iii. peter and panda.

LIGHTNING flashes through the windows, lighting up the pitch black room, percy and pandora lay in two separate beds, figures stands over them, arms folded.

"Where are we?" Percy asked.

"You drool when you sleep."

Pandora brows furrowed. "Huh?" Their vision fade to black.

In the daytime, percy and pandora stirs in bed, they turn their heads to grover who sits in between them, pandora sighed and rubbed her eyes. "It's okay. You're safe."

Percy shifts his gaze, grover turns to a nearby table, on it equipment surrounds the minotaur's huge horns.

"It really happened." Percy said so quietly, pandora almost didn't hear him, "Well, it's a big deal to kill a monster like that. So, i wanted everyone to know—" Pandora shook her head and stared at the ceiling. "Did you see it? Did you see what happened to our mom? they're both gone."

"I did." Grover hangs his head low, "I'm sorry..." Percy turns away.

pandora sitting up in her bed and throwing the covers off of her, "For..everything. My job was to protect you, to get you here safely. Maybe if i'd told you the truth a little sooner, your mom would still be here—" Pandora threw her head back.

"Please..." Percy wipes his eye, "stop." Pandora stood up after putting her shoes on, she ignored grover's calls and went outside.

She scanned her surroundings, she looked at the nearby lake with amazement, she thought it was the prettiest thing she'd ever seen.

Percy interrupted her thoughts by suddenly dragging her along into a ornate conservatory, inside, a man in sunglasses sits at a small table.

The two stepped closer, cocking their heads, motionless, the man lounges, holding a can, an empty wheelchair next to him. "Excuse me? We're Percy and Pandora Jackson, we're new here."

"Peter and Panda Johnson is here!" He yelled out, not looking at them. "Kay' that isn't...really our names." The girl frowned.

"I guess we're looking for the office? Or whoever's in charge, so..." Grover rushes in. "Wait, wait. Wait, wait, wait. Percy, dory, um, Mr. D, camp director. Mr. D, this is, uh. Percy and Pandora Jackson."

"Yeah, grover, i heard them the first time." Pandora furrowed her brow, "Yeah. But did you?" Grover pulled her and percy aside. "You really don't wanna start with this guy."

"He's starting with us." Percy gestures to Mr. D who sipped on his diet coke, "Percy, dory, The d is for dionysus. That's dionysus." Percy and pandora looked at him.

"What do you mean, dionysus? The— Like, the god, dionysus?" Grover nodded. "Yes."

"No way." Percy voiced, "Yes." Pandora looked back at dionysus, "Him? He is a god? This guy right here? Dionysus? No, you're lying." Grover shook his head.

Percy and Pandora turned back to him.

No longer wearing his shades, the god glares at the two unclaimed children, "Excuse me, your highness?" Percy said, pandora looking at him with raised eyebrows. "Oh."

Percy blinks his eyes and works his mouth. "I think our dads may be around here somewhere. We don't know how to ask for them. We don't—we don't even know their names. But i think we should see them. I just.. I think we really need that right now. Can you help us?"

Dionysus sits up and leans forward, "Actually..." He nods with a warm smile. "I think i can. Son."

"Dad?" Pandora snorted, "Yes, peter." The girl shook her head, "You can't even say his name right." The god glared at pandora and she looked away. "It's percy."

"Exactly. Now, before we get to know each other, there's something very important i want you to do for me, okay?" Percy nodded. "In the galley, there is a bottle of 1985 château haut-brion. Will you go fetch that for me?"

"Is that really all you have to say to me?" Percy asked, pandora snorted again, "Some dad you are, huh." She and the god made eye contact and glared at each other.

"Hey, um, Mr. D, even if percy was—" Dionysus held up his finger, not daring to break his eye contact. "Uh, uh, uh, bup! Grover, quiet, please." pandora huffed as she was the first to break.

Dionysus smiled smugly, "This is a nice moment, don't ruin it." He glanced at grover before pointing outside.

"The galley is right down that path. Grab that bottle and i'll talk to you about whatever you want. You know, uh..." He waves a hand. "You, uh... me, who cares?"

"I want to go home." Pandora muttered as percy turns to grover who purses his lips and drops his head. Percy scoffed softly and began to walk out the door.

