Chapter 6: It's Okay, You Didn't Know

Present time

Namjoon's POV

After Hyung and I found each other, we exchanged our stories of how we both woke up here in this alternate world. He told me about him waking up in a random hotel room with almost everything a person needed in it, and about Taehyung being sick. We ran into the convenience store I was 'working' at and got some medicine, a thermometer, and some other essentials, leaving the money on the counter.

As we hurried to the hotel, I asked how he knew where Taehyung was, and he told me about how he found him in an alley with blood on his clothes and how he said that the police were after him.

Of course, all of it was shocking to me, but I instantly got a pain in my stomach when he told me all of Tae's symptoms.

I hope it's not as I think, but I'm worried that it is. If I'm right, the medicine may not help what he has.

When we enter the hotel room and I see Taehyung, my stomach clenches with worry. He lays on his back with his eyes closed and he shivers violently.

I approach the bedside and I see that his breaths are rapid and short.

I open the pack with the thermometer and wipe it off on my shirt before popping it in Taehyung's mouth.

I place two fingers just below his chin to feel his pulse and wait a couple seconds.

It's just as I'd thought: his heartbeat is too fast.

I take out the thermometer and check his temperature. It reads: 30.5Β°C.

This is bad, this is really bad. Shivering, high heart rate, rapid breathing, drowsiness, low body temperature; these are all symptoms of mild to moderate hypothermia.

But I need to know one more thing to be sure...
"Was he wet when you found him?" I ask, trying not to sound too worried.

Hyung nods, "He said he had fallen in a puddle of water, why?"

I shake my head and say gently, "His symptoms...they're all of the symptoms of hypothermia."

He gasps, his eyes widened. He sits on the edge of the bed and puts a shaky hand over his mouth.

"Oh my god, I left him. He has hypothermia and I left him. How could I have been so stupid?" he asks, his voice wavering.

"Hyung, it's okay, you didn't know," I say with a hand on his shoulder, trying to comfort him.

He looks at me, "What do we do, Joonie?"

"We need to get him to a hospital," I say.
But hyung looks at me with an unreadable expression.

"We can't, the police are after him," he says in a strained voice.

I had forgotten about that.

I think for a second. "Okay, then we need to get him as warm as possible, that means warm water, all the blankets we have, and a hot-water bottle if we have it, but we need to hurry," I say.

He nods and rushes to the small cabinet and grabs the blankets, a bottle of water, and surprisingly, a hot water bottle.

He fills the hot water bottle at the bathroom sink and throws it in the microwave.

"Wake him up, we don't have to keep him fully alert, but we can't let him fall asleep or his body could shut down completely. And take his clothes off. Quickly," I say, as I start to remove my shirt, and he looks at me, confused. "What? Wait, what are you doing?" he asks, raising his eyebrows.

"The sharing of body heat is vital in this kind of situation. The direct contact will warm his body faster, now hurry."

He nods, and gently taps Taehyung's face.
"Hey baby, I know it's hard, but we need you to stay awake, okay?"
Taehyung's eyes open slightly and he moans quietly.

"Now, I'm gonna take your clothes off, so we can warm you up," he says.

Taehyung doesn't say anything and continues to endure the shivering.

Jin unwraps the blanket from Taehyung and gently removes Taehyung's sweater and Jeans. Hyung looks away as he waits for me to strip to my boxers.

I sit on the bed, and Jin-hyungβ€”who's still not looking at meβ€”helps me move Taehyung so he's laying in the middle. I scoot closer and lay down next to him. I cup his face with my hand and tilt my head so I'm looking at him. He's still a little out of it, but when he sees me, his eyes become more alert.

"H-h-hyung, h-how..." He breaths out.

"Shhh, don't talk. Save your energy," I whisper, as I brush the bangs off his forehead.
Jin hands me the warm bottled water.

"Baby, can you drink this for hyung, please," I say as I put it to Taehyung's lips.
He complies and weakly sips the warm liquid. A little bit escapes his mouth and I wipe it with the back of my hand.

I hand the bottle back to Jin and I slide my arms around Tae's waist.

Hyung gets the hot-water bottle out of the microwave and places it under Taehyung's arm. I motion for him to wrap the blankets around us. When he does, my legs entangle with Tae's.

I pull his cold, trembling body closer towards me so our bare chests are smushed together, and our heads are resting on a pillow. I can feel his heart vigorously beating through his skin.

It's a strange feeling, to hug someone when their body is being wracked with tremors. It almost feels as if you are the one doing theΒ  trembling.

I hear that his breathing has become irregular. That worries me. He may be getting worse, and we need to monitor him at all times.

Taehyung slowly moves his head so his face is just centimeters from mine, his breaths caressing my face, our noses nearly touching.

His dark hair is tousled and his eyes are hooded and tired looking.

He shifts, and shakily brushes his cold lips on my cheek.

"M-m-missed y-y-you, h-h-hyungie," he whispers weakly through another violent shudder.

