But mostly Adeline thought about Caspian, she wondered if the boy thought about her as often as she thought about him. Adeline always wore his ring on her thumb, every day, every hour.
The brunette walked next to Lucy as they continued their way through the market. The people crowded infront of the different stands.
"Where's Edmund?", Lucy asked her sister as she looked up to her.
At first Adeline just shrugged with her shoulders but then she got an idea where her brother could be.
"I've got an Idea. Come with me!", the girl exclaimed before she grabbed Lucy's arm and dragged her towards a big building.
As they entered they saw Edmund was standing in a long row of men as he tried to volunteer for the war.
"Edmund you're supposed to be helping us with the groceries", Adeline said loudly on purpose as she raised her eyebrows and crossed her arms over her chest.
The man who stood behind Edmund started to laugh loudly as he pushed his head lightly and made a joke about Edmunds age.
Edmund was pretty annoyed as they walked out of the building, "Squirt! He barely had two years on me! I am a King. I have fought wars and I have led armies!"
Adeline sighed as she put the basket of vegetables on Lucy's bicycle, "But Edmund, not in this world!"
But Edmund continued to complain, "Yeah, instead I am stuck here, doing battle with Eustace Clarence Scrubb. If anyone so deserved a name."
Suddenly Lucy made a weird move, she grabbed a strand of her hair and placed it behind her ear as she looked at something interested.
"What are you doing?", Edmund asked their little sister confused.
"Nothing", Lucy quickly answered him as she looked to the ground.
"Come on then!", Lucy exclaimed as she began to push her bicycle forward.
Edmund and Adeline exchanged a confused look before they followed her.
The Siblings were currently spending their summer with their uncle, aunt and cousin in Cambridge.
Susan and Peter weren't with them, they were in the USA with their Mother and Father having fun.
As they finally arrived back home Lucy immediately brought the vegetables to the kitchen.
"Hello, Uncle Harold. We tried to find some carrots but all they had were turnip again"
"Shall I start making soup?", the teenager asked her uncle friendly as she put her jacked away.
"Aunt Alberta is on her way home", Adeline informed him but their uncle still didn't react, he just continued smoking his cigarette and reading his newspaper.
"Uncle Harold?!", Adeline asked him annoyed as she looked at the man with the newspaper.
Edmund who stood besides her streched out his tongue at their uncle.
"Father! Edmund is making faces at you!", Eustace exclaimed before he spit a ball of paper in Edmund's face.
Edmund immediately run after him as he exclaimed, "Why, you little-!"
"Father, he is going to hit me!", Eustace shouted at his father as he sat on the stairs.
"Edmund, Adeline. Look it's from Susan!", Lucy told them happyly as she held up a letter.
"I do wish you were here with us. It's been such an adventure, but nothing like our time's in Narnia. America is very exciting except we never see Father. He works so very hard. I was invited to the British Consult's tea party this week by a naval officer who happens to be very handsome. I think he fancies me", Adeline read the letter to her two younger siblings as they sat in her room.
Lucy let out a dreamily sight, "Hmm."
"It seems the Germans have made the crossing difficult right now. Times are hard. Mother hopes you three won't mind another few months in Cambridge", they all looked at each other disbelieving.
"Anothet few months!?", Lucy exclaimed shocked as she looked at Edmund who looked as shocked as her.
"How will we survive?!", the girl exclaimed dramatic.
"You're lucky. At least you two got a room together. I am stuck with mullet mouth", Edmund complained as he grabbed the letter from Adeline's hands.
"Susan and Peter are the lucky ones. off on adventures", Adeline said as she stood up and walked to the mirrow.
"Yeah, their the oldest and we're the youngest. We don't matter as much", Edmund said as he read the letter again.
"Actually, I'm the middle child", Adeline stated as she turned back to them.
"Do you think I look anything like Susan or you?", Lucy asked Adeline curious as she stood besides her looking into the mirror.
But before Adeline could answer her Edmund stood up from the bed and walked towards the painting that was on her wall.
"Have you seen this ship before?", he asked them curious.
"Yes it's very Narnia-looking, isn't it?", Lucy asked as the two as she walked towards her brother.
"Yeah. Just another reminder that we're here and not there", Edmund said as they all looked at the picture.
"There once we're three orphans who wasted their time. Believing in Narnia nursery rhymes", Eustace said as he stood in the door with an arrogant look on his face.
"Please let me hit him!", Edmund begged his sister's as he took a step forward. "No!", Adeline told him as she grabbed his arm, "Don't you ever knock?", Edmund asked the boy annoyed.
"It's my house. I will do as I please. You're just guests", the little boy answered him before he entered the room.
The three siblings turned back to the painting and eyed it again, "What's so facinating about that picture anyway?", the boy asked them as he sat on Adeline's bed.
"It's hideous", he crossed his arms over his chest.
"You won't see it form the other side of the door", Edmund told him in an angry voice.
