Chapter 5: The Kawasaki Case

I apologize if the chapters are getting shorter. Trying my hardest to make them as long as possible. At most, as long as the episode is. Anyway, on to the chapter.

------------

It was the next morning and Y/N awoke on his bed, rubbing his eyes. It was strange for him actually. He glanced at his clock and saw that he was an hour early from the time he usually woke up.

He sighs to himself and lays back on his bed, trying to go back to sleep, but for some reason he just couldn't.

Seeing as there was no reason for him to try and go back to sleep since he was wide awake already, he grabbed his towel and went to the bathroom. The shower starts to run and the warm water starts to run down his body. His hair droops down as he stood where the water was running. The steam starts to rise and floods the room.

Y/N: What the hell am I doing? I'm starting to associate with people...is that right? Heh. Kaa-san would think so...

Thinking back on his time in the Service Club, he thought back to those recent moments. Zaimokuza's manuscript, Yuigahama's garbage baking skills, Totsuka's dilemma, and Hayato's clique. In the longest time, it felt like he was having fun. Or that's what he thought. He always felt empty on the inside.

Then Yukino Yukinoshita came into his mind. Her luscious black hair. Those piercing blue eyes. He always felt entranced when looking at her. A small blush had somehow made it to his cheeks. He shook those thoughts out of his head, shaking his head at the same time.

Y/N: What the hell is wrong with me? Am I falling for her? Yeah right. Damn it.

Leaving his shower, he goes back to his room and gets ready. He heads into the kitchen and saw that no one was there. Not even his sister was up.

He heads to his sister's room and knocks. There was no answer. He knocks again and there was still no answer. Opening the door, he found his sister asleep on the desk. Things were scattered around the floor and many notebooks were open on the desk. She also had a stack of textbooks to her left. Some open, some not.

Y/N: (thoughts) Must have been up all night doing homework.

Upon thinking about it, Y/N never really thanked his sister properly for all the things she'd been doing since the three of them left the family home together.

He decided to let Setsuna sleep for a little while longer and he heads to the kitchen himself. He puts on an apron and starts to cut some potatoes. Opening up a can of corn beef from the pantry, he took out a pot with a lid.

Putting in the corn beef first, he starts to cook it. After awhile, he puts in the potatoes and starts to cook those as well before adding in chicken stock for a little bit of flavor. He already had rice cooking so all he needed to do was set up the table. Since his sister's school started later than his, roughly about an hour or two, he would leave a note.

After setting things up, he ate his share and went to get a piece of paper and a pen. Walking back to his room, his brother woke up.

Itsuki: (groggily) Ohayo...

Y/N: (hums in a greeting manner)

Grabbing the things he needed, Y/N wrote a quick note and left for school.

With Setsuna

Setsuna starts to awaken, looking around her room. She blinks a couple of times before realizing what time it was.

Rushing out of the door, she starts to frantically knock on Y/N's door. Y/N never answered, obviously, so she opens the door hastily, preparing to yell at him to wake up, but she stops once she looked inside.

Everything was neat. Y/N's bed was folded neatly. The room was clean.

Setsuna: Eh? Where is he?

Itsuki: If you're looking for him, he's already left.

She turned around to see her older brother in his work clothes already, leaning against the door frame.

Itsuki: Oh, and don't worry about breakfast. He cooked already. He's getting better already.

Setsuna: (nods with a smile) Yeah...he is.

Timeskip-End of school

Y/N had arrived at the school and was sitting in his desk, watching Hachiman getting berated by Hiratsuka-sensei.

Hachiman: Um...no, I'm not late. It's what you call "executive work hours." As one of the elite, my work day starts--

Hiratsuka: Weren't you a full-time house-husband?

Y/N: (thoughts) She got you there.

Hiratsuka: You even said, "When you work, you lose."

Hachiman: Well, you see, the very idea that tardiness is a sin itself is wrong.

Hiratsuka: Interesting. I'll let you explain before I punch you.

Hachiman: The police don't do anything until a crime has been committed, and heroes always arrive late. Yet no one criticizes them for their tardiness. From another standpoint, you could say tardiness is justice--

Hiratsuka: (readies fist)

Hachiman: (panicked) Wait, please don't punch me!

