He calls himself a patriot,
But he dreams of living somewhere
Amidst the greenery,
Far away from his own country.

He dreams about the pyramids,
He dreams about the statues,
He dreams about everything,
Everything except something.

He ignores the discussions about his own country,
He calls 'loving one's own country the most', too childish.
He says his country fails to be modern,
He says the people here are too obsolete.

He dreams about the Eiffel Tower
And about the Parthenon.
He dreams about the Colosseum
And about Tower Bridge of London.
He dreams about everything,
Everything except something.

He forgets to dream about the Taj Mahal,
About the Qutb Minar,
About the Ajanta-Ellora Caves,
About the Sanchi Stupa.
He forgets them all.

He says, he loves every country,
He loves every country because of it's beauty.
He loves every country,
Except his own country,
He notices the beauty of every country,
Except his own country.

He calls himself a patriot,
Yet he failed his last trivia quiz.
He calls himself a patriot,
But..is he a patriot?

Happy Independence Day to my Indian and South Korean friends/친구 !
Also, Happy Belated independence Day to my Pakistani friends!

To be honest, I wrote this poem out of anger. Someone said that celebrating Independence Day after so many years is childish. He said so many more things that made me angry and that's when I wrote this. I write to drain out my emotions onto paper . So, I wrote this one! I respect, love and adore every country and every heritage and every culture. I really do and I wanna visit every place I mentioned above! It's just that, everyone should respect their own country first because their own country is what feeds them and makes them young, smart and intelligent and capable of being something. So, respect your country first before dreaming about visiting all the other nations. Don't call yourself a patriot, if you don't love and respect your country. Patriot is an important word, so please don't misuse it. :)

Also, thank you so much DaringWolf_for choosing the poem for me. I wrote two poems and I was confused as in which one to post. So, she helped me choose it. Thanks a lot H!
