Episode 5 Part 1

โ˜ฝ

"HEY OLD LADY wanna watch a movie?"

Fallen frowns as she stares at her annoying niece who stands in her bedroom doorway.

"I'm not old you brat. And yes I do."

"Great what were you thinking?" Luna smiles as she jumps onto her aunts bed.

"Hmm romance?"

They both stare at each other before scrunching up their faces in disgust, "Nah."

Luna rubs her chin in thought, "Comedy?"

"Don't feel like laughing."

"Well that's kind of morbid."

"Thriller..."

"I could scream."

"Great thriller it is."

Luna looks up at her aunt smiling mischievously, "So you got money?"

Fallen rolls her eyes slapping Luna's arm, "You little con artist. Look in my purse."

"Thanks Auntie!!"

"Screw you."

...

A fuming Jackson enters the video store, searching for The Notebook. But going row to row and passing by the now empty ladder and replacement bulbs, he can't seem to find it.

"Can somebody help me find The Notebook?"

He glances around.

No response.

No one at the cash register.

"The Notebook really?"

He jumps as he sees Luna appear out of nowhere from behind an aisle.

"It's for Lydia."

"Mhmm sure."

"It is... where's the freaking staff?"

Luna frowns looking around, "Yeah I have no idea. I've been looking around the front waiting for someone to help."

Jackson sighs, "Hello? Anybody working here? Anybody at all?"

It seems there's not a single other person in the store. Turning back to the shelves, he begins thumbing the DVD's when he spots something. Through the wire frame of the shelf, Jackson sees two shoes on the floor, toes pointed upward.

He lets the DVD's fall back. Hand now trembling, he slowly steps left. Inching around the corner of the shelf, he sees the two shoes and now just a bit of the legs.

"Jackson?" Luna asks as she watches him slowly and cautiously take steps away.

He holds up a hand silencing her, "J-just stay there..."

Someone is lying on the floor on the other side of the shelf. Chest rising with ever shortening breathes, Jackson takes another step. And then another, finally discovering the Clerk who lies dead on the floor.

Blood everywhere.

"Jackson what's wrong?"

Jackson staggers back and tumbles right into the ladder. It goes down, wires snapping with it as a spark flies from the light fixture. With an electric crackling, all of the lights flicker and die, plunging the store into darkness.

"Jackson!" Luna whisper shouts not seeing anything.

She walks forward reaching around in the darkness touching aisles. Suddenly, she trips over something and falls to the ground into a wet puddle.

"What the-"

A hand goes over her mouth making her squeal in surprise.

"Shhh..."

The sound of movement echoes throughout the video store as shelves rattle, DVD cases trembling as something large moves behind it. Whatever it is, it's between him and the exit.

Jackson takes his hand off Luna's mouth and whispers to her, "Something's in here. Be as quiet as possible."

Luna nods before watching him crouch behind a shelf, trying to steady his near hyperventilating breaths. Slowly, he peers up above the stacks of DVD's when one of the shelves rock forward. Like dominoes, they begin falling toward him, DVD's flying through the air.

Jackson pushes Luna out the aisle then moves to dart out of the way, but one of the shelves slams down on his back, pinning his body to the floor.

"Shit..." Luna mumbles as she tries to push the shelf off him as quiet as can be.

"Luna stop, get out of here."

"No. I may not like you and you piss me off sometimes... a lot of the time. But I'm not leaving you for dead."

"Listen to me, get out of here now!"

"Jackson..."

"Now!"

Luna groans angrily then runs to hide behind the other aisle of shelves. As she hears steps, she goes to hide at the opposite end of the aisle.

Jackson sighs in relief as Luna hides, he tries to push himself up just as a shadow falls over him. He holds still as the store becomes ominously quiet and something growls mere inches from the back of his head.

A clawed hand reaches over the nape of his neck where the marks from when Derek punctured his skin are still visible. Yellowish and scabbed, the marks look infected. Jackson shudders as the tips of the Alpha's claws graze his skin, pulling back and lifting up as if preparing to strike.

Luna sees this and mutters a spell making the sprinklers go off. Water sprays down making the creature huff. Almost as if it knew, the creature looks down the empty aisle where Luna was hiding and shakes it's head before running away from Jackson.

Inside Jackson's Porsche outside the video store, Lydia raises her camera phone still recording videos of herself. Suddenly, the stores' glass window explodes. Fragments shower the lot as a black shape hurtles past Jackson's car.

