FOOTSTEPS ENTER THE ELDEST SALVATORE'S ROOM MAKING DAMON TURN HIS HEAD TOWARDS THE SOUND. Cassandra was standing there with a tight smile, sighing as she then walked over to where he was standing. Damon glances in her direction before he downs the drink that was in his hand. "I'm sorry." She says, sadness in her tone as she had heard about Rose. Apparently Jules had bit her and she had died from the bite. Damon had been the one to kill her. It was clear the man felt something for the woman even if he didn't admit it. "Damon, it's okay to care." She tells him softly, offering him a small smile. Damon closes his eyes, leaning into her hand as he tries to get his emotions under control. Most people would say that they were soulmates. Soulmates don't always have to be in love with each other, it can be simply platonic, it could involve comfort, sex, intimacy which is what their friendship is built on. The love that they have for each other, they would die for each other. Anyone who didn't know them wouldn't think they would but their connection is pure. No matter if they get angry at one another, they can never truly leave them
"Did you know?" He questions as he glances down at the floor. They had recently learned that in order to kill Klaus, Elena has to die in the sacrifice. There was no way around it and it made Damon pissed that they weren't told this earlier.
"Know what?" She asks confused as she feels him pull away from her hold. Damon takes a moment, licking his bottom lip as he was hoping that her answer would be what he wanted it to be. He could feel Cassandra's eyes on him but he didn't meet her gaze.
"Elena has to die in order to kill Klaus." Damons words struck her like a truck. She couldn't exactly lie because she had already told them she had saved Katherine from the sacrifice. How it took them this long to figure it out was beyond her though.
"Elena knew too." She points out, not wanting to be the only one to blame for the entire thing. Cassandra didn't understand why Elena didn't just tell the Salvatore's that though, like it wasn't hard to put together.
"And you were just going to let it happen?" He hissed as he crosses his arms against his chest. Cassandra was going to let her die yes, but she also knew there was a way for the doppleganger to come back so of course she would take that risk.
"I need him dead, Damon." Cassandra says blantely as she grabs a glass to pour bourbon into. When she was done, Damon only grabs it and throws it at the wall causing it to shatter into pieces. She only gives him a stern look before her eyes drift to the pieces of glass on the floor.
"Right, cause we live in the world of Cassandra." Damon scoffs as he glares at the girl, his jaw clenched. Cassandra stares at him for a moment, trying to keep herself contained because she could very well rip out Damon's heart if she wanted to.
"I was trying to find a way to save her life." She snaps at the man with venom in her tone. Where did Damon get the nerve to talk to her that way. It's not her fault that the same psycho who wants Elena is coming for her as well. She knew about the elixir, Elijah had told her about it back in 1492 but by the time he got his hands on it, she had fled with Katherine. "You really think I was going to save her life all these times and just let her die?" Cassandra asks him with furrowed eyebrows, slightly pissed off that he thinks she would genuinely let Elena die. She didn't like the girl too much but she didn't deserve to die so her blood could be spilled over some stupid rock.
"Thank you." Damon says after a moment of silence, feeling had for going off on her. Cassandra only gives him a slight nod, a signal that she wasn't mad at him. She understood where his frustration came from.
"You okay?" She asks him as she notices the longing look he had on his face. Damon glances at her for a second before his eyes drift over to his window, shaking his head a slight scoff leaves his lips.
"I'm in love with a girl I can never have." He states with a distant expression before looking back over at Cassandra with a tight, sarcastic smile. "I'm just peachy." Damon adds as he licks his bottom lip, internally hating himself for not being able to get over Elena.
"I'm in love with two originals that keep screwing me over." Cassandra replies to him with a small smile, shocking herself a little bit because she has never said she loved Elijah out loud. Damon notices this as well but doesn't comment on it.
"Why couldn't it be simple where we fall for each other?" Damon asks as he runs a hand through his hair, leaning against the wall. The universe had a funny way of screwing with people and for Damon and Cassandra, it was loving people that they clearly couldn't be with.