My heart clenches at the tenderness of his words. He must be so confused right now.

"I missed you too, Tae-bear," I whisper. I tilt my head up to kiss the tip of his nose, and he smiles shakily.

I glance over at Jin-hyung, who's eyes shine with tears. He immediately wipes them away when I look at him. I decide not to say anything about it.

"Come on, hyung. The more the body heat, the better," I say quietly, trying not to be too loud.

He points at himself, "Me?" is all he says.
I smile and nod.

I see him gulp and he reluctantly takes his jeans and shirt off.

He slips under the layers of thick blankets and lays his head between Taehyung's shoulder blades, back-hugging him and sandwiching him in warmth.

I can tell that Taehyung is trying his hardest to stay awake. His eyes close momentarily. It's so hard to see him like this, but I don't know what to do.

After a few minutes of listening to each of our breaths synchronize, Taehyung inhales deeply and his body shakes with something more than cold.

I see tears fall onto his cheeks.

"Hey, hey. Don't cry, you'll be alright. Your hyung's are here, we'll protect you," I say in a low voice, and I kiss his tears away.

Taehyung shakes his head, "Th-th-the o-other m-m-members...I-I-I'm w-worried a-a-about..."
he chokes out a quiet sob. This isn't good, he shouldn't be using up his energy like this.

"Shhh, don't worry about that right now, we'll find them, I promise. You just focus on getting better," I whisper.

Jin-hyung looks like he's about to cry again, and this time, a see a few tears escape. But he just kisses Taehyung's ear and whispers
'I love you's to him.

Taehyung nods as he squeezes his eyes shut and lays his forehead on my chest, trying to control his breathing.

Jin gives me a tearful look over Taehyung's shoulder, and I frown. We can't try and find the members until Taehyung gets better.

One of us could stay here while the other try's to find the rest of the members, but I'm not going to let anyone go alone. If I can help it, I'm not losing anyone else. I just wish we were all together, so I could protect them all.

Hoseok's POV

I open my eyes to bright, white lights, and the steady sound of a machine beeping.

The smell of bleach lingers in the air.

I look around and see I am laying in a bed with sheets as white as the lights. I see that a heart monitor is making the beeping noise. An IV is attached to my arm, feeding my body an unknown substance.

I must be in a hospital.

Why would I be in a hospital? I don't remember getting hurt. Come to think of it, I The last thing I remember is being at home, with all of the members.

The members.

I look around the small room for a sign of any of them being here. Maybe an empty banana milk carton from Jungkook, or a pile of broken glass from Namjoon, but I don't see anything but sterile white floors and a uncomfortable looking arm chair in the corner.

I look over at a small table beside my bed. It holds a lamp, a vase of wilted flowers, and a small object attached to a thin chain.

I take the object into my hand, studying it closely. It's a beautiful purple color, it almost looks as if it's twinkling like a star.

It also looks familiar.

I think I've seen it before, but I don't know When or where.

I try hard to recall when I've see the pendant-like object, but I can't seem to remember.

I stretch my arm to place it back on the table when I hear the door open.

"Oh, you're finally awake. How do you feel?"
asks a feminine voice. I look up to see a kind looking woman in a nurse's outfit.

"I feel fine, just a little confused. Why am I here?" I ask. She looks at me with a sad smile.

"Sweetie, someone found you unconscious on the sidewalk, so they brought you here," she says softly.

I look at her, shocked. Unconscious on the side walk? I don't even remember going outside.

She points to the object in the side-table,
"They said you were holding that tightly in your hand when they found you. Do you remember who you are? Where you live?"

"I...I don't remember what happened. Have you seen my family? Have they been here?" I ask, ignoring her questions.

She shakes her head, "I'm sorry, no one's been here asking about you."

"No, that can't...that's not possible."
I can hear my heart rate begin to quicken on the machine. This can't be possible. I was at home with all the members, we were all together. I know we were. So how did I end up here? Was that all just a dream? And that pendant-thing, why was I holding it?

"Calm down honey, I'm sure if you just tell me your name and a family member's phone number, we can contact them and let them know you're safe," she says carefully.

I nod my head and give her my name and Namjoon's phone number. She says that she'll be back in a little while and closes the door.

I'm not usually one to judge a situation, but I have an odd feeling that nobody will answer the nurse's call. I know I didn't just end up unconscious on the side of the road, but I think that pendant has something to do with it, and I'm going to find out why.

Nobody's P.O.V

A youthful looking boy with brown hair sits in a dark room. The rough, concrete floor hurts his back. He sobs quietly, calling for his brothers to come save him. But he knows they can't hear him. Nobody can. Tears fall from his big doe-eyes and pool on his chin, dripping down to the floor. The once delicate features of his face are now bruised with blues and yellows. The tender skin under his left eye shines in the moonlight that pours through the long row of plastic windows, too high up for him to look out of. He would be too scared to look out of them, anyway. He continues to cry and rock back and forth. He wonders if his brothers will ever find him here, hidden in the darkness....
