Episode 2 Part 1

LUNA races down the stairs and grabs her bag off the kitchen counter, before running out the house. She quickly makes her way next door then knocks on the front door. As she waits, she hopes that Stiles has found and stopped Scott from doing something terrible last night.
"Oh good morning Luna."
Luna jumps not realizing Noah Stilinski was standing in front of her with the door wide open. She composes herself and smiles.
"Morning Mr. Stilinski. Is Stiles still here or did he already leave for school?"
"Nope he's upstairs. Go ahead up."
"Thanks."
Luna rushes past Noah and hurries up the stairs. Knocking on Stiles' door, she hears a mumbled come in, so she opens it revealing a frantic Stiles. He freezes as he sees Luna by his door then looks away and does a double take.
"Wait a second... what are you doing here?"
"I came to see if you found Scott last night. Was he okay? Did he kill anyone?"
Stiles shakes his head and begins to pace again, "No, but he got hit with an arrow by some hunters last night."
Luna freezes and stares at Stiles with wide eyes, "H-hunters? Are you sure?"
Stiles nods not realizing there was something off about how Luna was beginning to act.
Luna gulps, "Did he see who it was? Does he know who they are?"
"I don't think so."
Luna nods letting out a deep sigh of relief.
She was sure Emerson had been out with Chris Argent last night. Just because Fallen had given up being a hunter didn't mean Emerson did. This is one big reason Fallen used to say she would never go out with him. They were now two totally different people. Fallen no longer felt joy in hunting down creatures who did nothing to her. Emerson had fun hunting... he was very similar to Kate Argent in a lot of ways. Except for the fact that he wasn't psychotic.
"Dang it." Luna says with fake sadness, "Well that's all I wanted to know. Sorry for barging in. I gotta go see if my Aunt will give me ride before she leaves for work so I'll see you at-"
"I can give you a ride..."
Luna raises an eyebrow as Stiles bites his lip, "Really? You'd do that?"
"Of course. We're kinda sorta like friends now... I guess. We're neighbors... why not."
Luna nods with a gleaming smile making knots form in Stiles' stomach.
"Kinda sorta friends hmm... yeah sure. Thanks Stiles."
"No problem."
. . . . .
The school day goes by fast and boring as usual. Luna says goodbye to Allison and Lydia before making her way to her locker. Grabbing the books she needs for homework, she closes the locker and jumps at the figure behind the door.
"Stilinski don't sneak up on me like that!"
Stiles squeals in pain as she punches him. He frowns rubbing his arm. He had no idea she was so strong.
Luna grimaces realizing she used a lot of strength to punch the poor boy, "Shoot sorry."
"It's all good. I just wanted to see if you wanted another ride."
Luna eyes light up, "Seriously that would be so great! You're a lifesaver."
Stiles nods, "You'll just have to wait a little bit since I have lacrosse practice."
"Fine by me."
"Alright see you in a bit."
Nodding, Luna scoots past Stiles and makes her way out the school, to the lacrosse field outside. Sitting on a bench, she pulls out some homework from her human anatomy class and gets to work.
Stiles makes his way to the locker room after talking to Luna. He sees Scott slowly drop his bag in front of his locker. The gloves fall to the floor next to it. He seems to be moving in a trance. He slowly turns, back against the locker, eyes staring in shock.
"You apologize to Allison?"
"Yeah..." Scott nods slowly.
"So she's giving you a second chance?" Stiles shrugs.
"Yeah." Scott replies still trance like.
Stiles smiles holding a thumbs up walking away, "Then everything's good?"
"No."
Stiles slowly backs up standing once again in front of Scott, "No?"
"Remember the hunters? Her dad is one of them."
"Her dad?"
Scott nods but doesn't say anything.
"Is one of the hunters...." Stiles repeats still in shock, "Allison's father?"
"Shot me. With a crossbow."
"Allison's-"
"Yes! Her father!" Scott snaps out of the daze and into a full on panic, "Oh my God, what am I going to do?"
Stiles tries to calm his friend down, "Okay, okay- did he recognize you?"
"No, I don't think so-"
"Does she know about him?"
"I--I don't know." Scott frowns shrugging.
"All right, okay, we'll figure it out. J-just concentrate on practice. On lacrosse. Scott?"
Scott nods mimicking, "Lacrosse."
. . . . .
Coach Finstock tosses the ball to the first player, a kid named Greenberg. But Jackson is on him in seconds, smashing his stick down on the poor kid's gloves, sending the ball flying out of the pocket.