"Nothing is ever that simple." She tells him with a sigh as she sees the sorrow expression on her friends face. Cassandra felt bad for Damon because she knew that Elena was just using him and leading him along when she was with Stefan. "But hey." Cassandra catches his attention, her finger pulling at his chin making him glance curiously down at her. "I love being your best friend with benefits." She states with a slight smirk before she pulls Damon into a heated kiss. He immediately responds, pulling her body against his as their lips dance together. He hoists her up onto his dresser before moving in between her legs.
Cassandra always loved having sex with Damon because there was one thing he was always able to do. Take her mind off of the two brothers who were ultimately going to be the death of her.
β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’
AFTER DAMON AND CASSANDRA FINISHED IN THE SHOWER, Stefan had called Damon leaving the girl to finish getting ready. Damon was watching as the girl brushed out her hair, her body wrapped in a towel as he sat on his bed, his phone to his ear. "I showered. I shaved. Had a delicious workout." Damon says with a smirk as his gaze follows Cassandra as she walks towards the clothes she had set out. Stefan rolls his eyes as he rubs his face a little bit, knowing very well what his brother meant.
"Damon, is it really smart to have this sort of.. physical relationship with her?" Stefan asks with a sigh as it was only a matter of time before his brother become the top of the hit list for Klaus and Elijah. It was clear that Elijah had already figured out what has happened with them.
"Of course it is. You know how good she makes us feel, Stef." He states in a taunting voice causing Stefan to internally groan, never wanting to hear that again. Although it was true, he loved Elena and Cassandra should never be on his mind like that when he's with her.
"I mean, because she has two originals in love with her." Stefan points out as he crosses his arms against his chest. Damon rolls his eyes for a moment as Cassandra had glanced over at him. She could hear the conversation clearly and she couldn't care less if Klaus found out that she was sleeping around. She could do whatever she wanted. She wasn't his property.
"Well, we're best friends either way so." Damon says in an annoyed voice as he just wanted everyone to stop bringing up Klaus and Elijah. Cassandra was done with them so it didn't matter what they were doing.
"Makes one of us." He mumbled, still not very fond of the woman because she had lied to them so many times. There's a moment of silence before Stefan pipes up again. "Stop staring at her." Stefan says causing Damon to snap out of his gaze as he licks his lips, clearing his throat a little bit.
"Wha--im not." Damon denies as he notices the small smirk that formed on Cassandra's face. He runs a hand through his hair, looking away from her. "I did hear one piece of good news though, Tyler Lockwood ran away from home last night." He sing songs with a smirk as he was glad that the werewolves were finally gone. Now they didn't have to worry about getting bitten and dying.
"How do you know?" Stefan asks confused as he didn't think Tyler would just up and leave like that. Even though it was probably in his best interest.
"Well, I heard it from sheriff Forbes who heard it from a very distraught Carol Lockwood therefore ending our wereolf chapter bringing us to..." Damon trails off as he raises his eyebrows. Cassandra was now in her undergarments as she saunters over to her clothes, glancing over at the Salvatore for a moment.
"Killing Elijah." Stefan finished making Cassandra bite her bottom lip. She had never seen Elijah daggered before because he always stuck by Klaus's side. Cassandra didn't know much about the daggers, only that Klaus never let her touch them. She didn't know why but right now she could care less what his intentions were.
"Exactly." Damon says as he notices the girls wandering eyes, the wheels In her head turning. Cassandra only sighs as she puts the dress she had set out on. It was black and tight, hugging her curves as she zips it up.
"It's not going to be easy." Stefan tells his brother as they couldn't exactly just waltz up and kill an original vampire. Elijah was smart, he knew their moves before they even made them.
"Well, I have a crafty little dagger." Damon states as Damon eyes Cassandra as she bends down to put her shoes on. He smirks a little bit as he makes eye contact with her through the mirror. Cassandra only smirks back as she stands back up, turning around to face him.
"He's an original, we don't know what that encompasses." Stefan points out with a roll of his eyes as he lets out a slight scoff. Cassandra had made her way over to him at this point, straddling his waist as she kisses his neck lightly before sinking her fangs in. Damon grunts a little bit but gets used to it after a second.
