Third Person's POV

Natalie is finally coming back to school, well, at least in Medford, that is. You see Natalie and her mom, Elizabeth left Medford when Natalie was nine because of her abusive father as he had a drinking problem and her mom was paying for his habits. Her escape from her home life was at the Cooper's residence. Her best friend is their eldest son; Georgie.

She and Georgie go way back to when they were kids. They were partners in crime growing up, so when Natalie and her mom moved to California. Georgie missed Natalie so much, but the thing is that he didn't know why she was up and moved. He thought she didn't want him anymore, so whenever someone brought Natalie up, he changed the topic. Not knowing the truth.

So today Natalie is coming back to Medford, but Georgie doesn't know that. He starts his morning like he always does and doesn't get out of bed until about half an hour after his mom comes to wake him up. Which is something that isn't unusual for the teenager.

"Why don't you ever wake up when I first get you up?" Mary questioned her eldest son as he threw some random clothes together and called it a day.

"Because it's too dang early, in the first place," Georgie states as Missy nods her head agreeing with him.

"Yeah, what he said," Missy said as she took a bite out of her bacon. Mary turned to her daughter and gave her a look.

"Just eat," Mary says as she is packing the kids' lunches as George Sr is getting his stuff for work.

"I have a meeting after school so I will probably be coming home after it, but don't know what time." George Sr says as Mary turns to her husband as she hands him his lunch.

"Okay, have a good day at work," Mary says as George Sr kisses her cheek before walking out the door.

"Can I go to a friend's house after school?" Missy asked as she finished her scrambled eggs just then the door opened, and it was Meemaw.

"You're grounded so no," Mary says pointing a finger at Missy who sighed in defeat.

"Would it trouble you if I went to the library after school?" Sheldon asked Mary as she nodded her head at him.

"Sure baby, want me to whip you up a snack?" Mary asked as Sheldon nodded his head.

"Yes, please, and thank you," Sheldon says as Mary starts on that

"What, no fair. If he gets to go to the library and I'm stuck being grounded? No fair." Missy says as Mary ignored her.

"Hi, Moon Pie," Meemaw says with a small smile as she snatches a coffee mug and pours in some coffee.

"Why is Missy grounded?" Meemaw asked her daughter, Mary.

"She punched a kid at school," Sheldon says as he finishes his orange juice, and Mary finishes his snack.

"Why?" Meemaw asked as she took a sip from her coffee.

"The kid kept bullying the kid and I snapped at him and punched him in the no-no-touch area," Missy says with a small smile as Mary glared at her daughter. Meemaw raised her eyebrow as when Mary wasn't looking she winked at Missy which made the girl smile.

"Time for school, get your bags and lunches," Mary says as the kids get up and get their stuff she hands them their lunches. She gave the two other kisses on their heads, as Georgie was already out of the door.

Natalie was letting her dogs, Rocky and Sly, well not technically hers, more like her grandpa's dogs. After she got the gigs outside both of her grandparents were still sleeping, which is fine because it gives the girl some quietness in the morning. Her mom, Elizabeth is a waitress at two different diners to save up for money, so she isn't going to be home that much.

Natalie got her stuff and kissed the dog's head before making sure that she had the keys and stuff that she needed for the day. Before grabbing her skateboard, and heading to school.

She got to school and headed to the registration office to get her schedule and stuff like that. After she had secured it, and got her locker number and combination, she headed towards her locker, as she still had enough time to do so.

After she put her stuff in her locker and put her backpack on, as the straps were comfortably on her shoulders. She grabbed her schedule and walked around finding her first class.

"Do you need help?" A voice asked as she turned around and saw a kid her age. She recognized it as Georgie Cooper.

"Yeah, where is History?" Natalie asked Georgie but he didn't recognize her as the last time that they saw each other was when they were nine.

"That's my first class, follow me." He says to her as she smiles a little glad to finally see her old best friend again.

"I'm Georgie. What's your name?" He asked Natalie which made her tense up a little bit.

Names, Nia." She says using a nickname that Georgie gave her when they were five.

"Nice name. I used to have a best friend and I had to call her that. Her name was Natalie. She was my best friend until she left because he didn't want me anymore." He says which makes Natalie's heart break. He doesn't know the truth of why she had to leave Medford. The true reason why she had to leave was because her mom, Elizabeth finally had enough of Natalie's drunk abusive father.

She wants to tell him the truth, but she also doesn't.

"I'm sorry about that. I hope that she had a better reason for leaving such a kid like you." Natalie says pretending knowing that he isn't talking about her.