Lydia spins around with the camera phone still clutched in her hand, her wide eyes staring off through the window letting out a high pitched scream.

Inside the video store the lights flicker on and off making Luna stand up. She glances into the window nearby frowning at her appearance. She was soaking wet not only in water but this red substance that was running off her skin. Walking backwards staring ahead in fear, wondering what it was that she was covered in, Luna out of nowhere trips over what she did earlier. Luna frowns looking down then lets out a horrified scream as she sees a torn apart slashed body.

...

Sheriff Stilinski drives while Stiles searches through fast food bags.

"Did they forget my curly fries?"

Stiles shakes his head, "You're not supposed to eat fries. Especially the curly ones."

Noah glances at his son with a frown, "I am carrying a lethal weapon. If I want the curly fries, I will have the curly fries."

"If you think getting rid of contractions in your sentences makes your argument any more legitimate, you are wrong."

Before Stilinski can respond, the radio buzzes to life.

"Unit One, do you copy?"

Father and son reach for the CB at the same instant, hands knocking into each other. Stilinski throws a look.

Stiles smiles sheepishly, "Force of habit."

"Unit One, copy."

"Got a report of a possible 187."

Stiles looks up while stuffing a handful of his father's fries into his mouth. He knows exactly what a 187 is.

"A murder?"

...

Lights flashing, Stilinski's car roars into the lot, pulling up next to two other Deputy Sheriff cruisers.

Stilinski turns to his son, "Stay here."

He hurries out to confer with his Deputies. Stiles sits impatiently while taking in the store's shattered window, the knocked over shelves and... Lydia and Jackson being led out.

"No. Way."

Stilinski turns from a crowd of bystanders to his officers, "Get this place locked off."

Stiles gets out the car and slowly pushes his way through the crowd, "Lydia?"

She doesn't seem to hear him or see him while a deputy guides her and an irate Jackson to a police car.

"I don't need to go to the hospital. I'm fine."

Noticing the commotion, Stilinski heads over while leaving his other Deputies to keep the onlookers back.

"Why the hell can't I just go home?"

Noah frowns, "I'm sorry, but the EMT's tell me you hit your head pretty hard and they need to make sure you don't have a concussion"

"What part of I'm fine are you failing to grasp here? I want to go home."

"I understand-"

"No, you don't understand. Which kind of blows my mind since it should be a pretty basic concept for a minimum wage rent-a-cop like you. I just want to go home!"

He realizes everyone is watching, pity in their eyes. Including Stiles, who is clearly not happy about the rent-a-cop line. Until something else catches his eye.

"Hey, is that a dead body?"

The throng of onlookers rushes forward. Stilinski throws an angry glare at his son who shrinks back into the shadows. He glances back at Lydia once more before a certain brunette catches his eye.

"Luna..."

He walks through the crowd towards the EMT's and sees a still Luna covered in blood sitting on a gurney inside the ambulance.

"Luna..."

Luna glances over at Stiles with teary eyes, "Stiles?... I wanna go home... can I go home yet?"

"Yeah hold on a second okay."

Luna nods watching him disappear then looks down at her trembling hands that are covered in someone else's blood.

Stiles runs over to his dad making Noah look up at his son in question, "What?"

"Luna... she was inside. What happened?"

"We don't know yet. Lydia is in shock, Luna hasn't spoken once, and Jackson is well Jackson. We're going to look at the cameras and see, but right now we got nothing son."

Stiles sighs rubbing his face. Noah looks at his son and pats his shoulder.

"She's going to be fine Stiles. How about you go take her home."

Stiles nods before hurrying back to Luna. She glances up as she hears him and looks at him with anticipating eyes.

"We can go?"

"Yeah give me your keys."

Luna grabs her bag and reaches inside to find the keys. Handing them to Stiles, he then grabs her hand and helps her out the truck.

While all eyes focus on the video store, no one notices the roof above where Scott peers over the ledge. Turning back around, he slumps down as Derek comes forward.

"Starting to get it?"

Scott frowns, "I get that he's killing people. But I don't get why. I mean this isn't standard practice, right? We don't just go out in the middle of the night murdering everyone, do we?"

"No. We're predators but we don't have to be killers."

"So why's he a killer?"

Derek looks at Luna being helped into a car by Stiles with a frown. Whoever the alpha was just put her in danger and he wasn't happy about it.