His request wasn't fulfilled and Hiratsuka ended up punching him anyway. Y/N grins to himself for a little. For some reason, watching Hikigaya getting punched in the gut was hilarious to him.

Hachiman struggles to get up and Hiratsuka smiles.

Hiratsuka: Sheesh. We've got too many problem kids in this class. Saki Kawasaki. Are you working "executive work hours" too?

The cyan haired girl that had walked into the room nods, walking in as if nothing had happened. She didn't even bother to look at the strained Hachiman, who was still struggling to get up.

As she walked by, Hachiman spotted something.

Hachiman: (thoughts) Black lace!

Saki: Retard.

The L/N boy had gathered his stuff and walked past Kawasaki. The two briefly shared eye contact, but the two went about their day, not caring about what happened between them.

Timeskip-Dawn

Y/N was currently running at full speed as he ran into a nearby coffee shop, bumping into someone while trying to sit in the closest booth near him. He didn't realize the booth he sat in was occupied. When looking to the ones occupying the booth and the one he bumped in to, he saw it was Hachiman, Yui, Saika, and Yukino.

Saika: Are you here for the study group too, Hachiman, L/N-san?

Yui looks away, giving the idea of the look of what she was trying to say.

Hachiman: (thoughts) "Shoot, I didn't invite him! Why is he here?" is written all over your face.

Yukino: I believe you two weren't invited.

Y/N: Sshh!

They were surprised at the tone of voice the L/N boy gave off.

Before they could reply, they hear thundering footsteps from outside. Y/N takes the book out of Yukino's hands and hides his face, confusing everyone.

They resume their attention back outside.

Girl 1: Where did L/N-san go!?

Girl 2: I could have sworn he went inside the coffee shop! I get to ask him first!

Girl 1: No, I do!

Girl 3: Please, if anyone gets to ask him, it's me!

Girl 4: No, It's me!

Girl 2: Not unless I get to him first!

The girls run off somewhere else and Y/N puts the book down, letting out a sigh of relief. As that scene happened, Hachiman could have sworn he saw Yukino's eye twitch as that let on.

Yui: Hmm, L/N-san, I didn't know you had a fan club.

Y/N: It's been going on for a few days now.

Hachiman: But why?

Y/N: Because of this.

He reached into his bag and pulled out a small booklet. They lean forward to get a better look of the book to see it was a fanfiction.

The thing was, it wasn't by Zaimokuza. The title was concerning as well. It was called, "The Two Princes."

Yukino read the description and blushed a deep red, which was noticed by the eyes dead like a fish boy. Yukinoshita sees the reaction out of him and takes back her book, covering it up with her face.

Yui was still reading the description of the fanfiction that was shown to her.

Yui: "The tale of two star crossed lovers. A forbidden love. A love story between Prince Hayato and Prince Y/N." What is this?

Hachiman: ...I have no idea what to say other than it's terrifying.

Y/N: What the hell is this crap anyway? I'm not even into this type of crap. (sigh) Ever since the first issue came out, I've had to devise different ways from dodging the crowd I've been getting.

Yukino: (clears throat) A-Anyway, what do you want?

Y/N: Can't exactly go home as you can see why.

Hachiman: Don't explain the situation to me if your only goal is to hurt my feelings.

Yui: What's that?

Hachiman: Oh, just brochures for a summer school.

Yui: Oh, wow. Studying for college already?

Y/N: Isn't everyone doing that this time of year?

Hachiman: Besides, I'm aiming for a scholarship from this prep school.

Yui: Scrap?

Yukino and Y/N: Scholarship.

Hachiman: Some prep schools have started paying for their highest-scoring students' intuitions. And if I can get my parents to pay on top of that, I can pocket it.

Yui: Gold digger.

Yukino: How utterly deplorable.

Y/N: But his strategy is smart.

Hachiman: At least someone agrees with me. Besides, it's not like I'm hurting anyone, so screw you.

???: Oh, Onii-chan!

They look over to a girl with the same hair and eye color as Hachiman. They concluded it was Hachiman's younger sister. Next to her was a grey haired boy.

Hachiman: Komachi, what're you doing here?

Komachi: A friend of mine wanted to talk to me about some problems.

