14: I Need A Hero... I'm Holding Out For A Hero Till The End Of The Night
"Racing on the thunder and rising with the heat, It's gonna take a Superman to sweep me off my feet, I need a hero. I'm holdin' out for a hero 'til the end of the night. He's gotta be strong, And he's gotta be fast, And he's gotta be fresh from the fight, I need a hero."
~ Bonnie Tyler
3rd Person's POV
'Mila I know you probably hate me right now. And I understand. Believe me I hate myself. And I get it if you don't talk to me again. I just... I want you know I'm sorry. There's no excuse for what I did... I'm not going to lie to you I was at Oscorp and I lost track of time. That doesn't excuse the fact that I blew you off and probably hurt your feelings but I just... I'm sorry.'
Mila lays on her bed as she listens to the voicemail from Peter for the thousandth time.
She was so upset and hurt by him but she liked listening to his voice. She missed him but she didn't want to see him. She had avoided Peter all day at school Friday. Thankfully Phillip was her bodyguard, so there was no way Peter would be able to talk to her anyways.
When she called Phillip to come pick her up that night, he livid. He wanted to go back to Peter's house and beat him to a pulp but obviously Mila didn't let that happen.
Mila frowns slightly as a message pops up on her phone. She smiles reading it then jumps out of bed and runs to her closet.
After she gets dressed, there's a knock at her door. She opens the door to reveal Phillip standing holding a plate of cookies. Mila grabs one with a smile before looking at him in confusion.
"What are these for?"
"To get you to come out of your room. You've been moping all day."
"Whatever. I'm about to go out."
"Go where?" Phillip questions as he sits on her bed eating a cookie.
"I have a last minute Photoshoot. Their model canceled so the photographer asked me to step in."
"Oh good you love doing shoots."
"Yeah that's why I'm happy."
"Good that'll take your mind off of..."
Phillips lips purse as he mentally curses at himself. Mila chuckles before patting his head.
"It's fine. Hey can you drop me off?"
"Yeah sure I gotta go drop something off for dad anyways."
Mila nods and follows him out her room. They both head to the car and grab one more cookie before leaving the house.
...
Police cars race down the busy streets of New York. The sirens blare as the cars come to a stop. One cop hurries out the car and stands looking up as he holds a radio.
"All cars. All cars in the vicinity of 54th and 6th Ave, please report. Crane out of control. Approach with caution."
Almost ten stories high is a large crane that had been spinning and jerking out of control.
"Oh my God. Seven Atom to central. That crane. It's bigger than we thought. We're gonna need a major mobilization right away."
The Crane Operator inside freaks out as the buttons start to spark as he tries to shut down the machine, "Just gotta douse the accelerator! Now!"
"Okay, Mila. I've got a secret. It's my copier."
Mila chuckles as she smiles posed on the copier with two girls beside her.
The photographer frowns as he looks at his camera, "What is that thing doing in my background?"
Mila steps down off the copier and walks to the window looking at a huge metal bar that had been spinning slowly towards the building. She notices how close it's getting and starts to back up.
"Everybody get down!"
Just as she screams out, the bar hits the building, smashing through the windows. Everyone falls to the ground quickly in hopes of not getting hit. Mila feels the bar fly by them quickly. She hurries and sits up looking around, making sure no one was injured.
Down below on the streets of New York, people scream and run as pieces of the building and desks and chairs fall onto the street. More police cars make their way onto the scene as many stand around looking up at the building.
A police jogs over to Captain Stacy, "The guys look out of shot of it. They can't shut down the crane."
George frowns, "Get Edison on the phone. Have them kill the power of the whole block."
Inside the building, many of the models groan in pain from the glass cuts that they had. Mila feels many cuts on herself but doesn't even worry as she crawls over to one girl.
"Are you all right?"
Mila helps the girl stand and then helps her walk away from the now broken and open half of the room.
"It's coming back!"
Everyone screams as they turn to see the crane coming back around. They all run to the opposite side of the room just as the crane hits two floors below them, causing the floor to cave in. The floor tilts making Mila and the girl have trouble running. The girl starts to slip, but Mila moves behind her and pushes the girl to the edge of the broken tilted floor. The girl grabs onto the edge and pulls herself up then hurries and turns around to help Mila. Just as their hands touch the floor falls deeper making Mila slip and slide to the window.
"Ahh!"
She quickly grabs onto a phone as she passes it. The cord holds her for a second before popping off and making her slide all the way down to the edge of the building. She screams as her arms grip tightly to the floor. Looking down she sees how high up ten floors really is, making her scream even louder.
Phillip frowns as he watches a girl hang onto the side of the building. He knew he dropped off Mila in this same building an hour ago and he had a horrible feeling in his stomach at the moment. Beside him one of New York's photographers for the newspapers, stands near him taking pictures.
"Hey man can I see that for a second?"
The guy grimaces for a second before seeing George Stacy, the Captain, beside Phillip. He nods hastily and hands Phil the camera.
Phillip nods a thanks before looking into the lens and zooming in on the girl hanging onto the building. He gasps then turns to his dad with wide eyes.
"Shit Dad. It's Mila!"
George frowns looking over at Phillip, "What?"
George snatched the camera out of Phil's hands before looking into the lens and seeing Mila's fearful face looking down.
"What's she doing up there?!"
"She said she had a modeling gig!! We need someone to get up there and help her!"
"No one can get up there fast enough! Shit."
A crowd forms below the building. All the people watch in fear as Mila dangles from the building. George shouts out orders to firefighters as they try to get through the crowd of people that the police try to gather out the way. Tears fill Mila's eyes as she starts to hyperventilate.
'This can't get any worse.'
Just as she thinks this, a bolted desk breaks from the floor and slides right towards her. She screams as it hits her, knocking her off the building. She quickly holds onto the ledge of the building. The metal breaks away from the tower causing her to dangle in the middle of the air, holding onto nothing but the metal.
Gasps fill the crowds as everyone watches. Firefighters hurry with the truck ladder but not fast enough. The crane comes back for the third time. It crashes into he building and goes up towards the roof, making all the glass by Mila shatter. The metal gives and breaks off the building causing Mila to fall straight down into debris that breaks off the building.
Mila falls screaming her lungs out and notices a red flash in the air coming straight for her. Out the corner of her eye she sees two large pieces of cement on each side of her getting closer and closer. She gasps and closes her eyes as the cement breezes by her arms. Just as the two pieces smash together, Spider-Man flies through and swipes up Mila. She holds tightly onto him not opening her eyes until they're safely on the ground.
Spider-Man helps Mila stand up straight as they both hit the ground. She stands trying to catch her breath.
"You okay?"
Mila nods yet her whole body shakes, "Yeah. I'm fine. Thank you."
Spider-Man nods. He frowns as her eyes start to flutter.
"You sure you're okay?"
Just as Mila goes to nod she feels herself getting lighter. She shakes her head and passes out in an instant. Spider-Man quickly catches her before she hits the ground. He picks her up and carries her over to the ambulance.
The paramedics stare at him in awe as he lays Mila on the gurney.
"Take care of her."
They both nod and watch as he flies away. George and Phillip hurry over to the ambulance.
"Mila!"
"Sorry sir she's out cold. We're going to have to take her to the hospital and check on all her wounds."
"Alright. I'll be right behind you. Phillip stay with her."
Phillip nods and gets into the ambulance after Mila is pulled inside. George shuts the doors and watches the ambulance speed away. He stares up at the building then at Spider-Man who sits on a statue near watching. As they lock eyes, even though the mask, Spider-Man quickly disappears swinging away on webs.