"That's what we're going to find out."

...

Luna sniffles as she scrubs her arms. The red tint of the blood had officially stained her tanned skin. Her hand covers her mouth as she lets out a sob.

KNOCK KNOCK

"Luna are you okay? Wait never mind that's a stupid question... don't answer that."

Luna lays her head on the shower tile as she closes her eyes, "I'm fine..."

"Whenever someone says they're fine...usually they're not fine."

Smiling, Luna turns off the water and steps out the shower. She wraps herself in a towel after drying off then stands staring at herself in the mirror.

Sniffling again she looks over her face and whispers to herself, "You're so weak."

"Luna..."

Silence.

"Alright I'm coming in."

The door opens slowly revealing a tall lanky boy holding his arms out in front of him slowly walking inside.

Luna smiles staring at him, "What are you doing?"

"I'm making sure you're okay."

"No, I mean what are you wearing?"

Stiles points to her scarf that had been tied around his eyes, "Oh this? I just found it in your closet. I didn't want you to think I'm a creep. We're friends... I wanted to make sure you were truly okay."

"Thanks Stiles."

"Anytime."

...

Taking his seat, Stiles looks for Scott, but there's no sign of him. Mr. Harris, lights the Acetylene torch at his desk.

"Just a friendly reminder: Parent/Teacher conferences are tonight. Students below a C average are required to attend. I won't name you since the shame and self-disgust should be more than enough punishment. And has anyone seen Scott McCall?"

No one responds.

The door opens and in comes Jackson and Luna, something slightly off about them.

Everyone watches.

Harris crosses to Jackson.

"Jackson, if you need to leave early for any reason... You let me know. You as well Luna."

The boy just glares at him, annoyed by the pity. Luna rolls her eyes slapping the angry boy's shoulder before smiling lightly at Mr. Harris.

"Thank you, we appreciate it."

Mr. Harris nods and walks up to the front of the class as Luna sits beside Stiles at the lab table. She sits shaking her knee making Stiles place his hand on her leg. She stops and looks over at him with a grateful smile.

"Sorry..."

Stiles nods then grabs his highlighter opening his textbook.

"Everyone, start reading Chapter Nine. And Mr. Stilinski try putting the highlighter down between paragraphs. It's Chemistry. Not a coloring book."

Stiles tilts his head up and spits his cap out his mouth into the ceiling before catching it in his hand and re-capping his highlighter. Luna chuckles at his childish antics then starts to read her textbook. Stiles on the other hand leans towards Danny who is sitting in front of him.

"Danny? Can I ask you a question?"

Danny frowns, "No."

"I'm going to anyway. Did Lydia show up in your homeroom today?"

"No."

"Can I ask you another question?"

"Answer still no."

"Do people know what happened to her and Jackson last night?" Stiles whispers as quiet as can be not knowing Luna had heightened hearing.

He didn't want her to have an episode in the middle of class. He knew she wasn't okay still and didn't want to ask her anything about what happened.

"He wouldn't tell me."

"But you're his best friend."

Danny shrugs.

"One more question?"

Danny frowns annoyed, "What?"

"Do you find me attractive?"

Danny just stares ahead confused as Stiles leans forward more and more until he falls out his chair.

Luna laughs into her hand making Stiles frown at her and sit back into his chair.

"You're such a klutz."

...

Steam pours into the locker room from the showers post gym class while the boys get ready for next period.

Jackson heads from the showers to his locker. Only when he begins to pull his things out does he notice that the room is now empty.

Dripping faucets and clanging pipes accompany a thick steam billowing from the shower room.

Shutting his locker, Jackson pauses. Slowly, he gazes back to find two glowing red eyes coming toward him through the steam.

He steps back, hand moving to his neck where the puncture marks from Derek are still visible. The glowing red eyes come closer and closer to Jackson and just as he's about to bolt a student steps through the steam, revealing the two red eyes are illuminated headphones stuck in his ears. As the Student exits, Jackson lets out a relieved breath and turns back to his locker when Derek enters.

Jackson stumbles back, almost falling over the bench, "Okay, all right, I don't know where Scott is. I haven't seen him-"

"I'm not here for Scott. I'm here for you, Jackson."

He flinches at the sound of his own name, retreating until his back hits the wall.

"Me? Why me? I didn't do anything."

"But you saw something. Didn't you?"