"Edmund it looks like the water is actually moving", Adeline informed her brother as she leaned her head to the side.
"What rubbish! See? That's what happens when you read all those fanciful novels and fairy tales of yours", Eustace ranted as he still sat on the bed.
"There once was a boy called Eustace. Who read books full of facts that were useless", Edmund joked as the siblings looked at each other and smiled.
"People who read fairy tales are always the sort who become a hideous burden to people like me who read books with real information!", Eustace argued angryly with them.
Edmund turned around immediatley, "Hideous burden?!", he asked the little boy as he approched him.
Eustace jumped up from the bed, "I haven't seen you lift a finger since we have been here!", Edmund exclaimed.
Lucy and Adeline ignored them as they continued to watch the picture. "I have a mind to tell your father you stole Aunt Alberta's sweets!", they heard Edmund in the background.
The waves in the painting started to move, Adeline furrowed her eyebrows as she took a step towards the painting.
She turned to her sister, "Am I going insane?", she asked Lucy, but the girl shook her head.
"They are moving", Lucy agreed with her and right in that moment the water began to flow out of the painting and fell to the floor.
"Edmund the painting!", Adeline exclaimed but Edmund just continued to argue with Eustace.
"I found them under your bed, and you know what? I licked every one of them!", the boy told the little git.
"Urgh. I am infected with you!", the little boy exclaimed disgusted.
Now the water just began to spill out of the painting and filled the room. Adeline smiled, she had an Idea why the painting was doing that.
"Adeline do you think-?", Edmund asked his sister excited and she only nodded at him smiling.
"IT'S SOME KIND OF TRICK! STOP IT OR I WILL TELL MOTHER!", the boy warned them but the siblings just laughed and watched as the water filled the room.
"I just smash the rotten thing!", Eustace exclaimed as he grabbed the painting.
"NO, EUSTACE. NO!", Edmund screamed as they grabbed the painting and the boy.
"LET IT GO!", Adeline screamed as she grabbed the boy and tried to shake him of the painting.
"GET OFF ME!", he screamed while he started to kick them. The painting fell to the ground and the room filled with water in seconds.
The four swam towards each other and tried to reach the painting on ground but the air got low and when they reached the surface again they weren't in the little room in Cambridge anymore.
"EDMUND!", Adeline shouted for her little brother, "LUCY!", they both swam next to her in the ocean.
When they looked forward a big ship was directly coming their way.
"EUSTACE SWIM!", Lucy screamed as they tried to escape from the ship.
But they weren't fast enough and the ship came closer and closer. After a short while Adeline grew tired, she couldn't swim anymore.
But suddenly she felt two hands on her waist, "It's all right. I've got you", she heard a her well known voice next to her ear.
The girl turned her head and came face to face with Caspian who had jumped into the water to save her.
"CASPIAN!", she exclaimed as they looked at each other, "ADELINE!", the king greeted her smiling widely.
"EDMUND, IT'S CASPIAN!", Lucy shouted from next to her happyly. "Are we in Narnia?", Edmund asked them still not believing that they were back.
"Yes, you're in Narnia", Caspian answered still smiling.
"I DON'T WANNA GO!", Eustace coud be heard as a man tried to save him from the water.
Caspian and Adeline swam to the ship were they were brought on board. The King had an arm around her waist as he helped her on to the ship.
"That was thrilling!", Lucy said as they grabbed a towel. "How in the world did you end up here!?", Caspian asked them still smiling happyly.
"I have no Idea!", the little girl answered him as the two girls and he walked towards the end of the ship.
"CASPIAN!", Edmund exclaimed from the other end of the ship smiling. The King turned around and approprached the boy.
They hugged, "It's great to see you!", Edmund told him smiling.
"Great to see you!", Caspian replied as they arrived by the girls.
"Didn't you call us?", Lucy asked him curious, "No, not this time", the King answered her as he eyed Adeline still a wide smile on his face.
The brunette's hair was completely wet and she had a towel over her shoulders as she looked into his brown eyes.
"Well, whatever the case, I am just glad to be here", Edmund interrupted the moment as he smiled at Caspian.
In that moment Eustace screamed again, "GET THAT THING OFF ME!", they all turned towards the boy who laid on the ground as he tried to slap Reepicheep off him.
"Now calm down sir!", the mouse excalimed before Eustace threw him off him. "REEPICHEEP!", Adeline excalimed happyly.
"Oh, your Majesties", the mouse said as he bowed. "Hello Reep. What a pleasure", Edmund greeted thier old friend smiling.
"The pleasure is all mine, sir. But first what to do about this hysterical interloper?"
"THAT GIANT RAT THING JUST TRIED TO CLAW MY FACE Off!", Eustace screamed as he pointed to Reepicheep.
"I was merely trying to expell the water from your lungs, sir", the mouse explained to him friendly.
"IT TALKED. DID YOU SEE? DID ANYONE JUST HEAR THAT? It JUST TALKED!", he shouted with wide eyes.