"Oh, trust me Stefan I'm gonna dot all my T's I don't want any surprises. Plus we have our original book." Damon points out with a sigh, his hand placed on her ass, giving it a tight squeeze. Cassandra moans into his neck a little bit but it doesn't stop her from feeding. "Right here on my lap, in a fiesty little dress may I add. it sculpts her body perfectly." He says with a smirk on his face as he wanted to tease his brother a little bit. Stefan internally groans at the comment as of course he had to bring Cassandra into the conversation like that.
"I don't need to know that, Damon." Stefan replies as he rubs his eyes a little bit. He could hear the faint moaning a little away from the phone causing him to shiver in disgust for a moment. "Wait, you guys aren't doing anything are you?" He asks, hoping that the answer will be no because he was one second away from ending the call. Damon rolls his eyes as he moves Cassandra farther onto his lap as she had one hand on his neck and the other on his shoulder.
"Give me some class Stefan, that was one time. She's just feeding." Damon says with a scoff as he hears a slight laugh come from the girl. She continues to feed though before pulling away for a second. He meets her eyes, blood running from her bottom lip.
"On your lap?"Stefan asks in a confused tone, his eyebrows furrowing as he didn't get why she had to be feeding so close to him. Damon takes his thumb and wipes the dripping blood from her face allowing Cassandra to then suck it off of him.
"She prefers vampire blood and I'm the closest blood source." Damon says nonchalantly as Cassandra starts to clean up his neck a little bit. He could hear the internal thoughts of his brother scolding him but nothing was said out loud.
"You're blood sharing? Isn't that really personal." Stefan questions as he rubs his face. Damon only rolls his eyes at the constant questions, why did he need to know and ask everything, Damon would never know.
"We're best friends, it's what you do." He answers as Cassandra rests her head on the palm of her hand. Damon gives her a soft expression as it was obvious how tired she was of everything. She just needed it to be over.
"Anyways, youre actually going to be careful for once?" Stefan asks, kind of shocked that his brother wasn't just going to wing it and try to kill an original all on his own.
"Yes, Stefan. I've become you. Gotta run, got a murder to plan. Busy day." Damon says before hanging up the phone and allowing Cassandra to get up from his lap. She couldn't help the feeling she got in her stomach, it dropping when she thought about Elijah dying. She knows he wouldnt be permanently dead but it still felt weird that he would be gone, she's had him around for hundreds of years.
"So, you love my dress." She asks with a raise of her eyebrow. Damon only pulls her towards him, running his hands down her body making a low whistle before starting to tug it upwards. Cassandra laughs before grabbing at his hands in order to pull her dress back down. Damon pouts lightly but let's her go as he poured himself a glass of bourbon.
"Is there any other special things about originals?" He questions as he moves over to his dresser to close the drawers. Cassandra thinks for a moment before she shrugs, letting out a slight sigh.
"Immune to werewolves, are faster, stronger, can't die from sun.." She trails off uninterested as she pours herself a glass of whiskey, instantly downing it all. Damon crosses his arms against his chest as he walks up to her.
"Do you think we have a shot?" He asks as he pours himself a glass as well. Cassandra glances at him, thinking to herself for a second. Elijah wasn't exactly a man who you could get extremely close to even if you tried. He was closed off, the only reason she got so close is because he trusted her. And well, he was In love with her.
"Maybe, if you catch him off guard." Cassandra states truthfully as that would be the only way you could ever get close to the original. Damon raises his eyebrows for a moment before he eyes her up and down. She looks at him suspiciously, knowing that he was up to something.
"Oh, we will." He says in a taunting voice making her squints her eyes a little bit. Cassandra knew the plan would involve her in a way but she couldn't exactly figure out her role.
"What are you thinking?" Cassandra questions him as she crosses her arms against her chest. Damon hesitates, knowing she didn't want to be near the original especially when they were going to kill him but it was probably the only way he would end up coming.
"You can be our little distraction. You don't have to do anything, just wear a little exposing dress, get close to him, catch his attention and then I will come up behind and --" Damon starts to make a staking action but Cassandra only holds up her hand to stop him from talking any more. She sighs, her jaw clenching as the last thing she wanted to do was see Elijah again but she knew it had to be done.
"Fine." She snaps as she rubs her face. Damon is a little taken aback but he expected her to be a little bit angry about the plan. Cassandra takes a deep breath before heading towards his table to take something out of a small velvet box. Damon furrows his eyebrows as he glances around the room, now noticing a couple of her things placed around it.
