"πππ πππ πππππ? Is your room clean? Did you brush your hair?" Helen, who had just finished vacuuming the floor, questioned Kara as she walked down the stairs. "Are the snacks in your room? Is there enough? Like enough for all of you and Peter?"
Today was Kara's fifteenth birthday, and since it fell on a Saturday, she decided to host the birthday party on the same day. Only a few people had been invited, being Peter (Parker), Ned, Amelia, and Peter (Maximoff). She just hoped it wouldn't get confusing, having two Peters in the same room. . . .
"Yes, and yes, and yes. Don't worry." Kara reassured her with a giggle as her mom moved on to organizing the pillows that were strewn across the couch. "I'm ready."
Now satisfied with the way she had set the throw pillows on the couch, Helen looked up at Kara. "Oh, you look cute! For a certain someone, perhaps?"
"No, I look cute because I want to look cute." Kara stuck out her tongue at her playfully, although she wasn't particularly wrong. "And this sweater is super comfy also, so, bonus."
Kara was wearing a blue-grey pullover sweater that she had received from Wanda the previous Christmas. It was made of the softest material that she'd ever felt and was a little oversized, so the sleeves were slightly longer than her arms (perfect for whacking people with).
She had tucked that into a black jean skirt, which ended just above her mid-thigh. And the best part of her outfitβthe Ravenclaw socks she had onβwere a deep blue with a grey edge, and had the Ravenclaw crest stitched on the ankle.
"Sure, sure," Helen laughed in disbelief as she gave one last look around the room.
"Which reminds me," Kara quickly added with a stern glare, "no teasing about Parker."
"I won't, you don't need to worry about that," she promised, though she had a sly smile on her face that informed Kara that she wasn't gonna uphold it. At all.
"Oh no, this is gonna go terribly," Kara groaned to herself as she shut her eyes.
The doorbell rang, notifying them of waiting guests. "I'll get it! Can you go make sure that the oven is turned off? And that the lasagna is covered with aluminum foil?" Helen requested as she speed-walked to the door, which was only a few feet away from their living room. "Oh, hi, Peter, Ned!"
Going as fast as she could, Kara headed into the kitchen and over to the oven, making sure that all the heat settings were set to 'Off.' Once she checked that, she peered through the glass to see the glare of the shining aluminum foil, assuring her that the lasagna was covered.
"Hi, Ms. Cho!" She heard the two boys chorus back in unison.
"Hey, guys!" Kara smiled as she met them in the living room, their attention turning to her as soon as they heard her voice.
"Happy birthday, Kara!" Ned exclaimed, holding out a pink gift bag toward her.
Kara gasped as she took the bag from him. "Thanks, Nedley!"
"Happy birthday!" A shy smile came over Peter's face as he handed her the grey gift bag.
"Thanks!" After placing the two presents next to the coffee table, Kara gestured for them to follow her up the stairs. "Let's go to my room."
They walked into her room, and Ned sat down in her desk chair, ogling at the photos she had hung up there of her with Amelia, Peter (Maximoff), Tony, and some of the other Avengers (and her mom, of course). Ned always loved to stare at those photos whenever he came to Kara's house, having never gotten over the fact that these people were essentially her family.
Peter sat down on the hanging basket chair that was across from her bed, taking one of the grey throw pillows from the seat and laying it on his lap as he watched Ned with amusement.
"I still can't believe you know Tony Stark and Orchid and all the other Avengers and X-Men," Ned sighed dreamily, his eyes flitting from photo to photo.
"Oh right, I forgot to tell you!" Kara exclaimed as she sat down on the edge of her bed. "Amelia and Peterβer, Peter Maximoff are coming too."
The both of them let out a gasp of excitement at the same time.
"Why didn't you tell us before, Kara? I would've at least brushed my hair!" Ned exclaimed, trying to comb his already straight hair with his fingers.
"Calm down, I don't think they're gonna care if you have messy hair." She laughed at his sudden agitation, leaning back on the fluffy, white pillows that were placed at the back of the bed. "You should see Peter Maximoff's! Plus, the two of them aren't even that cool!"
"They fought freakin' aliens! That's pretty cool!" Ned protested as he moved over to the basket chair on the left side of the room.
