S2, Chapter 11: Yumiko's Dilemma, Rumors Abound

It was another day in Sobu High, Y/N was staring at the paper on his desk. Shizuka had handed out a paper labled "Future Plans Survey."

He could overhear the conversation of Hayato's clique.

Tobe: Which course are you guys going for?

Yui: Hina and I are probably going into liberal arts. Yumiko's still thinking about it.

Tobe: Really? Maybe I'll go with liberal arts, too...

Yumiko: (texting on phone) What about you, Hayato?

Hayato: I've kinda decided, but I'll give it some more thought.

Yumiko: Hmm...

Tobe: Which do you think I should do, Hayato-kun?

Hayato: It's your own life. You need to give it some serious thought, or you'll regret it.

Tobe: Aww...

Ooka: By the way, Hayato-kun, is it true you're going out with Yukinoshita-san?

This causes everyone to perk up, especially Y/N and Yumiko. The L/N boy turns his head slightly as he begins to look at Hayama.

Even Hachiman had looked over. Yumiko, didn't like this, causing her to get out of her seat.

Yumiko: What!?

As all the members of Hayato's clique members had closed-eyed smiles, awaiting for a response, Hayato responds in a cold attitude.

Hayato: Who said something irresponsible like that?

Ooka: Uh...it's just a rumor...

While everyone was surprised at his behavior, Y/N only scoffs. He remembered this behavior, but that's when they were much younger.

Yumiko starts to calm down and slowly sits down in her seat.

End of class

Class had ended and Y/N was walking through the halls, making his way to the Service Club room. On the way, he encountered Yumiko walking the opposite way of him. Two girls were by a window.

Girl 1: Did you hear about Hayama-kun? Someone saw them together over winter break!

Y/N: (thoughts) Winter break? Ah, that New Year's dinner.

Girl 2: Yeah, it seems like the real deal, doesn't it?

As Yumiko walked by, the girls by the window noticed Yumiko giving them the stink eye. Y/N sighs as he kept walking. He hated his popularity and he'd imagined Hayato hated his as well. All though, it's been a few months since he's had girls frolicking over him so he felt glad.

He finally made it to the room and sat in his usual spot, at the end with Yukino near him, Yui sitting next to her. Hachiman was at the other end, reading his usual book.

Yui: Yukinon, over here!

Yukino: What's wrong with where I am?

Then they pulled out the present they had bought for her.

Yui: Congratulations! Happy birthday!

Hachiman: Congrats.

Y/N: (monotone) Happy birthday.

Hachiman had bought the computer glasses that he saw over winter break, Y/N buying an exclusive Christmas plushie of a Pan-san, and Yui giving her winter mittens.

Yukino: (stunned) Th-Thanks.

The green-eyed boy rubbed the back of his head, a small blush on his face as Hachiman only stared. Yui kept her bright smile on.

Iroha was also there, putting on a forced smile.

Iroha: So your birthday is January 3rd, Yukinoshita-senpai?

(A/N): Now that I think about it, I should've written this on January 3rd. I forgot the queen's birthday. I shall be smitten.

Iroha: (looks between Y/N and Hachiman) By the way, mine is April 16th, senpais.

Y/N: We didn't ask.

Hachiman: Why are you here, anyway?

In front of them were cakes that Yukino had brought in. The foxy girl only pats Hachiman's shoulders and leans over to Y/N to pat his.

Iroha: Oh, come on. What's the problem? There's actually a little favor I wanted to ask. Oh, right? (looks to Yukino) Yukinoshita-senpai, are you really going out with Hayama-senpai?

The other three gulped in surprise, hints of annoyance in Y/N's voice. No one spoke after. Just silence.

Yukino: ...What?

When Iroha opened her eyes, her curiousness changed to one of slight fear, a look of annoyance present on Yukino's face, despite her showing a smile.

Yukino: Isshiki-san.

Iroha: Y-Yes?