"Saw what? When?"

Derek rolls his eyes, "Last night-"

"What? No. I didn't see anything, I swear."

"All I want to know is what you saw. Was it an animal? A mountain lion?"

"I don't know. I'm not lying. I swear to God."

"Then calm down and say it again."

Jackson looks at Derek confused, "What? That I'm not lying?"

"The other part. Tell me you didn't see anything. Slowly."

"Why do you care?"

Derek continues to stare blankly, "Calm down and say the words."

Jackson takes a deep breath.

"I didn't see anything."

Sound fades as Derek listens intently to Jackson's heartbeat. All Derek can hear is the rhythmic rise of his heartbeat.

"I'm not lying."

But Derek doesn't retreat. Instead, he takes a step closer.

"I know."

"One more thing..."

He puts his hand on top of Jackson's head. The boy squeezes his eyes shut as if waiting for his neck to be snapped. But Derek simply turns Jackson's head around to get a look at the infected claw marks on his neck.

"You should really get that checked out."

Jackson lets out a gasp. His eyes flutter open. And once again...

He's alone in the locker room.

Derek finds Luna walking out the girls restroom and quickly pulls her into an empty classroom.

"What the hell- Derek what are you doing here?"

"Talking to Jackson. How are you?"

"I'm fine D-"

She stops speaking as Derek points to her heart. Sighing, she looks up at his concerned stare.

"I'm okay... still shaken but I'll live."

Derek stares at her for a moment, almost as if he were analyzing the blank stare on her face. His hand reaches up to caress the side of her face.

"What's going on in your head?"

"What do you mean?"

"Your face shows stress and worry. You can't hide that. No matter how much you try."

"I just... I felt weak. And useless... I didn't do anything. Jackson could've died and I hid."

"He told you to. That's what you told me and you know what I would've told you the same exact thing. You know why?"

Luna shakes her head as Derek caresses her cheek.

"Because people do actually care about you. Whether you want them to or not."

...

Quiet.

Serene.

Burnt to a crisp.

Kate steps forward with three hunters behind her. The first is handsome, an experienced hunter with a disquieting stillness about him. His name, Leveque. The second is Ulrich, a tightly muscled little guy in his twenties who looks like he's dying to kill something, anything. The third... Emerson.

"He wants us to wait."

Kate frowns staring at Leveque, "So I've been reminded. To death."

"And that means we're not allowed to kill him." Ulrich states.

"But it doesn't mean we can't say hello."

A bare and very muscular torso moves up and down. It's Derek doing chin-ups from an exposed beam on the ceiling. Luna sits on a loveseat nearby staring at him in awe.

What could she say her boyfriend was hot.

He drops down and starts pumping out push-ups and then stops halfway between a push-up, with his down turned head peering over at Luna who quickly looks at her phone.

"It's okay to stare. Makes me happy that you find me attractive."

Luna rolls her eyes, "Who wouldn't?"

"True..." he shrugs as he stands up and makes his way over to her.

Leaning down he pecks her lips once. She groans in annoyance as he pulls away then wraps her arms around his neck.

"You tease."

Derek chuckles before kissing her again. Just as the kiss begins to grow intense Derek freezes, muscles tensed.

"What?"

He shushes Luna looking to his left before yanking her up out of the seat and running into the kitchen. He holds a finger to her lips before stepping by the open doorframe that led to a small walkway beside the stairs.

The door bursts open making Luna jump slightly.

Kate calmly walks in, followed by Leveque and Ulrich. The space where Derek was just working out is now empty.

"No one home?" Emerson asks as he walks inside looking around.

"Oh he's here. He's just not feeling particularly hospitable."

"Maybe he's out burying a bone in the backyard."

As he laughs at his own joke, Kate gives a withering look.

"Really? A dog joke? We're going there and that's the best you've got?"

He stops smiling.

"You want to provoke him? Try something like... Too bad your sister bit it before she had her first litter."

The others nod, liking where she's going. Luna glances over at Derek who grows angry twitching in fury. She shakes her head at him giving him a worried look

"Too bad she howled like a bitch..." Kate turns to the house itself yelling out, "When we cut her in half."

Derek hurtles out of the darkness with a growl of rage. Ulrich draws a gun, but in the blink of an eye, it's out of his hand and he's tumbling to the floor.

Kate watches with a slight smile at her lips, enjoying it.

