Third Person's POV
All through Natalie's life, she hasn't been a church person, but she's also not saying she's an atheist either. She doesn't worship the devil, but she mainly has a complicated relationship with Jesus. It's mainly because growing up, she didn't really go to church unless it was for either Easter or Christmas services, but other than that, she never really went.
Natalie is spending the weekend at the Coopers, which is fine because, unlike Missy, Sheldon, and Georgie. Natalie is the well-behaved child that George and Mary wanted. Sheldon has been driving Natalie crazy and making her want to rip her hair out of her head.
Sheldon doesn't know when to leave Natalie alone as he constantly follows her, which is creepy. She's nearly snapped at him, and then he'd look offended on why she's getting mad at him. She's been sleeping at Meemaw's place because there is no room for her at Cooper's place. Which is a good thing because she can get away from Sheldon. Though in her dream last night, she thought she saw him, which turned her dream into a nightmare.
"Mom, why is Natalie cranky all the time? Does she not like me?" Sheldon asked his mother as she cooks breakfast, as it's Sunday and Natalie didn't see why she had to get up super early.
"It's because I don't. I don't like kids besides Missy." Natalie says as she eats her scrambled eggs, she had already ate her bacon and sausage links, and her toast. Missy looks up at Natalie with a smile as Sheldon looks at Natalie. Missy had always been Natalie's favorite, well Georgie too. But mainly Missy.
"Why don't you like me?" Sheldon asked Natalie as she sighed.
"You don't know when to leave people alone and give them privacy." Natalie remarked to him as he looked offended.
"I do too, leave people alone." Sheldon says, denying it as Natalie rolls her eyes as he is making her irritated, and when she's irritated she will let everyone else know too. So they can be aware, as there is a different side to her, that they haven't seen and they don't want to see it either.
"No, you don't." Says everyone else in the kitchen/dining room, which consisted of Missy, Georgie, Natalie, and George Sr.
Sheldon looked at everyone else like they offended him, but Natalie couldn't care less. The only reason why she's even at the Cooper's is because Missy wanted to have a sleepover, as Natalie is her favorite person. But if she had a choice this was the last place where she had to be. Sheldon is the reason why.
"Okay, enough Sheldon. After breakfast we're gonna get ready for church." Mary says as Natalie looks up at the older woman.
Church? Who goes to church anymore? I don't.
"Can we go to Radio Shack today?" Sheldon asked, his mother sighed.
"Shelly, I said no. Sorry, baby." Mary says to Sheldon as Natalie prepares herself for the debate that he's gonna turn it into.
"Why?" Sheldon asked as Mary grabbed the empty dishes and put them into the sink. Natalie got up and went to the bathroom to avoid hearing the debate.
"Because your mother said so, now drop it." George Sr says as he took a sip from his beer as Natalie doesn't know why he's drinking at eight in the morning, but she's not going to question it.
After Natalie did her business, she walked out of the bathroom. She grabbed her bag that had her church clothes on, and she went back to the bathroom to change.
"What are we doing today, that's important?" Sheldon asked not letting go, as he was pissing off people that today, and it wasn't even Natalie either.
"Sheldon Lee Cooper. I said drop it. Or your not gonna go at all!" Mary says to her son as he finally shuts up, before grumbling under his breath of how his mother is being selfish.
He was glad that she didn't hear that or he would have gotten a spanking on the bottom, which would most likely be the highlight of Missy and Natalie's day. Not mostly, it would be the highlight of their day.
What felt like eternity, Sheldon got up so that he could go to his room for a bit, Natalie was so happy because she could get a moments of peace and semi quiet.
"Whatcha doin, Nattie?" Missy asked, the girl as she was in the bathroom putting on some makeup, which consisted of mascara, eyeshadow, eyeliner, foundation and some lip gloss. Natalie had just finished putting on her foundation when Missy got into the bathroom.
"Making myself look decent." Natalie says as Missy started brushing her hair.
