My heart pounded loudly as I made my way to the Council Hall. "Chuck, why are we going there again?"

He took a deep breath and glanced at me as we walked. "Okay, so, Gally found out, right?"

I nodded, and he continued, "And, just like we did last time with Thomas, they're going to decide what to do with you."

"Okay, that sounds eerie," I said, shivering.

"It is!" he exclaimed, mimicking my shiver.

"Yeah, but don't say it like that again, Chuckles, 'cause it sounds like I'm going to die in there." I chuckled, ruffling his dark brown curls.

He stopped giggling and turned to face me, his expression suddenly serious. "You won't. Well, not really."

I squinted at him and stopped walking, forcing him to stop too. "What do you mean?"

"You kinda messed up big time—eh, I mean, just a teeny-tiny big time. But you can manage with your sharp tongue and wits. Gally's got nothing on you." He waved his hand dismissively.

"Damn right." I chuckled. "Ugh, but why is the meeting now?" I groaned. "I'm exhausted, Chuck! It's supposed to be breakfast time. I could skip this meeting crap, you know. What will they do, hate me more because I didn't attend?"

"Doesn't work that way, Miss Greenie." He snorted.

"Eh, whatever. Oh, by the way, is Newt already in there?"

"Yup. He's been with Thomas and Minho, and boy, does Newt look so down. All your fault too."

"Uh—" I shot him a jokingly offended look, but he wasn't wrong. Newt had this glow of happiness before, but it was gone when I briefly saw him last night. And it was my fault. "Yeah, yeah, I know. That's why I'm planning to talk to him at lunch."

He nodded. "Yeah, you better. He loves you like a sister, Miss. You can't really blame him for acting cold after what you did yesterday," he added quietly.

"Speaking of yesterday," he continued, his tone brightening again, "can you tell me all about your adventure out there, Miss Greenie?"

"Again?" I snorted. He nodded innocently.

"Chuck, I literally just told you earlier." I chuckled. This kid really knows how to cheer me up.

"Whaaat? When and where? I can't remember anything. You must've told someone else." He shrugged, his eyes darting side to side as a cheeky smile spread across his face.

"So who was the kid that visited me in my bunker, holding a bowl of fruit salad, demanding me to tell him everything that went down in the maze?" I moved closer and poked the back of his neck.

He giggled and quickened his pace. "Stop, that...that's ticklish!" he said between laughs.

"Nuh-uh! C'mere." I chased after him as he started to run.

I'm glad I made it out of the maze alive. If I hadn't, the regret of not spending time with Chuck would've haunted me forever. He makes me feel like it's okay to act childish sometimes, without judgment, saving me from losing my inner child.

Chuckles and laughter filled the air. I forgot where we were heading until Chuck opened the door of the Council Hall.

I ran in after him and immediately froze.

All eyes were on us when we entered. But we just kept snickering silently at each other, ignoring the weird stares. Because sometimes, it's fun to be an ignorant kid again.