Yukino: That obviously isn't true.

Iroha: (nodding frantically) Y-Yeah, you're right! I thought there was no way it could be true!

Yui: Remember when you went out the other day? Seems like someone saw that and got the wrong idea.

Yukino: (sigh) I see. The petty suspicions of a lowlife.

Yui: Well, you know...they say a rumor only lasts 49 days, right?

Hachiman: That's 75 days.

Y/N: Of course you'd know that.

Iroha: I hope so...Hayama-senpai never had any rumors specifically about him before, weirdly enough. He's, like, everybody's Hayato Hayama. So since this rumor came up, there are more people trying to mess with him.

Yui: How so?

Iroha: Well, like girls confessing to him, or if they don't go that far, they try to appeal to him by "just checking."

Y/N: Well, at least it takes the heat off my back. I haven't had a single girl try and go up to me to confess their feelings.

Yukino: Checking? On what?

Yui: And that appeals to him?

Iroha then clears her voice, looking to Hachiman with a cutesy voice, a slight blush on her face.

Iroha: Senpai? Are you going out with anyone, right now?

Hachiman: (gulps and blushes) No...I'm not...

Her fake expression when confessing her feelings turns to a coy smile, starting to pat Hachiman's shoulder.

Iroha: See? That's what I'm talking about.

Yui: Th-That's just an issue of how you say it! Right, Hikky?

Hachiman: (thoughts) Well, I can't say that wouldn't appeal to me, yes. In fact, it sure as hell did.

He was shaken from his thoughts as he looks to see everyone staring at him, annoyed looks.

Yui: Hikky?

Yukino: Why aren't you saying anything?

Y/N: Don't tell me you actually appeal to that.

Hachiman: W-Well, anyway, you know...I understand what's going on with Hayama. Yep. I understand very well.

Y/N: Do you?

Yukino only sighs before she puts on her new glasses, opening up her laptop.

Yui: Those really do look great on you!

Yukino: (blushes) D-Do they?

Hachiman: Well...yeah.

Y/N: (rubs nose) Y-Yeah... (looks away, holding nose)

Yukino: (blush increases) Th-Thanks.

Iroha: Did you always wear glasses, senpai?

Yukino: These reduce blue light.

Iroha: Oh...

Yui: (slight jealousy) Maybe I should try a pair of those, too.

Hachiman: You don't look at the computer that much.

Yui: I do! I look at it all the time!

Y/N: Really?

Yui: Yeah! Yukinon, let me see it, too!

The notification sound chimes on Yukino's laptop. Y/N leans over, much to Yukino's nervousness as the heat rushes to her cheeks due to Y/N's closeness. Yui had leaned over as well, looking to see who messaged.

Yui: Oh, there's an email.

The sender was from none other than Yumiko Miura. They click on it and read it, it saying, "How are you guys decidin' between liberal arts and sciences?"

Y/N: ...That's it?

Seconds later, the door to the Service Club opens, the five of them looking towards the door.

Yumiko: (walking in) Got a minute? I want to talk to you.

The blonde girl then glances to everyone, who had puzzled faces. Iroha looks between all of them, an awkward smile on her face as she begins to make her way out of the room.

Iroha: Well, I appreciate your help with the future plans counseling sessions.

Hachiman/Y/N: Huh? No one told us about that...

Iroha: Bye! (shuts door)

Yui: (looks to Yumiko) So, what'd you want to talk about?

The girl in question sits down in the seat Iroha was in, looking directly at Yukino.

Yumiko: Is something going with you and Hayato?

Y/N: (mutters) Of fucking course...

Yukino: (takes off glasses) Nothing of significance. Me and Y/N have known him since we were young. That's all.

Yumiko: Is that true?

Y/N: (sigh) Yeah.

Yukino: Would lying benefit me in any way? That sort of thing has always annoyed me.