"It is pretty cool," Peter agreed, nodding his head.
Before she could protest again, the chime of the doorbell sounded. "Oh! They're here! I'll be right back!"
She rushed downstairs to see Amelia, who was standing in the middle of the living room, in the middle of a conversation with Helen. She was wearing a Pink Floyd sweater that probably belonged to her boyfriend and ripped jeans that were covered in paint splatters, looking as adorable as ever.
Peter Maximoff was standing right next to his girlfriend, part of the conversation with her and Helen. He was wearing a black Nirvana shirt, jeans, his signature silver jacket and the goggles that Kara had loved stealing when she was younger.
"Ames!" Kara enveloped her in a tight hug, holding her close as she sighed happily.
Amelia squealed as she hugged her back. "Happy birthday, grandma!"
"The hell am I, chopped liver?" Peter (Maximoff) asked, offended that Kara hadn't greeted him yet.
She pulled away, staring at Peter (Maximoff) with a small grin. ". . .Yes?"
"At least I taste good." He shrugged.
Kara stepped towards him and pulled him in for a hug, breathing in the familiar scent of his cologne. "Anyway, I missed you guys!"
"We missed you too." Peter (Maximoff) smiled as he ruffled the top of Kara's hair with one hand, knowing that she hated when he did that.
Now that the greetings were finished, Amelia had something else that was placed as priority in her mind. "Is he here yet? Do we get to meet him?"
Kara pretended to not know who she was talking about. "Who?"
"The fuck do you mean who?! Peter Parker!" Amelia exclaimed, her hands on her hips.
Helen giggled, sending Kara a wink before looking at Amelia. "Oh, you mean the cute boy that Kara is in love with? He's right upstairs, with Ned."
Kara scrunched her face. "I'm notβ"
"Yes. Yes, you are," Helen interrupted, waving a hand in the air. She looked towards the other two, her eyebrows now raised. "Amelia, Peter, why don't you go introduce yourselves to the other boys?"
"Yes, please." Amelia nodded energetically, a villainous grin spreading on her face.
"Do you have snacks up there?" Peter (Maximoff) questioned. As usual, nothing but food mattered to him.Β
Kara nodded in reassurance. "I brought extra, just for you."
Not needing to hear any more than that, Peter (Maximoff) dashed up the stairs, Amelia and Kara following (not) close behind.
Before Kara opened the door to the bedroom, she turned to the two grinning people with narrowed eyes.
"Y'all better not say anything. Okay?"
"Anything about what?" Amelia asked innocently, batting her eyelashes. "That you're in love with Parker?"
"Yeah, I thought you weren't?" Peter (Maximoff) continued off of her, his eyebrows unusually high.
Amelia nodded. "So then it's okay if we say something, because you're apparently notβ"
"You know what, I'm taking back your invitations. Leave," Kara joked, pointing down to where the door would be if they were downstairs.
Peter (Maximoff) shrugged nonchalantly. "Can I at least grab some snacks before we go, orβ"
"Okay, let's just go." Kara put her hand on the doorknob, before looking at them once more. "Not. A. Word."
Kara opened the door, causing the two boys to stop their conversation on what still seemed to be about sewer aliens. The two boys looked to her, and then to Amelia, and then to Peter (Maximoff), their eyes wide. She closed the door behind her after Amelia and Peter (Maximoff) walked in, silently praying for everything to go well as she released her grip on the door handle.
"Hey guys, uh, this is Amelia, and Peter Maximoff." Kara turned to face everyone and gestured to the two. "And these two are Ned, and Peter Parker."
Amelia waved excitedly, her eyes lingering on Peter (Parker) as she finally saw him for the first time. "Hey guys, it's so nice to finallyβ"
"Is that your mom's caramel popcorn?!" Peter (Maximoff) cut her off, his brown eyes wide as he saw the metal bowl that was filled to the brim with the candied popcorn sitting at the edge of the desk.
Amelia glared at him for his sudden interruption. "WhaβPeter! Don't be rude! Show some respect, this is Kara's future boβ"
Kara elbowed her before she could continue, sending her a lethal look. She tried to save the sentence to avoid suspicion, "Bohemian Rhapsody partner!" Yep, that was believable.
