64. silent killer

The client called again. The same one that Matt and Devon were heading to see. This time, he wanted to meet late. Isaac stayed with his friends Peter and Ned, until River was off of work and then he will pick him up and stay at his place instead of Matts and Devons. Due to the risk of HYDRA, they had to be careful about where Isaac was going, but act like he was a normal teenage boy.

Matt, Foggy, Karen Devon stayed at the place, waiting for this mystery man to come. He sounded anxious, scared on the phone. Whatever happened, he wanted to be out of the situation quick. Devon twirled her pen around her fingers, waiting. The man nervously came in with Foggy, the three of them stood up.

"This is Adam Voss." Foggy introduced. They started shaking hands with the man. They all sat down in front of him. Adam, slowly sat down, tapping his fingers against the table, looking around the place.

"You are safe here, no worries. Nobody knows you are here, just us." Karen tells him to calm down. "Can you start off why you are here?" He starts to move in his seat. Devon just types away for the evidence that they might need.

"So, i was in charge of this cargo a while back." He gulps. "Very important cargo." Adam moves around in his seat. "This guy, he isn't mess around with."

"Then why need us?" Devon doesn't look at him.

"I just need protection. Send me way, give me a new name, for all i care about. This guy is bad."

"Fisk level bad or Avengers level bad?" Devon jokes. The guy stayed quiet again. "That bad huh?"

"Whats his name?" Matt tells him.

"You wouldn't know him by his real name, its like he never existed." Adam says. "They only know him by one name, a name that haunts the world, second of the Winter Soldier...." Devon types. "The Silent Killer." She stops. Matt hears her heart immediately skip a beat. "You know him... Eros Petrov." Karen and Foggy immediately turn to her. Devon backs away, almost tripping over the chair, Matt helps her. Devon was whiter than a piece of paper.

"Devon, breathe." He tries to calm her down. Adam stands up.

"You know what he is capable of, help me." Devon pushes Matt off of her, she charges at Adam, grabbing him by the shirt, holding him against the wall, Everyone tries to stop Devon. "You know him..."

"Does he know!?" She yells, shaking him. He doesn't respond. "Does he know you are here?!"

"We both know the answer to that." She pushes him away, holding her stomach.

"Take him away, hide him." Devon says to them. "Change his goddamn name, he needs to leave." Foggy takes him away, doing his job, telling him to stay low and they will keep him safe. Devon was panicking, walking around, talking to herself to calm down.

"Okay!" Foggy claps his hands as he comes back. "Who is this Eros guy? and Please don't tell me why he's name is Silent Killer?" Devon finally sits down, hands on her face.

"Eros?" Matt turns to her. "Your ex boyfriend?" Devon pulls her hair back with her hands, nodding.

"Yes..." She whispers.

"How bad is this guy?" Karen tells her. "Hes a killer."

"Ruthless and cold...Like me. We were meant to be together... perfect match. Hes one of HYDRA's most finest subjects." She starts to tell. Foggy scuffs, another threat. "When i was in the red room, i was trained with him, we spent days together, went on missions, then i started to fall for him." She shakes her head. "He made me feel like a human again, and one day, we were set to kill Alexander Ivanov, who at the time was a threat to us. We promised to leave the whole life behind once we kill him and be normal, just as I killed Ivanov, Eros shoots me, leaves me to die." Devon sats up from her seat.

"Why haven't we heard of this guy at all?"

"Because its in his name. He doesn't draw attention, almost all his kills are pinned on the Winter Soldier, one of them being JFK." Foggy chokes on his cough.

"This guy killed the president?"

"Then what should we do?" Matt turns to her.

"Give him what he wants, send Adam away. Eros will not stop." She starts to gather her things. "We need to go get Isaac." Matt follows her.

"Just wait." He tells her, stopping her. He places his hands on her arms. "He's not after you. Let just take a moment and see what we can do for Adam and for you."

"I can't take that chance Matt." She whispers.

"Its true Devon." Foggy chimes in. "How would this guy know you are here and not somewhere else? Did he know you escaped the red room?" She shakes her head. "When you came back to New York, nobody plastered your name, he won't find you."

"Its not that simple..." She pushes her face back.

"Hes trained, he'll know." Karen finished. "Dreykov found her, what makes you think he wouldn't?" Devon held Matt close. They left to go get Isaac. River was at their moms house, so thats where they are going. Matt and Devon reached the penthouse and ran in. Isaac sits up from the couch and waves at the two. River comes up from the kitchen, Devon went to pull him away to tell him what is happening and Matt went to Isaac.

"How was your day with your friends?" He tries to stir him away from the conversation that Devon and River were having. "Build a lot of legos?"

"Yeah, it was fine." He kept looking at how stressed Devon looked. "Is she going to be okay?"

"Devon is going through something right now."

"Who's got her scared like that?" Matt stays quiet. "Dont lie, i know when someone is scared of someone. When i was at base, just the look of the Winter soldier scared me, he didn't talk which made it worse for me."

"What do you know about the Silent Killer?" Isaac moves in his seat, he gulps.

"Not much..." The elevator doors opened. Devon and River peeked to see their mom, back from her trip early coming inside. They panicked as they need to come up a lie for Isaac.

"Mom!" The twins run up to her, blocking her view of Matt and Isaac on the couch. Matt caught on. He tells Isaac to stay and walks up to Devon.

"Why are you all here? I didn't say i was coming in, i wanted it to be a surprise." She said as she puts down her bag. "Matt, hon, how are you?"

"Im good, thank you." He smiles.

"And you two?" She pointed at her children. "No call, no text, nothing. Did you forget about me?"

"Busy." River tells her. "Extremely busy."

"Yes!" Devon claps. "We are so sorry mom. Its just I've been so preoccupied lately, which is no excuse!" She elbows Matt.

"Yes, of course, Devon and I have been running around with the firm and the clients." Gen hums.

"Okay, then can someone explain why there is a teenager on my couch?" She smiles calmly. The three slowly turned to Isaac. Devon just chuckles and gets Isaac. He stands next to her as she brings him up to meet Gen.

"Mom..." Devon clears her throat. Shes been so good at lies but this one wasn't coming out. "This is Leo." Devon places her hands on his arms. Devon looks at River, his eyes telling her that shes on her own. "Your grandson." Gen was shocked by the news. "Adopted!" She yells. "Matt and I adopted Leo."

"Hi, grandma." Isaac waves. Gen didn't know what to say.

"That is why we didn't call." Devon smiles. "Because we adopted, a child, a boy."

"Surprise!" River sings. Gen walks up to Isaac, hugging him. Isaac fell for her warm embrace. He loves her hug.

"Welcome to the family Leo." She fixes his hair. She then looks at Devon and Matt. "Maybe tomorrow you guys come here and tell me why you didn't tell me."

"No problem, we will be here. Right Matt?" He nods his head. "Right, we should leave. Leo has school tomorrow and he needs to do homework and Matt has to get his stuff ready for work tomorrow." She kisses her cheek, shoving the boys the elevator. "Bye!" Once the elevator door closes, her smile drops.

"She seems so sweet. Can I call her Nana?" Isaac says. "Does she bake cookies?"