Yumiko: What? Why do you have to talk like that? It really pisses me off! I really hate that about y--

Yui: Yumiko! I already explained that to you before. They just bumped into each other...that's all it was!

Y/N: Yeah, they did. Along with that poor excuse of a "father."

Yumiko: If that's all it was, Hayato wouldn't be so bothered by it. Something happened, didn't it? Even if it's not now, something a long time ago...

Yukino: (sigh) Even if something did happen, and I told you all about it, would it change anything? Would you, and everyone else, believe it? Ultimately, it's meaningless.

Yumiko: (clenches fist) That part of you seriously...

She goes to stand up and attempts to do something aggressive, but she stops. Yukino wasn't doing anything as she had calmly stayed in her seat, glaring at the blonde.

Yukino: Is there something else you'd like to say?

Tears start to well up in Yumiko's eyes, Yui making her way towards her friend. She puts her hand on her shoulder, attempting to calm her down.

Yui: Come on, calm down. Okay?

Y/N: (to Yukino) You calm down, too. There's nothing to gain with pointless bickering.

Yukino: I am calm. I'm used to this sort of thing. (smiles) As long as the people closest to me understand, that's enough.

Yumiko: Obviously. That's exactly why.

Yui: Huh?

Yumiko: The thing about the people closest to you. That's what I want to be. That's why I asked.

Hachiman: ...What you want to know isn't what happened a long time ago, is it?

Yumiko: I...just...I mean...I just...thought it'd be nice if we could be together a little longer. All of us, I mean. Hayato's been distant lately. Even I realize this is weird, but...I don't know anything else...

Yui: It's not weird. It's not weird at all. It's only natural to want to stay together.

Y/N: (thoughts) Miura just wants to know what course Hayama will take and what he wants to do beyond that. She knows that the things now can't stay the way they are...I tried preventing that back then...and it's gotten me here. What a joke, all that was. The people closest to you will find some way to leave you.

Hachiman: But you know Miura. Doesn't the fact that he won't tell anyone mean he doesn't want anyone to know? He might not like being asked.

Y/N: Well, that's how he's always been. He never liked it when someone pestered him about certain topics.

Yui: Hey, Hikky, L/N-san!

Yukino: Y/N...

Y/N: Do you still want to know?

Yumiko: I do. (wipes tears) I still want to know. It's the only choice I have.

Y/N: (sigh) All right, I'll do something.

The green-eyed boy grabs his scarf and bag, starting to proceed out the door. He then makes his way to the soccer field, where Hayato and his club were playing.

He then felt a tap on his shoulder, seeing the rest of the Service Club there.

Yukino: Here, take this.

Y/N: Thanks. (looks to Yukino's hands) Already using them, I see.

He takes the can and drinks it down in one go, tossing the can to Hachiman.

Y/N: You guys can head home.

Yui: But it doesn't feel right leaving it all to you.

Hachiman: It'll be easier to ask him alone. Probably. Besides, he has a better chance as he knew him longer.

Yukino: Well, then...sorry to leave it all to you.

Y/N: Didn't I tell you? I never asked you to worry about me. Besides, work is just work. See ya.

The youngest L/N sets off, going towards the soccer captain as he calls him over to talk.

Hayato: My future plans? Did someone ask you to ask me?

Y/N: Who knows? I don't even know my future plans myself. I guess you could say it's for reference.

Hayato: Then can I ask you a favor, too? Could you stop being so intrusive?

Y/N: ...

Hayato: (grins) If I said something contrary like that, what would you do?

Y/N: Probably cross that bridge when the time comes.

Hayato: I see. As for your question, I'll leave the answer to your imagination.

Y/N: There you go, being all cryptic again. You never changed.

Timeskip-Next Day

Both Hachiman and Y/N were sitting with Saika, eating lunch as they were asking about his future plans.

Saika: My future plans? Since I've been playing tennis for so long, I guess I'd like something related to that.