"When your done can you braid my hair, please?" Missy asked the girl. Okay, she was practically begging Natalie to do her hair. The teenager smiled as she nods her head.
"Sure, and I can do some natural makeup for you. Just don't tell your mom, okay?" Natalie says as Missy had a wide smile on her face.
โง๏ฝฅ๏พ: *โง๏ฝฅ๏พ:*
After the two girls were done getting ready they got into the car and were on their way to church. Natalie wasn't overly enthuastic about being in the car. Mainly because Sheldon's bony body was in her ribcage and Missy was smacking her gum.
"Can we go to Radio Shack?" Sheldon suddenly asked which made Natalie roll her eyes at him.
"We're going to be busy today, Shelly?" Mary says as she turned a corner.
"Which is?" Sheldon asked as Natalie and Mary shared the same look.
Mary could see how irritated Natalie was, as she slowed down and stopped at someone's curb. "Nattie, wanna move up here?" Mary asked as the teenager didn't hesitate. Mary chuckled as Natalie was so eager to get away from Sheldon.
"Thank you, Mary." Natalie says as Sheldon huffed but the older women ignored it.
After Natalie was situated, Mary continued driving to church. "Mom--" Sheldon was about to say but Natalie stopped him.
"What do you want at Radio Shack so badly?" Natalie asked stopping him before he could finish his sentence.
"He's been wanting a computer?" Mary says to Natalie as she looks at the older woman weirdly.
"Why?" Natalie asked even if it wasn't her business of knowing. She doesn't see why a kid Sheldon's age needs a computer. Of all things.
"For research purposes." Sheldon says which made Natalie turn to Sheldon.
"Why can't you be a normal kid who plays in dirt?" Natalie asked him as it was his turn to give her a confused look.
"Because I'm not a wild animal." Sheldon says to him which made Natalie gave him a blank expression before turning back around.
"He doesn't like having fun." Missy chirps in making Natalie snicker to herself.
"You and I have two different definitions of having fun." Sheldon remarks back to his sister which made Mary give him a look through the mirror.
"Enough you two, or you won't go to Radio Shack." Mary scolds the two kids in the back as Natalie rolled down the window and smiled to herself at seeing Sheldon getting scolded.
It's oddly amusing, actually. Yes he is a 'special' boy, but that doesn't mean that he needs to get everything handed to him at his whim and call. It's annoying to say the least.
Luckily by the grace of God, Sheldon didn't say another peep to church, which was a good thing for Natalie as it was saving her sanity. She's not overly enthuastic about going to church, mainly because she doesn't have a relationship with Jesus, but she also definitely doesn't worship the devil either. So she's not an atheist.
She's a happy medium of the two. Just nice and comfy being in the middle.
Also, because growing up her family wasn't religious, but only going to church mainly on Easter and the Christmas service.
It's also because she doesn't have anything better to do, as she doesn't have a whole lot of friends. Beside Georgie.
Speaking of Georgie, he's with George Sr at football camp as Georgie wants to do football also because his dad is the coach. So that's why the other two people in the family aren't coming. Which is also sorta a good thing, because there isn't enough room for everyone to fit. The car isn't that big enough.
When they got to church, Natalie instantly felt over whelmed by everything and everyone, she didn't know how big it would be. Then again it's a Baptist church. Those tend to be bigger than most churches.
She felt small inside the building. Then when some of the elders came to say hi to Mary, Natalie took this as a chance to try to make an escape for it, but it didn't work out so well, as the infamous, Paster Jeff had stopped her before she could sneak out.
"Who is this beautiful lady?" Was the voice that Natalie dreaded hearing, as it was Paster Jeff, Natalie's least favorite person in the world.
Nothing really against, him, he just is sorta like Sheldon, and doesn't know when to leave people alone, when other people tell him to leave. He doesn't really get the cues, so that's mainly why Natalie doesn't like him.
Natalie stopped in her tracks and searched her mind for a response but nothing came out, so she turned to him and gave him an awkward salute.
"What's your name, Miss?" He asked her as she didn't have any words that came out of her mouth until this happened.