"When did you move your stuff in?" Damon looks at the raven haired vampire who only turns to face him, holding up a blue pendant necklace. He stares at it for a moment before a confused expression forms on his face.
"I'm supposed to distract him, right? This will." Cassandra states as she holds it in her hand, staring down at it as she tries not to let any emotion flood her face.
"Did Klaus give it to you?" He asks as he notices the hostility in her eyes. Cassandra only stares at him for a moment before walking out of the room. She didn't want to tell Damon anything because then shed have to explain why she kept it all this time. Klaus had given her the necklace after they had been together for a century, it was kind of a milestone in their relationship. She wore it everyday and never took it off until the day she left him.
It symbolizes their relationship. Their love. It is their connection. In more ways than Cassandra even knows.
β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’Β°β’
CASSANDRA HADN'T EVEN REALIZED THE TIME BEFORE SHE STOPPED AND REALIZED IT WAS ALREADY SUNSET. She had been walking towards nothing for almost the whole day, her mind spinning as memories of both Klaus and Elijah flooded it. Cassandra Just needed to be rid of them. She had to get out. Klaus was gonna come eventually and soon she would have no protection. Cassandra may hate Elijah but that won't stop him from protectimg her against his brother.
Her phone ringing brings her back to reality as she lets out a sigh, taking it out of her pocket. She presses answer, believing it was Damon asking her where she was because it wasn't long before the plan with Elijah was going down. "Hello?" She answers as she rubs her face a little bit. But there was no answer on the other side. Her eyebrows furrow as Damon would've said something by now, especially this close of a time crunch. "Hello?" Cassandra says again, a little annoyed this time as she could hear the faint breathing on the other end. Whoever was there, they were pissing her off by wasting her time. "Is someone there? I can hear you breathing." She tells them as she waits impatiently for an answer. She rolls her eyes, about to hang up the phone because she wasn't about to stay on any longer.
"Hello, Love." A voice she had never expected to hear again was heard through the phone. She stops straight in her tracts, her eyes widening. "I knew I'd find you eventually." His voice sent shivers down her spine. She couldn't speak. She couldn't move. Her body felt numb. Cassandra couldn't believe what she was hearing right now. It was Klaus. She didn't know how, she didn't know what he wanted with her but she knew it wasn't good.
"H-how.-- what do you want?" Cassandra was at a loss of words as she was standing in shock. There was no way he could've gotten her phone number, no one even had it except for the people in Mystic falls and Elijah. And Elijah would never have told Klaus, they may be at an odds but he wouldn't do something like that to her.
"Nothing. Yet." Klaus informs as he lets out a sigh before clearing his throat a little bit. He didn't know why his heart fluttered a little bit, he had never ever been nervous around anyone especially her in a long time but now he had to try his hardest to not let his emotions slip through his facade. "I hear you are in possession of the doppleganger and also a little thing called the moonstone." He points out as he sits back in his chair, licking his bottom lip. Klaus was somewhat grateful of Elijah and Cassandra because they had gotten everything he needed for his sacrifice in one little town without them even knowing it.
"I don't know what you're talking about." Cassandra states as she tries to keep her voice steady. She shivers at just the sound of his breathing, it didn't seem real that she was talking to him again. They hadnt talked in over five hundred years
"Don't lie to me love, you know what happens to people who cross me." He taunts with a smirk on his lips as he glances at his hands. Klaus had no intention of hurting his love but he knew she was going to be quite difficult to try and get back in his grasp. Especially with his brother trying to swoop in and act like her saviour.
"Then it's a good thing we're not together anymore then is it?" She tells him rudely as her jaw clenches a little bit. Klaus chuckles q little bit on the other side, hearing her new set tone which she had never used with him before. He kind of liked it.
"You've gotten quite the attitude over the last couple centuries. I presume it has something to do with Katerina." Klaus states with a scowl on his lips as he thought of the Petrova girl. Katherine was on the top of his hit list of people to get rid of but he was never able to get close enough to capture her.