The grey haired boy next to her nods, confirming that this was Komachi's friend.

Komachi: Oh, nice to meet you! I'm Komachi Hikigaya! Thank you for putting up with my brother!

Saika: Nice to meet you. I'm Saika Totsuka, one of his classmates.

Komachi: Oh wow, you're cute! Right, Onii-chan?

Hachiman: Yeah, but he's a guy.

Komachi: Oh please. You're such a comedian! (processes information) Wait, seriously?

Saika: (rubs back of head sheepishly) Yeah. I'm a boy.

Yui: Nice to meet you! I'm Yui Yuigahama, one of his classmates too!

Komachi: Oh, hello! Nice to meet you...huh?

There was awkward silence before Yukino speaks up.

Yukino: Are you done yet? Nice to meet you. I'm Yu--

Y/N quickly got up from his seat and dashed into the bathroom. Before they could question what happened, the same group of girls from earlier walk in to the coffee shop.

Girl 1: Where is he!?

Girl 3: I saw him in here!

Girl 2: Me too!

Girl 4: If we find him, we just need to drag him over to Hayama!

Girl 2: It's obvious he isn't here girls. This way!

Girls 1, 3, 4: Right!

The girls leave and Yukino rubs her temple, getting out of the booth and heading over to the bathroom to where Y/N was.

She knocks on the door twice and a voice could be heard inside.

Y/N: Are they gone?

Yukino: Yes, you can come out now.

Back in the booth

Komachi: Hey, Onii-chan...

Hachiman: Hmm?

Komachi: Who are they? Are they dating?

Hachiman: That's Yukino Yukinoshita and Y/N L/N. And no, they aren't dating. (thoughts) If one of them can admit their feelings for one another. It's honestly painful to watch them.

Komachi: They work so well together, don't you think?

Yui: Really!?

Hachiman: I'm glad I'm not the only one who sees it.

Yui: You too, Hikky!?

Small Timeskip

Yukino: As I was saying before, I'm Yukino Yukinoshita. I'm not exactly a classmate of his, nor am I a friend of his, so...I regret to say that I'm an...acquaintance of his?

Hachiman: Well, screw your "regret" and your hesitation!

Y/N: Why do you make it sound like a bad thing?

Yukino: Is it not?

Y/N: ...Probably.

Hachiman: And you're agreeing with her?

Y/N: Well, no one really likes you, so...

Hachiman: ...Fair point.

Y/N: Y/N L/N. That's all.

???2: Um...I'm Taishi Kawasaki. I go to the same prep school as Hikigaya-san, and my sister goes to Sobu High with you. She's a second-year. Her name is Saki Kawasaki.

Hachiman: (thoughts) Black lace?

Yui: Oh, Kawasaki-san?

Y/N: Oh...her.

Yui: She's kinda the scary type, isn't she?

Y/N: No she's not.

Yukino: (raised eyebrows) And how would you know?

Y/N: We only walk past each other in the halls.

Yukino: ...Something tells me that there's more to this story.

Y/N: No there isn't.

Yukino: You sure? You seem to be with holding important information.

Y/N: Are you accusing me of being a stalker?

Yukino: Perhaps. Are you one?

Y/N: Huh? What are you an idiot?

Yukino: I'm not one. I'm simply asking you a simple question.

Y/N: (rubs temple) Tsk. Your really annoying.

Yukino: It's not the first time someone has called me that.

Y/N: Yeah, yeah.

Hachiman: (thoughts) Seriously, can one of you already admit your feelings for one another!? It's pretty sad! (normal) Anyway, you're not friends with her?

Yui: Well, I've talked to her before, but...hey, don't ask girls questions like that. We don't know how to answer.

Saika: I don't think I've ever seen Kawasaki-san hanging out with anyone.

Komachi: So, it's like, Taishi-kun's older sister's turned into a delinquent. She's been coming home real late recently. He was asking me, like, how to get her back to normal.

Yukino: When did she turn delinquent?

Taishi: Only recently. She was good enough to get into Sobu High. She was a model student when she was in middle school, and always really nice.

Yukino: In short, she changed when she was put in the same class Hikigaya-kun.

Hachiman: Oi, why are you making it sound like I'm the cause? What am I, some kind of germ?

