A tall boy with raven hair and tan skin carried a gun in his hands as he anxiously stepped back and forth between his left and right foot. He looked to be about nineteen. His hair fell over his forehead and he had small freckles that were speckled around his face. His chest was huffed out and his chin was up in faux confidence.
He looked to be guarding a door and he waited for the other guards to walk by him before he entered. When he walked in, a familiar looking girl was seen, she sat on her bed with her head down, her raven hair covering her face. She had lone tears falling. She quickly wiped them before anyone saw. Crying is for the weak, they would always tell her.
Aife.
"Hey, I'm gonna get you out of here okay? I won't let anything happen to you." The tall boy crouched down in front of her before she flung her arms around his neck. She sniffled into his shoulder and he rubbed her back with one hand and had another hand buried in her hair as he held her.
"I love you,"
He pulled back from the hug, and tucked strand of hair behind her ear and gave her a sad smile, as if trying to convince her she would be alright. Although, it seemed he was trying to convince himself more than her.
"I love you too." She replied as she hugged him once more.
The memory flashed.
It was Aife.
She had blood coating her face as she was surrounded by multiple armed men. Ten to be exact. She had a large sword in her hand. Gripped so tightly on the handle her knuckles were almost white.
Three men lay dead on the floor, the blood that was streaming down their body was almost satisfying. The guards shuddered at the sight. Who would have thought this young girl would turn against them so violently.
"Choose!" She spoke through gritted teeth, loudly and confidently, causing the men to get chills. However, needed decided to stand strong. She needed them to pick. They are either with her, or against her. There was no in-between. There was no longer a young girl behind her eyes, that was a monster.
A monster that was long past saving.
They all came at her, each and everyone of them falling to the ground, at her hands.
She wore a wicked, chilling grin on her face as more blood coated her face.
She's was a natural.
A natural born leader.
A true warrior.
The image changed again.
The tall boy was discreetly escorting Aife to the lab so he could quickly send her up into the maze. He wouldn't allow them to kill her. She didn't deserve what was coming.
She didn't deserve a death sentence.
He cupped her cheeks as he knelt down to her level.
"I can promise you, i will be here for you when you get out, okay?"
Thats if I get out, she thought to herself.
He could see that she was scared, tears pooled in her eyes as she gripped onto his bicep. She frantically nodded buried her face into his neck as he brought her into a hug.
"May we meet again."
Sitting up with a loud gasp, Aife looked at her surroundings, only to see she was in the Med-jack hut. Safe and sound. She let out a sigh and ran her bloodied hands through her loosely braided hair and watched as Clint and Jeff turned around to face her, jumping and placing a hand on their chest.
"Damn! Don't scare me like that!" Jeff exclaimed. She let out a small huff, and a passive aggressive smile pulled at her lips, before she allowed it to fall.
"How long was i out?" She questioned and they gave a shrug and responded, "Only a day and a half."
She nodded and sat up, she tried to stand up only to have a hand on her chest gently push her aching body back onto the bed.
"No."
"W-what do you mean no?" She said with confusion lacing her voice. She pinched her eyebrows together as she waited for a response. Aife leaned on her elbows. He let out a deep sigh and spoke confidently.
"I mean no. I get that you have a job but you can't do it until you're fully healed, we can't risk re-injury. We need someone to lead us and if you don't get better they'll give up hope and we can't afford that-"
"Okay! Okay, i get it." She cut off clint, and the chubby boy gave a sheepish smile as he rubbed the back of his neck. Clint was known for his dramatics, it was quite amusing, really.
Just not now.
"What he means is, you need to rest. I'm sure the greenie can wait." Jeff explained and she shook her in denial that caused the two males to sigh, their shoulders slumping in disappointment.
"No. Clint, you were right. I've got a job to do. I won't run for a couple days, alright? I'll rest. But i need to do my job. Thanks boys." She said as she patted their shoulders before leaving. The girl quickly made her way to her room to change her clothes.
She walked over her knife that had somewhat of a reflection and let out a sigh at her appearance. Not that she could see that well, but her face was red, probably due to her screaming while she was unconscious. No one was sure why that happened. But, some of the boys had created a rumor to scare the greenies.
' The pain is so bad, that its equivalent to being tortured in hell '.
Aife had never shut down the rumor, she thought it was rather humorous to see the look on the new comers faces. She grimaced at her reflection. There were fresh cuts that coated her old ones. Twice as deep.
Im Still cute though, she told herself.
She walked over to the other side of her room and put on a textured midieval armor re-enactment and put on olive jeans to go with it. She added combat boots and viking styled wrist guards.
She's not exactly not sure why they send up the stuff they do for her. But she's not complaining.
While she put a small throwing knife in her back pocket, she let out a deep sigh. She was exhausted.