"I was gonna say boogeyman, but okay," Amelia mumbled to her.
"Sure you were."
"Whoa, Amelia? Stark?!" Ned's eyes were as big as the moon, him not seeming to have processed anything that had just happened in the last thirty seconds.
"You must be Ned." Amelia grinned as she flopped down on the right of Kara's bed, leaning her chin on her hand as she laid on her stomach.
Ned let out a small gasp, his eyes somehow becoming bigger. He whisperedβmostly to himselfβ "You know my name?!"
"Any person that likes to go against Yoshi with Wario is a person worth remembering," Peter (Maximoff), who was now sitting at the desk with the bowl in his lap, responded. His voice was slightly muffled due to the handful of sweet popcorn he had shoved into his mouth, his cheeks puffing out like a chipmunk.
"Because anything that can piss Kara off will be burned in my brain forever." Amelia nodded.
"Yoshi is the best, no one can tell me otherwise," Kara said simply as she sat down next to Amelia, grabbing one of the feathery pillows and holding it close to her chest.
"No, Wario is the best." Ned shook his head, a tone of finality in his voice.
"Yeah, Wario is much, much better than Yoshi," Peter (Parker) agreed, this argument being all-too-familiar to Kara.
Amelia grinned. "Link could mess Yoshi up."Β
Kara turned to her with narrowed eyes. "I'm going to mess you up if you keep talking like that."Β
Ned snorted in disbelief, "As if you could."
"I totally could." Kara nodded insistently, although she knew that she most definitely could not.
"She has super cool, totally awesome powers." Ned raised his eyebrows before gasping. "Orchid, Quicksilver, is having powers cool? You guys are so cool! Show us your powers!"
Barely a second later, the bowl was out of Peter (Maximoff)'s lap, and he now had Ned's wallet in his hand. He rifled through the contents, frowning. "Aw man, why does your student ID picture look good? You should see my driver's license, it's shit."
"Holy crap, that was so freakin' awesome!" Ned exclaimed excitedly, despite the fact that Peter literally had his wallet. (Not to mention the fact that Peter's a kleptomaniac, so who knows if he'll steal something from Ned. He probably won't, but . . . you never know with him.)
Suddenly, Amelia disappeared, having gone invisible. The wallet was snatched from Peter (Maximoff)'s hand, and given back to Ned, the girl reappearing as she laid back down on the bed. "And illegal. Sorry, about that Ned."
"It's . . . it's all right." Ned began to whisper to himself, "Quicksilver touched my wallet . . . and then Orchid touched it . . . my wallet . . . so cool . . ."
"I don't know what you're going on about, they aren't that cool." Kara shook her head, wrinkling her nose as she glanced at the two offended faces.
"No, they're pretty cool," Peter (Parker) disagreed, sending her a cute grin.
"Thank you, Parker. Can I call you Parker, Parker?" Amelia asked, her feet slightly swaying in the air behind her.
"Sure." Peter (Parker) shrugged.
"Thank you, Parker." A malicious smirk spread onto her face. "Just out of curiosity, do you . . . like . . . have a girlfriend?"
Oh boy.
Peter (Parker) furrowed his eyebrows. ". . . No?"
Amelia looked over to Kara, wiggling her eyebrows in a not-so-subtle manner. In return, Kara sent her a look that told her to shut up.
Amelia looked back to Peter (Maximoff) and continued, "Uh-huh, and . . . let's just say, ya know, hypothetically, if you were to have a girlfriend, would you like if she was completely obsessed with Harry Potter and too smart for everyone around her and quite frankly a bit of a pain in the assβ"
Kara interrupted her as Peter (Parker)'s eyebrows furrowed, "Okay, uh, Parker, don't answer that, Amelia, shut up."
"You know . . . I feel like I know someone exactly like you just described." Peter (Maximoff) played along, his lips having the same smirk that Amelia's did.
"Yeah . . ." Amelia tapped her fingers on her chin, pretending to be in thought. "But who? Oh! Why, isn't it our very own Kβ"
"Flying spaghetti monster!" Kara cut her off with the first thing that popped into her mind. "Yep. The . . . the flying spaghetti monster is who it is . . ."