Yukino: I never said that. You're just being paranoid, Hikigaya-cootie.

Y/N: You just called him one though. Don't even deny it.

Yukino: A slip of the tongue.

Flashback, Hikigaya's Memories

A younger Hachiman was standing in a soccer field with four other young boys his age. Two of them were running past and him and one of the shouted.

Boy 1: I got Hikigaya cooties!

One of the boys touches another and the boy puts up his arms in an x-formation.

Boy 1: Touch!

Boy 2: But I had a barrier up!

Boy 1: Barriers don't work on Hikigaya cooties!

Hachiman: (thoughts) Barriers don't work? What are Hikigaya cooties made of?

Flashback End

Yui: You said she comes home late, but how late are we talking about? I came home pretty late myself...

Taishi: Well, a bit past 5 AM.

Y/N: That's basically morning.

Saika: Have your parents approached her at all?

Taishi: Both of our parents work all the time, and we have a younger brother and a younger sister, so they can't do anything about her.

Yukino: Family circumstances. I see. Every family has their own.

Hachiman notices the looks on the faces of both Yukino and Y/N. Curious of what family circumstances they both have.

Hachiman: You plan on doing something?

Yukino: Taishi-kun is the younger brother of Saki Kawasaki-san, a student at our school. Furthermore, he is asking for the sake of Saki Kawasaki-san. I believe this to be within the scope of the Service Club's mandate.

Scene Change, Service Club Room

Yukino: After some thought, I concluded that it would be best if she decided to resolve the issue on her own, rather than being forced by us.

Hachiman: Well, yeah, I'd say.

Y/N: So, what are we going to do exactly?

Yukino: Have you heard of "animal-assisted therapy?"

Y/N: Where you get an animal to help you with a problem?

Yukino: Something like that.

Hachiman: I got it, we get a cat.

Yukino: I agree. Y/N, you have a cat do you?

Y/N: ...

Yukino: I'll take that as a yes.

The head over to the apartment complex of Y/N and they get his cat, Mizuki. They put the black cat in a cardboard box and place it near the front gate of the school.

Y/N: So what are we doing with my cat?

Yukino: We will draw out her inner kindness by giving her a chance to frolic with an animal. If it moves her heart, she'll adopt it.

Y/N: (mutters) Nee-san is going to kill me...

Yukino: Hmm? Did you say something?

Y/N: Nothing.

Yukino: I've determined each of the tasks you need to do. To your places please.

They all move to their places. except for Yukinoshita. She looks around for a moment before crouching down and facing the cat.

Everytime the cat meowed, she did so as well, a slight blush appearing on her face. Soon, Y/N comes up behind her with a questioned look on his face, hands in his pocket.

Y/N: What are you doing?

Yukino: (stands up) Is there a problem?

Y/N: I'm just worried for my cat. If something happened to her, Nee-san would freak out.

Yukino: ...Setsuna nee-san is still like that?

Y/N: Well, duh. You know how much of cat person she is.

Yukino: And you aren't as well?

Y/N: I may have a soft spots for cats, doesn't mean I'm a cat person.

Yukino: Then why do you own a cat?

Y/N: It's more of Nee-san's cat than mine.

As the two continued to bicker, Hikigaya, Yuigahama, and Totsuka were on the side, watching.

Saika: Is someone going to stop them?

Yui: Should we?

Hachiman: (thoughts) Watching them from here makes them look like a married couple.

Eventually, the three standing by walk over to the two and the two face them.

Yui: Oh, Taishi-kun told us his sister is allergic to cats.

Scene Change, Hallway

The five students were now watching Kawasaki, who was near the lockers getting her things.

Saika: She might not feel comfortable talking to her parents because they're too close. Perhaps she could talk to another grown-up?

The scene changes to Saki walking down the hallway, minding her own business. She opens her eyes when her name was called.

Hiratsuka: Kawasaki.

Saki: Need me for something?

Hiratsuka: I heard you've been getting home pretty late these days. What are you doing, and where?

Saki: Who'd you hear that from?

Hiratsuka: My client wishes to remain anonymous. Please answer the question.

Saki: Not like it matters where I go. And it's not like I'm causing anyone trouble.

