Chapter 4: Am I Dreaming?
Wow, I finally updated T-T
Namjoon's P.O.V
I open my eyes and blink away the blurriness. I was asleep. Or maybe unconscious. I sit on an uncomfortable wooden chair with my head resting on my arms. I feel warm. I look down at my clothes. I have on jeans and a soft, thick sweatshirt that I have never seen before. I lift my head and study my surroundings.
I'm in a room with a small table and a sink. A fridge sits in the corner next to a window. And a door.
A break room. I know because I used to work at a convenience store when I was younger.
I feel something in my palm, and I open it. In my hand is a purple pendant. It looks like it was broken off of a bigger piece. and it looks like part of a heart. A chain is attached to it.
The pendant is familiar, and suddenly I remember.
This is the pendant, or rather, part of it, that was glowing and making that strange sound. Although, it's not doing either of those things anymore.
The last thing I remember was all of us touching it and then a weird sensation, like I was being beamed up like on Star Trek.
That couldn't have been real, right?
But it had to have been, because if it wasn't real, then what am I doing here?
Why would I be in a break room?
I start to worry. Did I sleep walk? Did someone kidnap me? Am I dreaming?
My head throbs with the sudden rush of thoughts. Right now, I don't know, but the other members are nowhere to be found; and that worries me more.
I hear something like a car horn honking somewhere outside. Confused, I quickly pocket the piece of pendant. I get up and walk out the door, looking for the cause of the honking.
It was too close to not be directed at me.
Outside the break room is a small convenience store and gas station.
A car is parked out by one of the fuel dispensers. A man wearing sunglasses and a blazer is waiting in the drivers side with the window rolled down. I've never seen him before.
He looks angry and impatient, and he keeps honking once he sees me. Right now I don't know what to do, so I just play along. I walk up to the car, dimples showing, smiling the most charming smile I can muster.
I remember when I was younger, and these kinds of people would come to the convenience store I worked at. I figured out that, the nicer I was to them, the angrier they would get.
It amused me to see their faces flush red with anger when I would smile and say "good day" and "how beautiful the weather is today".
And maybe I partly did it because they deserved it, but I also did it because I hoped it would make them think about how they were acting.
Because no matter what, even if they had a reason why they were like that, why they were so impatient and unhappy in there life, they shouldn't take it out on others. And I believe that anyone can change.
So that's what I'm trying to do with this man, to see what his reaction will be.
When I approach his window, I greet him with a bow.
"Hello, how can I help you today?" I ask in a bright voice.
He looks straight at me, his eyes filled with hatred.
"Well, let's see, I've been waiting at a gas station for almost ten minutes. I'm looking to buy some furniture, what do you think?!?!" He yells harshly, "Now start filling her up, I'm late for a party."
Now I have to do what he says, since I said already something to make him think I work here.
But, do I work here?
I don't have the time to think about it right now, so I mumble a quiet "Yes sir" while getting pump ready for the fueling, like I used to all those years ago.
I pull open the fuel door and star the pumping. The gas makes a low gushing sound as it enters the tank.
I look at the sky. The stars are twinkling and the moon is a beautiful crescent. I love these kind of nights. It reminds me of the late nights that me and Yoongi would go for walks on. After I think about it, I begin to miss my six brothers. I guess you don't realize how much you need someone until they're gone.
That's why I need to figure out why I'm here, so I can find them.
"Hey, are you trying to make me even more late? Now, come on and hurry up!!" Shouts the man. I forgot he was here for a second. I put the hose back and close the fuel door. I go up to the driver side window, and take the thirty thousand won that the man is holding out to me.
When I go to reach it, my elbow bumps his side mirror.
"Hey! Watch it, you idiot!!" Screams the man. He reaches his arm out the window and slaps me hard on the cheek, making me drop the money that he just handed me.
I clutch my face in pain, not saying anything. I'm worried that I will just anger him further, so I bend down and start to gather the money.
His patients used up, the man opens his car door and gets out. He shoves me down to the hard concrete.
I grunt in pain, my head hitting the ground hard.
"Didn't you hear me?! This car is expensive! Now say something, you imbecile!!"
I shift, bending my knee in front of me.
"I'm sorry sir," I say quietly.
"Give me my money back, I'm not paying for crap," The man scoffs, sounding disgusted.
I shouldn't fight back, it'll only make things worse. But I can't help it. Something about this guy just makes me want to punch him.
I get up, keeping my head down.
"You deaf?" He asks.
That does it. I charge forward, slamming him hard onto the side of his 'expensive' car.
He shouts at me, telling me that he'll sue me and that I'll be in jail when he's finished with me.
But before either of us can say anything further, I hear a low humming.
I let go of the man and search for the familiar sound.
Then I realize where it's coming from.
The pendant.
I quickly take it out of my pocket. I see that it's glowing again. But not like before, now it's a faint glow, almost like it's alive and just barely holding on.
"What is that?" Asks the man. I ignore him, because the humming is slowly getting louder.
Then, I hear him.
That voice that I've heard for so long, the voice that wakes me up for breakfast, the voice that laughs at it's own jokes.
Before I even see him, I know it's him. It's Seokjin. He's running towards me, yelling my name.
"Hyung? Is that you?" I ask, even though I know it is him. Only, I don't know if he's real or not, so I just stand there until he reaches me. But, he has to be real. He has to be.
When he reaches me, the humming suddenly stops. He embraces me in a hug. And with that, I know that he's real. I hug him back. "Hyung," I whisper, laughing a little.
I hear the man get in his car and drive away. Good riddance.
Jin pulls away quickly, his expression changing from a smile to a frown.
"What's wrong? Where are the other members?" I ask, getting worried.
He shakes his head. He doesn't know.
"I don't know yet. But for now, we have another problem. It's Taehyung. He's in trouble."