"Natalie come to Sunday school with me!" Missy had shouted which got her attention as Natalie looked for Missy, as that's when it clicked for Pastor Jeff.
"Oh my Gosh, is that Natalie Adams?" Pastor Jeff says which made Natalie uncomfortable, as she just nodded her head hoping that he would leave her alone, and get the memo that she doesn't want to talk to him. But alas, no he doesn't. "I haven't seen you since you were a little girl? How is your Grandparents?" He asked.
"Uhhh....they're alive." Natalie says which was quieter than she normally speaks, as just then she felt someone yank on her arm and pulled her into a crowd. Which was Missy.
"Thank the lords, I needed that." Natalie says as Missy continued to yank Natalie's arm, until they got where Sunday School was. Which sadly was on the other side of the building so it felt like it was forever until Missy had suddenly stopped, as Natalie had crashed into a door.
"Shit." Natalie cursed as she backed up as she put a hand on her head, as she was sure it was going to leave a bruise on her forehead as that's where her head landed. Once Natalie was done tending to her head which now had a headache that was going to turn into a migraine. She opened the door and the first person that she saw in front of her was this kid. He looked around Missy and Sheldon's age.
"Hi, I'm Billy. What's yours?" The kid whose name is Billy asked Natalie as she had an awkward smile at him. Her social battery was slowly draining from her talking and socializing too much today. Also it's not even ten o'clock and her social battery is running low.
"This is Natalie, but I call her Nat." Missy says as Billy nodded his head with a bright smile.
"Nice to meet you. Are you new around here? I haven't seen you before." He asked her as she wanted to be as respectful as she could muster even if she wanted to have her famous resting bitch face on.
"I moved back her last week, from California." Natalie says which technically wasn't a lie, if she's being honest.
"That's cool. I never been there." Billy says before he got distracted and walked away.
Natalie looked at Missy, as Missy looked at Natalie, and Missy shrugged her shoulders as Natalie awkwardly walked around the room.
Natalie was staring at the clock hoping that Sunday school would get done, so she can never come here again. It started off not being the worst thing that she's ever done, but it got worse as the time went on. The teacher kept pushing Natalie to talk and was being rude to her when she kept slouching as she called it a sin when Natalie says that she doesn't worship Jesus like everyone else does. She knew that the word was going to spread around that Natalie was 'sinning'. The teacher was just embarrassing her the entire time as she thought that it would be a good thing to attempt to go back to church, mainly for Missy's sake, but clearly that isn't going to happen.
Natalie had enough of what the Sunday school teacher was saying so she stood up, getting everyone's attention, including the teacher. "Lady!" Natalie says as the teacher was giving her a glare which Natalie returned. "Why do you have to be a bitch?" Natalie asked which got all eyes on her. The red head girl crossed her arms over her chest as the teacher doesn't scare her in the slightest.
"Because you are sinning, as you worship the devil himself." The teacher says which made Natalie roll her eyes at the teacher which probably pissed her off, but Natalie could care less.
"I don't worship the fucking devil!" Natalie yelled at the teacher which made the entire class silent at Natalie doesn't care if she will get kicked out of the church but she doesn't care.
If she does get kicked out at least she wouldn't have to see the teacher anymore. Which would be a good thing.
"You surely don't worship Jesus." The teacher snapped back at Natalie, as right now there's a whole debate about this, which is making the class way more interesting. Who needs to be talking about Jesus when there's this going on.
"I don't have a fucking relationship with him, it's not my fucking fault!" Natalie yelled.
"It's a sin." The teacher said as Natalie had it as she walked towards the door and slammed it so hard that it broke off it's hinges.
Natalie managed to find her way to the front of the church, and walked to the playground as she needed to get her marbles in line as she was surely going to have to explain her behavior to her grandparents and Mary, which she wasn't looking forward to. She possibly broke every single 'Christian' rule in the book, from her behavior today.
But one question stuck in her head as she was on the swing as she sat down.