Hiratsuka: But you might in the future. You're in high school.  Have you stopped to consider how your parents feel?

Saki: ...Not like you'd know. You've never been a parent before.

Hiratsuka: Eh?

Saki: I mean, you're single.

Hearing those words, Shizuka collapses to the floor in mock pain. Despite being a young woman, about early or mid-twenties, she hasn't found a single person to love.

(A/N): Sound familiar?

Saki: Sensei, you might want to think about your own future more than mine. Like getting married, for starters.

Saika: I feel sorry for Sensei...

Y/N: This feels familiar.

Hachiman: How so?

Y/N: Nee-san has been telling Nii-san to get a wife already.

Hachiman: How old is your siblings anyway?

Y/N: Nee-san is turning twenty in a few months. Nii-san is about twenty-six.

Yui: Isn't that the same age as Hiratsuka-sensei?

Y/N: I think.

They all look back to their teacher, who was walking down the hall, saddened.

Hiratsuka: I'm going home. (sniffle)

Hachiman: (thoughts) Can't someone just marry her? Please?

Scene Change, Outside

Yui: If she changed once for the worse, then if she changes again, it'll be for the better!

Y/N: Change isn't always a good thing. What's your plan anyway?

Yui: There's only one reason why a girl'd change! Like, love?

Y/N: ...Huh?

Yui: And you're going to do it!

Yukino: Absolutely not.

Yui: Do you have something against it?

Yukino: (blushes) Um...er...

Hachiman: (thoughts) Oh my--just say you love him already dammit!

The scene changes to a tired Saki as she was unlocking the lock to get her bicycle.

Hayato: Hey there. You look tired. Been working after school? O hope you're not overextending yourself.

Saki: Thanks for your concern.

Hayato: Hey...if you need a shoulder, I've got one.

Saki: ...No thanks, got enough.

With everyone

Hayato: Looks like she turned me down.

Hachiman: (snickers) Yeah. Good job.

Saika: It's not funny to laugh!

Y/N: Eh, it's a little funny.

Yukino: I don't see you laughing.

Y/N: Didn't need to.

Hayato: Don't worry, it's no big deal.

Hachiman's phone rings and he picks it up, thinking it was Taishi as last time Komachi had called, it was Taishi who was speaking.

Hachiman: I'm not your brother!

Komachi: (on phone) Huh? What're you talking about? Well, whatever. Onii-chan, Taishi-kun's sister got a call from some weird cafe.

Timeskip

Yukino: So she received a call from the manager of a cafe called "Angel" or something?

Hachiman: Yeah. I looked around, and there are only two cafes in Chiba city with that name and are open all night.

Yukino: And this is one of them?

They all looked up at the sign and saw the place they were at was a maid cafe.

Saika: I'm not too familiar with these things. What's a maid cafe like?

Hachiman: I'm not too familiar with them either, so I called in someone who is.

Y/N: Please don't tell me...is it him?

Hachiman: Yeah.

Y/N: (sigh) Fine. Let's get this over with.

???: Wa-hem!

They turn around to be met with the familiar otaku writer they helped with a request. Zaimokuza Yoshiteru.

Zaimokuza: It appears my time has finally come!

Yui: Ew.

Zaimokuza: You asked me to come here! Why are you looking at me like that!?

Y/N: Because your gross.

(A/N): Not really. Zaimokuza is funny as hell.

Hachiman: The thought that dealing with you might be more trouble than it's worth crossed my mind.

Zaimokuza: Then stay silent and follow me. The maids shall pamper us tonight!

Y/N: I'm afraid of this already.

Hachiman: (faint blush) Pamper...

Yui: (tugs on Hachiman's shirt)

Hachiman: What?

Yui: I don't like this place. Besides, this place is for guys! What are we supposed to do?

Yukino: (points to sign) It looks like they serve girls too.

They enter in and sat a table. Zaimokuza had a look of seriousness, Hachiman looking bored, and Saika was looking around amazed and confused.

Y/N on the other hand.

Employee 1: Can I have your phone number!?

Employee 2: I asked him first!

Employee 3: No I did!

Employee 1: Get out of here! This customer is mine!

The female employees had pulled Y/N to the side, him getting his own table and was constantly barraged with questions.

