SHE HESITATED.
She hesitated for a lot of time before answering his FaceTime. Finally, Saoirse stopped her while she was pacing around the room, and yelled at her.
"Answer, Mal! Right now!"
Mal sighed heavily before tapping on the button. Saoirse immediately jumped out of the picture before the picture of Timothée popped on the screen.
And to their shock, he was a mess.
He had tears filling his eyes, and a few streaming down his face. He had red, puffy eyes, presumably from crying. As soon as he saw his girlfriend, he wiped his tears clumsily with his sleeve, and sent her a fake smile.
"T-Timothée? What's wrong?"
He coughed a little to straighten his voice, shooting a glare at something behind the camera. "We need to talk."
"O-Okay? Go ahead."
"I... We need to take a break."
Mal's heart shattered.
"Y-You want to break up with me?"
He nodded, then sunk his face between his hands and withdrew a sob.
"No, not like... Listen, I'm sorry, I just need some time off, okay? I don't know if I can do this..."
The girl's eyes began to fill up with tears.
"You don't know if you can do this with me...? But you promised."
He shook his head with heartbreak.
"Please, don't make this harder than it already is. I just want... A break."
She frowned and straighten her face into a solemn, frustrated one.
"Don't worry, Timothée. You can take all the breaks you want, because we're over."
He let out a small sob and waved his hand against the screen, trapping his thumb in the process. "I'm sorry, okay?"
"Doesn't matter."
Mal then reached for the exit button and pressed on it gently, making Timothée's image disappear.
Saoirse jumped out of the other side of the room, letting her friend know that she was listening and watching the conversation the entire time. For a second, Mal expected her to hug her and tell her that Timothee was a jerk for leaving her, but she headed towards her with a surprised expression on her face.
"There! Did you see it?"
"Saw... What?"
"That... Wave. I was trying to tell you before he called. He was doing it in the restaurant with Lily, from under the table!"
Saoirse repeated the motion with her hand once again, imitating Timothée from a few seconds earlier.
"Who cares, Saoirse?! He just broke up with me! My boyfriend of two years just broke up with me, and I don't like it one bit. I loved the asshole!"
The blonde girl frowned. "Yeah... I'm so sorry, Mal. I know how much he meant to you."
Mal allowed a few tears to stream down her face as she hugged her friend, then let out a few sobs.
"I loved him..."
-
Mal was lying down on her bed, browsing her social media on her laptop. She still had tears in her eyes, but they slowly faded into grins as she saw her fans' comments on one of her posts.
They all loved her.
She continued to browse her feed, pressing on one feminist profile she was following and reading one of its posts slowly.
And found her mouth gaping open in shock.
"Saoirse?!"
