Step back everyone, we got ourselves a bombshell! If we rewinded around 5 years, we would be dealing with a very different Maya. One who's past life still haunted her and one who was not quite as pleasant. Now she holds herself like she knows she's a freaking boss. She's worked hard to get there, don't get me wrong. The first trait of hers that you will notice is her humour, sardonic and witty as anything, she has a rapport that stops for nobody. Whether that be a fun joke with friends or cutting someone down to size. Which happens often enough when the people around you reek of self importance. Ew. She has alot of emotions and no idea how to handle them, though she has gotten alot better. She is stubborn as her mother (adoptive, but it's uncanny), but as forgiving as her father when it comes to those she loves. As soon as she trusts someone, she'll be a real pushover for them. Really and truly Maya just wants to be a normal teenager...who lives in a fancy house in Manhattan by chance but still.
She carries alot of empathy in her, when she sees broken things she sees the familiar and she will attempt to befriend those she can relate to. Similarly, she harbours alot of anger, her hotheaded nature being evident when someone pisses her off just a little bit too much. Her outward confidence is infectious, she gives off a vibe that screams "the world is my playground!" Overall, Maya is a smart girl with a heart of gold and a silver tongue to accompany it.

[BACKSTORY]
Maya was born in New York to an absent father and an overwhelmed mother. Her father both neglected her and her mother greatly and until she was 9 her mother took care of her. When she died due to a joyrider crashing into her one night, it was up to her father who didn't want the job and after a year, put her up for adoption. She spent a couple years or so in foster care until Elena and Kol started to look into adoption. Maya's mother is like her, a foster kid. After the process was over and they finally got to legally be her guardian, they realised the damage that her past had caused. She made trouble for herself, everywhere she went and couldn't even explain why. She got into fights and hung around where she shouldn't. When therapy was brought up she resented the idea, but eventually she realised it may help. It has and, with the help of friends and family, she is going on the right path.