Y/N had a ticked off face and was already annoyed.

Yui: Th-Thank you for waiting, M-Master. How do I look?

Saika: Wow, Yuigahama-san! You look really cute! Doesn't she, Hachiman?

Hachiman: (blushes slightly) Y-Yeah.

Yui: R-Really? Thanks!

Zaimokuza: Hmph! You're just cosplaying as as a maid! You have yet to put your soul into it! Personally, I would prefer...

Saika: Wh-What?

(A/N): He's the literal best trap of the series. I'm not into traps before you say it. Why do you think I'm writing it about the queen?

Zaimokuza: Heheheheheh...

Yui: Whoa! Yukinon! Oh my god! You look amazing! Totally cute!

(A/N): Do ya see what I mean!? Literal queen! Best girl in the series!

Yukino: Thank you. Where's Y/N?

Hachiman: (points to Y/N) Over there.

She looks over to see the bored boy, annoyed as all the girls were frolicking over him. She had an irritated look on her face, which wasn't unnoticed by Hikigaya.

Soon the black haired boy looks over and blushes slightly when he saw her, the heat coming to his cheeks fast. Soon, Yukino blushes as well as the two made eye contact. Hachiman was already sitting there, irritated.

Hachiman: (thoughts) Seriously, one of you admit your feelings for one another!

Yukino: (clears throat) More importantly, it seems Kawasaki-san doesn't work here.

Hachiman: How do you know that?

Yukino: Her name wasn't on the shift schedule. What was surprising is--

???: Hey! What's going on there!?

Y/N: (thoughts) That voice was so familiar. Who is it?

From the direction the voice was coming from, a girl with black hair and dark grey eyes comes out with the same maid uniform Yukino was wearing.

Setsuna: What are you all doing out there!? We have cus...tomers...to take care...of...

The two siblings eyes met each other. Y/N had wide eyes as did Setsuna, but a blush soon spreads her face and she runs back in where she came from, screaming from the top of her lungs.

Y/N blinks twice and questions to himself why his sister works in a place like this. He stood up and went out the door.

Hachiman: Who was that?

Yukino: Y/N's older sister.

Yui: Eh!? She's so pretty though! They look nothing alike!

Yukino: Let's go. We're going to the second one.

Hachiman and Y/N were waiting by the elevator, wearing tuxedos as they were heading to the top floor of the Royal Okra Hotel.

Yui: S-Sorry we're late.

The two look over to see Yui and Yukino were also dressed for the occasion. Y/N looked to the ice queen and blushes slightly. She blushes away and starts to play with her hair, nervous.

Yukino: D-Don't stare s-so much.

Y/N: S-Sorry.

Yukino: A-Anyway, where are the other two?

Hachiman: They don't have anything matching the dress code.

Y/N: Let's go. Let's get this over with.

They step into the elevator, pressing the buttons to head to the top floor. Yukino blushes as she links her arm with Y/N's.

Y/N: What are you doing?

Yukino: W-We'll go unnoticed this way.

Y/N: ...Fine.

He lets it slide and keeps looking forward. The ice cold queen had a faint smile, the heat rushing to her cheeks.

They arrive at the top floor and they step out.

Hachiman: Hey now, is this for real?

Y/N: Oh, I remember this place now.

Yui: You do?

Y/N: Kaa-san would take me and my siblings for dinner here sometimes.

Yui: Where is she now?

Y/N: ...I'd rather not talk about it.

Yukino: Stop looking shifty. Keep your back straight and puff out your chest. Chin down.

They walk over to the bar and sat down.

Hachiman: Huh? Kawasaki?

Saki: Pardon me, but may I ask your name?

Yukino: One of your classmates doesn't know who you are? Why am I not surprised, Hikigaya-kun?

Saki: Yukinoshita. L/N.

Y/N: Hey.

Yui: H-Hi there!

Saki: Yuigahama. So he's from Sobu High too?

Y/N: He's the guy who you said retard to.

Saki: Oh, that guy. So what are you doing here? I highly doubt that you'd go on a date with that thing. (looks to Y/N and Yukino) I can see you two on a date though.

Yukino: (blushes slightly) I-It's not a date. (clears throat) Even considering to make a joke after seeing this thing is in terrible taste.

