Chapter 10

Truth be not told

Fate kept glaring at the crystal orb, attempting to put her vision into words but failed to do so.

"I don't know professor...it was too hasty, I cannot figure out what I saw"

"Oh its okay dear, it is a great deal that you even saw anything at all.
Do not worry, you have no experience in such art that is why you can't tell what you got an insight of"

Professor Firenze came to eye level with the orb and stroked it with her right hand, and soon her smile fell.

She began speaking in a gloomy tone

"Pain..."

β€”just wonderful!-

Fate mentally facepalmed herself as the first word that left the professor's mouth was literally pain.

"Pain...will unearth its way to your path. Loss, comes along the way. This one moment be beautiful then gone. Two great sides clash against one another, shattering and annihilating anything in its way. Disaster be waiting upon your doorstep but the question is...will you let in or make it go away before it crashes its way through" Professor Firenze said with a dismal look in her eyes.

Fate on the other hand was looking at her with a dumb look on her face as if someone just told her the most ridiculous joke ever.

"I'm sorry but...wot?" She asked perplexed.

"Oh dear...you're going to suffer...a lot but you can stop it, the pain" clarified the professor.

"And how exactly am I supposed to do that? seeing you know I am going to be in despair then you must also know how to stop it," Fate raised a question determined to get an answer.

"Unfortunately, I do not have the answer for that, only you do Fate," said and turned around with a sorrowful look leaving Fate dumbfounded.

The girl fought the urge to roll her eyes as she sat back but just then professor dramatically moved back with her one finger raised making Fate almost jump in her place.

"...I think...someone might try to bite your leg off in a day or two" with that she turned back going to another table.

β€”eeeeuhjjjjhshjshsshsu this little piece of!β€”

She almost threw the glass orb at someone with resentment but before she could, she drew in a sharp breath.

"Oh thank you for letting me know, I will...umm keep an eye...on my leg"

Just as Fate answered back the class was abruptly interrupted by a fat ugly laugh which she could tell very easily who it belonged to.

"BAHAHA! You better watch your leg there!"Β  Bellatrix spoke more like spat, as she clearly does not know how to communicate like a normal person.

"Why? Do you intend to bite off?" Fate uttered softly yet sarcasm dripped from her tone, Instantly making the ugly hags smile tune to a scowl.

After a few minutes of others trying their hardest to peek into the future and failing professor sighed and made her way to Toms table.

"Okay, let us start with you, Tom. You know what to do, so go ahead"

Without speaking Tom just nodded and gazed into the misty orb.

Fate's eyes were fixed on the Slytherin head boy as if she would be able to glimpse whatever he would, but he had an unimpressed look on his face indicating he does not see a thing until a look of astonishment tinged across his sharp features just for a moment.

Luckily Fate caught his expression right off the bat before anyone else could.

"Did you see anything?" asked the professor.

Tom sat back in his seat with a small sigh.

"Unfortunately No" He responded shrugging innocently.

β€”liar!β€”

"Such a pity, seems like only Miss Crysta was able to clear up Her inner eye, therefore in the next class we shall do this again but I want all of you to peer into the orb and get an insight of your fortune. So for today's homework, you will have to clear your inner eye for more information about the topic please read the topic on page 420. Class dismissed"

With that, all the students got up and left but Tom was the first one to flee from the scene.

"So Fate would like to join us for din- ...aye, where did she go?" Asked a confused Sirius looking at now Fates empty seat.

Fate was hot on his trails following after him without being noticeable. The brown-eyed boy took sharp turns in a haste and soon went to the Slytherin common room.

After realizing he was heading for his common room Fate stopped, there was no use following the boy. She wanted to wait there, for Tom to come out but she could not risk being seen as a stalker.

She made her way back to her common room her head flooded with questions.

β€”What is the bloody hell was that? Pain? Suffering at my door? And I can not let in? Ugh! I get it I am here to stop the slaughter of many innocent lives but that still does not make sense. But what did he see? Most importantly why did he lie?β€”

Throwing her course books out of her bag, she collected the books she had to return to the library and shoved them in the poor bag that would've begged for mercy if it could talk.