"Isn't that the monster that has a religion based on it?" Ned frowned.
"Nope. It's the person Amelia is describing." Kara waved her hand in the air. She decided to change the topic before things could worsen. "Anyway, let's uh . . . let's play a game. Suggestions?"
"Truth or dare!" Amelia exclaimed almost instantly.
Kara shook my head. She already knew which truth questions Amelia would ask. "No."
"Spin the bottle!" Amelia tried again.
"No."
"Seven minutes inβ"
"No!"
"I'm all out of games." Amelia shrugged, resting her cheek on the bed.
"What about never have I ever?" Ned offered.
"Yes, Ned, thank you." Kara nodded. She turned to the girl beside her. "See, Amelia, that's an appropriate game. Are you playing seven minutes in heaven with your students?"
"Truth or dare is a very appropriate game!" Amelia said indignantly.
"Not when you're playing," Kara shot back.
She folded her arms, looking away. "I have no idea what you're talking about."
"Yes . . . you do." Kara nodded. "Anyway, who wants to start?"
"Me!" Amelia exclaimed as she raised her hand in the air.
Kara sighed, "Great. Go."
"Never have I ever accidentally sent a text to the wrong person."
It was actually normal. Good.
Wait, had she? Yes. There was that time where she had texted Tony 'You are a waste of oxygen and I hope your supply gets cut off soon' when she had meant to text that to Amelia. To be fair, she had named their contacts 'Stupid Stark #1' and 'Stupid Stark #2' at the time, which . . . was confusing.
But boy, oh boy, Tony was not pleased after getting that message.
Everyone put a finger down at this, Amelia included. Did she know how to play?
"Let's go in a circle," Kara decided. A grin spread onto her face. "Never have I ever shoplifted."
Peter (Maximoff) put his finger down, pouting. "This game is rigged."
Ned laughed, "Okay, my turn." He thought for a moment. "Never have I ever . . . forged my parent's signature on a test."
Guiltily, Kara put a finger down.
"You dare disrespect Mama Cho like that?!" Amelia gasped, putting a hand over her heart.
"No, no, it's because she was on a business trip and obviously I wasn't gonna get your dad to sign it or something, so I did what I had to do!" Kara explained, shaking her head quickly
It was now Peter (Parker)'s turn. "Okay, uh, never have I ever broken a bone."
Peter (Maximoff), Amelia, and Ned all put a finger down.
"Never have I ever lost in any video game against someone else," Peter (Maximoff) smirked, making a sideways glance towards Amelia and Kara to make sure that they put a finger down.
Everyone put a finger down, excluding Peter (Maximoff), of course.
"I hate you," Kara grumbled.
"Whaβyou can'tβthat's justβshut up! I've come close in Mario Kart and you know it!" Amelia huffed angrily, shaking her head.
"Close doesn't mean you won." Peter (Maximoff) raised his eyebrows.
It was Amelia's turn once again. She turned directly to Kara, her eyes narrowed. "Never have I ever cried over Cedric Diggory every single time I watch the movie which is over six billion times."
"This game is rigged." Kara slowly put a finger down, her obviously being the only one who had done so. "Never have I ever been stupid and incompetent enough to think that Wario deserves any sort of human rights."
Everyone else put a finger down, instantly offending Kara.
"Y'all are fake."
"I feel bad that you can't accept the truth." Ned gave her a pitying look before taking his turn. The mischievous grin she was so used to seeing on Amelia and Peter (Maximoff) then grew onto Ned's face. "Never have I ever had a crush on a girl named Kara."
Kara felt her face heat up at the mention of her name. He wasn't talking about her . . . right?
His cheeks pink, Peter (Parker) put his finger down; everyone now only had six fingers left.
There was a short silence that followed as everyone stared at him, excluding Ned, whose expression had contorted into a gleeful one as Peter (Parker) answered honestly.
Kara suddenly felt nervous.
"It'sβit's Kara Danvers! From Supergirl!" Peter (Parker) quickly explained, stammering nervously.
Ah, that made sense. Oh, Melissa Benoist. What a hottie.