They walked around a corner and walked a little bit before Georgie stopped. Guessing they got to the classroom. "Here is history." He says to her opening the door for her. She gave him a small smile before walking into the room.

"Thanks." She says as he nods his head at her.

"You're welcome. My mom says I need to work on being a gentleman and using my manners." Georgie says which makes Natalie chuckle a little. Yup, that's Georgie for you, she thought in her head.

"Well, I guess that's a good thing then," Natalie says as Georgie smiles at her, she could stare into his eyes but that would be creepy, and she doesn't wanna blow her cover yet.

"Guess it is," Georgie says just then the bell rings and students start coming in as Natalie finds a random empty seat.

Before Natalie knew it, it was lunchtime, and the cafeteria was packed full of hungry students. Natalie got her lunch and was the condiments table where the napkins were. Just as she was about to go and find a spot to sit, someone bumped into her making her drop her food on the person that bumped her.

"What the fuck, girl? Who do you think you are? Don't you have something to say?" A voice says which made Natalie look up at her.

"Uh...sorry....?" Natalie says as the girl that bumped into her jabs a finger in her direction making Natalie lean back on the table where the condiments are.

"Watch where you're going, don't make it happen again. Or else!" The girl says making Natalie roll her eyes but the girl saw that happen. "Why you rolling your fucking eyes at me?" The girl adds. "Slut."Β

"Leave her alone, Esmerelda." A voice says as Natalie turns around and sees Georgie. "Go bully someone else." He says as Natalie starts picking up her lunch.

"There goes my lunch." Natalie grumbles to herself as Georgie gets down on Natalie's level and helps her to clean up the mess. "You don't have to help, you know."Β

"I know I don't, but I am." He says making her smile at him, as a couple minutes later they cleaned up most of it, as Georgie shared his lunch, knowing that Natalie lost hers when Esmerelda bumped into her and knocked Natalie's lunch onto the ground. She tried telling him that he shouldn't but he did it anyway.Β

He doesn't care if he gets hungry later, he just wants Natalie to eat.

After her last class of the day, Natalie went to her locker as even at the end of the day, Georgie still doesn't know that her name isn't Nia but Natalie. Luckily she only had one class with Georgie, which was history so that's a good thing. She hates lying to him, but she did it for a good reason; at least to her it's a good reason. Besides she just wanted to hear Georgie talking to hear that southern accent that she misses so much.Β

She's missed that Texas accent so much, that it would make her smile, especially when he called her Nia. She doesn't want to break his heart, but she knows that she has to tell him eventually, because it won't take long for her to find out. Also considering her grandfather runs a major car repair shop in town and word spreads around like wildfire.Β

She's just living in the moment, so when someone called her Natalie, she was shocked. Didn't see it coming, as it was one of her teachers. She didn't realize that Georgie heard it, and then it hit him, that the girl that he had been talking to all day was in fact the same person who left him for California, when she was nine. The same person who supposedly left him because she 'didn't want him anymore in her life'.

Georgie immediately walked away from Natalie, pissed and livid that his own best friend had lied to him, all this time. Even if it was a day. After Natalie got the paperwork from her teacher and shoving it in her backpack. She had her skateboard in her hand, she immediately went after Georgie.

"Georgie, wait!" Natalie yelled after him, as he wasn't giving up and ignoring her. "Please, stop, I'm sorry. I didn't know that was gonna happen."

"Leave me alone, Natalie." Georgie says as that's when Natalie grabbed his hand stopping him.Β

"Please, I'm so sorry." Natalie says as Georgie got his hand out of her grip.

"Why, are you gonna lie to me again? You promised that we wouldn't lie to each other." Georgie says as now her and Georgie are so close to each other's faces.

"I had no choice, okay! It wasn't like I planned on wanting to leave you. I didn't want to. We left Medford, to get away from my Dad." Natalie says trying to reason with Georgie, but he shakes his head at her.

"You lied to me, Natalie. You promised that when we were nine, before you left, that we would keep secrets from each other. Maybe it was a good thing that you left for California because I don't want to see you again." Georgie says as now tears are welling up in Natalie's eyes from his words that he said.

What?Β Natalie thought in her head.Β

"It wasn't I had a choice, Georgie. I didn't want to leave, but my Mom didn't want to stay with my Dad anymore. He's a drunken abusive b itch who would rather be at the damn bar with his drinking buddies, than with his own fucking daughter. So, I'm sorry that I hurt you, but it was nice knowing you." Natalie says as Georgie just looked at her, before he was the first person to leave as Natalie just stood there watching him leave, like she left him.

No, don't leave. I need you.