Hachiman: Can't you get a recommendation or something, then?

Saika: (giggles) Only a precious few get those. At our school, someone like Hayama-kun would have a chance. (stands up) Guys! Dismissed! See you after school!

Tennis Members: Sure!

Saika: (looks to two) This doesn't suit me?

Y/N: (shrugs) Hell if I know.

Hachiman: No...I just didn't know you did captain-ish stuff like that. It surprised me a little.

Saika: I'm doing a pretty solid job, right? I might be unreliable, though.

Y/N: Nah, you are reliable. Especially to this guy.

Hachiman: Not that I'd know yet, of course...but I'm pretty sure I could.

Saika: Yeah.

Scene Change, Student Council Room

After they ate their lunch, they made their way to the student council room. They opened the doors, Iroha sees them and she pulls them in.

Iroha: You're late, senpais!

She then notices Yui and Yukino behind the two boys.

Iroha: And...you guys, too! Thanks for coming!

Yui: Yahello, Iroha-chan!

Yukino: What do you want us to do?

Iroha: We have to rearrange all this stuff. Some of the alumni came to help.

Yukino/Y/N: Alumni?

Haruno: (walking in) Hey, it's Hikigaya-kun and Y/N!

Setsuna: (walking in) Yukino-chan, sorry if it's late, but happy birthday.

The older L/N sibling had given another Pan-san plushie, Yukino beginning to hold it close to her chest as she sends an appreciative nod towards Setsuna.

Haruno: Yahello!

Yukino: (looks to Haruno) Nee-san, there's something I want to ask you.

Haruno: (tilts head) Hmm?

Timeskip of Yukino asking her question

Haruno/Setsuna: Hayato's future plans? Is that all?

Yukino: Do you know anything?

Setsuna: Hmm...now that I think about it, Hayato did come by our apartment while ago. It was right after Y/N left for school...yeah, I don't remember.

Y/N: Yet you can remember the most pointless things.

Setsuna: (flicks Y/N's forehead) Shut up. And remembering the dates of when anime is airing is not pointless.

Y/N: Whatever.

Haruno: (looks to Yukino) Back to our previous topic, I thought you could handle things on your own now. Here you are relying on others again.

Setsuna: (sigh) Here she goes again.

Haruno: That was cute when you were little, but now...think about it on your own.

The younger Yukinoshita's eyes widen in slight shock. Yui looks at her friend with worried eyes.

Yui: Yukinon...

Timeskip-Evening

It was after school and Haruno had asked both Y/N and Hachiman to walk her to the station. Setsuna had ditched Y/N to go somewhere, but Y/N does remember that Setsuna had found another part time job since she quit working at the maid cafe.

Y/N: Why are we here again?

Haruno: It's not often you get a chance to walk home with a gorgeous older girl like this.

Y/N: While you may be gorgeous, I see you as an older sister.

Haruno: I would be by law if you married Yukino-chan.~ When's the wedding?

Y/N: (-_-) There is no wedding.

Haruno: (pouts) Boo, you two look so cute together.

As the three of them continued to walk down towards the station, Haruno asked them a question.

Haruno: Have you heard which curriculum Yukino-chan wants to go into?

Hachiman: No, I haven't.

Y/N: I never asked.

Haruno: Well, I guess she wouldn't volunteer the information. Make sure you guys ask her. Especially you Y/N, okay?

Y/N: Why me?

Haruno: So we can check each other's answers!

Hachiman: I don't think you'd call that "checking each other's answers."

Haruno: (pokes Hachiman's cheek) Don't sweat the little details! By the way, did you try asking Hayato directly?

Hachiman: L/N did.

Y/N: Yeah. He said some stuff, but he didn't tell me.

Haruno: Huh...I see. Hayato was hoping for it, too...

Y/N/Hachiman: What?

Haruno: For someone to find him...maybe?