"But . . . you . . . you don't watch Supergirl?" Ned furrowed his eyebrows.
Oh?
"Yeah, I do!" Peter (Parker) nodded furiously, trying to convince everyone of something that was so obviously false. He narrowed his eyes at Ned, sending him a murderous look.
Amelia gave Kara a knowing look that was accompanied by a smirk, to which Kara quickly shook her head.
"No further questions!" Peter (Parker) declared loudly, before swiftly following with his turn. "Never have I ever gone on a plane."
Everyone put their finger down except for him.
Peter (Maximoff) grinned for the thousandth time, enjoying the fact that he could specifically target Amelia and Kara. "Never have I ever had a crush on a boy."
Amelia and Kara put a finger down, the both of them rolling their eyes simultaneously.
Amelia decided to take inspiration from Ned. "Never have I ever had a crush on a boy named Peter."
Peter (Maximoff) scrunched his face in disbelief and leaned over to wave a hand in front of her stupid face. "Um . . . 'scuse me, hello, yes, Peter Maximoff, your boyfriend, sitting right hereβ"
Amelia's eyes widened as she realized her mistake. "Wait, fuck, noβ"
"No take-backs! Put your finger down," Kara laughed, nudging her.
As she put a finger down, Kara reluctantly put her own finger down as well.
She furtively glanced over at Peter (Parker), silently cursing as she saw the red cheeks he had. Dammit, he was catching on.
"Waaaaaaaait a second, you put your finger down too! Is there a Peter you've had a crush on too?" Amelia giggled excitedly.
"Oh, ho, ho, I mean . . . there's only two Peters you're friends with, correct? Which one of the two is it?" Ned raised his eyebrows, his voice strangely insinuating.
Aw man.
She had two choices at that moment. Either she confesses her crush in a room full of people (not the most ideal place to get rejected), or admit something that would boost Peter (Maximoff)'s ego by a million.
Kara sighed, "I can't believe I'm gonna say this. Okay. I used to have a crush on Popcorn Boy over there when I was, like, seven."
"Aw! Did you really?" Amelia's eyes lit up in delight, instantly forgetting about Peter (Parker).
"As much as I absolutely hate to say it . . . yes." Kara nodded slowly. "To be fair, he was the only boy I talked to. But then I saw Professor Xavier and his hair . . ."
Amelia smacked her boyfriend's knee. "Look at you, ladies man."
"What can I say, I'm just that good." He ran a hand through his silver hair, giving Kara a sly wink that instantly made her crinkle her nose in disgust.
"Yeah, you are." Amelia leaned over and gave him a quick peck on the lips.
Kara shuddered. "Vile. Anyway, never have I ever almost burned a kitchen down."
"Hey, you were there too. That was a collective effort." Amelia raised her eyebrows, reaching over and putting a finger down for Kara as she put one down herself.
Amelia and Kara were now down to two fingers, both of them having the lowest amounts.
"You guys know that you're supposed to say things that you haven't done, right?" Peter (Parker) squinted his eyes. "The objective isn't to lose."
"Never have I ever actually enjoyed listening to One Direction music." Amelia, who was now on a mission to make Kara lose, stole Ned's turn.
Both Ned and Kara put a finger down.
Kara gasped in excitement as she looked over to Ned. "You listen to One Direction?! Who's your favourite?"
"Niall, obviously." He nodded.
"Oh my God! Yes!" Kara leaned over and gave him a high-five. "Okay. Never have I ever had a mutation where I could absorb energy and make shields."
At this point, the game was just a competition between Amelia and Kara. That happened every time, so it was no surprise.
Amelia gasped as she put a finger down. "This game is rigged. Never have I ever threatened an Avenger."
Kara thought for a moment. Had she?
Oh yes. Definitely.
There was that time where Kara told Nat that she'd shave Nat's hair off when she was nine. And the time where she told Sam that she'd push him down a flight of stairs if he didn't give her a high-five when she was eleven. And then when she told Clint that she was gonna shove one of his arrows up his ass when he had stolen one of her Oreos a couple of weeks ago. And the time when she threatened to vomit all over Tony if he didn't get her Advil. And when she told Tony that she was going to kill him when he threatened to tell her crush that she liked him in the first grade. And when she told Tony she'd blast him last week. And whenβit was safe to say that she could put a finger down.