She walked back over to the larger knife that she saw her reflection in and put her make up on. It was black all around her eyes and she brought her fingers to drag it down to her defined cheeks. She put her hair half up half down and put a fish tale braid down the middle, as well as tiny braids on the side.
When she opened the door, she looked to see Minho and Newt talking. It looked pretty serious, so she walked over and interrupted them.
"Hey boys." The shorter girl grinned at them and they turned to her with a smiled. She felt glad to be walking around again. They needed her. Clearly, because people aren't focused on their jobs. They are fooling around. Alby seems to be doing a good job so far, though.
"My girl is back! You look like hell," Minho exclaimed as he looked her up and down. She playfully rolled her eyes and sent a glare his way.
"How do you feel?" Newt asked the tanned skinned girl, his face scrunched up due to the sun that was beaming down on them. His tone was genuine, compared to Minho's
"You mean other than the fact that i just nearly died? Great." She replied sarcastically causing Minho to snort rather loudly, "Yup, she's back."
Newt sent her a knowing look and she sighed and spoke again, "You know I'll be alright. I always am."
He raised an eyebrow skeptically before he bid the two goodbye, so he could get back to work. He had informed Aife that Minho came back from the maze slightly early to speak to him and the greenie.
"You need to get them under control," Minho said as he pointed to a group of boys that were slacking off. She could tell things were getting heated, they were shooting each other glares and making unnecessary commentary.
She turned back to Minho and nodded, "Alright. I'll see ya' 'round." She said, she then thwacked him over the head and walked away. Not before hearing him mumble a 'ow' as he rubbed his head.
As she approached the boys they didn't see her walking towards them, causing her to roll her eyes in annoyance. She noticed Alby headed over to the crowd of boys as well, clearly about to give up on trying to get them under control. His expression was clearly showing exhaustion.
"Hey!" She shouted at them, they flinched back and tensed at the sound of the girls voice. They quickly turned around and shuffled into a stiffened and sheepish stance. Some wore a grin, happy that she was back, and others wore a shocked face to see that she had been back so soon.
She looked at each of the boys with a glade, knowing full well it sent shivers down their spine. From the time shes been here, shes mastered that look.
"You're back! Hey Aife." A glader, Andrew, spoke as he rubbed the back of his neck while he gnawed on his bottom lip.
"Yeah. I am. And you idiots are over here arguing when you should've been finished with you're jobs by now and eating Frypans food." The shorter girl scolded them as she stood confidently, as always, her chin up with her arms at her side in fists. Frypan stood by the kitchen, his hands on his hips as he shook his head in disapproval, silently agreeing with the girls words.
They quickly nodded and walked off. One of the gladers was too slow. She caught him before he could get away from her. She grabbed his forearm harshly and glared up at him. She squinted her eyes as he avoided eye contact.
"You think i didn't notice you?" She narrowed my eyes and spoke to him.
"Yeah, whatever. You should've heard what those slintheads were saying-"
"Gally, you know better. Now go." She said as she let his arm go. She had always told him not to get involved in silly little fights like that, she needed him to be a role model. Not provoke the boys. He sped up and walked over to the kitchens as she turned to Alby who wore an amused grin on his face, causing her to furrow her own eyebrows
"What?" She asked him, clearly confused on what he found so interesting.
"You've got them all wrapped around you're finger. You know that right? They respect you so much." He replied as she smirked proudly.
"What can i say." She shrugged innocently. She furrowed her eyebrows as she spoke, "Hey, wheres that new greenie?"
"Oh, him. He's nervous to meet you. He's just nervous in general, at that. He klunked his pants three times on the way up."
"What? Nervous? Why?" She asked him with an amused grin on her face as she humored him. Although, her grin quickly fell when he spoke up again.
"Minho tried to scare him off. He described you so horribly, i almost feel bad for the kid. I shoulda' known he wouldve done that." Hs chuckled and she rolled her eyes.
"Oh well, take me to him, will ya'?" She asked him and he nodded. They started to walk towards the kitchen and she came across an unfamiliar boy. He was short and had flushed, chubby cheeks. He looked to be on the bigger side and he had some brown curls and a greasy head of hair. He looked to be about thirteen.
Too young.
He doesn't deserve to be here. No one does, she said to herself.
He looked up at her an his eyes widened in fear and shock, "You're a girl!"
She let out a scoff and slowly nodded, "Yeah."
Alby placed a hand on his back as he spoke to chuck, "Chuck, this is Aife. She's in charge of things. And she's pretty damn good at it too. Respect her and you'll be good." He said and chuck nodded as he grinned wildly.
' Doesn't look nervous to me. ' Aife thought to herself.
She grabbed a sandwich from Frypan who greeted her back by saying, "hey! welcome back. Today's special is frank, our favorite piggy! Thank Winston for that one."
She let out an obnoxious snort that caused him to laugh at her.
She took the sand which back to her room and scoffed it down just before she laid down. She then fell asleep and woke up to an extremely, unfortunate event.
