Chapter 6
Author POV:
The tumor got bigger...
And the day of the surgery was quickly approaching.
Days past with Buttercup ignoring Butch, and Buttercup began to not go to school, it was as if Buttercup was slowly disappearing from Butch's life without a reason or warning.
It was a school day, and Buttercup was to stay at home alone because her father had to attend work. Buttercup didn't mind staying home alone, but she did sometimes feel lonely.
Buttercup stared at her journal that was placed on her desk, looking through all the pages and what she wrote last week in it. She took out a pencil, and began to write down what's been going on now.
'I'm scared...what will happen after the surgery and the emptiness I will feel knowing I'll no longer remember anything'
Buttercup gets startled once she hears a knock on her front door. She get's up and leaves her room to go open the door of the house. "Hello, can I- Oh... it's you," Buttercup mumbles, "Nice to see you too." Butch chuckles dryly.
Butch closes his eyes tightly and when he opens them, Buttercup swore she saw slight fire of anger inside them, "Can... we talk outside for a few minutes? with me, now." Butch asks, but it seemed more of a demand than a question.
Buttercup gulps, and agrees.
Buttercup steps outside of her house and closes the door behind her, and waits for Butch to speak up.
"Tell me the truth, Buttercup and don't say 'there's nothing going on' I already heard some of it. So tell me." Butch's eyes look dark and sharp.
Buttercup sadly looks down at her hands, "Heard some of it? Well, Butch... my injuries that day were all healed, but..." Buttercup's hands turn to fists, "They found something and apparently now I'm forgetting my memories."
"What the hell are you talking about?" Butch keeps his eyes on Buttercup, but Buttercup keeps avoiding eye-contact with him.
"The day that I got hit with a soccer ball, I had also hit my head with a rock during that accident, a tumor began to grow inside my head..." Buttercup looks up at the sky, "My doctor said I'll start forgetting things, and that's way...all my new memories are disappearing." Buttercup looks at Butch, and sadly smiles at him.
Butch now understood why she's been acting strange around him.
"But surgery-"
"I'll be taking surgery soon, but even if I take the surgery I'll still forget my recent memories...the doctor can't fix that part." Buttercup takes in a deep breathe, "Let's break up." Buttercup frowns and turns around to head back inside her house.
"So that's it? Your going to give up the easily? I thought the Buttercup I know doesn't give up on anything!" Butch yells, not wanting their relationship to end so easily because of a tumor.
He fought so hard to not let her walk out of his life and he's not going to let that happen now, not now and not ever.
"So what? It's not like I can stop it or do something about it, I'll just forget and I'll forget everything about us...I...will even forget our 'I love you's'." Buttercup mumbles, and was about to open the front door until she felt Butch grab on to her arm.
"We can't give up, not because a tumor got in our way to finally being happy together," Butch tells her, "How can you even say that? When I even forgot we were dating?." Buttercup asks, staring down at the ground to hide her broken face.
"I'm in love with you, Buttercup."
Butch turns Buttercup around, and lifts her head up by her chin. Buttercup's vision is blurry from her wet tears, and she tries to speak, without letting her voice crack. "It's h-hard, Butch. Every morning I'm trying to remember e-everything that happen the day before from the diary that I write everything down and I keep repeating it over and over that I'm in love with you."
"Why couldn't you tell me?" Butch whispers, "I was too scared, and too scared what you're reaction would be, plus I kept forgetting." Buttercup admitted, Butch sighed and pull Buttercup into a hug.
'Even though I'm going to forget that Butch and I dated, and whats happening now, I don't want him to forget about us'
"Don't forget that you love, please don't forget about us, even if I forget." Buttercup begged, and tightened her hold onto Butch's waist, "Please," She sobs.
"No matter how many times you forget me, I'll make you fall in love with me-"
"Over and over and over?" Buttercup asks, looking up to his face.
"Yes, because no matter what, I'll always love you."