"I'm not telling you where she is either." Cassandra denies as she wasn't about to give up Katherine, especially since she was stuck in a place where she couldn't get out. It would be her certain death if Klaus figured that out.
"I figured not. You two are so close nowadays." Klaus says with a hint of disgust in his voice. Cassandra stays quiet for a moment, not wanting to add anything more to the conversation. "But then again, you've also gotten close to Elijah." He spits out catching her off guard for a moment. How did he know so much about her life now? Especially with Elijah, that had just happened.
"I've seen him over the centuries but that's none of your business." Cassandra tells him with a scoff, glad that he didn't know that Elijah was also dead. They couldn't afford Klaus thinking they were left completely vulnerable.
"I'm sure it isn't. But I would love to hear about how the second you left me, you jumped into bed with him." Klaus sneers as his anger gets the best of him. He had been informed of the relationship between Elijah and Cassandra and it made his blood boil. Especially when time after time, Cassandra assured him nothing was going on between then two.
"What I did after I left you is none of your damn business. Elijah and I, are none of your business." Cassandra says as she takes a deep breath. Klaus didn't say anything at first but she could practically feel the anger radiating from his body.
"You should be more careful on who you trust, he isn't the man you think he is." Klaus informs as he hated how he lost Cassandra and got all the blame when Elijah knew that he would never harm Cassandra In any way. But Elijah was just waiting for the single moment, that moment when Klaus lost his grip on the girl to finally swoop him and take her for himself. And that made Klaus want to let his brother rot in a coffin for the rest of eternity.
"Goodbye Nik." She immediately hangs up the phone, not letting him get another word in as she drops down to the floor of the forest. Cassandra could feel herself losing control, hyperventilating from the conversation. Klaus was coming for her. He was coming for Elijah too. She had basicallt signed both of their death warrants even though Elijah was already dead. He knew where she was. And she couldn't be here when he arrived.
Cassandra opens the door to the salvatore house frantically, her heart still pounding as she was still spinning from the conversation with Klaus an hour ago. She had gotten a few texts from Damon in that period of time informing her of Elijah's death and some were asking her where the hell she was but she couldn't bring herself to answer any of them. Cassandra didn't want to believe any of this was actually happening.
"Cassandra, where were you? What happened?" Damon asks as he stands up from the couch, watching the girl rush in. It had been hours since he had heard from the girl, Elijah was dead, and he had to do all the talking since Cassandra hadn't shown up to do her part. He knew something must have happened because she wanted Elijah gone just as much as they did.
"I-i went to grab some more bourbon from the grill and I got a call." Cassandra tells them, staring at all of them with wide eyes. Damon furrows his eyebrows, moving closer to the girl as she seemed a little bit unusual and "It was him, Damon. Klaus... Klaus called me." She manages to get out as she tries to catch her breath but she couldn't. She paces around the room, not being able to stand still as the thought of Klaus getting his hands on her were flooding her brain.
"He called you? How'd he even get your number?" Stefan asks before his brother has the chance. They were all shocked by the fact that Klaus had found her. He had been trying for months and now he was making progress. Making progress after they had just gotten rid of Elijah. The one who knew how to kill Klaus.
"I don't--i don't know." She stutters as she grips her hair tightly. Cassandra was physically shaking and she couldn't stop. Right now, she was wishing they never daggered Elijah because he was the only one who could ever truly protect her.
"Just calm down, okay?" Damon says before putting his hands on her cheeks, making her look him in the eyes and stopping her pacing. "Everything will be fine." He tries to assure her but the raven haired girl only shakes her head frantically. He knew where she was. It was only a matter of time before he came her. Before he killed her for betraying him.
"I don't want to die, Damon." Cassandra tells him as she wraps her arms around him. Damon gulps a little bit, allowing his arms to pull her towards him. Stefan and Elena look at each other for a moment, both feeling equally bad for the girl no matter what their past was with her.
"Shh, it's okay. I won't let that happen." Damon whispers into her ear as he holds her close. Cassandra cries into his shirt as she practically clings onto him. Stefan shares a glance with his brother, they hadn't ever see Cassandra scared of anyone. Now here she was openly crying in front of them. She was terrified of the man who they thought they were going to take out without Elijah. And if Cassandra was scared. They damn well should be too.
