KIDA USED TO KNOW WHO SHE WAS. She was a daughter, a sister, a firebender in training and a secret keeper. After all, no one in the Earth Kingdom village she and her family lived in could know that her father was from the Fire Nation. If the Earth Nation found out, they would be forced to leave their home and if the Fire Nation discovere d where their family was hiding, they would surely be executed.

Slowly, Kida's identity was chipped away - her parents were killed, she couldn't save her brother, and she swore off firebending because of it. The secrets, however, there the one thing that remained of her past life: no one could ever know who she really was.

Yet, from Earth Kingdom villages to the Northern Watertribe, from Ba Sing Se to Ember Island and everywhere in between, Kida starts to realize that family isn't only who you're born with; sometimes, family is  a 112 year old airbender, a hopeful waterbender and her sarcastic brother, a blind earthbender, a conflicted firebender, and a badass warrior chick.

And Kida starts to think that maybe, just maybe, that's worth finally living her truth.

author's note! i have to admit, im super excited to start this fic! it's been brewing in my mind for a while, and since im rewatching the series, it seems like a good time to finally get to writing it. the story will be about our main character, kida, and on the side there will be a romance between her and sokka that develops overtime because im in the mood to write a slow-burn, and really want to dive into the character of kida, as well as the dynamics of the gaang and their adventures (during and in between episodes!).

note, i do not own the plot of Avatar: the Last Airbender or its characters. i only created kida, her backstory, and some added interactions between the gaang.