"Nicely done, Jackson. Greenberg, that was a pathetic display of amateur ability. Do a lap."
Luna chuckles shaking her head, "Oh Greenberg..."
As Greenberg takes off into a run, the next Player charges. A moment later he lands on the ground with a sickening thud. Scott, gazing off with far too many thoughts swirling in his head, doesn't notice the other players backing up behind him.
"McCall, let's go!"
He snaps to attention, realizing he's at the head of the line. Coach tosses the ball. Scott goes for the shot. But Jackson comes at him with a volley of slap checks.
"Watch the slashing, Jackson!"
As the ball is knocked out of his grasp, Scott winces in pain. He cradles his forearm where Jackson's stick came down especially hard between glove and elbow pad. The whistle goes off making Scott run forward once again. He finds the ball and runs to it but just as he's about to pick it up with his stick, he is shoved and falls to the ground harshly.
Luna freezes hearing Scott's heartbeat slowly start to quicken, "Oh no..."
Jackson bends down to Scott who is still on the ground and smirks, "Still want to be first line, McCall?"
Gritting his teeth in anger, Scott looks up to reveal his brown eyes are rapidly brightening to yellow.
"McCall, my grandmother can move faster than that and she's dead! Can you move faster than the lifeless corpse of my dead grandmother, McCall?"
Luna stands up and makes her way to Stiles who's on the bench as soon as she hears Scott's voice deepen as he replies to Coach in anger, "Yes, Coach!"
"Then do it again!"
Stiles flinches as someone touches his shoulder. Glancing up he sees Luna and frowns at her in confusion.
"What's up?"
"Your friend's about to do something stupid..."
"You mean our friend..."
"Mmm technicalities..."
The whistle blows interrupting the two. On the field, Scott shoots forward again as Coach tosses the ball to him.
Stiles and Luna step away from the rest of the team, noticing the change in Scott. His speed, the extraordinary agility with which he moves.
An oblivious Jackson goes for a cross check, heading for Scott with his stick horizontal even as the smaller boy hurtles toward him with ferocious speed.
They collide like two goats locking horns. Both go down, Jackson hollering as he hits the ground.
The sickening sound of bone dislodging from socket sends a cringe through Coach. While everyone else runs over to check on Jackson, Stiles and Luna hurry to Scott's side.
"Are you okay?"
But Scott won't lift his head, won't reveal his face to Stiles underneath the helmet.
Luna rubs Scott's arm lightly, "Scott?"
His head tilts up to reveal the sharpened teeth jutting out from his lower jaw.
"It's happening. I can't control it. It's happening."
"Oh shit..." Luna quickly looks around to make sure no one was looking at them, which they weren't, "take him to the locker room. Go hurry!"
Grabbing him by the shoulder pads, Stiles pulls Scott up. As Stiles drags him off the field and toward the lockers, neither of them notice someone watching from the sidelines... Derek Hale.
Luna breathes in and sniffs the air before frowning as she glances behind her. She flinches at the closeness of a black leather jacket.
"Shit what the hell is with everybody and sneaking up on people?"
Derek doesn't smile or show any emotion, "You need to tell your friend to be careful. He can't play lacrosse... he can't even control himself for five minutes."
"Yeah like he's gonna listen to me. Stiles is his best friend and he's already gone off on him when he was just helping. Plus we're not really friends I'm just making sure he doesn't kill anyone."
"So you do know something."
"I-I w-what?" She stammers.
Luna curses in her head realizing she just gave herself away. She curses once more as her heartbeat quickens. Derek notices this and lifts his hand to her chin. Holding her head up, he stares into her eyes intensely.
"There's something off about you. I know you're very educated on everything there is to know about supernatural creatures. I don't know how, but all I know is you need to be careful. This isn't a game."
Luna sighs looking away from Derek's intense stare, "I know that, Derek. Believe me I know."
Derek frowns as he feels pain flowing from her body.
"You're in pain... not psychically, but emotionally..."
"I um... yeah," Luna tries to look off but Derek continues to maintain eye contact.
"If you want to tell me you can. You actually don't annoy me as much as your friends, and if it helps take some of your pain away then I'll gladly help."
"Really?"
Derek nods letting go of her chin.
"Who are you?" Luna smiles.
Derek chuckles before quickly masking his emotion with a blank stare as he looks at something past Luna, "You should go check on them."