He froze then tapped pandora rapidly, the girl looked up and her eyes widen at the sight of Mr. Brunner. Percy and pandora looked at each other then back to the waist of Mr. Brunner. "Wow. Now, our teacher has a body of a horse." She muttered and percy hit her softly.

"Percy. Pandora." The two looked up at him. "Mr. Brunner?" Grover stepped forward. "Uh, Mr. Brunner's real name is Chiron. Camp activities director, immortal trainer of heroes, he is —"

"Grover, thank you. I'll take it from here." The satyr nodded. "Oh, percy, pandora, this must be a lot for you to process."

"Oh, most definitely. Y'know, still getting used to the fact that our best friend is a goat from the waist down, — and— now our teacher is.. a horse." She released a breath.

"Now i really want to go home." Pandora said, noticing how crazy this was, she wanted to go home, and talk with percy until their mom came into the room and told them to go to bed.

"And my father won't talk to me unless i get him a drink. Well, this all seems totally normal." Chiron looked at Dionysus and back at percy.

"Oh, no, no, no. No. Mr. D is not your father." Their heads turned to look at dionysus in sync. "I could be."

"No, you cannot." The god glared at the girl, somehow hearing her whisper, the girl quickly averted her eyes somewhere else. "Yes, but are you?"

"Why must you ruin everything?" He questioned.

"Mr. D knows that zeus has forbidden him from consuming alcohol. And that demigods are able to do things for gods that gods are forbidden to do for themselves. Mr. D was taking advantage of that. Hmm?" Percy shoots Dionysus a look who shrugged.

"Eh."

"Percy..Pandora...walk with me, and we'll start again. Hm?" The two look at each other before stepping out, grover goes to follow them. "Uh, grover, please give us a moment."

"This is a sacred valley, percy, pandora. Humans can't see it." Chiron said, as other kids in orange t-shirts walk past. "Monsters can't enter it." pandora looked at a statue then at a lightning bolt banner. "The world can't touch it."

Percy eyes a brown haired boy who takes pictures of the strawberry field. "Great care was taken to bring you here. And great sacrifice." They enter a forest.

"So, there's something we gotta tell you. We lost your pen-sword thingys. Hopefully, that wasn't your only one." Percy looked up at chiron. "Check your pockets."

"No, we've — we lost it the other night, on the hill." The boy looked down, "Check your pockets." The two furrowed their brows and looked at each other.

They reach into their pockets and pulls out a pen and a ring, "Unless you surrender it, it will always find its way back to you." Pandora looked at chiron in confusion.

"But why is it a ring?" She asked, "It's original form is a ring." She glanced down at the silver ring, which had a lightning bolt symbol carved into it. She slid it on her finger and smiled slightly. "Magical objects don't obey the physical laws of the ordinary world. Your pen, your ring, my wheelchair, they're all a part of your father's world, as are you now."

Percy and pandora look at each other for a moment before looking back up at the centaur, He smiled slightly before nodding. "I have something to show you."

Chiron trots away and they both follow. They enter a woodland clearing, fires raise from braziers which lines various paths. "Twelve cabins, for twelve olympian gods."

"Each cabin is home to the children that god claimed." pandora read the names off the sign post.

"Great. Which one are we?" The two demigod heads turned in sync to look at chiron. Chiron creases his brow, "You haven't been claimed, percy, pandora."

The girl frowned. "Well, when do we get claimed..?"

"Well, the gods reveal their design in their own time, not before. Your fathers might claim you tomorrow, it might be next week, it might be —"

"Never." Pandora sighed. Percy tucks his lip and heaves his chest. "Even now, they still want nothing to do with us." He spoke the words that pandora was thinking in her head.

"What are we even doing here? There's no place for us here."

"There is a place for you. Here..." He gestures to one of the tall cabins to the left, "Hermes, god of travelers. His cabin is home to both his own children and, and the unclaimed." Chiron said as they walk to the cabin.

They enter the cabin and pandora looked around.

"Everyone. Everyone." Percy and pandora's eyes widened and they quickly tried to stop him from getting everyone's attention. "Wait — wait a minute."