Derek looks up with teeth fully fanged and leaps toward Leveque. A moment later, the man's unconscious body drops to the floor, rolling to Kate's feet.

Now Derek goes for her.

She stands still as if waiting to be pummeled. And then with a flick of her wrist she has something in her hands, a telescoping stun baton, which crackles with an electric spark. She spins it up and touches it to Derek's skin as he hurtles toward her.

Derek crashes to the floor, muscles flinching and trembling out of control. Kate slowly walks over.

"Wow. This one grew up in all the right places."

Luna clenches her fists together. She was furious. She knew if she did anything Derek would be mad at her, but she also knew this was the second time someone around her would be hurt and she was hiding... this wasn't going to be like last time.

Kate walks around Derek, eyeing the muscles as Emerson walks around slowly. He sees a phone on the loveseat nearby.

Grabbing it he notices how familiar it looks. Pressing a button he sees the wallpaper and immediately frowns.

Fallen and Luna.

As Kate is distracted he pockets the phone and looks around hoping Luna was no where around at the moment.

"I don't know whether to kill it. Or lick it."

As she waves the baton over his eyes, Derek stares at her with absolute hatred. Seething at her playful smile.

'Derek...'

'Do not move from that spot.'

'But...'

'Luna!'

Derek crawls across the burned floor, trying to get his muscles to work, trying to lift himself up. Kate nails him with the stun baton again. Derek's body arcs up and slams back, collapsing against the wall.

"Nine hundred thousand volts."

"Kate..." Emerson stares at her in annoyance, "Get to the point."

Kate rolls her eyes, "No fun... You never were good with electricity, were you Derek? Or fire." She glances around before turning her attention back on Derek.

"So I'm going to let you in on a little secret and maybe we can help each other out... Yes, your sister was severed into pieces and used as bait to try to catch you. Unpleasant and a little Texas Chainsaw Massacre for my tastes, but quite true. Now here's the part that might kick you in the balls... We didn't kill her."

Derek looks Kate in the eye, no longer struggling against his electrocuted muscles.

"Think I'm lying?"

Derek frowns, "It wouldn't be the first time."

"Listen to my heart and tell me if I am."

Kate comes toward him with the stun baton, ready to strike him again. She kneels over his body, straddling him without touching him.

"We... didn't..."

Coming ever closer, the tips of her hair falling over his chest as she speaks.

"Kill..."

And still closer, to whisper the last words in his ear.

"Your sister."

Derek listens, hearing only the steady rise and fall of Kate's heartbeat.

"Hear that? No blips or upticks. Just the steady beat of the cold, hard truth."

Derek doesn't respond.

Kate steps back.

"Bite marks were on your sister's body. What do you think it was, Derek?" She smiles mocking with utter disdain, "A mountain lion?"

She snaps the stun baton back and slips it into her jacket once more after stunning him again.

Emerson knowing exactly what she was about to do takes a step forward, "Kate..."

'Luna if you're here she's about to shoot Derek. I know you care about him but you need to realize how dangerous this is.'

Luna frowns throwing her head back lightly into the wall staring at the ceiling. Closing her eyes she thinks and realizes what she's about to do.

"So, why aren't we helping each other? Just admit what you've been guessing the whole time. The Alpha killed your sister. Tell us who he is. We take care of him for you. Problem solved. Everybody goes home happy."

She waits Derek doesn't move a muscle.

"Unless... you don't know who he is either."

Now Derek blinks.

Just a fraction of a response, but enough to convince Kate. She smiles, turning away and pulling a gun from her coat.

"Well, guess who just became totally useless?"

Kate spins with lightning speed firing shot after shot. But it's too late, as she's firing a bright flash blinds her making her stop shooting. As she's blinded Luna raises her hand whipping a hot flash of electricity at her that cuts her cheek. Luna then runs over to Derek grabbing his arm and transporting deep into the woods.

As the two look around Luna slumps. Her energy had been spent seeing as she hadn't used her powers until everything in Beacon Hills started happening.

Derek picks her up holding onto her tightly, "Why'd you do that? I told you not to move."

"I wasn't about to hide again do nothing. I wasn't gonna let you get shot."

Derek sighs watching her eyelids flutter, "Get some rest. I'm taking you back home."

He staggers through the woods gritting his teeth with rage in his eyes. He's been hit several times with the electrical baton which caused his chest to burn.

But worst of all, he's been humiliated.