Luna glances over her shoulder to see Jackson looking at her and Derek as he lays on a gurney being put in an ambulance. She glares making him quickly look away.
Sighing, Luna turns back around. She gasps quietly as she stares at the empty space in front of her.
"You really need to get a bell."
Luna shakes her head and grabs her stuff before running back into the building. She sprints into the locker room just in time to see Stiles lifting a fire extinguisher. White foam is all over Scott as he sits on the floor, chest heaving with each difficult breath.
"What the hell happened to you two?"
Stiles glances at Luna before stepping in front of her just in case Scott lost control for a second time, "He tried to kill me."
Stiles drops the extinguisher to the floor. Still shaking and unable to conceal his anger at his friend.
"It's like I told you. It's the anger, your pulse rising. They're all triggers."
Scott sighs frowning at Stiles, "But that's lacrosse. It's a pretty violent game if you hadn't noticed."
Luna crosses her arms peering around Stiles to glare at Scott. The boy wasn't grasping the concept of their situation right now. He was out of control and didn't know how to balance his anger. Stiles, his best friend, was doing everything he could to help him out, but never even so much as received a thank you. His thanks were almost getting his face ripped to shreds. But what did Scott care about... lacrosse and Allison. Which one was more important... the world would never know.
"Yeah well Scott, it'll be a lot more violent if you end up killing someone. You can't play Saturday. You have to get out of the game. End of discussion."
Scott sighs looking at Luna heartbroken, "But I'm first line."
Stiles glances at Luna who nods firmly. He sighs before looking back at his best friend in sadness, "Not anymore."
. . . . .
Luna climbs into Stiles' jeep while texting Lydia trying to figure out how Jackson was doing. She felt kind of bad. She knew that there was something wrong with Scott, yet she was doing nothing to stop him. It was like she was allowing him to go off the rails... But honestly, she didn't know how to help him.
Stiles sits in the driver seat and turns on the car before looking over at Luna. Luna feels him staring but continues to text.
"So..."
Sighing, Luna drops the phone and glances over at Stiles with a blank face, "So..."
"Don't feel bad. It's not your fault Jackson got hurt."
"Well yeah I know that... it's just... hard to explain..."
"I have time." Stiles smiles softly trying to reassure her, "Plus I'm a good listener."
Luna smiles sadly, "I just know how Scott feels. To feel like an outcast... to finally have life be normal. Then to have it snatched away... um I d-don't... I can't say-"
Stiles places his hand on top of Luna's making her look up at him in confusion, "It's alright, I get it. Whenever you feel like you want to talk I'll be there. I live next door so I'll always be there."
Luna laughs nodding, "Thanks Stilinski."
Stiles nods then starts to back out of the parking space.
"Your secret though it's nothing that will kill us... turn us into gooey monsters... nothing like that right?" He jokes.
"No..." Luna giggles slapping his arm lightly, "Don't be silly. If I wanted to kill you, you would've already been dead."
Stiles laughs uneasily, Luna slaps his arm again with a wide grin.
"I'm kidding ha ha a joke."
Stiles smiles shaking his head, "You're totally not funny."
Finally, Stiles gets to their neighborhood. He parks in his driveway and looks next door to see Luna's driveway empty. He watches her face reveal sadness before she quickly covers it with a blank stare.
Clearing his throat he scratches the back of his neck, "You can come in if you want."
"Okay."
Stiles holds open his room door letting Luna walk in. She puts her bag on the floor before sitting in his computer desk chair. Sitting on his bed, Stiles pulls out his computer and opens a video chat.
"Whatcha doing?"
"Scott wanted to know what happened to Jackson."
"Ah..."
Stiles pats the spot beside him on his bed making Luna chuckle and jumps to sit beside him. The two lean back against the headboard watching the computer, waiting for Scott to answer.
A minute later Scott appears in the video chat window. He stares at Luna in shock.
"What're you doing with Stiles?"
Luna frowns laughing, "Nothing, he just gave me a ride home. And I'd rather not be alone right now so here I am."
Scott nods slowly. He would talk to Stiles about the two of them at another time.
"So... What'd you find out?"
Stiles grimaces, "It's bad."
Luna nods agreeing with him, "Jackson's got a separated shoulder."
Scott frowns holding his head, "Because of me?"
Stiles scoffs, "No, because he's a tool." He glances over at Luna with a raised eyebrow.
"What?" Luna frowns in confusion.