"Everyone..." He claps and the cabin quieted down, percy and pandora looked at each other before trying to hide behind each other. "Your attention, please. This is Percy and Pandora Jackson. I trust you will see to whatever they need."

The two raise their hands to wave with their eyes on their shoes. The other children turn away and went back to their business, "I know you feel powerless, but you're not. All will reveal itself in time." Percy stares at the ground as chiron clops out of the hall.

The two shared a look before slowly stepping deeper into the cabin, they pass by bunks and a group of kids sitting next to the fire pit. They kneel down besides their stuff that was sitting on two bed rolls.

Percy reaches into his bag and pulled out both of bags candies that their mom gifted them, pandora took the bag from her brother and sat down completely. "I miss them, perce."

Percy looked at her, and went to open his mouth but stopped when he heard another camper. "Those are the kids. I think they're the ones who killed the minotaur."

They both glance over to a group of older boys, a girl probably their age standing next to the older boy who had a scar from the bottom of his eye, going down to his chin.

The two walked over slowly, percy stands to face them with his sister following in suit. "Look if you want to give us a hard time, just do it tomorrow. We can't do anymore today."

The girl furrowed her brow, "Heard what happened to you on the hill. And i just — we're really sorry." Percy and pandora looked down, avoiding their gaze.

"We know what you're going through. Believe me." The boy spoke this time, "I'm luke and this is my little sister, leah." They extend their hands to percy and pandora.

The two look at each other, hesitating before they shake leah and luke's hands. "Percy and Pandora." Percy smiles thinly.

Percy and Pandora sit in front of a fire, They both clutch sand in their hands before they let it fall back onto the ground.

They both turn to see a light in the distance, Percy stands, dragging his sister with him, "Ah, they left you here, left you with nothing." The voice sighs knowingly.

"I know how you feel. You want what's been taken from you. You want justice." Percy and Pandora looked behind them as the ground shook and the sand fell into a dark pit. They shout when they began to fall into the pit.

Percy and Pandora jolt awake with a gasp, they glance around the cabin as luke stands up, "You okay?" He questioned.

"Super." Leah grinned at the response. "We all have them, you know." Luke clicked his tongue, "Intense, recurring nightmares. That's normal here." Percy and Pandora stand up from their bed rolls.

"And the daydreams, and the ADHD, and dyslexia." Pandora sighed, "Wonderful." They both move to stand in front of luke and leah. "Demigods just process reality differently than humans do."

Percy and Pandora nodded as the latter stared at the necklaces that were around luke and leah's neck, 5 different painted beads on it, which seemed to represent something.

"For the first time in your life, you're just like everybody else." Luke finished.

"It doesn't feel that way though... we still feel — different." Pandora stated, her head hanging low as she tapped her fingers against each other in a slow rhythm.

The two castellan siblings looked at percy and pandora in understanding. Percy pursed his lips and stared at the two in front of him and pandora. "So are you also—" He paused. "Do yo not know who your—"

"Are we.. unclaimed? No, hermes is our father." Luke shrugged, "That doesn't matter, we're all on the same team here." Percy and Pandora looked at each other before shaking their heads. "Why is that okay?"

"Why do they get to bring us here to just ignore some of us?" Pandora questioned, "Spend too much time trying to figure out why the gods do whatever it is they do, you'll drive yourself crazy." The girl furrowed her brow as she listened.

"Sooner you stop worrying about that, the sooner you can enjoy what this place actually does offer."

"And what's that?" The castellan siblings smirked at each other before turning toward pandora and percy.

"Glory."

The four head outside with luke's friends trailing behind, "Demigods have always fought for glory. They used to call it kleos." Leah explained. "It's like this stuff that attaches itself to your name."

"Makes it bigger, scarier, more important." Luke added. "People listen closer when you talk, they work harder to be your friend and they think twice about messing with you."

Percy and Pandora shared a look before a girl with black curly hair bumps into the latter, "Hey!" She exclaimed as she bumped into leah, the girl looks at pandora and pushes her onto the ground.

"Woah!"

"Hey. Knock it off, clarisse. It's like their first day, come on." A girl who was standing besides the girl now known as clarisse, helps pandora off the ground with the help off percy. "Sorry." She said, apologizing for clarisse's behavior.

