Chapter 33 - Part 1

Leon's POV

"Laura's in a coma?" Chris questioned the doctor, with a small but apparent troubled tone of voice.

"Yes Mr. Redfield," Dr. Rodriquez confirmed. "By medically inducing Laura into a coma, we were able to stabilize her entirely and stop the internal bleeding at the same time." Chris clenched his fists, as his jaw tightened.

"Why...? Was it really necessary to put my niece into a fucking goddamn coma!?" Chris questioned the woman, yelling loud enough only for her to hear. This anger completely evident now. He involuntarily punched the wall beside him, causing tiny cracks to form on the hard material.

"It was the only thing we could do in order to save her Mr. Redfield. You have to understand that Laura would've died right away on the operating table if we didn't induce her. Not only were her injuries were very severe, she had lost more than three pints of blood. Over half of her blood supply Mr. Redfield. That's how unstable she was. Laura was lucky enough to still be breathing when you guys brought her here. If it were any later, she would've been long gone by now," The doctor told all of us in a surprisingly calm tone, as her gaze slowly fell to the floor. "I'm sorry." Chris immediately calmed down—removing his blood stained gloved hand from the wall and unclenching his fists.

This came as a huge shock to all of us, including me. I didn't want to believe it, but it's true. Out of everything I've been through in the past fifteen years, this situation definitely tops it all of. Wesker is still alive. Missing along with my wife Claire. Maybe even dead for all I know. Now, my stepdaughter is in a coma, while still being pursued by an unknown enemy organization. And we're the only ones that can stop them before it's too late.

"Can we still see her?" I asked the doctor, while Chris woke up Emile and Tyler. Dr. Rodriguez glanced back up at us.

"Of course, follow me." Chris and I began following the doctor out of the waiting area and down the hallway—with everyone else trailing right behind us.

Eventually, we all arrive at Laura's hospital room. Located in the eastern wing of the hospital, on the fifth floor of the facility.

"I'll be back in about five minutes to check up on Laura. For now, I'll leave you guys alone and let you have your time with her," She said to us, before leaving the room.

Peering down at Laura, we all see her dressed in nothing but a light blue hospital gown and a temporary blue neck brace around her thin pale neck. Lying utterly still and seemingly lifeless in her hospital bed. With all kinds of cords and tubes taped and connected onto her, hooking her up to a heart monitor, life support, and a drip feed.

Emile and Tyler walked into the room—sitting down on a bench positioned against the wall on the side of Laura's hospital bed. While Chris, Piers, and I sat down in three chairs beside Laura.

"Oh god..." Emile muttered quietly to herself—seeing the state Laura's in while she covered her mouth with her hands.

Tears began brimming in her hazel eyes, as she glanced over at Tyler. He considerately pulled Emile into a gentle hug. Embracing her with care—letting the poor girl cry against her chest. Emile pulled away from him—wiping the remaining tears off her cheeks.

After some time, the two of them eventually fell asleep on the couch. Exhausted from the previous events of yesterday. Emile rested her head on Tyler's shoulder, as he laid his head onto top of her's. They snored peacefully, while lying on the turquoise colored piece of furniture. Piers got up from his seat—heading over to end table beside the hospital bed. He opened it up, pulling out two spare blue blankets.

He walked on over to Tyler and Emile—covering the both of them with their own blanket. Tucking them in so they could sleep more comfortably. Piers then headed back his seat, as Dr. Rodriguez knocked on the door. Catching our attention.

"Hello gentlemen, how's everyone doing?"

"We're all doing good," Piers replied.

"That's good to hear," The doctor said, as she came into the room. Beginning her routine check up on Laura. Dr. Rodriquez checked her vitals and all of her stats—writing them down on the clipboard in her hand.

"How is she Dr. Rodriguez?" I asked her.

She glanced up at me. "So far everything looks good so far. Laura's vitals are normal, and her wounds are starting to heal. Which is good."

"But will she wake up?" Chris questioned her.

Dr. Rodriguez shifted her gaze over towards Christopher. Her cheery expression fell, replaced with guilt and uncertainty. She sighed, pushing her glasses up the bridge of her nose.

"I don't know Mr. Redfield. Only time would tell," She answered truthfully, as she finished writing something down on her clipboard.

"Mr. Redfield, there are other things I also need to discuss with you along with him." The doctor pointed over at me. "In private, preferably in my office if you don't mind."

"Not at all." Chris and I sat up from our seats—following the doctor out of the room. Chris stopped at the doorway, as he glanced over at Piers.

"Piers, you stay here and watch over them. While Leon and I go talk with the doctor in her office."

"I'm already on it," Piers said, as the three of us left the room. Heading for Dr. Rodriguez's office.

"Here we are," The doctor announced we arrived at her office, which surprisingly isn't located very far from Laura's room.

I turn the doorknob—holding the door open for the three of us. I close it behind me once we were inside. As Dr. Rodriguez went over and sat down at her desk, she motioned her hand over towards two open seats on the opposite side of her. Gesturing the two of us to sit down. Chris and I oblige—walking over and sitting down in the chairs provided.

"What is it that you wanted to discuss with us, Ms. Rodriguez?" I inquired.

She glanced up at the both of us, giving us complete eye contact. "It's about Laura, Mr. Kennedy."

"What about Laura?" Chris questioned the doctor.

"There's something I need to tell you, both of you. This isn't the first time Laura has been admitted into this hospital."

"Meaning..."

"About ten years ago, there was a severe car crash along I-90 here in Bellevue. The incident left several people dead that night, and more people gravely injured. Including Laura, she was only eight years old at that time. Poor kid... Laura would've died that night, if it weren't for him."
