(f/f)- favorite fruit

You were walking home from the bakery where you just finished working for the day. The air was a little cold but you didn't mind it. The walk back was quiet and peaceful with the rustling of the leaves in the trees accompanied by the sound of crickets. You noticed as you walked by each house, were happy families, getting together to eat dinner. Children running around the dinner table, laughing in amusement.

You sighed as you remembered your own family. You look back on the fights your mother and father used to have when you were little. It was horrible. The anger and their screams filled the house while you were in room, drowning in your tears. This all led to your father leaving you and your mother to fend for yourselves. 

Though that didn't seem to be the case as Varian and Quirin seemed to be always there for you two. Ever since you were a child, you remembered always being at Varian's house, playing with him and doing fun experiments with him while your mother and Quirin would chat away and made plans about the village.  

He was always there for you. You guys grew up together. He was there when you would confess to him on what you felt about things. He was there when you were the most happiest. He was there to make you smile when the world seemed so cruel. He made the grey skies in your life go away, even for just a little while, as long as you were with him. You couldn't see yourself having any other best friend than him. He was the best thing that has ever happened to you. You would do anything and everything for him because... 

Your train of thought halted to a stop when a raccoon suddenly jumped onto you. He seemed to be trying to get an apple from the tree above you. When he got the apple, he got off you and chittered away. 

You entered your house, ready to be welcomed by your mother only to be greeted by the dead air and total silence. You forgot that your mom had to go to the palace. Quirin had handed her an assignment to go to Corona to tell the king about the situation on the rocks that were forming around the village. They were sharp and slick, nothing that the people of Old Corona has seen before. He couldn't go to inform the King himself because he fell quite ill.

As you entered the kitchen for some food, you notice a note on the table with a quite noticeably messy handwriting.

Dear (Y/N),

I have something to tell you. It's really important. I took care of dad and made sure he's asleep as well so he won't he be too worried about us. Well uhm, I also have a surprise here waiting for you! To make sure you would come, I also made HAM SANDWICHES. I know you can't resist my food. I'll be at the lake, under the tree where we always hang out. I'll be waiting for you.

A surprise? For you?

You hurried into your room and changed out of your messy clothes. You were covered in sugar, butter, and flour from the bakery and you didn't want Varian to see you like this. You went on to wear a white off-shoulder dress that ends just above your kneecaps. You let down your hair and proceeded to comb it and went on to your meeting place, excited to see him.

You saw Varian in the distance with his hands in his pockets. He seemed to have the place set up. There was picnic blanket on the green grass under the great big tree, candles surrounding and lighting up the place. A picnic basket was on the ground, with a bottle of what seemed to be (f/f) juice. (wine's not allowed guYS VARBEAR IS UNDERAGE DUH) He didn't notice you approaching as he seemed to be staring at the stars in the distance.

"They do seem beautiful don't they?" you exclaimed as you stood beside him staring at the stars as well.

"OH HEY there, you startled me there. Well, uhm, yeah they do." 

He went on to look at you while you were staring at the stars.

"But they're not as beautiful as you are." he said in a soft tone.

Your eyes widened when you heard him say that. Did you hear him correctly?

"Oh god, I'm gonna regret this later. Uhm, I-. (Y/N), there's something I've been wanting to tell you for some time. I know this might come as a shock to you, but I think I like you." He holds both of your hands as you turn to face him.

Your face suddenly starts to turn red, but you hope he doesn't notice it yet.

"I- I- don't know when these feelings came, it's just I-, every time you know, when I look at you, I feel like I'm in heaven."

"You're the only one that really sees me. Everyone else looks at me and sees Varian, the dangerous boy that does weird magic and makes stuff blow up. You look at me and just see Varian, the guy that doesn't know how to interact with people without stuttering and isn't good with words." He sighs.

"Your smile shines so brightly that even the sun cannot be compared to it. Your eyes..."

He takes his hand and puts the fallen strand of hair behind your ear and places his hand on your cheek as his thumb slowly caresses your face.

"I could stare at them forever and just fall in love with you. Your eyes, it sparkles when you laugh, and the feeling when I see you like that makes me the happiest boy alive. You drive me crazy, (Y/N). You mean the world to me. I don't know what I'm gonna do without you. You shine brighter than any star could ever could."

You stand there. You don't know what to say. You feel the butterflies in your stomach going wild. You stare at him, looking at his beautiful blue eyes that sparkle like a thousand sapphires.

"oh god i- no uhm, this was a mistake. i'm so sorry (Y/N). I didn't want to make things complicated between us. Why would I think you would like me back?"

You tried to respond but he keeps on rambling and he's starting to breakdown. 

" I mean come on, I'm just your clumsy best friend who just keeps on break stuff up and is basically a disappointment to anyone." He sighs and looks away from you.

"You probably don't even need me. I'm just a burden to anyone who knows me."

You lift his chin up and face him. You put your hands on his shoulders and look at him in the eyes.

"Varian, listen to me. You are nothing like that. You're the most amazing person I've ever met in my life."

Tears start to form in his and your eyes.

"I would probably such a big mess right now if it weren't for you. You got me through my parent's break-up. You alone make me smile. Just seeing you makes me feel that I am worth something. You let me become a part of your world and I don't know how I could ever repay you for that."

Varian finally exhales and breaks into a smile while wiping your tears away.

"No one's ever loved me before. You know, like that. Hard to wrap my head around." You laugh though your heart twists.

"Varian, I love you."

"I love you too, (Y/N).

He pulled you in and kept you in a warm embrace. You felt at home. Both of your eyes were red from crying but that didn't matter as of now. You felt your body melting into his embrace. Nothing seemed to matter at this moment but him.

Varian broke the hug and exclaimed, "Wow, we got pretty ther emotional huh?"

You laughed, "Yeah, well I didn't expect this to happen cause I thought I was just gonna be devouring your famous ham sandwiches."

He chuckled, "Of course, how could I forget? Here, come sit down." 

He sits down on the blanket and pats the space right next to him, gesturing you to sit. He grabs the sandwiches out of the basket and hands you one.

"Oh and by the way, did you forget I have a surprise for you?" He looks at you with a smirk.

"I though this picnic date was the surprise?" You questioned.

"Well, that was just a plus. Here, I'll show you."

He whistles to the tree above you. You were wondering what he was doing when suddenly a raccoon came running down the tree and scurries over to Varian as he gives him a small jewelry box. 

"Hey! This was the guy who ran up to my head just to get an apple." You pouted.

"This is Ruddiger, he usually comes to my lab and messes things up but you know, I kinda like him having him around so I adopted him, but that's not what's important here."

He gives you the jewelry box. You open it and see a necklace with a star on it.

" I wanted to give this as a reminder, that you shine bright and that you are my star." He smiles warmly.

" Thanks Var. I'll always wear this from now on."

You try to put it on but you just can't seem to put the hook on.

"Here, let me help you with that."

You both stood up and turn your back on Varian. You put your hair on the side as Varian put the necklace around your neck.

He wants you. And you want him. Even with your issues. Even with his issues. He doesn't want anyone like you. He doesn't want anyone besides you. He just wants you, despite the problems.

After he put it on you, you faced him and you could feel each other stare at each other's lips. He slowly leaned forward. His forehead presses against yours, your noses just close enough to brush against each other.  Both of your eyes slowly began to close as you felt your lips on his.

He began to wrap his arms around your waist. You breathe in his familiar scent as you threw your hands around his neck.

He finally felt at peace with you by his side.

Here you were, under the moon and stars, with the boy of your dreams. 

It was just you and him against the world, and that was okay.