"Oh I'm just waiting for you to disagree with me."
"Oh no, he's definitely a tool... carry on."
Stiles nods looking somewhat satisfied with Luna's answer, "Scott, It's not your fault."
"Is he going to play?"
Luna scoffs with a smirk, "Knowing Lydia... there's no way he can't. She'd deball him before that happens."
Stiles shivers slightly at the idea, "But... Everyone's all counting on you for Saturday..."
Stiles pauses mid-sentence. Then leans closer to the web cam window, squinting his eyes at it. He seems to be looking at something in Scott's room.
"What are you doing?" Luna frowns.
Stiles points to the shadow in Scott's room making Luna look at the screen with wide eyes.
"Oh shit..."
A text window pops up on Scott's screen. Stiles types: 'It looks like--'
The cursor turns into a spinning wheel, the computer momentarily hung up. Stiles's web cam image freezes.
"Looks like what?" Scott questions impatiently.
He saw how scared the two looked as they were staring at the screen but with the computer lag all he could do was wait.
A moment later, the cursor finally stops spinning and the rest of the text appears: 'It looks like someone's behind you.'
Scott stops breathing.
He doesn't turn around. Staying very still, his eyes move to his own image in the bottom corner of the web cam window. He slowly clicks the mouse, re-sizing the window, making it larger and larger until, he sees his own reflected face, an expression of pure fear on it. And behind him a strange silhouette. Someone is standing there in the shadows of his room.
Stiles and Luna yelp as Scott is yanked away from the computer. The computer then falls and closes the video chat.
"Uh oh..."
"It's probably just Derek... he's creepy like that."
Stiles looks over at Luna and raises an eyebrow, "You like it."
Luna gapes at him before smiling, "Yeah..."
. . . . .
The next day at school, Allison stops at her locker, quickly spins the combo, grabs her French book then stops when she notices something strange inside. Slowly, she pulls an item out, one that shouldn't be there. Her jacket from the party.
As she eases the locker shut, she notices how very alone she is in the corridor. She gazes down one end of the hall and then the other.
Not a soul.
Not a sound.
Until the second heel rings, startling her. Breathing a short laugh at herself, she turns to head off to class. Bumping into someone she lets out a shriek.
Luna laughs holding her stomach, "Dude what's your issue?"
Allison glares playfully at her while swatting her arm, "Don't do that! You scared the crap out of me."
"Fine no fun-" Luna stops herself as she stares at the item of clothing in Allison's hand.
"Where'd you get that? Did Scott give it to you?"
Allison frowns looking down, "My jacket? It was in my locker. I think Lydia brought it back from the party. She has my combination."
Luna frowns realizing that Derek had in fact lied to her. What the hell was he planning on doing?
"Your locker?"
"Yeah I thought I left it at Lydia's house. Why?"
Luna smiles uneasily while slowly backing away, "No reason. Glad you got it back. I'll see you later."
Allison looks at Luna in confusion but smiles anyways, "Okay..."
Luna quickly waves goodbye before turning around and storming down the hallway. When she gets outside she looks around at the empty parking lot then closes her eyes. Snapping she hears a whoosh then opens her eyes back up to see herself in front of Derek's family's burnt house.
"Derek..."
Opening the door with a sigh she looks around and takes a cautious step in.
"Derek... come out, come out wherever you are, asshole."
"Why am I an asshole?"
Luna jumps lightly holding her chest as she sees Derek appear at her side, "Stop doing that. And why are you not an asshole... when are you not an asshole."
Derek frowns in confusion, "Yeah I'm lost. Did I do something?"
Luna punches Derek in the chest making him huff out in pain before staring at her incredulously.
"You know what you did Hale... you lied to me."
"About what?" Derek's frown forms deeper as he hears Luna say his last name.
For some reason he liked hearing her say his name, not saying his last name in a way that seemed like he was in deep shit.
"Oh you are in deep shit Hale. You told me you would give Allison's jacket to Scott. Instead you lie and put it in her locker. What for? A warning to Scott saying 'hey I know your girlfriend and I know where she lives. Control your anger or I kill her...' is that it?"
Derek stares at the short brunette in shock, "Okay... wait hold on how the hell did you know what I was thinking just now."
Luna rolls her eyes crossing her arms, "I didn't... I just felt like I knew because of the look on your face."
Derek chuckles humorlessly taking a step toward her, making her take one back while glaring at him.
