unfortunately when she found her six months later, she was married to Arnav and she had a background check done on Arnav and that's how she discovered his relation with the Maliks and all that had happened to Khushi because of Arnav.

She also found out the truth about her accident after thorough investigation and this fuelled her hatred for her sister, Arnav and his family and vowed to destroy him and take Khushi away from Arnav and punish Garima.