Kara put a finger down. She then narrowed her eyes at Amelia. "You can't tell me that you haven't threatened at least one of them. Not even Uncle Clint? Or Uncle Sam? Or your dad? You're lying."
"Aw shit, I've threatened my dad like, every day, what the fuck, no!" Amelia whined as she put down her final finger.
Kara looked down at the fists the both of them now had, her eyes widened. "Holyβdid we just lose? At the same time?"
"How did we manage to do that?" Amelia frowned.
"Because all of your gaming skills are the same. Zero." Peter (Maximoff) grinned, shrugging.
"I'm offended." Kara folded her arms, sticking her tongue out at him.
Ned squinted his eyes at her, giving a small shrug. "I mean . . . he's not wrong."
"Yeah, you suck at games. Kara does, at least," Peter (Parker) laughed.
"Amelia's pretty bad too," Peter (Maximoff) informed them, nodding. "And then when they're together, it's like . . . mass destruction. For the both of them."
"Nuh-uh," Kara protested.
Amelia pouted. " . . . no?"
"Hey guys, dinner's ready!" Helen poked her head into the room, a big smile on her face.
"Let's go downstairs." Kara got up from the bed, hoping to leave without Helen and Amelia saying something to embarrass her. By themselves, they were already terrible, but together? Terrifying.
"So, Amelia, have you gotten a chance to get to know the boys?" Helen asked Amelia as they walked down the stairs.
Amelia grinned. "Why yes, yes I have, and can I just say thatβ"
"No need for words to be said, I think we all understand," Kara cut her off, not wanting her to say anything that could possibly expose and/or humiliate her.
"Don't you think Parker's such a great boy?" Helen raised her voice slightly, making sure that Peter (Parker), who was just behind her, could hear.
"A great boy, yes, very sweet and civilized, meaning he'd be a good balance for Kara's insanity." Amelia nodded wisely as they sat down around the table, glancing back towards the boy.
"Exactly! They'd be perfect togeβ"
Kara interrupted her, "Okay, so, uh, wow look at this food! Delicious! Let's eat and not talk about anybody here in particular!"
After dinner and cake, it was time to open the three presents she had received. Kara sat down on the grey couch, Amelia sitting to her right, with Peter (Maximoff) next to her, and Helen sitting to her left while Peter (Parker) and Ned sat on the opposite couch. Kara placed all three gift bags on the glass coffee table in front of her, slightly moving aside one of the vases that held a small bouquet of white flowers.
"Open mine and Peter's first!" Amelia gestured to the cyan-coloured gift bag that sat in front of the other two, the colour obviously meant to match her energy's colour.
Kara took the bag and placed it on her lap. She first took out the card, which had a hand-drawn Gordon Ramsey on the cover, who was yelling: Happy birthday, you idiot sandwich!
"Aw, Amelia, this is beautiful!" Kara wiped a fake tear away as she admired the surprisingly well-drawn chef. She then opened the card to see two separate messages, one on each side. A smile grew on her face as she read the first one, being from Amelia, and the smile quickly disappeared as she read Peter (Maximoff)'s teasing in the second message.
Dammit, Peter. It was pretty funny, but still.
"Now look at your presents!" Amelia pushed.
Kara unwrapped the first gift, which was a brown plastic box with a white, oval-shaped button on the top corner, which had a small bamboo illustration. She pressed down on the button, and half of the top of the box lifted up, with a small panda head popping out. The paw reached towards the button, and pulled in, obviously meant to pull in a coin.
"Oh, I've seen those online before," Helen commented, recognizing the gift.
"This is so cute, oh my God!" Kara gasped as she pressed the button again, feeling immense joy as she watched the adorable panda appear.
"Right? I knew you'd love it as soon as I saw it!" Amelia nodded her head in agreement, a grin on her face.
"There's more," Peter (Maximoff) chuckled as Kara continued to press the button, mesmerized.
"Oh, right!" Kara pulled out a soft, maroon sweater that had a large, yellow 'K' stitched onto the front. "This looks exactly like what Molly Weasley would make!" she exclaimed, her eyes wide as she examined the clothing.
