Antoinette Ambroise was formed in italics, slanting soft spoken words and movements that look like they had been drawn by the delicate hand of a calligrapher. She is the most respected woman in all of the Riviera, so gentle and so kind that even many enemies of the man of marble feel a certain kind of admiration for the woman who has been married to Stefane Ambroise and has not hardened to the world. Then again, isnt the couple just the perfect picture of the conjugal roles they should fit into? The hardworking, cold and logical man, and the soft, gentle and attentive wife?
Most people see it like that. Sweet, delicate Antoinette, best of wives and best of women.
Truly, she is quite unique, as many of her qualities defy the definition of her individual traits. Though sensitive, she has excellent analytical abilities; though reserved, she has well-developed people skills and robust social relationships; and though she is generally a conservative kind of person, she is often receptive to change and new ideas. As with so many things, she is more than the sum of her parts, and it is the way she uses these strengths that defines who she is.
Antoinette is often meticulous to the point of perfectionism, and she can always be relied on to get the job done on time. She takes her responsibilities personally, consistently going above and beyond, doing everything she can to exceed expectations and delight others, at work and at home. This applies to being the keeper of the house, as she knows where every maid and cook and workhand is at all times, and with the Ambroise business, where she also has her finger on the button at almost all times, especially now that she has no more children to take care of or any other duties that are too strenuous assigned to her. She has aged visibly so people are more gentle with the diamond of the Ambroise crown.
Unbeknownst to her husband, she has helped the smooth flow of the family business for years. People will be far more delicate with a beautiful and kind woman than they will with an arrogant man. Not only does she have the deceptive appearance but also the intelligence behind this to carry her. Naturally social, an odd quality for an introvert, she utilizes her excellent mind and memory not to retain data and trivia, but to remember people, and details about their lives. She gets to know people personally and understand how who they are may affect how they do buisness, or what to do to keep them on side. The Tsar fell because his pillars of support crumbled, and she will surely not allow that to happen to her and her family.
Her intelligence goes beyond people and how they work. Call it a lack of cultural and financial deprivation but she had every teacher for everything she possibly wanted to learn as a child so she took advantage. World history, languages, sports, home economics(even if she only uses it for relaxation), economic and legal history, english literature, mathematics. She is a particularly good chess player, and can perfectly envision a game many moves in advance. Her imagination added to by her arts and literature classes mixed with her left brain preference for strategy and order combines to form a very formidable player and woman in general.
She cares about the ambroise name and all of that stuff, their wealth, their name, the same as stephane, however what she cares about more is the people behind the name. Her family. She respects Stephane but if anything got on her nerves, it was his constant desire for his future reputation and his wealth. He had more than enough to sustain every Ambroise generation for years and he would die barely knowing any of them. She would do anything to protect her family, even sacrifice their very name if it meant she could spend time with them and love them. She cares about matters of the heart and though she has a good reputation and would like to keep it, it is not her main priority. She is here to live and experience life itself, not wrap herself up in a castle of power and gold.

The Marbots were always powerful, second only to the kings and queens of the Riviera, the Ambroise family. It was made clear from a young age to Antoinette that she was going to marry Stephane. They had been destined for eachother since they were old enough to feel any sort of affection. Ofcourse they didn't. Not really. He was just so...stoic, lifeless. That was it, her whole life was centred around Stephane Ambroise and yet no matter how hard she tried, she could not inspire any love to rise from her heart. Its not like love was the most important factor in a marriage but she would have liked a romance to rival all those novels she read and Shakespeare sonnets she had poured over in her classes. She had always pictured the summer fetes with her love by her side, going out for walks, exchanging touches and glances as if their love were forbidden...she wanted someone who could make her feel like she had been shocked from head to toe. If he did have any sort of enthralling qualities, they must be nocturnal. Stephane had no shock, solid rock and stern gazes and questions he had clearly rehearsed as they walked along the seaside, parents close behind. Easy questions, impersonal questions. Targeted at women of society, something she was yes and she too had rehearsed answers but her hopes were high and had fallen quite quickly. It was foolish. She had been told all her life that love was all a woman was fit for, but by love they meant marriage and by marriage they meant economic prosperity. For the husband ofcourse. She barely liked Stephane, and he only really wanted her for her face and her brother. Ofcourse things changed, after their company had been forced on one another. She saw that he genuinely enjoyed as she talked about classes and trips and memories, he would ask questions with interest, she would laugh, he would smile. Then ofcourse there was that evening in the drawing room where she toppled his king and he stared at her like it was their wedding day. This all fades, with age and with space and with time, but she still looks back fondly at the brief moments of joy that cling to the memory of young courtship. It wasn't perfect but it was good, good enough for 2 young boys and beautiful grandchildren. They became her life after Stephane had become like he had when they first met but she didnt care, her boys were her everything and they still are, along with the girls. She sees herself in them both.
She sees now how some young women break this mould of marriage in subtle little ways but Antoinette did not have that. She simply learnt how to operate within the mould like all other wives. She is an obedient wife, no decisions are made without her husband, she is pretty to look at, she is well respected and loved, she deals with the matters Stephane cannot be bothered to, like emotions and hospitality. However she does far more. If she is to be in a marriage that is a buisness ordeal then she shall be a part of a business. She pulls strings and plants ideas and whispers words. She values her family more than anything and she would never let this buisness get between her relationship with them but...she has to have a hobby right?