Later That Night

The youngest L/N had arrived back in the apartment, his sister doing the dishes, know that she felt fine from her little sickness about a month ago.

He was currently laying on the couch, phone in hand as he scrolled through social media. He then puts it to his side, now staring up at the ceiling.

Y/N: Everyone's Hayato Hayama, huh?

"I'm not the good guy you think I am."

Y/N sighs to himself as he got up and heads to his room.

Timeskip-Morning, Outside of school

The next day had rolled around and the boys were in their tracksuits, all lined up. The girls stood on the sideline with their tracksuits on as well.

Iroha: Hayama-senpai! Good luck going for your second consecutive win!

The foxy school president smirked as she looked towards Miura, who was annoyed. Yumiko looks to Hayato and she shyly cheers him on.

Yumiko: H-Hayato...g-good luck!

Hayato waves at the two. From behind, Y/N and Hachiman make their way up to the front, standing next to Saika as they wait behind Tobe and Hayato.

Iroha had noticed the two going up.

Iroha: And good luck to you, too, senpais!

Tobe thought it was him, so he gave a smile and a thumbs up. From the sidelines, Yui was waving happily as she cheered for Y/N and Hachiman. As soon as Yukino's eyes met Y/N's, she quickly looked away, a light blush on her face.

She brought her hand up slowly, slightly waving.

Yukino: G-Good luck.

Y/N was stunned slightly, but he gives a soft smile and nods in her direction, making Yukino smile as well. Hiratsuka then stood by the side with a gun in her hand, raising it up to the air.

Hiratsuka: On your marks! Set!

She pulls the trigger and it makes a loud sound. Soon, the thundering of footsteps start as the boys take off.

They soon race of school grounds, Hayato in the lead with Y/N only a few meters behind him. Hachiman was slowly trailing up to the two as the rest of the crowd were being held up by Totsuka, Hachiman calling the tennis leader to have his club mates hold up the rest of the people, but also stay in front.

Hachiman was the only one breathing heavily, only able to keep up thanks to him riding to school early. Both Y/N and Hayato had kept steady breaths, both neck and neck. The two were quite competitive when they were younger. The three of them raced on the course in a small section of Chiba City, going through a small area of the Chiba Prefecture and race back to school grounds.

Soon, the two boys look over to Hachiman, who had slowly caught up to them.

Hayato: I'm surprised that you're able to keep up.

Y/N: (pants) He rides a bike to school.

Hachiman: As long as I don't think about pacing myself, it's not impossible. (pants)

Y/N turned his slightly to see the rest of the crowd was still a ways away, still being held up by Saika and the rest of the Tennis Club.

Hachiman: (smirks) Was Miura handy for keeping girls away?

Hayato: (grunts)

Hachiman: Well? Was she useful?

Hayato: Be quiet for a minute.

The blonde male then starts to pick up the pace, Y/N starting as well as Hachiman was slow to pick up.

Y/N: Did you pick liberal arts or sciences?

Hayato: I'm not telling you. Both of you.

Hachiman: Then let us put it another way.

Y/N: Pick sciences.

Hachiman: We don't know which one you had chosen, and we really don't care. But it can still be changed, so change it!

Y/N: This is the only way to meet your condition, right?

Hayato: Condition?

Hachiman: You told L/N to stop being intrusive, right? He told me about it.

Y/N: In other words, you want to stop being the Hayato Hayama everyone wants.

The blonde male's eyes widen and the three of them start to slow down. They then stop on a bridge.

Hachiman: If you go with sciences, there won't be as many people, and there aren't many girls.

Y/N: With that, you can finally put the distance between you and the problems intruding in your life.

Hachiman: Plus, if the choice doesn't match theirs, they'll accept and drift away from you. If it ends naturally, nobody gets hurt, and you won't have to betray anyone's expectations.

Hayato: (to Hachiman) I was right. We never could've been friends.

Hachiman: Huh?