With another trip to the library, she hoped to find the bloody book she needed. Not many were at the place as it was dinner time, leaving the library quite empty.

She quickly made her way to the not-restricted section, grabbing the books she started pushing them on the shelves afraid that someone might catch her doing so.

"Those are a lot of books don't you think? A sound called after her this making her eyes go wide, luckily the person could not see her.

Slapping a blank look on her face, she turned to find the mysterious boy once again.

"Why you really like this section of the library don't you" she dodged the question.

"Don't you? I observed you are quite interested in dark arts." He questioned back.

"How can you say that? this only my second trip here" she asked further.

"Third..." he corrected "and actually you did quite well during our class with a professor Galatea and also...the amount of books you just slammed back at their location says otherwise" he finished.

"Well...you are not wrong, After all, dark arts is such an intriguing yet dangerous subject don't you think?"

Fate spoke carefully looking Tom in the eyes to find some sort of reaction.

But the boy just nodded "yes I suppose"
The girl nodded as well her eyes trailing down to the book in the boy's hand, his diary.

She fought in her in mind, debating whether if she should as him about the diary or not but then decided not to. Because now was not the time.

"Excuse me now, I have to leave" not waiting for her reply Tom started walking away.

But before he could leave, Fate saw a corner small book peeking out from the pocket of his robes. Which was clearly borrowed without permission from the library.

Smirking to herself she called after him. "Your book is about to fall, better secure it properly!"

The boy stopped for a moment, not looking back, he gently placed the book back in his pocket.

β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”β€”

Fate made her way to the dining hall and spotted her new friends.

Taking a seat between lily and James who was sitting with a gap between them enough for some else to sit she wondered

β€”why there not sitting together and being love birds? Wait! in fact, I have not seen these two even talk ever since I came hereβ€”

"Aye look who is here?" Chanted Sirius who sat right across Fate long with Remus.

"Where did you vanish off to?" Lily inquired form her side but before Fate replied, Remus did after looking at the two books that were clenched in her hands.

"A trip to the library I assume?"

Once again before the girl could talk James popped his head in the conversation.

"Oh good god! Not another Moony! Do you not tired of studying all the time?" He dramatically spoke.

"Moony?" Asked Fate not replying to anything else that the boy with round spectacles had asked.

"Of course our good ol Remus here," said Sirius patting Remus on the shoulder as he spoke.

"Oh...ye-"

"She is not like Remus he studies everything, but Fate said she only reads what pleases her curiosities" once again cutting off the girl Sirius spoke.

"Oh is that so? wot do you like to read Fate?" Questioned James.

"Mostly dark arts and its defense"

"Oh wow...i would read such books too but who has the time? Am I right? I mean they're a lot of better things to do!" said James with a grin.

"Like wot Exactly James? Picking on snape?" Snapped Lily all of a sudden.

"O-oh..w-well that is not what I meant" stammered the poor potter, while Sirius and Remus watched the two with amusement, and oh yes, peter was there too but Fate did not bother to acknowledge his presence.

Now feeling slightly confused and awkward, Fate cleared her throat.

"Can you hand me the coffee please Remus"

"Sure, here...would like some sugar and creamer as well?" Asked Remus.

"Oh no that's fine, I like it simple" replied Fate.

"Oof how could you drink black coffee?! It is soo...bitter!" Lily said looking at the not so very sweet cup of coffee with a displeased look.

"I think its delicious, even the bitterness can hold pleasure if you ask me"

"Wow," lily said impressed "you are quite unique"

"...thank you" Fate smiled at her new redheaded friend.

She picked her cup of coffee to take a sip but when she looked ahead, her eyes were briefly met with a pair of darker ones before they looked away, back to the book that was held between the boys' hands.

β€”He is hiding something but do not worry Riddle I will soon find out what lies behind those dark eyes of yoursβ€”