Is it a sin not having a relationship with Jesus Christ?
What felt like hours but was in reality twenty agonizing minutes and Natalie was still on the swing as she had been crying her heart out as there was no one around to hear it. Though they probably heard her crying in the church, not no one went to check up on her.
Not even Missy.
She happened to look up as there was people walking out of the church, but she didn't bother getting up. Surely, she could just go wait in the car, but that wasn't an option for her. She was just going to stay right here, until Mary came to get her.
It didn't take long for the word of what happened at Sunday school to circle around to Mary, and she was beyond livid. She didn't know who to be mad at, Natalie or the teacher. As both of them were in the wrong of what they said, but more so Natalie because she destroyed property and was cussing out the teacher. But then the teacher was wrong for embarrassing Natalie and talking to her like that.
"NATALIE ADAMS, GET OVER HERE NOW!" Was the voice that made her ears ring as it was Mary. Without looking up, Natalie quivered her lip and walked towards the angry woman. Who was definitely going to be telling her grandparents her behavior. Looking down as she walked towards Mary, avoiding everyone looking at her, as some cower away, like she is going to harm their children.
Once Natalie was next to Mary she was still looking down to the ground admiring the grass to avoid any any conversations that was going to be in her direction. "What do you have to say for yourself?" Mary asked the girl, as Natalie's hands were shaking as she slowly looked up as it was the teacher who was right in front of her. Natalie's lip quivered as she tried to get words to come out of her mouth. It took her a lot of seconds to get the words to form in her mouth.
"I'm sorry." Natalie says as she sniffed her nose, before she looked back down to the ground as tears rolled down her cheeks.
"For what?" Mary asked the girl as she barely looked up at the teacher.
"For my behavior today." Natalie said as she now resorted to bite her cheek, as she's choosing her words extra hard and carefully.
"You are in some severe trouble young lady. Do you know that?" Mary tells the girl as they walk towards the car with Missy and Sheldon following her. No one said a word on the way to the car. Natalie didn't even have the courage to say anything, yes she knows that she could've handled it way better than she did.
Natalie wouldn't care if Sheldon was talking about something smart, but he didn't dare to make his mother madder than she always was. Missy had her arm out the window as she was singing a song that was stuck in her head which was the only thing that was making the car ride not to terrible and agonizing.
When they got to the house, Natalie didn't waste any time getting out of the car and walking into the house as she was in her own world. Connie looked at Natalie as her resting bitch face on her face. Connie was about to open her mouth when Mary came in and told the twins to go to their room, as she has to make a phone call.
"What happened at church?" Connie asked as she was eating a sandwich and drinking one of George's beers.
Mary barely acknowledged her mother, before she turned around. "Natalie cursed at the teacher, and destroyed property." Mary says as Connie looked at Natalie who was making herself a peanut butter sandwich, as she eats when she's stressed, as she's an emotional eater.
Once it processed in her head of what Mary said, Connie's eyes widened at it, as she glanced at Natalie who was making a sandwich and then back at Mary who was looking for Florence's phone number. "What?" Connie said as Natalie bit her cheek not wanting to say anything. She glanced at Natalie who stopped making her a sandwich as she looked like she was trying not to cry.
"Yeah, and now I gotta call Flo and Robert, and tell them what happened." Mary says as Connie nods her head as she takes a sip from her beer.
That doesn't sound like what Natalie would do. She thought in her head.
Natalie wasn't really paying attention, as she suddenly lost her appetite, as she left her peanut butter sandwich, as Connie wanted to do something but she didn't want to get the girl into more trouble than she already was.
"Hi, Flo, is it a bother to have you come over?" Mary asked Natalie's grandmother as Natalie's ears felt like they were ringing so she didn't hear the rest of the conversation. Mary then hung up before looking at Natalie, not knowing that she's stimming.
"Your grandmother is on her way." Was now the words that Natalie dreaded hearing, as she knew that she couldn't get out of this now. She had to face her grandmother, but luckily grandmothers are understanding.
Right?