As Hayato looks slightly to the side, into the river, Totsuka and the rest of the crowd had caught up, jogging past them.

Hayato: I don't like you.

Hachiman: O-Oh...

Hayato: I feel inferior to you, maybe to the both of you, and I can't stand that.

Y/N: Huh?

Hayato: I wanted us to be equals, so I could accept losing to you. So I won't do as you guys say.

Soon, Hayato takes off, Y/N taking off second as Hachiman took a second to realize what happened. Hachiman then takes off to catch up with the other two.

Hachiman: Sorry for blocking your second consecutive win.

Hayato: No, I'll win. That's what I do. Besides...I don't want to lose to either of you. Especially you, Y/N. I'm tired of losing to you when we were younger.

Hayato then starts to pick up the pace, Y/N starts to, but one of his shoe laces gets untied and Y/N trips on it. The green-eyed boy then skids across the ground before he came to a stop. Hachiman soon catches up and offers a hand to the L/N boy, Y/N taking it as Hachiman begins to help Y/N back to the school.

Once they arrived at the school, Hayato had one, just as he said he would. Iroha was standing next to him with a microphone.

Iroha: Congratulations, Hayama-senpai! I knew for sure you'd win!

On the stage, to Iroha's right was the student council and to the left was Hiratsuka-sensei and the gym teacher.

Hayama stood with a crown on his head made of leaves. Iroha offers the mic to him and he takes it, taking his turn to speak to the crowd.

Hayato: I was able to finish the race thanks to all of your support. Thank you. Yumiko. Iroha. Thanks.

The two girls that were mentioned had blushed. From behind Yumiko, a hand was brought to her shoulder.

The blonde girl turns her head to see it was Yui, offering a friendly smile. Yumiko smiles back.

Iroha: (takes mic back) Okay! A round of applause for Hayama-senpai! I don't need to announce who placed after him, right?

Girl 1: So he wasn't really going out with Yukinoshita-san?

Girl 2: I guess rumors are just rumors.

As the crowd had erupted with cheers, Y/N went to the infirmary by himself, limping. Hachiman had offered to help him there, but Y/N declined.

The sun was setting, Y/N arriving at the infirmary doors. Upon opening the doors, he perks up slightly as the only one in the room was Yukino Yukinoshita herself.

Yukino: Y/N...

Y/N: What are you doing here?

Yukino: I stopped to rest for a bit, and they made me forfeit.

She watches as Y/N starts to limp to the medical cabinet. She looked down to see there was a blood stain on his tracksuit.

Yukino: Did you hurt youself?

Y/N: What does it look like? Just a little, anyway.

Yukino: You could've had them treat it out there.

Y/N: There wasn't anyone there by the time Hikigaya and I made it to the finish line.

Yukino: Oh. I guess it was bad timing.

Y/N: I guess.

The L/N boy begins to dig through the medical cabinet, looking for gauze and bandages.

Yukino: (smiles) Looks like your hands don't work so well, either.

Y/N: Huh?

The girl had gotten up from her seat, going to the medical cabinet herself and searches through. Finding the things she needed, she instructs Y/N to sit down.

Yukino: Sit over there.

Y/N: I can do this myself. There isn't much to do.

Yukino: Just sit.

He sighs and obeys, sitting down as he rolls up the covered area. Yukino takes a piece of cloth and a spray to clean the wounded area. She then begins to clean the area, the boy blushing at the contact as he looks out the window.

Y/N: Hey...that kinda stings.

Yukino: I can't help that. It's to kill the germs.

Y/N: It would make sense if you put it on Hikigaya since you classified him as a germ.

Yukino: (giggles) I suppose. ...It looked like you were running with Hayama-kun. Did you get any answers?

Y/N: Well, he's not picking sciences, that's for sure.

Yukino: That's a funny way to put it. All done.

She then rises up, immediately blushing as her face and Y/N's were close. The heat rising to their cheeks as their faces were only inches apart.

