Callan is a peculiar character all right. When you first meet him it's all charms and jokes, and often following that comes reckless abandon but not for him. He developed caution. He doesn't want anyone to get hurt and that shows through his actions. He carefully thinks everything through, which lends itself nicely to his intelligence and people skills.
