Chapter 1: Art Class

I always liked drawing. And I've had a big fat crush on Veneer for about a year now. So whenever nobody was looking I'll scribble a little doodle of him in my notebook. Or when I'm at home I'll fill a whole page of my sketchbook with just his perfect face. Like, right now, for instance. I was just adding the last few details onto yet another Veneer.

Am I obsessed? Depends, do you mean obsessed with drawing him or obsessed with him?

If you mean the first one, your answer is yes.

As for the second... it's complicated.

I'd just finished my drawing when suddenly, Rick was looking over my shoulder. "What'cha drawin'?" He asks.

"NOTHING!" My arms immediately cover the page. Shit. Why did he have to be the one looking? Of all people it had to be Veneer's boyfriend?

"You surrrrrrre?" He asked.

"Baby, leave the guy alone." A voice said. I turn around and see Veneer.

I watched as my crush sat down and wrapped his arm around Rick's neck, I swear Rick might as well have eaten his face.

I turn my head away awkwardly and closed my sketchbook. The kiss noises were making me feel sick. Like I literally feel like I'm about to throw up. Did they have to do it here? In front of like twenty-five teens? It's like their trying to shove the fact that they were dating down all our throats. Ew.

"Baby, I think-" Veneer was interrupted by Rick smashing their lips together again. Does this dude ever let him breath?

"Class." Miss Leneata was doing a gulf clap and trying to get everyone's attention. "Veneer, Rick, are you done?"

Rick looked up and glared at the teacher, but stopped. Veneer looked almost relieved.

"Anyways." She continued. "As you all know, we have been learning abstract art, and I am going to pair you all up to work on it together. Yes Rick?"

Rick lowered his hand. "Are we going to be choosing our partners?" He asked.

"Sorry no." Miss Leneata said. "I have already chosen them, I did my best not to pair you up with anyone you might have problems with, but people you can collaborate with to make a masterpiece. Now. Here are the pairs. I do not want to hear any complaints, understood? I read off your names and that's the end. And I also will not be switching partners."

I prayed my partner wouldn't be Rick. He was a bitch and I hate having to deal with him in class already. I don't want anymore.

"...Rick and Morty, and Veneer and Ritz." She finished.

My eyes shoot open. Had I heard that right?

People were pretty unhappy with who they were partners with. But all I could think was: Oh my God oh my God oh my God, I'm partners with Veneer! Freaking VENEER! Control yourself Ritz. You cannot make yourself look like an idiot!

I sit there and wait eagerly as class goes on, and eventually finishes. I get up and grab my stuff and begin heading towards the door, when I heard someone call my name.

"HEY! Um, Ritz, right?" I look over my shoulder to see Veneer running towards me.

"Uhhh, ye-yeah." I say, my cheeks turning a bit of a darker shade of purple. Oh my God he's actually talking to me!

"Yeah. So, I kinda figured that since we'll be working on this together, maybe you could come over to my house and we can get started?" He raises his eyebrow cutely. An expression I've drawn plenty of times. Dammit, he's so cute.

"Um, yeah, sure." I say, trying to sound casual.

I didn't.

"Okay, here, lemmy put my address and number in that sketchbook of yours." Before I could open it and flip to a clean page myself, he grabs it and starts flipping through it, starting from the back. SHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHITSHIT!

I panic. "WAIT- VENEER- LET ME-"

"Is that me?" He asks. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!

"I- um- y-yes?" I say. "I uh, when I can't think of anything to draw I draw my classmates." I manage to think of off the top of my head.

"Wow." He was starring at the drawing, eyes wide. "It's really good. Like, this is incredible."

I swear him saying that lit my face on fire. "I- really? I mean I don't do it a lot. like I totally don't do it like ten times a day- I mean-" Shit.

He was looking up at me. "You draw your classmates ten times a day? Can I see-"

"NO!" I grab the sketchbook before he could flip the page. "Heh, sorry, I um, I don't really like showing off my art."

"Oh. Uh, okay." He starts fumbling with his bag. "Well, I should probably write the address and number down."

"Here." I offer him my pen and he smiles and takes it. I open up my sketchbook and find a clean page before handing it to him.

He flipped the page for some reason, wrote something down then handed me my sketchbook. "Here."

"Um, thanks." I blush.

He smiles at me, making me blush even more, and starts walking down the hallway.

I open my sketchbook, and I noticed that he'd written something on my little drawing of him.

"It looks amazing. You're very talented, I just wish I could see the others" It read.

I blushed so goddamn hard right then. I closed the notebook and clutched it to my chest. I am never letting go of this thing. Ever.

After that, it felt like the day was lagging on, that is, until choir.

Velvet was talking among all the other popular girls, and I was just beginning to sit down when two pink arms wrap around me. Oh Lord, why.

"Hi Ritzy!" Sally squeals.

"Hi." I say, frowning.

Then she freaking kissed my cheek and sat down next to me. She propped her elbows up on the handle of the chair and cupped her face in her hands and grinned at me. "So, what'cha up to?"

I give her a plane look, hoping that she'd take the hint and leave me alone. I don't want to break her little heart, but at this point it's really just annoying.

"I just got here." I say flatly.

"Oh! Well guess what?" She asks.

"What."

"I started this campaign thing where I sell cupcakes for all the little animals in the animal shelter! AND all those stray dogs that have been on the street? I donated a bunch of money so that they can be rescued! AND I volunteered at the retirement home!" She squeals.

"You did all that last weekend?" I ask.

"Yup!"

I turn back to my sketchbook. Where I was drawing yet another picture of Veneer.

"You sure like drawing him. Are you like in love with him or something?" She asks.

"N-no." I stutter.

She smirks at me. "You're sure?"

"YES!" I exclaim. "Can you please leave me alone already?! You're clinginess is driving me crazy!"

"W-what?" She asked. She looked really hurt.

"Please leave me alone! I've been trying to tell you without telling you but you never take a hint! I'm sorry Sally, but I don't like you like that!"

Suddenly she burst into laughter. "Wait, don't tell me you thought I had a crush on you!" She giggles.

"Uhhh, kinda?" I say, and she laughs even more.

"Oh my goodness! Sorry I made you think that! I guess I can be pretty clingy." She laughs.

I let out a sigh of relief. "Oh my Lord! God! I seriously thought you had some crazy weird crush on me! It was a bit annoying to tell you the truth."

"Well why didn't you say anything!" She laughed. "If I'd known I would have stopped!"

"I guess I thought you seemed so nice, I didn't wanna hurt your feelings." I explain.

She was clutching her stomach now. "Sorry about that! Guess I'm a lot more affectionate then I thought!"

We eventually stopped laughing and sat there, trying to catch our breath.

"So," Sally grins up at me. "Friends then?"

"Friends." We shake on it as the teacher begins the lesson.