She wanted to say it here, but she struggled to get the words out. As she was about to say what she wanted, Y/N pulls his face back, looking to the side as he awkwardly scratched his cheek.

Y/N: Th-Thanks for that.

Yukino: It's fine. It's not a big deal.

He looked down to see his bandaged leg, the wounded area wrapped around in gauze.

Y/N: Hey...can I ask which course you want to go to?

Yukino: That's the first time you've asked me a question like that.

Y/N: Is it?

Yukino: (clears throat) For what it's worth, I'll be going into liberal arts. So...for the time being, we'll all stay together.

Y/N: I suppose.

When he had filled in the paper, he picked liberal arts, not because of his father, but it felt that he needed to.

Y/N: (stands up) Well, I'm heading back to the classroom.

Yukino: All right. (smiles) See you later.

Y/N waves back as he goes to the sliding door, opening it as he sees Yuigahama standing there. They both jump back in surprise.

Y/N: Oi...

Yui: Oh, it's you, L/N-san.

Y/N: (sigh) Yuigahama.

Yui: Ah, yeah...I just got here... (leans slightly) Yukinon, sorry I took so long. Yumiko and the gang are going to the after-party. Want to go?

Y/N: I'm not--

Yui: Oh, L/N-san, your sister texted me saying she'll tie you up and drag you there if she has to.

Y/N: (sighs in annoyance) I'll go.

Timeskip-Night, HAB, British Pub

At the after-party, Iroha, Saika and his Tennis Club had went due to the invite of Hayama's group. The Service Club members also went, but Y/N was concerned as Itsuki and some of his workmates were also there.

Both Setsuna and Y/N were watching over a drunk Itsuki and his friends, the adults chanting a sea shanty from a video game.

Over to the side, Hachiman and Yukino were pulled away from everyone by Hayato.

Hayato: Sorry for the trouble that crazy rumor caused you.

Yukino: It didn't particularly trouble me. And...I'm grateful that you were concerned for me.

Hayato: You've changed a bit.

Yukino: I don't know about that. It's just so many things are different from back then.

The three of them glance over to the scene in front of them. The other Sobu High students were talking to each other, happily.

Looking over to the adults and the other two L/N siblings, Itsuki had gotten on top the table, swinging his tie around as he drank from his beer. The other two siblings were scrambling around, trying to stop him while Itsuki's workmates cheered him on.

Soon, Yui runs over to the three in the corner.

Yui: Yukinon! The food's here! It's all these chickens! And they're totally cooked whole!

The two continue to stare before an exhausted Y/N stumbles over to them, tired as he pants heavily.

Y/N: (pants) Never again...never again am I taking care of that drunkard.

The two look over to see Itsuki kneeling before a pissed off Setsuna, her hair flowing around as Itsuki had his tie wrapped around his mouth all while Itsuki's workmates were laughing their asses off.

Hayato chuckles for a bit before he looks to where Yukino is.

Hayato: She really has changed a bit. It looks like she's not chasing around Haruno-san's shadow anymore. But it's no more than that.

Y/N: But isn't that good enough?

Hayato: You haven't noticed?

Hachiman: Noticed what?

Hayato: (smiles) Well, if you two don't know, I guess that's fine. Oh, right. There's something I forgot to tell you. Things like moving up to the next grade or to college doesn't rest relationships.

Hachiman: Yes, that totally resets them.

Y/N: For you, maybe.

Hayato: We aren't the same.

Hachiman: Then why wouldn't you tell anyone which course you're going into?

Hayato: If I chose something because I had no other choice, I couldn't call it my own decision.

Hachiman: There's something I forgot to tell you. I don't like you, either.

Hayato: (chuckles) I see.

Y/N: You know, you might've been the first person to tell him that. Straight in the face.

Hayato: Still...I won't choose. Anything. I believe that's the best way to go. ...It's my self-satisfaction.