"He always talks. It's getting him to shut up, that's the trick", Caspian explained to him as he still gazed at Adeline.
"The moment there is nothing to be said, your Highness I promise you, I will not at it", the mouse promised his King honestly.
The King smiled at him, "I DON'T KNOW WHAT KIND OF PRANK THIS IS, BUT I WANT TO WAKE UP IMMEDIATELY!", Eustace screamed at them hysterical.
"Perhaps we could throw him back?", Reepicheep asked them curious.
Adeline looked at him as she muttered under her breath, "That's okay with me."
Edmund chuckled and Lucy hit her arm, "ADI!", she exclaimed shocked.
"I DEMAND TO KNOW, JUST WHERE IN THE BLAZES AM I?!", the boy screamed at the people.
"You're on the Dawn trader. The finest ship in Narnia's navy", a taurus explained to him proudly.
And that was to much for the boy so he fainted.
"Was it something I said?"
Caspian smiled amused, "See to him, will you?", the king asked him friendly.
"Your Majesty"
Caspian quickly jumped onto the stairs, "Men! Behold our castaways Edmund the Just, Lucy the Valliant and Adeline the generous are, high King and Queen's of Narnia!"
They immediatley all kneeled down for them. It felt good to be back at Narnia.
"I will show you your rooms. There you can change into some new clothes", the King told them as he led them inside the ship.
Adeline was the last one who was shown to her room, Caspian and her walked next to each other as they continued to walk down the hallway.
Adeline wanted to say something but she didn't knew what. So long she had hoped to see him again but now that he was walking next to her she was unsure how he felt about her.
"So, how-"
"I see-"
They both started at the same time but stopped as they shyly looked at each other.
"You first", Caspian smiled at her, Adeline chuckled , "You've become a great King", she said as she smiled at Caspian. "I mean you've grew in general", she blushed as she looked to the ground.
The King looked at her smiling, which made Adeline blush even harder.
"You've grew too, and if I'm allowed to say so, you've become even more beautiful than before", Caspian said as he put his hands behind his back.
After a while they stopped infront of a door, that would be Adeline's room for her time there.
An hour later Adeline met with the other's in Caspian's study room. The King had changed into new robes and so had Adeline and her siblings.
The Pevensie's walked through the room looking around.
"Look, Adeline, it's your Bow, Sword and Arrows", Lucy exclaimed as she stood before Adeline's stuff.
"Lucy!", Caspian called her from the others side of the room, "My healing cordialamd dagger", the girl said as she wanted to grabb them.
But she stopped, "Oh, may I?", she questioned him but Caspian looked at her confused, "Of course, they're yours."
Lucy grabbed her stuff while Edmund approched the sword that laid in the other corner, "Peter's sword", he said excited.
"Yes, I looked after it as promised", Caspian told him, he held the sword up for Edmund to take, "Here, hold it if you wish", the king told him.
"No, no. It's yours. Peter gave it to you", Edmund said with an disappointed and jealous look on his face.
Adeline watched as Caspian grabbed Edmund's old Flashlight and threw it at him.
Edmund catched it and turned it on, "Thank's", he said in an rather disappointed voice.
Caspian grabbed a map and laid it on the table, "Since you left, the Giants of the North surrendered unconditionally. Then we defeated the Valorem armies at the Great Desert. There is peace across all of Narnia", Caspian told them as he pointed at the Map.
"Peace?", Edmund asked surprised as he looked at the map and then at Caspian.
"In just three years", Caspian told him proudly, Adeline walked towards the window and looked outside.
"And have you found yourself a queen in those three years?", Lucy asked him interested as she pushed a strand of hair behind her ear.
Caspian smirked slightly, "No", he answered but he leaned forward and whispered, "Not one to compare with your sister."
Adeline didn't turned around, but a smirk made it's way on to her face as she heard what the King had whispered.
Lucy smiled as well while she looked at the back of her sister, knowing that she had eavesdroped.
"Hang on. If there are no wars to fight and no one is in trouble, then why are we here?", Adeline suddenly asked him as she turned around.
"It's a good question. I have been asking myself the same thing", Caspian answered her as he looked at the map.
"So where are we sailing to?", Edmund asked curious, "Before I took back the throne from my uncle he tried to kill my father's closest friends and most loyal supporters", the King explained as he turned around to a couple of drawings on the wall behind him.
They all stepped next to him, "The seven lords of Telmar. They fled to the Lone Islands", he tapped at the map again, "No one has heard from them since", Caspian explained to them.
"So you think something happened to them?", Adeline asked him, "Well, if it has, it's my duty to find out", he answered the high Queen worried.
"Well, what's east of the Line island?", Lucy aksed him as she tapped at the island on the map.
"Unchared waters. Things you can barely imagine. Tales of sea serpents and worse", the sailor who stood by the door told her.
"Sea serpents?", Edmund asked him chuckling, "All right Captain, that's enough of your tall tales", Caspian told him as he bit in to an apple.
