15. Widow V. Devil

Matt called me earlier to stop by the office to talk. He didn't say what about, just said if i was busy and if I can stop by. I clocked out and walked myself all the way to the small office. Foggy and Karen stood by, watching me come in and head into Matts office.

"Do you really think they're together?" Foggy asks Karen as they watched the two talk. They acted like they were working, trying to see what they were doing, what they are saying. Ever since Devon stepped into Matts life, Foggy noticed the same signs that he's falling for a girl again, but time, this time the feelings were true.

"What is going on? What couldn't you say on the phone?" I stood in front of Matt, crossing my arms. He wasn't his usual self, he was bothered. "Matt?"

"Elena Cardenas died last night."

"The older lady from the Tully case, right?" He didn't say anything. "Im so sorry, she-"

"Fisk is covering something up, he killed her." He said to me. I shook my head since he caught me off guard. Fisk said nothing about this, nothing. "Devon, you have to be careful, he is dangerous."

"With what information? How do you know he killed her?" I wasn't trying to defend Fisk, i just need to know how and where he got this. And why Fisk?

"We have nothing-"

"Then why are you thinking he did it?" He puts his hands on his hips and head back. The two others outside were now interested on what was going on. "Matt, im sorry that Elena is dead, I truly-"

"Why are you defending this man?"

"Im not!" I put my hands up.

"Is it because he's your uncle? If im being honest with you, we shouldn't be talking-"

"Hes a family friend, i barely know him. I met him twice when i was a kid. That has nothing to do with us!" He shakes his head, I bit my bottom lip.

"Hes a dangerous man, you don't know what he'll do. Im trying to protect you." He starts talking with his hands. "He's lying to you, to your family. Maybe he had something to do with your fathers death since he was close to him." I eyes widen. He didn't just say that.

"He was good to my dad, he would never hurt him." With that, I grabbed my purse and stormed off the office and Matt trying to get me back but it was too late.

Fisk picked me up from my place and we drove somewhere where he wanted to surprise me with. The car ride was silent, per usual. I looked at Fisk who was playing with his cufflinks.

"Elena Cardenas." I started out with. "You killed her?" Fisk sighs.

"I didn't." He was lying, he didn't look at me, still playing with his cufflinks. "Whatever happened to her, may she rest in peace."

"Yeah." Maybe Matt was right. The car stops and we were at a small shop, hidden. Fisk and I stepping in and saw that the tiny room was covered in materials to make suits. The tall, bald man comes up and doesn't stare at Fisk.

"Potter, i want you to make my niece a suit." Potter nods and starts taking measurements. "Im guessing you will like it the same." He tells me. "Same design."

"Yeah." I handed him the bag of my old white suit and Potter examined it.

"I can get it done by tonight." Potter tells us, taking the white suit for reference. "I wont destroy this." He assures me. He goes to the back, pulling out dark material and starts cutting.

"We have a problem." Fisk tells me as I sat on the table. "The man in the mask has been making our lives a bit more complicated than it already has been." He takes a breath. "I need you to kill him."

"Consider it done." I hopped down and stared at him. "But I do it my way."

"Your way."

In the same warehouse where we met Nobu a couple of times, is where we met up. Nubo was burned and the Man In The Mask was there. Fisk wanted me to stay out so he can have a chat with the man in black. I can hear Fisk beating the shit out of him.

"I now have someone who can beat you... put you down... once and for all." The Widow comes in, looking down at the man on the floor, he was trying to read her heartbeat. It was like it wasn't there, so quiet, so slow. "Kill him." Fisk whispers to the Red Widow, now in her new dark red suit. They leave the room to leave them alone and let her do what shes does best.

"Hello pretty boy." She smiles. The Devil slowly stands up, ready to fight this new opponent. He just couldn't hear her, not even a footstep. The Widow kicks him, knocking him off his feet. He groans, coughs up blood. "Im sorry did I hit you too hard?"

"Do you always talk this much?"The man gets up and charged at her, hitting her back against the brick wall. She groans and wraps her arm to take him down to the ground. He gets up again, making the widow smile. She found a good one, someone who doesn't give up. But to his surprise, he gets tased and falls down. The widow puts her arm down and gets on top of him.

"He wanted me to kill you but you know what I think?" She whispers to the bleeding man.

"What is that?" He managed to say.

"You're too adorable." She traced her finger around his jaw, his bloody wounds. "I want to play with you until I get bored."

"How kind of you." She flips herself off of him and looks down.

"Ill see you around." She made her way out of the room, leaving him there. She didn't bother to tell Fisk, she did tell him that she wanted to do it her way.

