secret
"Aaaa," Jiminie sang as Jungkook fed him another macaron, eagerly chewing on his pasteries as he smiled at the student.
"You sure you don't want any?" He asked with a full mouth, looking at Jungkook like a sad puppy. "They're really good."
Jungkook rested his chin on the palm of his hand and stared at Jiminie like he was in a trance. "It's okay cupcake, you're all the sugar I need."
Jiminie immediatly hid his face behind his hands. "Nooo~ that's too corny," he whined.
"Me? Corny?" Jungkook asked indignantly, pretending to be offended.
The man's lips bended up in a smile when Jiminie broke into a fit of giggles. This boy really personified happiness, Jungkook found, his heart swelling at how Jiminie's eyes cutely disappeared as he laughed.
"You seem very cheerful today baby, does that mean you rested well?"
Jiminie picked up another strawberry macaron and did a small dance on his chair. "Yep! Jim takes on all the nightmares and panic-attacks as always."
Jungkook frowned. "He does?"
Jiminie took a bite of his pastery. "Yeah, it's what he was created for."
Jungkook widened his eyes at the sudden revelation. Jim was the buffer? Jim was the one that catched all the pain? Was that why the filter seemed so mature in comparison to the others?
"Does... does that mean all of you were created for different reasons?" Jungkook remembering his conversation with Diminie that now felt like nothing but a dream.
"Uh-hu," Jiminie answered, pouting with a frown when he noticed that his plate of macarons was empty.
"Why... why were you created?" Jungkook asked, hoping he wasn't flying too close to the sun here. Jin had told him everytime someone tried to reach the secret Jimin held within him the boy would shut down, and Jimin shutting Jungkook out would be the man's worst nightmare.
Jiminie blew out his cheeks. "I guess to... uhm... get back a bit of his childhood? People call me childish sometimes... but I'm not a kid! If you call me a kid I'll scream"
Jungkook chuckled. "Alright, alright, I won't, I promise. But why would Jimin need to get back his childhood?"
Jiminie pouted and looked very unsure of his next words. "Oh, I don't... I don't think Jim would like it if I told you... he gets really angry when I talk about our past with people."
Jungkook sighed. Fuck...
"But I'm not like your past boyfriends, you know you can trust me right?... Jim trusts me too."
Jiminie started nervously biting on his nails and looking around himself as if it were possible for Jim to be watching him.
"It's just... when Jimin was little there was a bad person... and the bad person did really bad things..."
Jungkook felt goosebumbs errupt on his skin but he didn't lose his focus. "What kind of bad things?" he digged on.
Jiminie's breathing grew more intense out of nowhere. "J-just..." the boy could only stammer, diving into one as he tensed up.
Jungkook panicked when he saw the boy starting to tremble, shaking his head as if he was furiously denying something.
"K-kookie I c-can't breath," he stuttered as he gasped for air, his fingers twitching like he was searching for something to hold onto.
Jungkook grabbed Jiminie's hand. "JIN!" he yelled, staring in complete shock at what he'd caused.
Jimin's older brother stood by the boys in no time, his face draining of color when he noticed his brother struggeling.
"Shit!" He cursed, seeing everyone in the café look at the scene with interest.
"J-Jin," Jiminie cried, taking quick and small breaths as if his lungs had shrunken down.
Jungkook watched Jin make quick decisions and figure out the best way to handle this.
The man knelt down in front of Jiminie and took the boy's hands away from Jungkook, much to Jungkook's dismay. It felt like the only way the student could do something for Jiminie got taken away from him and he hated it.
"Jiminie can you look at me? Just at me okay? Tell me what your favourite thing to do is huh? I heard there's a fair in town today."
Jin's voice was calm and steady, and he held eyecontact with Jiminie without ever blinking.
Jiminie was still breathing way too quickly, trying his best to look at Jin though he seemed absolutely terrfied at the same time. Tears spung from the boy's eyes even though he wasn't crying. He was just petrified.
"You know what's at a fair right? You're favorite snack after macarons?" Jin continued on, and Jungkook started to understand what the man was trying to do.
Jiminie gulped and nodded, his twitching gradually starting to become less. "C-c-cotton c-candy..."
Jin's eyes crinkled with a smile, and Jungkook felt like he could only observe with parted lips.
"And why do you like cotton candy so much huh?" He asked, softly stroking Jiminie's quivering hands.
"C-cus... it's p-pink," Jiminie made his trembling lips say, looking like he wanted to smile but his fear was still too great.
"That's right," Jin said, his fondness for Jiminie overflowing through his words. "Pink is a very nice colour."
Jiminie nodded, squeezing Jin's hands a little as if he needed to assure himself that his brother was there with him.
"Wanna count to 25 with me?" Jin asked nicely, the way an adult would talk to a child.
"Uh-hu," Jiminie answered, following along with the way Jin was over-exaggerating slow breaths in and out.
"One..."
Jungkook watched the two brothers count to 25 together and with each number he felt himself become less relevant.
He couldn't do anything when Jiminie was struggeling. He didn't know what to do but panick. He'd caused Jiminie to have a panick attack and then left the boy to deal with because he knew nothing.
"Nineteen..."
"Should I go?" Jungkook whispered to Jin, hoping he wasn't ruining everything by interfering. The student was ready to stand up and walk out of the café with a mountain of shame on his shoulders.
"N-no!" Jiminie whined immediatly, eyes blowing wide with shock. The boy reached for Jungkook and clamped his sweaty hands on the man's wrist.
"Stay, please..." he asked, a leftover tear rolling down his cheek as he looked up at the young student. "U-Unless you don't want to..." he added quietly, his grip on Jungkook's wrist loosening right away.