"Wait, so these are the kids who killed the minotaur. Is that right?" She looked at the two who glanced off to the side at clarisse's friend. "Yeah?"

"I'll bet. Look, you want attention around here, dummy? You better be ready for it when it comes." Clarisse lunges at them, the two flinch back as she laughed and walked off with her friends.

"Sorry, about clarisse. Welcome to camp." The other girl smiled at them and walked off, trailing behind clarisse.

"She's so hot." Pandora mumbled, staring after clarisse with a frown, "You serious?" Percy looked at her.

"What? i have a thing for evil women." Percy rolled his eyes. "Well, she seems nice." He smiled thinly, "Ares kids. They come by it honestly." Luke looked at them.

"Yeah, it amazes me how clarisse is best friends with iris — she's so nice and fun while clarisse is.." Leah trailed off. "Mean and hot?"

Luke and leah raised their brow at the girl, "Why don't they mess with you?" Percy placed his hand over his sister's mouth. "They know better."

"Luke and leah's the strongest swordsmen at camp. But — personally.. leah's better." The castellan girl smirked smugly at her brother and gave chris a high-five.

"So, they leave you alone because 'glory?'" Percy asked.

Luke nods. "So if we get glory, clarisse wouldn't mess with us either?"

"Exactly."

"And people think we're big deals?" He added, looking at the ground, "Well, sorta, but—" Luke thought about and shrugged. "And our dads got no choice but to claim us."

"You can't force the gods to do anything." Leah stated.

"Well, yeah, but... it would make it harder for them to pretend we don't exist, right?" Pandora looked at percy, who nodded and they stared at the two castellans. "Maybe."

"Well, great. where do we start?"

In a field, a girl shoots a flaming arrow, the arrow strikes at the bullseye. The girl smiles at percy, luke, leah and pandora.

"A good source of glory are feats of skill. So, we gotta figure out what you're good at." Luke handed the bow to pandora who shook her head, he then handed it to percy who took it.

"I wanna be very clear about this, i've never done anything like this before, and it looks super dangerous." He squinted his eyes as luke shrugged.

"And you two never killed a minotaur before either, 'till you did."

"Okay, but like, we were high.. on adrenaline, so..." Percy nodded in agreement at his sister's words then proceeded to draw an arrow from his quiver and places it on the bow string.

The girl who shot the arrow offers percy a lighter who declined with a shake of his head, "I wouldn't." Percy steps forward and aims at the target. Wincing, he struggles to draw the bow.

He releases the arrow, launching it sideways. People duck quickly as pandora's eyes widened. "Should i try again?"

"No!" They all exclaim.

Now, in a forge, a blacksmith hammers red hot glowing metal, "Come on." pandora and percy wear goggles and in apron, leah and luke push them forward.

The blacksmith hands over the hammer and tongs to pandora, the girl strikes the heated metal, then hits it again, the metal bounces into a stack of cloth.

Flames erupt from the bundle. Percy pulls pandora away as she stared at the fire.

"Is there a greek god of disappointment? Maybe someone should ask him if he's missing two kids." Percy said as they eat in an open circular structure.

"Oizys...but she's a goddess. And her whole thing isn't really disappointment, it's more like — failure." Percy and pandora furrow their brows and look at each other.

"But is she hot though..?" All heads turn to look at the girl, "Right, sorry." She frowned before looking down at her food.

Luke gave chris the side-eye before leaning in, "We're gonna find the things that you're good at. I know it." He smiled as his sister nodded in agreement.

Percy and pandora avert their gaze toward the other children as they started to get up after hearing a bell chime in the distance. "Our turn." Chris, luke and leah stand.

"Our turn for what?" They asked in sync, "Burnt offerings. The gods like the smell, so it gets their attention before you say a prayer." Pandora and percy look down at their plates. "They like the smell of burnt mac & cheese?"

Leah snorted, "No, they like the smell of you begging on your knees — just kidding, you don't have to get on your knees." Chris chuckled and he and leah walk away with their plates. "You burn what you'll miss the most."

"Then they know you really mean what you're about to say, so they listen." Percy and Pandora stared off as luke walked away, the two shared a look, having the same idea.