"That's what I had in mind when I made it," Amelia gave a light laugh, nodding her head again.
Kara turned to her, a shocked expression on her face. "Shut up, you made this? This is incredible!"
"Oh, it was nothing." She waved her hand in the air, brushing it off.
"Thank you so much!" Kara leaned over and enveloped her in a hug.
"Wait! There's one more gift." Amelia quickly walked over to the corner of the room, where there was a long, cylinder-shaped object wrapped in wrapping paper that Kara had somehow not noticed before. She grabbed it and brought it back to Kara, a smile on her face.
"I feel like I should be worriβwhoa!" Kara's eyes widened as she realized what the gift was after unwrapping it. It was a body pillow, and it looked just like a baguette. A huge, wide baguette. "Guys, this is just gonna make me hungry at night!"
"Exactly! I want you to suffer." Peter (Maximoff) gave an evil grin, rubbing his hands together.
"At least it doesn't smell like a baguette," Ned chimed in, nodding his head. "Unless you just rub a baguette all over it, then it will."
"Well, I don't think I would do that." Kara squinted her eyes.
Seeing that she was done with Amelia's gift, Ned pointed toward the bright pink gift bag that belonged to him. "Mine now!"
"All right," Kara giggled as she took his bag. She took out the card, slightly flinching as she saw what was on the cover. Her greatest enemy, Wario.
She looked up to see a wicked grin already plastered on Ned's face, obviously pleased with himself. "Do you like it?"
"Oh, I love it. Wario's my favourite," she said sarcastically, taking out the first gift. Surprise, surprise, it was a Wario plushie. She glared at him. "Edward. I'm gonna kill you."
"How? Are you gonna get your little Yoshi to come get me?" Ned teased, raising his eyebrows. Peter (Parker) had begun to quietly giggle at the situation, amused.
"Oh, you bet." Kara nodded as she took the next gift out. "I'm gonnaβNed, you did not. You did not."
"Oh yes, I did. Custom made, baby!"
Kara stared at the black t-shirt that he had gifted her. There was an image of Wario, sitting on top of a very dead Yoshi, laughing his head off. She glared at Ned once more. "I'm gonna burn all your gifts." Obviously, she wasn't going to, but she was not going to wear this disgrace of a shirt.
"You'll see the truth one day, Kara. One day . . ." Ned trailed off, nodding slowly.
"Mhm, okay Nedio." She placed his bag off to the side, and grabbed the final one, belonging to Peter (Parker). She took out the card and gave a small gasp. It was a deep red, and had a cat that was dressed up as Harry Potter. The words on the card said: Harry Purr-ter says . . . Happy birthday, muggle! in the classic Harry Potter font. "Parker, this is so cute!"
She glanced up at him, who had become visibly nervous. "Y-Yeah, I thought of you as soon as I saw it." He grinned.
Kara opened the card, immediately seeing Peter (Parker)'s neat writing on the right-hand side. Noticing that both Amelia and her mom were trying to take a peek at the note, she leaned backward and held the card close to her face to read it.
Happy birthday, Kara!
I just wanted to say thank you so much for being such a kind, smart, and caring friend to me. I have to admit, I was really scared that Ned and I were just going to be the loser kids for the entirety of high school, but then we met you on the first day, and I realized that really didn't matter. We might be two loser nerds, but we've got you as a friend, and that makes me one of the happiest people on the planet. Hopefully, you won't get too sick of us by the end of the school year, and we can still be friends for a much longer time after. I hope you have a great year being 15!
Sincerely,
Peter Parker (the better loser nerd friend)
Kara smiled as she read the writing. How could one be so cute through words? She looked up to Peter (Parker), who was anxiously waiting for her to finish reading, his eyes tentatively watching. "This is adorable, I love it!"
"Well, I meant every word I said." He smiled shyly.
Kara unwrapped the first present, which at first seemed like a book, with its deep brown colouring and gold accents. The words 'Wizardry and Witchcraft' were printed in fancy cursive, leading her to believe that the gift was Harry Potter-related. She opened it, to see twelve different eyeshadow shades, all of them beautiful. "Whoa, this is eyeshadow? That's so cool!"