Jungkook's eyes darted from Jin to Jiminie and back. "Ofcourse I want to but.."
Jin gave Jungkook a reassuring smile. "If Jiminie wants you to stay I want you to stay Jungkook."
Jungkook wasn't sure why he suddenly got emotional. Maybe it was Jiminie's panick attack, or the fear it had brought with it, or maybe it was the way Jin looked at him, and made him feel like family with just his eyes. Had he earned Jin's trust? Had he deserved it? The student took Jiminie's hand and never wanted to let go again.
"Then I'm not going anywhere."
~~~
Jiminie was lying on Jungkook's lap at the back of the café, sleeping soundly as Jungkook softly brushed through his hair. He had calmed down pretty quickly and was far off into dreamland.
Or so Jungkook thought.
The student was thinking about random stuff like his school project, how much research on panick attacks the man was going to do, and hamburgers, when he flinched as he looked down and saw Jiminie stare right at him.
"Jin said something about a fair," the boy said calmly, reaching up his hand to play with Jungkook's nose like a baby.
"He did say that," Jungkook confirmed, already sure he knew what Jiminie was going to ask.
"Kookie take me to the fair?" Jiminie asked, pulling the most effective puppy eyes Jungkook had ever seen.
Jungkook sighed and simply accepted his life. He hated fairs, he got nausious after simply one ride, but there was no universe in which the student would say no.
"If you do something for me in return," Jungkook said, smirking as he traced the side of Jiminie's face.
Jiminie's expression fell. "L-like what?" He asked as if Jungkook were about to make him do something horrible.
Jungkook regretted making a deal with Jiminie that way immediatly. This was not Lil J.
"Well we're going to the fair no matter what," Jungkook quickly added, "but would it be okay if I filmed you while we're there?"
Jiminie raised his eyebrows. "Huh? Film me? Why?"
Jungkook got excited right away and chuckled. "You'll see, it's a suprise..."
Jiminie pouted and grabbed Jungkook's nose, squishing it with his little fist as he faked a frown. "No, tell me!"
"Ah," Jungkook winced, trying to pry Jimin's hand off his nose without prevail.
"Fine but if I tell you you have to keep it a secret," he said, sounding like squidward since he wasn't able to breath properly.
Jiminie giggled and let go of Jungkook's nose right away. "Yay!" He exclaimed happily, "I love secrets."
Jungkook rolled his eyes and rubbed his aching nose which was now red. This boy had a grip.
"I'm making a short-film," Jungkook revealed, smirking at his wonderful idea.
"Bout what?" Jiminie asked with a frown.
"You obviously," Jungkook answered, starting to play with some strands of Jiminie's hair. "Well all the filters actually... you guys have never seen each other right?"
Jiminie shook his head. "No not in real life that's impossible. In our head we're just voices."
Jungkook huffed proudly. "Impossible is impossible. You'll see. I'm going to interview all of you guys and you'll have a chance to meet each other. Wouldn't that be nice?"
Jimin didn't seem too sold on the idea. "Well... maybe... but Lil J. is still pretty angry about that time I almost dyed our hair pink..."
"Yeah you shouldn't have," Jungkook said, reminded again how much resentfulness Lil J. seemed to have for Jiminie and Minnie. "But I'm sure he'll think your taste in men has improved."
Jiminie squeeled and stole the attention of everyone in the café for more than a few seconds.
"Ofcourse," the boy said, warmly snuggeling up to Jungkook. "Alright then. Can we go now?"
"Sure thing. But let me ask Jin permission firs-"
"I am not a kid," Jiminie said, glaring up at Jungkook with an unamused expression. "I'm just... immature..."
Jungkook snorted and grabbed some of Jiminie's cheek to pinch it slightly. "You don't know your age?"
"Well I dunno... I like nineteen, because then I'm an adult but not old. "
Jungkook nodded fondly and carefully guided Jiminie off his lap. "Alright then, nineteen year old. But I'm still letting Jin know where we're going."
"Jin!" Jungkook called after walking towards the counter where Jin was working hard as always.
"Hey, what's up?" Jin asked, not stopping his excessive cleaning of the coffee machine. "Need to go home?
Jungkook shook his head. "Jiminie wants to go to the fair you told him about. Can I take him?"
Jungkook thought that since Jin allowed Jungkook to stay after Jiminie's panic attack, it meant that the man completely trusted him. But the happiness in the look of suprise Jin gave the student was priceless.
"You... you'd want that?"
Jungkook scrunched his nose. "Ofcourse! Why wouldn't I?"
Jin laughed as if he suddenly realised that it was indeed foolish to ask that since Jungkook and Jimin were dating.
"I... yes you can take him. I'll get some cash, wait he-"
"No, no," Jungkook was quick to refuse. "I'm paying."
Jungkook was almsot sure Jin would break out into tears right then and there but the man held himself together well enough. Instead, he gave Jungkook the most genuine thank you he'd ever heard.
"Thank you."
"It's no problem."
"By the way Jin?"
Jin cocked his head.
"How old is Jiminie?"
Jin seemed a little taken aback by Jungkook's random question but the student could see he was thinking.
"Uhm... well I think like 5 maybe?"
Jungkook nearly choked on his own saliva.
Jin laughed right in Jungkook's face. "I'm just messing with you. Actually I don't know. He gets defensive when you call him a kid, so I just go with what he says.
Jungkook sheepishly scratched his back. That didn't make him feel a whole lot better.
"Hey don't worry okay?" Jin assured. "He could be 26 for all we know. His personality doesn't determine his age."
Jungkook took a deep breath. "Yup..." he said, trying hard to convice himself of that.
He looked over to the filter that was playing with his pink hairclip like it was a brand new discovery.
"Twenty-six..."