Hachiman: Could you two not throw insults at me while you have your little fight? Your little brother was worried about how you're coming home late.

Saki: I had a feeling that everybody was getting onto my case. So it's your guys' fault? I don't know what Taishi told you, but nothing's wrong. Just leave me alone.

Yukino: The spell breaks at midnight for Cinderella, but it seems it breaks now for you.

Saki: (grins smugly) I'll just live happily ever after once the spell breaks.

Yukino: I wonder about that, my Little Mermaid. I think only suffering and despair await you.

Yui: Hey, what are they talking about?

Y/N: We can't work nights at our age.

Hachiman: Basically, Yukinoshita's trying to say that Kawasaki's lying about her age.

Yui: Oh, why couldn't she just say so?

Yukino: Do you plan on quitting?

Saki: Hmm? No.

Yui: Hey, Kawasaki-san, I work too when I need some money, but I don't lie about my age to work.

Saki: Doesn't matter. I just need money.

Hachiman: Well, I can see that, but...

Saki: Yeah, like someone who says "When you work, you lose" could.

Hachiman: You heard that?

Y/N: Well, yeah. You were pretty loud.

Saki: Life ain't easy. I'm not working because I want pocket money. Don't lump me in with those retards. You guys act like you're all that, but it's not like you could get me that kind of money. You think you can get something for me that even my parents couldn't get me?

Yui: Well...

Yukino: Stop right there. If you don't stop barking like that--

Saki: Hey. Your dad's on the prefectural assembly, right? Someone born with a silver spoon in her mouth could never understand it.

Y/N: Alright, settle down. We're not looking for a fight.

Hachiman: Let's get out of here.

Y/N: You guys go on ahead. I'm going to stay here for a bit.

Yukino: Why's that?

Y/N: ...Just reliving some memories.

They nod in understanding so they left. Y/N payed for their drinks and he sighs.

Saki: So, how have you been doing?

Y/N: What does it look like? Dammit...

Saki: It's been awhile since we talked...hasn't it...cousin?

Y/N: Yeah...it has. The last time we talked was...

Saki: Aunt Sarashiki's funeral? Yeah. How have you guys been holding up?

Y/N: Nii-san is fine. Got a job in engineering somewhere here in Chiba.

Saki: And Setsuna?

Y/N: Just found out she works at a maid cafe.

Saki: (giggles) That's kinda funny. Isn't she wanting to go into design?

Y/N: Somewhere there...why didn't you tell me your family needed money?

Saki: ...You know why.

Y/N: I've...been getting over it recently. It doesn't help that Hirmada doesn't do anything about it. I doubt he even loved mom.

Saki: It was a shame auntie passed. Now explain to me why there's more money than there should be when you payed the tab?

Y/N (small smile) Consider it a tip for being the best bartender.

Saki: (giggles) Whatever you dork.

Y/N: Yeah, yeah. It was good seeing you, cousin.

Saki: To you as well.

Y/N: And tell Taishi I said hello again.

Saki: Will do. And thanks--

Y/N: No thanks needed. We're family after all.

The L/N boy leaves Kawasaki to her business. She takes out her phone and scrolls to a picture. It was hers and Y/N's family, without Hirmada, in a park, taking a picture.

Saki: So he's getting better, huh? Good to see that.

Timeskip-L/N Apartment

Y/N opened the door to see an angered Setsuna.

Setsuna: Where were you?

Y/N: With Saki.

Setsuna: Saki-chan? How--wait don't change the subject!

Y/N: How's the job?

Setsuna: (runs to her room) Nooo!

Itsuki: (pokes head from living room) What was that all about?

Y/N: Something to tease her with.

Itsuki: Huh?

Y/N: She has a job at a maid cafe.

Itsuki: Oh. Ohhhhhh. Good call, little brother.

Y/N: Yeah. Night.

Itsuki: Night.

Y/N went into his room and retired for the night. He laid in bed, but couldn't sleep. Yukino once again to his mind.

Y/N: Dammit, why am I thinking about her?

Apologies for the previous chapters being shorter. Trying my best at making them as long as possible. Anyway, hope you all enjoyed it. Stay safe out there.