Kazi took Devon home after that, spending the night on the couch. She wasn't pleased with her guest but had to since it really was Fisks orders. She had tried calling Matt all night but wouldn't answer and neither was Foggy. It kept her up at night because shes now worried. He cooked breakfast and set the plate of eggs and pancakes down for her.

"Thanks." I said as i pulled the orange juice out from the fridge.

"The couch was nice." He lied. "Very scratchy." He stands in front of me, me not saying a word. "Whats wrong?"

"Nothing." I put my plate in the sink and head to change. He looked at my scarred body. Wondering what kinda stories are behind those. I came back and he shakes his head. "What?" His eyes fell on my collarbone, a wound there.

"Whered you get that?" He points.

"The Winter Soldier." I sat on my couch and he followed. "He stabbed me and left the knife in while we fought. I would've killed him if it wasn't for Natasha." I kicked my feet up.

"Why do you hate her so much?" His phone went off, it was Fisk. Saved. "Looks like im needed." He gets up and changes out of the borrowed clothes and back into his tracksuit. I went to the door since I was going to see if Matt was home. He hasn't answered my calls all night and im getting worried. "Ill be back, maybe."

"Yeah, no, just let me know." He accidentally touched my hand, it took him a minute to realize that he wasn't holding onto the door. He apologizes and leaves. I shuffled my way upstairs and knocked on the lawyers door. "Matt, its me, Devon." I kept knocking, worried now. "Are you in there? Ive called all night last night and im getting worried. I tried calling Foggy but he wouldn't answer either. Whats going on?" I bang again. The door opens and I saw a very badly beaten up Matt. My eyes were filled with sadness. Oh Matt. "Matt." He walks back into his place and I followed. The place was cold, me being in my shorts and tank too didn't help at all. "What happened? You look like shit."

"Then im looking better than I feel."

"Are you going to sue? I think you should, look at you." I turned to see a door broken, shattered. What the hell? "What kind of car was it?" I slowly turned away from the broken materials. "Please tell me it was expensive and Italian."

"Japanese." He sighs as he grabs a beer from the fridge. "It was my fault, I should've been more careful." He opens the beverage. Drinking at 9 in the morning.

"Early for beer isn't it?" I crossed my arms.

"Depends on the kind of day you're having. You want one?"

"Im good thanks, had some breakfast." He walks over to me, sitting on his table, making me face him. "So where were you...when this car hit you?"

"Uh does it matter?" What was going on with him? He was being cold. He was never like this, not to me.

"Uh yes it does. If there was really a car that hit you."

"Devon, it was my fault okay? Thats all, lets leave it at that."

"No. Thats not okay. Look at you Matt. Did someone break in?" He shakes his head no. "And nobody beat the living shit out of you either, im guessing." He takes another sip of his beer. I stared at him, feeling sorry actually. "Is this about yesterday? Is that why you're being a dick?"

"No." I rolled my eyes.

"Then what is it? Hm?"

"Whos the man that stayed in your place last night?" That was off topic and definitely took me back. He waited for my answer. "Kazi right? The one from the party." He just chuckles. "I can feel his eyes all over you that night."

"Thats what you're mad about? Kazi? Hes just a friend. He stayed the night because he didn't want to drive back home since it was late." I scoffed. "I didn't know you were the building police. Why would you care? We're not dating."

"He was with Fisk, meaning he might work for him." He started to get angry. "Devon, you cant trust people like that, especially who work with him." I took a deep breath. "Kazi can be dangerous. People like that can hold dark secrets."

"Like you? Matt, you havent been honest with me. You getting hit by cars or walls is bullshit, i know what a right hook leaves when I see one." We started to argue again. "Im worried about you and you won't let me help, not Foggy, not Karen."

"I can do this on my own. But if you want to say that, look at you. You also keep secrets."

"You're going to get yourself killed Matt, and I dont want a front row seat." I walked out of his place and head to my place. I stayed there all day, ignoring calls and then Kazi comes in. He brings in some dinner and sets up the table. I grabbed my vodka and started drinking it from the bottle. Kazi comes up to me and places his hand on my arm.

"I think you're done for the night." He takes the bottle away and stares at me again. Hes face was a few inches from mine and I leaned in, placing a small kiss. The small kiss turned into a mess. We were ripping clothes and head to my bed. Kazi was on top of me and I knew this felt wrong. He wasn't Matt. Nobody can replace him. But I was so angry, the mixture of Fisks demands, the no leads on my father, Matts lies, it was all getting to me and I needed to destress. This meant nothing to me. One time thing only.
