Chapter Ten

MAL looked into her boyfriend's deep, chocolate brown eyes as she spoke.

"Maybe we should follow him this time, yeah?"

"Yeah, but why?" he replied in a confused tone.

"Think about it, babe. He takes the same route every day, dressed in the exact same clothes that he wore the day we went to his house. Don't you think it's a bit odd?"

"It is odd, but then what?"

She shrugged. "It depends on where he stops, really."

Thomas then raised his wrist to his eye level to look at the time.

"Okay, it's time. He should be there any minute now."

The pair continued to stand in front of the remarkable restaurant, chatting about random things.

They were too deep in the conversation that they almost forgot about their goal.

Almost.

The next moment, Thomas felt something hit his shoulder, making him take a step back and nearly fall onto the floor. Mal caught him by his hand as he let out a gasp of surprise.

"Oh, that's him, let's go!"

They then began to hurry towards their friend, trying to catch up with him.

Griffin continued to pass through the people on the side walk, his expression as blank and nonchalant as ever. The pair avoided bumping into people, continuously muttering apologies.

It seemed as if the three of them were walking for hours. Mal's then unexpectedly stared at Griffin's feet, first taking note of how fast he really was, then his visibly white sneakers. Then-

Reality hit her like a train.

It was about four o'clock, and the sun was about to set.

Mal then took a look at their own feet, and took a mental note of what she was seeing.

"T-Thomas...?" she questioned as soon as she felt her boyfriend stop in his tracks.

They both found themselves in a place they could only remember from their memories when they were young.

It was a wide, beautiful grey-coloured bridge that had a view of the bay. Their little town was famous for their bay and that very same bridge. However, people had stopped coming there for about a decade, and neither of the pair could remember why.

"W-Where is he?" Thomas asked in a small voice.

To them, it would've been most peaceful place on earth, but it didn't seem like Griffin had passed from there.

Or anyone for that matter.

"Griffin?!"

Mal turned to stare at the bay from the edge of the bridge, which was made of thick cement and had beautiful patterns that anyone would've enjoyed.

It seemed so... Quiet. So peaceful.

Just then, a thought crossed her mind.

She didn't realize how easy it was to push herself from there. To just jump. The thought of falling into something she didn't know the depth of thrilled her.

What if she wanted to try?

The thought of falling into the smooth, clear water hitting her skin was almost too exciting.

Then, hitting rock bottom and staying there, getting rid of all the worries in the world...

It was almost too good to be true.

"Mal! What are you going?"

He quickly hurried towards her and pulled her away from the edge, then wrapped his arms around her in a tight hug.

"Are you okay, babe? I'm here..."

She hugged him back numbly.

"We need to find out why Griffin came here in the first place, okay?" he planted a kiss on her forehead, "But we need to go home now."

She nodded.

As they walked away, she took one last glance at the bay.
