Since Thomas is now a runner, Minho and Aife decided to show him the map room and why they haven't gotten anywhere without his help. "Hey, Thomas." She waved for him to follow her into the deadheads and they ran over to the hut that was made of sticks.
When she entered, there was a table with a large cloth covering what was underneath, "Yeah, what's up?" He asked them. She nodded her head for Minho to show him and he ripped off the cloth, causing her to clench her jaw at the sight.
"It's the maze." Minho nodded.
It was a mini-representation of the maze. They've been mapping it for years. they made it out of a ton of tiny sticks.
"All of it." Aife added after him with a sigh.
Thomas stopped and furrowed his eyebrows with a confused expression, "What do you mean 'all of it' i thought you were still mapping it?"
"There's nothing left to map." Minho mumbled and she nodded.
"I've run every inch of it myself, every cycle, every pattern, if there was a way out we would have found it by now." The raven headed girl muttered to them who sat in silence as they listened to her words.
"Why haven't you told anyone this?" Thomas stammered as he pointed to the small maze on the table.
"It was Aife's call." Minho sighed as she nodded slowly, Thomas gave the girl a small nod. That's when she spoke up, "People needed to believe we have a chance of getting out. But maybe now, we actually have a real chance."
"Yeah, Take a look at this," Minho decided to point to the maze as he spoke, "About a year ago, we started exploring these outer sections. Alright, we found these numbers, they're printed on the walls. Sections one- through eight. See the way it works, is every night, when the maze changes, it opens up a new section."
Aife began to speak once more, "So today, section six was open. Tomorrow, it'll be four and eight and three- The pattern, always stays the same."
Thomas was fidgeting with the odd device they had found inside the griever, "Whats so special about seven?"
"I don't know. Last night when you killed that griever, Section seven was open. I think it must be where it comes from." Minho explained as Thomas thought to himself.
"Tomorrow, the three of us are gonna take a closer look." Aife smirked as she held a mischievous glint in her eyes.
"Al-"
"Hey! Aife!" Aife heard Jeff panting as he walked into the map room which made the girl furrow her eyebrows with a confused expression.
"What's up? You're not allowed in here." She muttered softly and he gave them a sheepish smile as he ran his hand through messy hair.
"It's the girl. She's awake."
The trio ran out to the rest of the gladers to see them surrounding the look-out-tree while holding large objects over their heads to hide from the flying ones.
"Chuck, what's going on?" Aife asked as she slowed down her breathing from the running. He was giggling and holding his stomach.
"Oh, man, girls are awesome." Aife stifled a laugh at some of the boys comments.
"Come down!"
"We come in piece."
"Hey!"
"Listen if you throw one more of those- Ow!" Gally said, his sentence was cut off as he got hit over the head with a rock.
She couldn't help but feel bad for the girl, she's surrounded by thirsty boys who wont leave her alone and she has no memory, just like the rest of them. But something is off about the new girl. The familiarity.
"Leave me alone!" She shouted as she threw down a large rock.
"I'm warning you!" She shouted, her voice slightly louder than the last time.
"Take cover y'all! Take cover." Frypan said dramatically.
"I don't think she likes us very much." Newt grimaced.
That's when Aife decided to make her presence known. She walked closer and was able to dodge the rocks that were being tossed over the edge, "Hey,It's Aife! It's Aife!" The scarred girl shouted and the greenie immediately stopped tossing rocks. She peaked her head out and made eye contact with Aife before shyly hiding herself again.
"Okay, i'm gonna come up okay?" She said slowly, making sure she understood. Aife turned around and saw Thomas following her.
"Okay- Just me and Thomas." The girl ordered and Gally gave them a shocked and annoyed look at the same time, but softened when he met with Aifes pleading gaze. He knew he was making it difficult for her, and he was beginning to feel bad for putting more pressure on the girl.
They climbed up the steps and were immediately greeted with a large knife that caused Aife to scoff and put her hands up in surrender.
"Woah... Okay, just, easy, alright?" She gripped the knife tighter as she waved it around, her knees were tucked into her chest as she backed away as far as she could.
"Where am i? What is this place? Why can't i remember anything?" She blurted tons of questions at once causing Aife to fight back an eye roll due to the fact that she wasn't even giving them enough time to answer them, but then again, she was in the same position as her.
"We've all been through this, okay? And you're gonna get you're name back in-"
"Teresa" She cut her off and Aife pinched her eyebrows.
"What?"
"My name, It's Teresa." She repeated once more, her eyebrows mirrored Aifes as she scanned the tanned girls face. She had yet to put the knife down. She most likely stole it from Frypans kitchen.
"Okay- Okay Teresa uh, Im Thomas and this is Aife. But you already knew that?" Thomas spoke out at her.
"They said i kept saying you're names in my sleep. Who are you?" She asked once more. Aife let out a deep sigh as she closed her eyes while Thomas answered. She had almost forgotten how difficult it is to deal with a greenie, but she had to be patient.
"I-I don't know. I cant remember. Okay? None of us here can remember, Anything. We all woke up here just like you did." He told her calmly and Aife slowly inched her hand towards the large knife she had pointed at them.
"Okay, i'm gonna take this, Okay?" The girl slowly grabbed the newbies hand and got the weapon in her grasp, then removed it from her small hand and set it down by her own side.
"Okay, That's it. Yeah?" Aife calmed her down as she noticed she seemed less tense than before. But she still had her guard up. The other gladers were simply waiting for the three of them to come down, but they waved them off and told them to get back to work.
Now Aife needed to figure out Why she said their names and what she remembers. Because she knows damn well that she knows more than she's letting on.