"Ah Ah Ah who's lying now?"
"Still you! You said you wouldn't hurt Scott. Threatening his girlfriend and potentially killing her in the near future will probably hurt him dipshit."
Luna flinches as her back hits a wall and Derek raises his arm to rest on the wall beside her head. He leans down closer making their noses almost touch.
"I'm not going to kill her. I'm just warning him. The only way through him is using her."
Luna listens to Derek's heartbeat and sighs as she recognizes how steady it is. Looking up at him she can't help but feel butterflies in her stomach, especially with how close they were standing.
"I'm sorry I lied. But I'm not this time. Now you on the other hand... you definitely have some explaining to do."
"I don't have to do shit."
Luna goes to push Derek's away but freezes as his hand lightly pushes her waist against the wall. Her heart beat quickens as he face slightly reddens.
"Sure you don't have to... but it would be nice to know what you are."
Luna smirks looking into Derek's intense gaze, "I'm human Hale."
Derek frowns as he hears her steady heart. He chuckles then moves the arm that was leaning on the wall closer to her head. His hand sweeps her hair behind her ear making her freeze. He watches her facade slowly crumble while giving himself a mental pat on the back.
"Another lie... you're good... I however am patient so I'll wait. But I'll always be watching."
"That makes you sound like you're a stalker."
Derek shrugs leaning down even closer, "You like it."
Luna's eyes flicker to his lips then back to his eyes. Derek seeing this and smiles before closing the space between them. Just as their lips touch a scream causes them to jump away from one another.
"Derek!"
Luna runs her hands through her hair as she tries to catch her breath. Derek glances at her once before walking to the front door.
Scott lets his bike clatter to the ground, school bag with it. In a flash he's on the porch, looking in each window.
"Derek!"
Still no response.
Scott slips around the side of the house and to the back. Then something catches his attention. At the edge of the woods, he sees fresh dirt covering the ground. As if something had been dug up. Or buried.
But before he can approach, a sound stops him in his tracks... A heartbeat.
At first it's a tiny rhythm. But then it rapidly gets louder, stronger. Scott starts to back away, moving for the front of the house again and for his bike when
Derek appears on the porch. He just calmly walks out of the shadows and down the stairs.
Scott tries to stand strong as he glares harshly.
"Stay away from her. She doesn't know anything."
"What if she does?" Derek shrugs as he continues to walk forward, backing Scott away from the house, "You think your little buddy Stiles can Google werewolves and now you've got all the answers?"
Reaching down to Scott's school bag, Derek picks up the lacrosse stick, playfully turning it over in his hands.
"You don't get it yet, but I'm looking out for you. Think about what could happen. You're on the field. The aggression takes over. And you shift in front of everyone. Allison, your mother, your friends..."
Derek's hand comes up and the claws are out. Scott flinches back, both in fear and surprise at his display of mastery over his abilities.
"And when they see you..."
He rakes his claws over the net.
"Everything falls apart."
The slashed threads flutter away from the head of the lacrosse stick, the net now in tatters. Derek tosses the ruined stick. Scott catches it. When he looks up he's alone, Derek having vanished yet again.
"That wasn't very nice..."
Derek stares at Luna as she walks near him at the front door.
"I'm not nice."
Luna rolls her eyes, "Yeah yeah. I gotta go. Homework's not gonna do itself."
"Let me give you a ride."
Luna's eyebrows furrow as she stares at Derek in awe, "Seriously?"
"Yeah why not."
Luna nods before following him to his car. He walks to the passenger side, holding the door open for her, then closing it once she gets in. Once he sits in the drivers seat she smirks looking at him.
"Wow what a gentleman."
"Sometimes."
After a short drive, Derek pulls into Luna's driveway. She sighs in relief as she notices no cars outside, meaning her Aunt was home, meaning she wouldn't get yelled at for not keeping her promise.
Luna opens the door and steps out before leaning half her body into the car and smiling widely at Derek.
"Thanks for the ride."
Stiles frowns as he hears a loud engine outside. He gets up from his desk and walks to his window. Across from his room was Luna's room. Seeing it empty, he looks down and notices a black car in her driveway. Noticing Luna standing at the passenger door, he watches her lean into the car and kiss a guy on the cheek.
He sees her smile and then close the door making her way to her house. Stiles quickly looks around his room and grabbing his binoculars. Gazing into the lens, he zooms into the drivers seat. Squealing in surprise he catches eyes with Derek Hale.