"Yeah, Aunt May spotted it while we were shopping," Peter (Parker) said.
She picked up the second gift, which, to her delight, was a Yoshi plushie. "Yoshi! Oh, my favourite." She hugged the soft, green character close to her chest.
"Ew," Ned commented, crinkling his nose at the toy.
"As much as it hurt me to get it, I knew you would like it, so I had to do what I had to do." Peter (Parker) nodded gravely, letting out a dramatic sigh.
"Well, I appreciate your sacrifice," Kara laughed. She looked around at the four of them. "Thank you guys, you guys are the best!"
"I know I am." Amelia flipped her hair, giggling.
Ned nodded in agreement with her. "You are."

It was now a little past ten in the evening, the party having ended only a half-hour before. Amelia and Peter, who were sleeping over, were now cuddled up in the basket chair across from where Kara was laying in her bed, the three of them dressed in their pyjamas.
Amelia changed the topic of their conversation from the children at the Mansion to something much different. "Hey, what the hell were you talking about when you said that Parker doesn't like you?"
"He was basically staring at you the whole night." Peter nodded, giving her raised eyebrows.
"Whaβno! He was probably looking at the wall behind me, it's a nice wall." Kara brushed it off, waving a hand through the air.
"He said he has a crush on a girl with your name, and Ned said that he doesn't even watch Supergirl! So he was obviously trying to cover it up!" Amelia exclaimed, shaking her head.
"There are a lot of Karas in the world! I'm not the only one!" she protested, giving a small shrug. "He could be talking about a different one if it's not Kara Danvers!"
Although, Kara Danvers . . . that was a good Kara right there.
"I thought you said that you and Ned were his only friends?" Peter narrowed his eyes.
"And do you know of any other Karas in your school?" Amelia questioned as she shifted closer to her boyfriend.
"Thatβthat doesn't matter." Kara looked down at the ground. She did not know of any other Karas.
"Doesn't matβof course it matters!" Amelia insisted loudly, sighing at her stubbornness. "He likes you! A lot!"
"No, no, I really don't think he does!" Kara shook her head quickly. "Maybe you guys are hallucinating? Did you guys eat those expired granola bars again?"
"Now I'm hungry." Peter frowned.
"Maybe you're in denial!" Amelia pointed an accusing finger at Kara.
"I'm not in denial! Maybe you're in denial!" Kara did the same to her.
"Denial!" Amelia shouted.
"Maybe we should go get some more popcorn," Peter pondered out loud, his mind now set on the idea of eating more food.
Kara giggled, "There's some left in the pantry."
A flash of light and a second later, Peter had a bowl of popcorn in his hands as he sat back down beside his girlfriend. He shoved a handful into his mouth. "Ames does have a point, Kara."
"About what? I don't know what you're talking about?" Kara asked innocently.
"About the fact that you and Parker are gonna get married and have little tiny Parker-Cho babies!" Amelia nodded quickly, taking a piece of popcorn and popping it into her mouth.
"Okay, I don't think that that's gonna happen." Kara shook her head once more.
"You'll see, Kara." She tossed a piece of popcorn into her mouth, a smirk on her face. "One day. One day."
"No way. Besides, if he liked me, I think I would know." Kara sat up, folding her arms.
"No you wouldn't," Peter scoffed, knowing her too well. "Which is exactly what's going on right now."
"And exactly why your mother, Auntie Nat, Wandaβall of us!βneed to help you open your eyes and go for it!" Amelia encouraged, a grin on her face.
"Open myβmy eyes are wide open! And they don't see anything!" Kara enlarged her eyes just to make her point.
"Because they're wide shut!" Amelia slapped her hands over her eyes to prove her point. "With blindfolds and sleeping masks and sunglasses that make you blind to the fact that he at least likes you. I mean, come on Kara. You have to admit he at least likes you."
"Well . . . no, I don't think so."
Amelia looked over to Peter, the both of them exchanging incredulous looks. "Unbelievable. IQ of twenty-six trillion and she can't figure this out. It's absurd."
There was no way Parker liked her. Amelia and Peter were wrong . . . right?
